I write Christian Historical Western Romance. Yes, that often entails the use of firearms in a threatening manner. Sometimes there are fistfights. There may even be politically incorrect but historically accurate language. But also, there is always an inspirational message and strong allusions (at least) to the gospel.
A former journalist, I am an avid researcher and endeavor to skillfully weave truth in among fictional story lines. I love exploring the American West, especially ghost towns and museums. I have walked parts of the Oregon Trail, ridden horses through the Rockies, climbed to the top of Independence Rock, and even held an outlaw's note in my hand.
I grew up in the mountains of Western North Carolina on a steady diet of Bonanza, Gunsmoke, and John Wayne Westerns. My most fond childhood memory is of sitting next to my daddy, munching on popcorn, and watching Lucas McCain unload that Winchester! My daddy also taught me to shoot and, trust me, I can sew buttons on with my rifle.

Of course, romance is always a strong element in my stories because it is such a beautiful gift from God and a perfect reflection of how he loves us: sacrificially and lavishly. This series of books became my favorite series of all time (and I've read a lot of books) before I even finished Book 1. Heather has a way of using the true grit and drama of the West to set a scene that enables her characters not only to come to life but to tell realistic stories that readers can relate to. Stories of life, love, loss and hope. Stories that remind us of God's plan and the mighty and mysterious ways in which He works in our own lives. I'm so glad that Heather decided to add the novella, The Lost Chapters to the series. As a reader I always love to know more about the characters and their back stories. The Lost Chapters gives more insight into the lives and stories of the three sisters and it's a perfect addition to the series! Every time I finish one of Heather's books I can't wait to read it again. You definitely don't want to pass this series up!

I really like how the author bundled these books into one collection. She has the original three books in the series and then added a prequel of the story that took place before Defiance and what got them out there from North Carolina. The author also added a lot of footnotes on how she came up with certain scenes, what characters were motivated by, and where she got her ideas for this story.
Very interesting and propelling. I purchased this box set myself and it was well worth it! Yeah!

The best
I have been reading Heathers books for a week now. I don't usually do reviews but I have to say her books are a great blend of romance and history. Her knowledge of scripture she incorporate thru the pages are so enlightening I have learned so much. I am going to read more by this author.

Romance in the Rockies, written by Heather Blanton, is an awesome way to get her set plus the extra novella of the lost chapters is a GREAT bonus! Just loved all three of the set. If you like edge of your set reads, you'll love these. Christian historical romance at its best. My original reviews of each book:
A Lady in Defiance, written by Heather Blanton, is a delightful read! I just LOVED each page of this book! Naomi finds herself on the trail to California and suddenly the love of her life, John, dies from a freak accident. How terrible! She and her two sisters are directed to the minor's town of Defiance and from there, the Lord just keeps opening doors. Oh, I can't tell you more than that, but I have to say...for a bad guy, Mr. McIntyre is one that I would have fallen for big time! Woot Woot! Love the style of Blanton's writing...it truly is a great mix of how Pride and Prejudice and Redeeming Love would have produced if they had a book child! Love Love Love! Can't wait to read book 2!

The three sisters lives are continued and, Oh boy, do we get to see what excitement waits in Defiance for Naomi, Hannah and Rebecca with their men. Naomi had fallen for Charles in book one...now can she really figure out if it's true love that she has for this former brothel owner?! Hannah...she has a son with Billy, yet he was easily swayed by his father's push to get away from her when they found out Hannah was pregnant with his child. Can Billy truly have grown up enough to be a good man for Hannah or should she grow the relationship that she's been building with Emilio?! Then...Rebecca..oh she's older and Ian is older and they've built a great working relationship/friendship...but can they love each other or is it to be just a friendship without true love?! You have got to read this book! Excitement on every page! Too excited to see what is going to happen in book 3!!
A Promise in Defiance, written by Heather Blanton, is the third book in this series and yet another great addition to it! A Promise in Defiance is full of excitement, romance, action, not to mention promises to keep you turning each page begging to find out what will happen next, but hoping it won't end! Beautifully written!
I just love the way that Blanton writes! Each book has a theme within it...Promises...and as usual, it has at least one couple that it focuses on. A Promise in Defiance is just lovely. Logan…what can I say…bad boy turned Preacher...and I can just imagine him being pretty good looking to top it all off. He’s made the promise to come to Defiance to make up for his past…now his past is smacking him from every angle. Delilah is a piece of work. She’s the madam that comes into town to trash the possibility of it becoming a decent place for people to live. Every evil vile thing that a madam could promote, Delilah is going to promote! Oh my, Blanton takes this book to a new level by showing how the bottom of the barrel of people and scum can have the opportunity to see the love of Christ and His promise of forgiveness if they but choose to accept.
One quote I found in the book that just made it awesome is, “Grace is not an excuse to sin, but it is His love in action.” Oh so true for each person, but shown perfectly through this Christian fiction book. I strongly recommend this as a wonderful series to purchase and read of God’s promises through these fictional characters that are no better or worse than you or I.

