To her friends and family, Aria Cook is a sassy, foul-mouthed, not-a-care-in-the-world woman. She dances for the Oklahoma City Thunder and tends bar at her father's trendy downtown bar, A Shot of Whiskey. What her friends and family don't know, however, is Aria's running from a past she can't escape no matter how hard she tries.
Trevin Anderson is a love 'em and leave 'em kind of guy. He knows most women only want the fame associated with dating an NBA athlete. He doesn't get attached. He has a job he loves, a sister and mother he adores and friends who have his back. He doesn't need anything else.
After a failed first date, Trevin can't walk away. Maybe it's the thrill of the chase; perhaps it's something more. She calls him her stalker. He calls her his girlfriend. Which one will be right in the end?
Playing for Keeps is the third book in the Playing Series by Ashlie Knapp. This is a wonderful, fun and very entertaining sports/contemporary romance. It is part of a series and even though you could read this as a standalone, I really recommend reading the books in sequence so you are able to fully appreciate the experience- the story, characters and information contained in each book, help give a broader picture to each individual story, and the series as a whole. Again we have met the characters in previous book/s. Aria Cook (Red) has a larger than life personality which makes her very endearing. She is a terrific actress, because she comes across as this strong, feisty, independent and carefree young woman- when in fact underneath all her bravado is a vulnerable girl carrying the weight of a heartbreaking secret that she can’t share with anyone. She hides her pain well, behind her foul-mouthed, sassy persona she has skilfully cultivated. Something happened while she was in L.A perusing her dreams of becoming an actress. It forced her to give up on her dream and return home to Oklahoma. She now works two jobs, as a dancer for the Thunder, and working for her father in his popular bar. Her experience has caused her to build impenetrable walls around herself, refusing to be seen as scarred or looked upon with pity if people were to discover her secret. Trevin Anderson is one of the star players for the Oklahoma Thunder. He loves his ‘job’, his teammates and all the female attention that comes with being a professional athlete. He and Aria had a disastrous first impression; and even though he shouldn’t have any more interest in her, he can’t help his attraction or the need to become more than just friends. Aria feels the chemistry and is also attracted to him, but she feels like she isn’t good enough for a relationship. But Trevin won’t give up; he is determined to win her over. They have a running ‘joke’ of him calling her his girlfriend and she calling him her stalker. There are lots of funny antics and banter between them. What happens when the past resurfaces? Will they fight for their love, or will Aria walk away from the one thing that could truly help to heal her and give her the happiness she yearns for? The characters are all so well crafted, superbly developed and very endearing- Ms. Knapp made them very real and relatable. I was completely invested in the characters and their story. I didn’t want to put the book down until I knew what happened. The story had a great pace and a smooth flow; I devoured it in a few hours. It is so easy to read; I lost myself in the story and didn’t want to leave. Ms. Knapp writes beautifully- she has a real knack for writing a touching and engaging romance. I really love how she is able to bring her story to life, using her words to paint pictures for us all to enjoy. I can’t wait to see what she produces next. A great read!
Playing for Keeps by Ashlie Knapp a supreme five-star read. This is the third book in the Playing series and we have met the main characters Aria Ann Cook and Trevin Thomas Anderson in the previous books, Trevin is a player with Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team, and he is a very good player, in every sense of the word. He’s a love em and leave em type of guy, with reputation in the MBA of being a loyal friend, team mate and family member but not always reliable with the lady’s. Aria a strong fierce, foul mouthed red head, she danced for the Oklahoma City Thunder team with her squad and works in her dad’s trendy bar A Shot of Whisky to make ends meet, a place that feels like home as she has spent so much time there, even before her dad turned it into the hip and happening place it is now. I must say that when I read the first two books we met Aria as best friend/roommate of the previous two main characters Callie and Cassie and I always had a soft spot for Aria she seemed to have a tough exterior but a soft heart underneath and a story that she wasn’t showing anyone. Aria and Trevin had a disastrous first date in a previous book, and Aria ended up with a concussion so you can see why she doesn’t want a second date, despite the fact she keeps telling everyone she isn’t girlfriend material, Trevin won’t give up he wants her to admit to being his girlfriend, even though she explains their relationship of that of a Stalker and Stalked, they give us some funny moments as well as some heart-warming ones as well. Will Trevin get his way in the end? Will Aria become his girlfriend? Or will she keep running from a past she has kept hidden from everyone.
Playing For Keeps by Ashlie Knapp is absolutely wonderful! It is a three book series but, you can read each book as a stand alone, I recommend reading all three!
Aria moved to L.A. to pursue her dreams of becoming an actress. A few years after being there things went horribly wrong, so she gave up her dream to move back to Oklahoma to be with her dad again. Once moving back home she takes on two jobs, one working with her dad at his bar and the second as a dancer for the Thunder basketball team. The team which she meets Trevin.
