Calling all future members of the Super Secret Monster Patrol! Kids love reading about the wacky monsters that attack Stermont in Troy Cummings's bestselling The Notebook of Doom series. Now fans can own Alexander Bopp's S.S.M.P. Monster Notebook, featuring each monster's habitat, diet, and everything else a monster-fighter needs to know! This 144-page, full-color book features information about every monster from The Notebook of Doom series, plus never-before-seen monsters, too. This fun monster manual is perfect for young readers who love monsters, monsters, and more monsters!
I really like this series about Alexander Bopp directed toward young readers- especially 2nd and 3rd grade boys. I read the first book, The Balloon Goons, to a first grade class and they loved the funny characters, not-scary monsters, and cartoon-like illustrations. This companion book shows all of the monsters you might meet if reading the series- creatures like the Forkupine and the Hamper Clam. This is an appealing series that I like to recommend to young readers in the library, and reading this book that came straight from Troy Cumming's imagination was a lot of fun.
The Monster Notebook belongs to Alexander Bopp. He's the leader of the Super Secret Monster Patrol, also known as S.S.M.P. They protect us from the monsters who are just waiting to attack. This notebook contains all of the monsters the S.S.M.P has come into contact with. Each entry includes an illustration, its habitat, diet, behavior, tips, and warnings. That way they can be prepared when facing the monsters.
This monster book is engaging and encourages imagination. At the end, the reader is enlisted into the S.S.M.P. and is given the ingredients to start their own monster notebook. It also encourages the reader to do it with friends which makes it more fun.
I love the fun facts that are with each entry, like "Megaworms smell like caramel corn". This was a fun read that has a creative and well-illustrated monster on each page. The author does an amazing job at creating the monsters and doesn't leave anything out. Even though it involves monsters, there is still a lot of humor.
Final Verdict: This book is perfect for children aged six and up who love monsters. This would be the perfect gift to be given with a blank notebook and some colored pencils.
My 8 year old son loves this series! He told me he wished they would publish the “notebook” with all of the monsters and no sooner than a few weeks later we saw that this book was coming out in October- the day after his birthday. He told me that Troy Cummings had read his mind. :) He and I both love the silliness and fun of this series. The monsters are so creative! My son’s 8th birthday party was themed around this series and it was a lot of fun. I can’t wait to see what Troy Cummings thinks up next.
I love this book! It tells you about all the monsters and explains everything about them so it actually makes sense. I learned so many cool facts, and the pictures are awesome I love seeing the socktopus (octopus made out of socks). It’s like having a monster guide right in your hands. I think every kid who likes monsters should have this book!
Mom’s Note: Any book that gets Nicholas reading voluntarily is a total win for me, and this one did exactly that! Seeing him excited to read and tell me monster facts is the best part.
The kids loved this book - and it really got Silas making up their own monsters complete with descriptions of their diet, habitat and behaviors! Great way to practice writing skills in a way that is fun.
A great add-on book for the Notebook of Doom series, with all the pertinent information about the monsters in the series. Each monster is described and annotated humorously in this full color reference. Fans of the series will love this book.
My son loves this book! He’s already making his own monster notebook. He blew through this book and laughed all along the way. Highly recommend for the kid in your life!
Have you spotted a monster and you need more information about it? Where does it live? What does it eat? This is the book for you! Great illustrations, and lots of details to tell you if the monsters are friend or foe.
