The Vampire Extinction: Greyson Undead is an exciting new paranormal series that will take fans of Twilight, The Mortal Instruments, The Vampire Diaries and A Shade of Vampire on a thrill ride unlike any other…

Greyson Black hated what he was: a monster. Forced to feed on the blood of humans, he’d been condemned to a life of darkness and murder to survive. Though others like him celebrated their fate, Greyson cursed it. Unlike them, he had a conscience, one that prohibited him from feeding on innocents. Instead, he chose to kill only those he deemed deserving. Those the world would be better off without.

Despising the vicious nature of his kind, Greyson lived a life of complete solitude. An empty life without anyone or anything to live for. But of that all changed the day he met Alex Lockhart.

The only human he’d ever encountered who didn’t fall victim to the trap of his allure, Alex made him feel alive again for the first time in decades. She caused him to feel a dangerous emotion: hope.

A violent encounter threatened to tear at the thread of happiness Greyson clung to, and forced him to choose between letting Alex die and enslaving her to a life like his. A life spent in shadows. A life of bloodlust.

But would changing Alex even save her?

Dark forces lurked, stalking and conspiring against all vampires. Killing them systematically and intent upon exterminating every last one of them.

Will Greyson and Alex survive the hunt or will they fall to the vampire extinction? Find out in this riveting first installment of The Vampire Extinction series, Greyson Undead…

Jennifer and Christopher Martucci hoped that their life plan had changed radically in early 2010. To date, the jury is still out. But late one night, in January of 2010, the stay at home mom of three girls (all under the age of six) had just picked up the last doll from the playroom floor and placed it in a bin when her husband startled her by declaring, “We should write a book, together!” Wearied from a day of shuttling the children to and from school, preschool and Daisy Scouts, laundry, cooking and cleaning, Jennifer simply stared blankly at her husband of fifteen years. After all, the idea of writing a book had been an individual dream each of them possessed for much of their young adult lives. Both had written separately in their teens and early twenties, but without much success. They would write a dozen chapters here and there only to find that either the plot would fall apart, or characters would lose their zest, or the story would just fall flat. Christopher had always preferred penning science fiction stories filled with monsters and diabolical villains, while Jennifer had favored venting personal experiences or writing about romance, as romance was far easier to invent fictitiously than it was to attain in real life. Inevitably though, frustration and day to day life had placed writing on the back burner and for several years, each had pursued alternate (paying) careers. But the dream never died. And Christopher suggested that their dream ought to be removed from the back burner for further examination. When he proposed that he and his wife author a book together on that cold January night, Jennifer was hesitant to reject the idea outright. His proposal sparked a discussion, and the discussion lasted deep into the night. By morning, the idea for the Dark Creations series was born.

The Dark Creations series was written while Jennifer and Christopher continued with their day to day activities and raised their young children. They changed diapers, potty trained and went to story time at the local library between chapter outlines and served as room parents while fleshing out individal sections of the book. Life simply continued. And in some ways, their everyday lives were reflected in the characters of the series. In fact, the main female characters are named after three very important people in their lives: their three daughters. Their likenesses end there, however.

As the story line continues to evolve, so too does the Martucci collaboration. Lunches are still packed, noses are still wiped and time remains a rare and precious commodity in their household in upstate New York, but it is the sound of happy chaos that is the true background music of their writing. They hope that their work, though penned for a young adult audience, will be appreciated by the young of every age, and that all enjoy reading it as much as they enjoyed writing it.

I loved the character of Alex and especially the connection she had to her sister. I couldn't understand why Greyson, after changing her, took her home to figure things out for herself. Still, it was an amazing book.

The vampire extinction

Solid story. Easy flow. Enjoyed Alex as a character but perhaps Greyson will evolve more quickly in the next book. It read like it was more a storyline set up for the next book rather than a solidified stand alone story or set up for a great series which I found disappointing. I like series rather than serials.

A freebie that tries to lure in you into purchasing the second book. However, I found it to be full of issues that I think will prevent me from continuing on with the series.

1) The similes and metaphors at the beginning of the book are terrible and make me cringe a little. I'm all for these narrative devices but please, use them sparingly and only when they add to a sentence/paragraph. No need to clutter up a story with useless metaphors, similes, and other devices that you do not need. I highlighted a few to include--my favorite is comparing (anything) to the Earth's gravitational pull.

2) Flat characters. Perhaps because you're meant to read on and there *may* be development later on in the series... but none of the characters really stand out from being archetypes. A young woman that hates her mother, is a college student, and struggling at a minimum-wage job, who definitely could use a love interest to brighten up her dull life. A mother, likewise, that is a complete dirt bag and wouldn't notice if her daughter were to, I don't know, disappear randomly. And then we have our main male protagonist, and vampire, Greyson. Emo, emo, emo--one of the vampires that hates himself, all he stands for, and believes all vampires are evil (except he tries to only feed from bad people, but still hates himself). Makes you wonder how he made it 60 years without walking out into the sunrise.

3) Predictable plot (thus far) that makes you begin to get a bit bored.

4) No romance here. Again, they want you to go buy the next book and I would if I thought that there were some actual chemistry here. But so far all I know is that Greyson is "hot" and now there is a chance for our two main squeezes to get together. Do I see romance thus far though? No.

It may have potential but I'm generally not going to grab the second book if I don't see promise of a good foundation in the first novel. If you're interested in this series definitely grab the free kindle version of the first book (this one!) and see if this is more your speed. Unfortunately for me, it just falls a bit flat.

Interesting book. I like the paranormal twist.

The characters were interesting and believable. Some of the "bad vampires," weren't really bad, despite whoever they kept company with in different parts of the story. And unfortunately, there are lots of irresponsible, self-centered, selfish parents around, who aren't always around to raise their children, or guide them throughout life, to rival the number in the book. That makes me feel sad. Parenting with love, affection, happiness, and laughter on any personal budget should be a required class in high school. I like the idea that, "it takes a village to raise a child," and wish that there was more human connections to rely on throughout our lives, and in particular, this story. I think that there are several threads of thought that remained unfinished, that I would have been happy to see finished, but it's not too bad for a cliffhanger. Overall, I enjoyed the story.

I'm not sure if I'm not the right age group for this book -- but I found it a struggle to get through because the characters irritated me with their being one-dimensional. The only one that wasn't entirely one-dimensional (yet still was predictable with their whole general level-headedness was Alex). Greyson is too emo and is always 'oh the vampires are ALWAYS only blood thirsty narcissists' all the while being always emo.. and the hospital scene? Does he just lurk around places until he's onto someone being 'bad' to go on his pre-approved morsels list?

It has interesting concepts, I'm usually down for vampire books, but I will not be finishing the series as this one just fell flat for me.

What a fantastic start to the series...

I am really loving that this husband and wife authors teamed up to write this series. I love the way this book was written and couldn't put it down. I really can not wait to read the next book. I would definitely recommend this book. A must have for your kindle reader library.

Entertaining

A bit disjointed jumping between three characters and at times the timeline is off, which is distracting. The Roy character is annoying and confusing, only hinting that he was created for a mission. Greyson and Alex have morals and integrity but are missing direction.

I loved Alex!

I loved that Greyson had his moral compass intact. He only went after those that preyed on others.
I loved the connection between Alex and Greyson. He saved her from death.
Thank you for a great start to this series.