Trevin is a top star athlete for the Thunder. He has noticed Aria during the girls dance practices and while she was hanging out with his friend's. His two best friends are coupled off with her two best friends, so in his mind it is only right that they would be together. Trevin realizes that getting with Aria is going to be harder than he thought, she has walls built up and won't let anyone in. He decides he won't give up on her and is determined to get inside not only her walls but her heart as well.
Everything seems to be going smoothly until a blast from the past threatens to ruin everything Trevin and Aria have built together. Will this relationship make it through? Will Aria shut down and walk away?
The whole series was fantastic! After reading the first story I thought the second couldn't be as good, but I was wrong. I fell in love with the second story as well and then by time the third came around I didn't see myself liking it, but again I was wrong. Each character has their own back story and point of view in the books, and each character is different and interesting on their own. This book gets 5 stars and is well worth the read and recommendation.
Playing For Keeps written by Ashlie Knapp is the third book in The Playing Series. The playing series also includes book one: Playing to Win and book two: Playing for Love. Each book could be read as a stand alone. But reading about each of the girls Callie, Cassie and Aria is quiet an entertaining and heart breaking read. Each girl has a unique situation to overcome/ face/ move past. Each story involves all three girls as they are/were room mates. And best friends. Playing For Keeps is Arias story and hers like the rest has parts that will make you laugh, cry and cuss the characters out. There are cusswords and sex scenes, however the sex scenes are not graphic making this story suitable for anyone who is ok reading a cuss word here or there. The story is told in third person. Aria has a secret shes been keeping from pretty much everyone. Her dad, cassie, called, but one drunken night she tells Trevin about it… the story takes an interesting turn after that… But the story has a beginning like they all do and Arias story begins by how her and Trevin decided to be friends…a failed date…where she ended up with a concussion due to her best friend…. Trevin decides that he wants to get to know her more after that…even if it is 4 months later…hes nothing if not patient and persistent, and he wants Aria. Now he just needs to convince her how good they could be together, theres only one problem, Aria doesn’t date, or do relationships.
Playing For Keeps is the third book in the Playing series and for me is a five star read.
Wow! This is definitely a five star read for me. What a wild ride. It had me gripped from the very first page and I did not want to put it down and even took it with me to read whilst doing housework just so I could finish it.
This book can be enjoyed time and time again. It is amazingly intense and the author prepares you for the journey for you to take alongside the characters really well. The characters and story development were perfectly done. This book was extremley well written and has fast become of my favourite books. I will definitely want to one click future releases from this author. This book was full of different emotions with many twists and turns in the book that will keep you guessing what is going to happen till the very end.
I could not wait to get to the end so I devoured it in one sitting. Incredible work!!
The storyline was done really well and was believable. It kept me gripped from the very start until the end, so much so I took the book everywhere with me in order to finish it. I adore this book and cannot wait to read the next in the series as well as other work from this amazing author. I will definitely be recommending this author to everyone I know.
This was really tough for me to rate! Character wise I'd rate Aria a 3* but I'd rate Trevin a 4* Story wise I'd rate it a 3.5*. So overall I had to rate it a 4 because of Trevin, and because it wasn't hard to finish! It looked like Trevin was a celebrity in the sports world? But I really didn't feel that! Something happened to Aria, which I really felt sorry for her. But the way she was, at times, was really unnecessary. It wasn't hard to read this, but it did take me longer then usual. This is just my opinion though, I don't want it to put people off reading this book, because it is good, and it is at times funny but I had a hard time connecting with the characters.
Playing for Keeps (Book three in the Playing Series) by:Ashlie Knapp 5 Stars Aria Cook works at her dad's bar part time and is a dancer for the Oklahoma City Thunder. She is runing from a past that has a hold on her that everywhere she goes it follows her which her family and friends have no clue about. Trevin Anderson is a Oklahoma City Thunder basketball player. He is the love em and leave em type and never has any problem getting the ladies. When he meets Aria she shakes up his world. Aria has red hair and is a spit fire who has lots of attitude. She has lots of personality it feels unworthy because of her past so she has built up walls around herself. Aria and Trevin already have a fails date and even though it went bad neither one can stop tthinking about the other one. He decides there is something about her and cannot walk away just yet. He wants her to call herself his girlfriend but she calls him her stalker. Now she will. it give him the time of Susanne may have to play a little dirty to win her over so he tells her he wants her to meet his sister guaranteeing her to stick around after the game. Trevin is pretty persistent about breaking down Aria's walls and is determined that she is it for him and he will stop at. nothing to make that happen. Will he be able to mend her and will she be able to change his playbook ways. Will Trevin be able to show Aria she is worth of being loved. You will have to read to find out.
