The 11 projects in Pam Allen’s Plain & Simple: 11 Knits to Wear Every Day are proof that, with the right yarn, simple shapes and stitches are all that’s needed to create essential knits. Worked in Quince & Co.’s worsted weight wool/alpaca Owl yarn, the 11 designs featured in the book cover all manner of plain, simple, and utterly necessary knits including pullovers, cardigans and accessories with details to keep the knitter engaged and the wearer happily warm—a classic collection for the ages.
This is a great book. I’m not wild about all the designs, but I really like the LARCH cowlneck tunic sweater with patch pockets (on front), and the ASH crewneck sweater with patch pockets. Nice cardigans, too. I love Pam Allen’s aesthetic—simple, basic, timeless garment designs.
A beautiful book from Quince and Co. I loved all of these patterns although I haven’t actually tried them, so I’m not able to give this five stars. The first half of the book is just photography. The patterns don’t start until until page 57, and none of the sweaters are top down. This isn’t an issue if you’re of average height or very experienced. But being bottom up makes it challenging to modify the length of the body. There are some easier stockinette sweaters and some challenging brioche, but all of them lovely. That said, I highly recommend checking it out of the library before buying.
This book has a collection of really lovely knitting patterns for wardrobe staples. I am a new knitter and am just learning to make garments, so I cannot speak to the quality of the patterns yet, but there are several here that I want to try. Mix of written instructions and charts.
Wow! Where do I start. I rarely buy knitting books with patterns because I don't find enough pieces that inspire me to knit them. In this book I loved all 11 pieces. They are classic knits that I will wear for years to come. They are beautifully photographed and the instructions are well laid out. I love that it focuses on one yarn by Quince and Co. OWL and glorifies that yarn. I've already got 5 pieces picked out to knit but I think my first one will be Larch or Ash or maybe Chestnut. See what I mean....so hard to decide. So glad I bought this book.