I give Playing to Keeps by Ashlie Knapp five stars. This is the third book I have ever read that was written by Ashlie. This is book three of her Playing Series and I have read and loved all of them. I felt the author had a great writing style and I feel the books was a very well written book. This book can be read as a standalone but I would suggest you read the first two because that way you will know the stories of all the extra characters in this book. Aria Cook is a dancer for the Oklahoma City Thunder and on her days off she tends bar at her father’s trendy bar in downtown. Aria comes across for having a sassy attitude, a foul mouth and for being a woman that doesn’t have a care in the world. Little does anyone know that she has a past that she is running from and no matter how hard she has tried she cannot escape. Trevin Anderson plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder and is known for being the type of guy that does not have relationships because he feels most woman are after his fame. He is OK with being single because he has a sister and mother he loves and a job he loves. After Trevin has a date with this beautiful girl and it fails he has a hard time walking away. Is it the thrill of the chase or is it something more? You will have to read the book to find out! This book did not have any violence in it and there wasn’t any sexual content, unless you count hot kissing as sexual content. I highly recommend this book and I feel that this is a must read!

PLAYING FOR KEEPS (Playing Series Book 3) AUTHOR: ASHLIE KNAPP
FIVE STARS
PLAYING FOR KEEPS is the third book in “The Playing Series” by Ashlie Knapp. I have read the two previous books in this series also and I loved them. I was thrilled to read PLAYING FOR KEEPS. Ashlie is a phenomenal writer of romance and one that I am glad I discovered. I was totally disappointed to discover that PLAYING FOR KEEPS is the last book in this thrilling series. These books can each be read as a stand alone, but they are triple the pleasure as a series. The cast of characters is unforgettable, their personalities charming and spirited, and they appear in all three books, but each book tells its’ own story and each of the girls get their own story. I loved this series and recommend it highly to all romance lovers. Secretly, I think PLAYING FOR KEEPS might be my favorite.
Aria Cook is a frisky, energetic, high-spirited girl who once had a dream of being a famous actress. When things didn’t work out, she moved back home to work at her father’s bar, A Shot of Whiskey, and also dance for the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team. This is where her life becomes very interesting.
Trevin Anderson is a NBA basketball star for the Thunder. He has never really been interested in pursuing a relationship until he spots Aria as she practiced. She is friends with the girlfriends of two of his best friends and she definitely has his attention. He is very optimistic about their relationship, but she keeps her distance. Trevin is determined to break down the defenses she has built around her.
Will Trevin get through to Aria and convince her they could have something great together? Their romantic journey is worth the read!!
In Playing For Keeps we get to know Aria and Trevin more and watch their relationship develop. As with all of Ashlie Knapp's books that i read so far, this is a charming and pleasurable read and an excellent addition to the “Playing” series.
Aria’s sass and wit makes this cat and mouse developing relationship more fun and drives you crazy because we, and all her friends, know how she feels way before she will even admit it! This book, as with the others, can be read as a stand alone novel. But I have enjoyed reading them in order and getting a taste of what is to come in the next one.
This book made me laugh a lot as the dialogue is witty and the characters have bags of character. Aria’s haunting past is heartbreaking and they way she overcomes if and that Trevin deals with it is written so well. All the couples in this series are so charming and loveable and this one certainly does not disappoint.
The supporting characters are so good and none of them fade into the background. They also have bags of character that fit in well with main ones as well as ones they meet along the way.
If you are a fan of romance, you have to read this series. So well written and full of a massive range of emotions that suck you in and make you feel like you are in every conversation. The characters are just adorable and lovely and you can't help but root for them, smile at what they do and say and cry when things get sad for them.
The story is woven together so well that it just takes you in its flow and before you know you have read half of the book! Do not miss this book. And the others before it!
Playing for Keeps is the third book in Ashlie Knapp’s Playing series. It focuses on Aria and Trevin, and it matches up perfectly with Aria’s fiery and headstrong personality, and Trevin’s fun loving attitude.
Aria has learned that it's best to be alone, especially when it comes to dating. Flirting is fine, fun is great. But never go further than that. She keeps busy with her friends, while also dancing for the Thunder and also bartending at her father's bar. However, she's running from something that she can't bare to share with anyone close to her. Trevin has never been the relationship type. More inclined to love them, then leave them, he's never had a problem with letting the female fans fawn over him. So when he can't the sassy red-haired dancer out of his head, he makes it his mission to find out all he can about her, and get to the bottom of the trouble she is trying so hard to hide.
Just like the first two books in this series, this was so much fun to read. I really enjoy Knapp’s writing style and how her scenes flow between description and dialogue. The alternating narration is really easy to follow and really helped open up with Aria and Trevin are. I think this has been my favorite book of the series, as I couldn't get enough of the sass and bantering between Aria and Trevin. This was a really fun series, and I definitely recommend it for any contemporary romance lovers out there.
Playing for Keeps, book three in the Playing Series, by Author Ashlie Knapp. And yet another wonder, amazing, 5 star read by this amazing author. This whole series has pulled me in and kept me wanting to know about this small circle of friends, and this time we get Aria's story! Everyone thinks a NBA Cheerleader leads such a glamorous life, that could not be farther from the truth. When not at practice, Aria is helping out at her dad's bar! While all her friends are growing up and settling down she is starting feel the loneliness and pressure from her happily in love friends. Trevin has never had a problem being known as the teams Casanova. That is until a certain redhead catches his attention. Now he has to prove that he isn't the love'em and leave'em type so many have made him out to be. This could be especially difficult when dealing with a serial single lady! Can he win her over or will his past hurt him? Okay, seriously I wanted to cry! What kind of parent deprives a child of playing UNO?!?!?! Seriously one of the best games of all time. That broke my heart. Then of course you have Avery being Avery and suddenly its all put together again! I think with every single book that she invites a new character, those characters get better and better. If you are not hooked on these books it is because you have not read them! Trust me when I say you can not read these and not be like give me, give me, wanting the next! I will beg, but it will not be pretty, so have some mercy and go grab these right now!!!
I loved Playing for Keeps, book 3 in the Playing series by Ashlie Knapp. This is actually the first book I’ve read by her and it’s safe to say that, while I’m sure the series is connected and tells other characters’ stories, it can be read as a stand alone without feeling like you are missing anything.
Aria is a sassy, spunky redhead who works at her dad’s bar and is a cheerleader. She’s also a fantastic singer, but stopped that long ago. She comes off as super confident but is actually kind of fragile and feels broken. Trevin is a bearded basketball star who is close with his mom and sister, and will stop at nothing to win Aria’s heart. She doesn’t do relationships, so she keeps trying to resist his charms. The banter back and forth between these two was very entertaining! I loved that everyone in their lives seemed to want them to find their happily ever after together. There was a lot of teasing, sweet surprises, and funny quips throughout the story. I felt like all of the characters were well-rounded and likeable. Actually, Trevin pulled some pretty swoon-worthy moves. He makes a great book boyfriend. I was totally rooting for them the whole time!
I really felt drawn into this story. It was humorous but also sweet, with a couple of twists thrown in. Also, there was enough info about other characters that make me want to look and see if their stories have been told yet. I would read more by Ashlie in the future, this was very enjoyable, entertaining, and had a smooth writing style. 5 stars
Aria has a painful past which she finds hard to move on it effects her outlook on life now while she's happy her friends are settling down Aria feels sad as she think she will never get a happy ever after. When Trevin keeps hitting on her she tries her best to keep pushing him away plus hes a player why would he want her when he can any other girl falling at his feet. Trevin wants Aria to be his hes never had this feeling before where he cant stop thinking bout her no matter how much she pushes him away he will do everything I his power to convince her that they could be happy even if that means starting out as platonic friends even with how much he is craving to touch her. Aria and Trevin are perfect together hes a sweet guy who has had mistakes in the past but he wants to good by her and Aria she just needs to let go and be happy but will she? What will happen when Aria finally open up to Trevin? Will they get there happy ever after? Wow I loved there story I was hooked right from the start it was really emotional for me at times especially when you find out more about Aria you cant help but feel her pain. Throughout this hold novel I was rooting for Trevin he was a awesome leading character yes he may of been a player in the past but he is so much more then that which you will learn throughout. I can absolutely recommend this novel but I was also recommend reading the previous books to this series so you can get a better understanding of the other characters. Happy reading!!!
A 5 star read for Playing For Keeps, The Playing Series Book 3, by Ashlie Knapp. I absolutely loved this book just as much as the first 2, maybe more so. Aria Cook is a dancer for the OKC Thunder basketball team and she barely ends at her father bar. She is sweet and can be very sassy when she needs to be. Aria has had some difficult times in the past that she never told anyone about. Trevin Anderson is a player for OKC. Trevin is a jokester and a player in more ways than just basketball but when he sees Aria, he knows that there is something about her. Sure he sees her dance at every home game and she is hot but there is more to it than just that. He always gives her his signature wink, and he has yet to have any effect on her. Or has he affected her and she just isn't letting on? The more time these two start spending together, you can see how made for each other they are. Will Trevin be able to knock down Aria’s walls or will she keep him at arms length. I have been hoping that these two would get together from the first time I read about them. The chemistry between them is so great. They joke around with each other and have bickering down to an art form. Trevin calls himself Aria’s stalker. It is hysterical. I laughed with them so much during this book, and at times my heart broke for Aria and for what she went through. I hope that you enjoy not only this book but the entire series as much as I did. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
Playing for Keeps by Ashlie Knapp is book 3 in The Playing Series and it's a 5 star read. Aria Cook is 26 and is a cheerleader for the Oklahoma Thunder basketball team, she's full of sass and takes no crap from anyone, her life now is defined by her past. Her mother was an actress who didn't spend much time with her before she took off for good when Aria was 13,leaving her to be raised by her father,Aria spent a lot of time at the bar her father worked at before he eventually bought it when his old boss passed away. Five years previous Aria moved to LA hoping to make it as a singer but after too many knock backs she decided to try her hand at acting, working at a bar to pay the bills while she was waiting for her big break, but things didn't work out for her and she came back home but carried a heartbreaking secret that she had no plans to tell anyone of until Trevin. Trevin Anderson plays in the NBA for Oklahoma Thunder, the son of a wealthy man who was too busy working and his mother got lost in alcohol for a while and that left him to practically raise himself. He has a reputation with women that's never bothered him until he really gets to know Aria,he can see himself falling for her but she keeps running away. I loved Trevin and Aria’s story probably the best of all three books, they definitely had a love worth fighting for.
Playing For Keeps by Ashlie Knapp is the third book in the Playing Series, and it's amazing! With each book I think there is no way Knapp can top the previous couple, and she's proved me wrong! I absolutely adored Aria and Trevin! This book was an amazing 5 stars!
Playing For Keeps starts with Aria Cook who is amazing, she's my favorite character of the series so far. To everyone looking in, Aria doesn't have a care in the world and is the sassiest woman who loves to throw around some dirty words. (Who wouldn't love her!?) She dances for Oklahoma City Thunder and works in her Dad's bar. But what no one knows is that she's running and no matter how hard or fast runs, she can't escape.
Enter Trevin Anderson who is the definition of a "love them and leave them" man, he's loving life. He's got a great basketball career, a loving Mom and sister, and a great group of friends. What else could he need? Absolutely nothing, or at least that's what he thinks until he sees Aria. He can't help but want to be around her and break down her walls. They have one failed date, she thinks he's crazy and a stalker, while he's ready for her to be his girlfriend. Will he keep chasing her? Is that all he wants, is the chase? Will Aria allow herself to be caught by Trevin? What happens when Aria's past catches up with her? Can Aria trust Trevin enough to tell him about everything? Will he be the one to put her back together?
I absolutely LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this couple and their story! Everyone needs to go buy this book right now, and fall in love with Trevin and Aria!
Playing for Keeps is the third book in the Playing series by Ashlie Knapp. I loved this book because I am always drawn to the books where someone is on the run from a bad past and this one hit it home for me. While this book can be read as a standalone, characters from past books in this series do appear. I love how I am able to connect with the characters in this book and others in the series. Another great book in a great series. Aria Cook might be the sassy and not a car in the world girl her friends and family see. Everyone sees what she wants them to see while she tends to her father’s bar and is a dancer for the Oklahoma City Thunders. What everyone doesn’t know or see is that she is running from a past that no matter how hard she tries she can’t escape. Then enter Trent, NBA star and the guy who doesn’t want anything other than to have fun. He cares about his career, his mother, and his sister. After a not to good date with Aria, he can’t walk away. He care about her and she can’t seem to get rid of him! What can happen to these two amazing characters, read and find out! I loved this story.. From the guy who was a love and leave them, to Aria and her needing to get away from a past that haunts her. These characters are real and the story line draws you right in. I have to say this one is the best book I have read in the series. I love how Both Trent and Aria see what is blooming together as something so different and I love when things all start to come together. I give this book 4 stars and highly recommend not just this book but the series. This author truly has talent to draw you in and wanting more. I was able to read this book in one sitting and truly loved it, this is a book that I KNOW I will be reading again!
5 star review Playing for Keeps is the third book in the Playing Series by Ashlie Knapp and possibly the one I was looking forward to the most! I absolutely loved the first two books in the series so far and Aria was the one character who intrigued me the most. Callie and Cassie wore their hearts on their sleeves, you kind of knew where you stood with them but Aria was different and I couldn’t wait to read her story – and what a story it was! I honestly think what I loved about this book is that we found out about Aria and her past at the same time as the other characters in the story. If you have read the previous two books you will know Aria’s character quite well, she’s sassy and she doesn’t really have a care in the world but we don’t see Trevin really in the other books and what an amazing character he is! I thought after book 1 I loved Kyle, then I read book 2 and I loved Jamal but then comes along Trevin! OMG talk about hotness and swoon-worthiness!! He has definitely made his way on to my book boyfriend list! I think he knew from early on that Aria was going to be hard to get to know, she’s closed off and doesn’t let anybody but her girls in (and only them to a certain extent) but he never gave up. He didn’t push her at all; he just ever so gently inserted himself into her life. There were some really great moments between them, especially when Aria is hurling insults at him – she certainly knows how to come up with them. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this series by Ashlie Knapp – she has fast become one of my go to authors, her writing is completely flawless, the female characters she has created are likeable and the male ones are HOT!! Her books have kept me wanting more and this one was no exception! It is without doubt that I recommend Playing for Keeps, whether you have read the previous books in the series or not it is a fantastic book that I loved every single minute of!
Playing for Keeps is the 3rd book in the Playing series and Ashlie Knapp did not disappoint. I was really looking forward to this book since the first two books were great. Ashlie Knapp has a way to make you love the characters and crave for more. Aria had big plans to be an actor so she went to LA and tried to live her dreams only to have something bad happen that made her back home to Oklahoma to work at her Dad’s bar and be a cheerleader for the basketball team. Aria is a smart mouth feisty young lady who is holding onto these secrets and has convinced herself that she was “broken” and would be single her entire life only to have a “bearded boy” on the team to take an interest in her. Aria tried all she could to keep Trevin away but he was determined to get to know her. Trevin is a star for the Oklahoma NBA team and determined to get Aria’s attention. Trevin is known as a player and has never wanted to have a relationship until he gets his sites on Aria. Trevin tries everything to get Aria to notice him and go out with him and one day he finally breaks her down and they go out to play miniature golf. From that moment on he has to get know her. Another great aspect of this book is Ashlie Knapp also makes Aria’s Dad Hank and Susan who is Trevin’s Mom important characters. Both Hank and Susan are witty parents that make you smile and laugh. Playing for Keep will not disappoint!
Another great read! LOVED Aria! She is my kind of girl, sarcastic to a fault, unbending, and plays by her own rules. I can't help but picture Ygritte from GoT as I read this, lol. The story was engaging, the banter was fresh, and the characters sizzled!
Playing for Keeps is the third book in a series. The books can be read as standalones: I read this one as a standalone and whilst the characters featured in the first two books interact with the main couple in this one, I didn’t have to know all about them to read the book. However, you might enjoy them better if you read them in order. All the books are sports romance stories centred on three best friends and three basketball team players. Aria Cook (AKA Red) is a feisty, sassy young woman who seemingly has no filters. She has worked hard at building walls around herself and projecting herself as a strong woman. At the core though she is soft, vulnerable and hurting. What or who hurt her so much she has to project a hard exterior? No-one (especially her two best friends) know why, they only know she is hiding something she won’t tell them about, but they love her so they wait patiently knowing that one day she may tell them. “If you only knew, Aria thought. She wanted to tell her friends and knew she could trust them. Trust had nothing to do with it. She just didn’t want them to see her as scarred, as someone they had to pity. It was just easier that way.” In the meantime she has given up all her life dreams to focus on working hard in her Dad’s very successful bar and her dancing job for the Thunder basketball Team. When Trevin Anderson becomes determined to be more than a friend Aria is in a quandary – she feels the attraction too but to her she is ‘broken’ and can never have a relationship. So she tells him, “I’ve told you before, I don’t do relationships. Everyone knows that. I’m not meant to have the white picket fence and two point five kids and a dog.” Will he listen and give in or will he fight for what he wants and feels is right? Trevin Anderson (AKA Beard Boy amongst other nicknames given to him by Aria) is a ‘player’ or a ‘man whore’ as he’s jokingly called by his closest friends. He could have his pick of any woman but he wants only one – Aria. He is tired of playing around with women who don’t really want him; they only want the lifestyle associated with him. He is capable of so much more than that and has a close loving relationship with his mother and sister. As his past makes Aria feel more vulnerable and makes her put up more barriers, her past and her one big secret that makes her feel ‘broken’ threaten to overwhelm and break their tenuous relationship before it can really start. Will their story be a HEA? In the beginning I struggled to connect with Aria. This was because the prologue has a ‘cliff-hanger’ type ending so you don’t know what happened to her on ‘that night’. Then throughout the story she refers back to ‘that night’ tying it up with her secret but you never find out what happened to her that makes her feel ‘broken’ until you are sixty two percent of the way through the book. I kept asking myself did this happen, was it that? Personally I feel that if I had known I could have connected with her character quicker and easier, feeling more sympathy rather than fright on her behalf. Having said that it was clear that she was a multi-dimensional character, I just wanted to know that bit more. Trevin’s celebrity status was hinted at in the story but never really came across, so I never felt that he was ‘out there’ as much as it was hinted. The dialogue and banter between the two characters was however, excellent as well as humorous. I liked how they struggled in the beginning with their relationship, each of them perceiving it differently and the banter reflected this and their progress through it. Another thing I liked was that their ‘physical’ relationship wasn’t described graphically and this added to their romance story. Ashlie Knapp writes a skilful sports romance story.
I thought that Cassie and Jamal’s story, Playing for Love, was my favorite in the series but this book surpassed it for me! I’ve been waiting to read Aria’s story since the first one, she really intrigued me. It was obvious that she too had a story that would be worth the wait. Playing for Keeps by Ashlie Knapp is the third book in The Playing series, it’s a definite 5 star book. Like the first two books the supporting characters really make the story. Every book is filled with humor, the best nicknames, and perfect movie quotes!
Aria is a super hard headed and caring woman who uses her attitude to keep people away. She has her dad, Callie, and Cassie and that’s about it. She doesn’t get involved with men as she had a situation in the past that changed her life. Trevin is another player for the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team and is normally a one-night stand kind of man until he gets introduced to Aria. He instantly finds himself wanting to be with her and to make “Red” his girlfriend. With the help of friends he learns more about her in order for her to come around. But Aria’s walls are so unbreakable that it takes more time and effort then he first thought it would. Which only makes him want to try harder. She tries to put on a façade that she’s untouchable but Trevin sees right through her. Overtime Aria’s walls start to slowly crumble as she starts to open up with him. Which leaves him confused when she starts to avoid him. Will Aria be able to truly let her guard down with him or will her worst fears come true and she’ll end up alone?
This is one fabulously written series, the men really know how to pursue what they want and it’s been great going along for the ride. I never thought there would be a day where I would say I’m craving some suckers but I cant wait to get my hands on some charms lollipops, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. The supporting characters in these books are phenomenal and Trevin’s mom is a sure treat. Her openness will have you laughing for sure. This is definitely not a series that should be overlooked and I would highly recommend it to anyone ready for his or her next romance read.
Aria Cook was raised by her father and is definitely not a girly girl. She works for her father in his bar A shot of Whiskey, where you give as good as you get and flirt for a bigger tip. She is one hell of a straight shootin, sassy young woman. She has all she needs, friends and family. She has her two best friends in the world, Cassie and Callie, her father who she loved fiercely, her job in the bar and her job dancing for the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team. But she has know heartache, that heartache found her leaving behind her dreams, more than one dream. One dream she can live without, the second is keeping her from fully living her life. Know one knows the second one, it is something she has kept hidden from all who love her, one that she fights to keep hidden every day, one that will stop her from finding love.
Trevin Anderson loves women. If it has two legs and wears a skirt he’s your man, a man who is a love them and leave them kind of man, a man who doesn’t get attached, doesn’t do relationships. Women know what he’s like and what he wants so it’s a win win. He is also famous he is an NBA athlete, he plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team a job he absolutely loves. He has all he needs and loves in his life, his family and his best friends, he adhores his baby sister and love his mum. But when he meets a certain red headed Thunder dancer he starts to think that maybe, just maybe there is space in his life for more. Slowly but slowly he is trying to break down her walls, walking away is not an option, he will make her see he is boyfriend material.
Will Aria let Trevin in? Will she finally share her secret from the past? Will her past catch up to her? Will Trevin finally give up because it is too hard to fight for?
This is the third book in the series and is just as good as the other two. Ashlie weaves a story that pulls you in and you feel like you are right there with these wonderful loving and funny characters. This is one series you do not want to miss.
Playing For Keeps (Playing Series Book 3) by Ashlie Knapp
5 amazing stars for this book and the whole series
I'm sad because there's not another book waiting for me in this series :( I'm not ready to lose these characters or the fantastic writing by this author. This 3rd part of this series was as good as the first two.
Aria, an Oklahoma City Thunder dancer who also works in her Daddy's bar, is a happy go lucky, feisty, redheaded knockout who has caught the attention of one of the Thunder players. Not that it matters, with the secrets she hides from even those closest to her, she will never be changing her status from single.
Trevin, an NBA athlete for the Thunder, a love em and leave em kinda guy, he loves his job and his family and has some awesome friends. He thinks he has it all until he finds himself practically stalking this fiery redhead on the Thunder dance team.
Aria and Trevin run with the same group of friends, they were kind of fixed up a while back for a date that didn't go so well, but since then Trevin just couldn't walk away even though she did her best to make him do just that. He just keeps chipping away at her defenses and is determined to break through her tough exterior. His stalking and constantly referring to her as his girlfriend starts breaking her down little by little, yet she just can't let go of her past that just won't go away. Will he run as fast as she thinks he will if he learns the truth or will he be able to convince her to take a chance on him?
I loved these two, their hilarious interactions had me laughing out loud more than once. The story flowed perfectly and the emotions described in this book felt so real. I'm hoping that this is not the end of the line for this group of friends, I want more lol Thank you so much for such a great series, a series I will be rereading over and over again. Loved it!!!
This is the third book in this series. I have not read the previous two, but I certainly want too. I do believe this could be read as a standalone novel. I also have not read anything by Ashlie Knapp, I know I will definitely be looking up her other works. Now, the good stuff. Aria, “Are- e-ah” Cook is quite the fun, smart mouthed, spitfire of a girl who dances for the Oklahoma Thunder basketball team. She herself, like so many have a past she wishes she could forget and out run from. I know she so desperately tries too. Keeping family and friends at bay not knowing just how much she has tucked away. Even her secrets might keep her away from those who love her the most. That is where this hunk of a man comes in, Trevin; a starting player from the Oklahoma Thunder basketball team. He has been deemed a womanizer, lady’s man, a “good time man”. He tries his best to woo and befriend Aria. She just doesn’t want too. She only wants to be friends with him. He however wants to break down her walls. I loved Trevin. I absolutely LOVED Trevin! He made me smile over and over with his charismatic ways. The way he would not take no for an answer, letting Aria think it was her idea in the way of becoming friends. What a wonderful thing to witness. He made her believe in herself. Made her believe that she doesn't need to be alone with her demons. That she special and is loved by so many. The part where she has demons is a difficult thing to read. I know everyone has their own. However, Trevin really helps Aria through the dark points that she holds onto. I really can’t say enough about this book; I don't see me not liking the other ones from this series.
Playing for Keeps is part of Ashlie Knapp's Playing series. I'm not into basketball, but I really enjoyed getting to know these players and the three girls. Each book can be read as a stand alone but seeing each of their personalities in the other books makes their own better. In this book we learn about Aria and Trevin. Yey Aria!
Aria Cook is a sassy red headed cheerleader for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Her dad owns a bar where she works as a foul-mouthed bartender. She doesn't do one night stands, relationships or men in general since one awful night in LA. She has a secret she's trying to forget. One that's been a burden to her for five years.
Trevin Anderson was a player... not just an NBA one either. He is usually found on the cover of magazines with different women on his arm. Through he's known with the ladies, he is still a good man. He just has needs and knows how to fulfill them without catching feelings.
After one group date though, he's rather smitten by one little redhead. She gives him a run for his money as she's made it very certain she wants nothing to do with him. Will he be able to break down the high walls she has? Does Aria want a chance at love even though she's sworn it away?
I was so excited to read about Aria. She was described as being the sassy one who loved to flirt and no one ever saw her with a man. But I just knew she was hiding something and her story was heartbreaking. I also really liked Trevin. Knowing the playboy got tamed by a firecracker.
I love that Ashlie overlaps her books giving you insight as to what the other couples were doing. It was just enough to keep me satisfied. Definitely couldn't put this book down as it had me laughing out loud. Will definitely be keeping my eye out for more books by Ashlie!
This is the 3rd book in a series and I have to say my favorite!
I loved Aria's character in the 1st 2 books in this series, but in this final book you see a whole other side you wouldn't think she had. She's spunky, sassy, and a great friend to Callie and Cassie. She attempted to pursue acting/singing in CA, but something happened where she ended up going home and working as a bar waitress and a Thunder dancer. She's all about the single life and hanging with her girls and helping them in any way she can.
Trevin is the playboy everyone loves - he's all over the tabloids with a different girl each time he's on the cover. On the soft side, he loves his mom and sister very much and he's over protective of both. He's known for being with multiple women and not one to "pin one down".
After a failed first date - Trevin can't get Aria out of his head, little did he know that he'd have to work so hard to get her attention. Aria fought him tooth and nail for months trying to get him to leave her alone. There is some hilarious banter, and a super cute romance between the "beard boy" and "red".
When they finally admit their feelings for each other, Aria's dark past comes to haunt her; all the progress made was put to a halt - I found myself yelling at both Trevin and Aria throughout the book.
Aria and Trevin are my favorite of the 3 books. These can be read alone, but I recommend reading them in the series to understand everything to the full effects.
Ashlie, I sure hope you have more up your sleeve with this series!! Thanks for an amazing read!!
Playing for Keeps by Ashlie Knapp is the third book in the series. It is about Aria Cook, a dancer for the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team. She is sassy and will say whatever comes to the tip of her tongue, usually without thinking. She doesn’t do relationships. She is busy enough dancing and serving drinks at her father’s bar.
Trevin Anderson doesn’t do relationships either. As a NBA athlete, he has his pick of women who will do whatever they can to sleep with a star player for the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team. He doesn’t mind! He enjoys spending time with beautiful women without getting attached.
However, as their friends fall in love, they are put together more than once or twice. They enjoy spending time together but neither do relationships. Will that change when they start spending time together just the two of them? Only time will tell!
I love this series. Even though I am not into basketball, you don’t really have to be. Playing for Keeps is the story of a woman who has been through a lot who is scared to let anyone in. It is also the story of a man who is not ready to settle down, until he sees a future with Aria.
None of the books in this series disappoint and Playing for Keeps is no different! Readers will enjoy Aria’s sassiness as she pushes Trevin away. They will enjoy watching how far one womanizing man will go to spend time with her. This is another pleaser!
Playing for Keeps is the third book in Ashlie Knapp’s Playing series. Well, yes you could read the book as a standalone but please, do not! You will be missing out on so much and you would enjoy it so much more having read the previous two books and knowing the main characters and their friends from before! This book is a story of Aria and Travin. Aria is a professional cheerleader and a bartender at her dad’s popular bar. She went to LA to pursue her dreams of becoming an actress but after things went terribly wrong there, she moved back home. Travin is a top star athlete who keeps going through girls like … hmm… you get the picture! He has had his eyes set on Aria for the longest time but she is not giving him the time of day. Aria and Travin are perfect each other, at times I feel as if Travin is an Aria whisperer, it takes him some swoon-worthy moves to really get in there and it does not hurt that he has an amazing sister and a nutty mother and that all their friends are rooting for him! It is an entertaining read with a lot of banter and teasing, sweet surprises and funny moments! Both Aria and Travin are such great characters! Ashlie has done a great job with them! I never doubted that Ashlie would deliver! I loved the first book and the second book was even better and the third one, the story of Aria and Travin …. It took the cake! I really hope that she will add to the series … there are a plenty of characters to choose among …. Seriously!