Good story, needs editing
This was a good story but as with the other books in this series it lacks editing. At one point s sentence just stopped, then the whole paragraph started over again. I got this series for free so can't complain much but I would have been very disappointed if I had paid for a book in this poor condition.

Spell binding story. I read it as a 3 book bundle. Held my intetest all the way through. Was sorry to see it end. Moved along well. A lot of twists and turns. Colorful people and well developed characters.

I really enjoyed this second book in the Romance in the Rockies series. The characters are complex and the storyline is multifaceted. I love the history and the Old West setting. There is a lot of action and the novel moves along at a good pace. I recommend this book to anyone who likes stories of the Old West with an emphasis on romance.

This outstanding historical romance is a great Christian fiction read. The characters are mostly ones that we’ve met in previous books of the series and I feel like I know them pretty well, which is part of the appeal. The Christian themes are ones we all deal with at some point in our lives and are very realistic. The author does a great job in that aspect of the novel. I appreciate that the Christians, although wonderful people, are not perfect, which is the way it is in our lives on earth. We often struggle. Although this book can stand alone, you will enjoy reading prior books in the series. I highly recommend A Promise in Defiance to everyone who enjoys historical romance in the Old West.

I found the stories fascinating and continue to the next story without a pause. Blanton has masterfully inserted characters for future stories into the previous stories and made the reader want to get to know them better making it so easy to grab the next book in the series. I personally, didn't care for the commentary in the first book that told me where she got the idea for various scenes. I found that distracting and ignored it. I believe it was in the second book as well and if it continued as footnotes in the other books I never noticed. But I appreciate however how much she wanted to draw the reader into her creative process. Her scripture references and the growth of the characters in Christ were believable. I would like to have learned the final chapter of Victoria's life and if Emilio and Mollie truly got together. I will get checking out more of Heather Blanton's books.

Don’t miss this set!
This book set earns an enthusiastic five stars. It’s a rip roaring western adventure from beginning to end. I love how each book builds on the lives of characters from previous books while bringing in new characters.
From gamblers, miners, Indians, painted women, and frontier women, it has a story for everyone.
The characters are well written and rich with personality and grit. The scenes are descriptive in a way that puts you right into the environment. I can here the bustling of people and horses, see the sun rise over the hills and get the perspective of a cougar on the prowl.
Excellent and highly recommended!

I really enjoyed reading the first three books and "Lost Chapters". I especially loved the factual notes interspersed among the books. Being able to read them that way vs. at the end of the book enhanced the reading experience so much! I would have liked to have been able to read ALL 6 books, as the title states. Perhaps this was confusion on my part?
I understand that plans are in the works for a movie. It will be interesting to see if a balance can be accomplished between "Historical" and "Historical Christian". I believe it makes all the difference in the world when the author is closely involved.
Recommended for older teens and adults.

Wonderful Story
I love westerns and this book did not disappoint! While the story of Defiance and the 3 sisters that came to save the town from itself is a Christian story there is no shortage of hard men, loose women and killing. There is no perfect character and no hero or heroine. The author makes sure the reader understands God is the only perfect person. All the characters are well-written and the storylines are captivating. I really liked the little surprises when there would be a connection between random characters. Great book!!

Women of the west, strong and faithful
I loved this series! Stories showing God's powerful love and ability to reach and heal the most broken and hardened hearts. Stories showing how the faithful are tested and learn to lean into the mercy and grace God offers in all situations. Excellent writing!

A great series with wonderfully human people with problems only God can take care of. Amazing how strong and thru many twists and turns they come to know and trust in God. Such a inspiring set of books. Would like to hear further how the little Indian boys story. I enjoyed all the characters and they inspired me to depend on God more

I am not into romance books but this kept me wanting to reading more!
The excitement of seeing the old west was addictive. Each character added more excitement and interest to each book. Heather's addition of how her life added to the books was an interesting add that I appreciated! Great read!

I disagree with your editor's thought to skip beginning of the book. Gave more inside into how the characters came into the town. Sorry the stories ended. They felt like family. Would recommend this series.

I enjoyed these stories very much and didn't mind the Word software errors as much as I usually do. Like most of us I'm a great deal like Naomi so the author's description of Naomi's struggles were very true.

This is the third time I have read this series but the first time I read them all in order at the same time. I love Heather Blanton's writing. She keeps me interested throughout the entire book and I love that her love for God comes through in her writings.

Excellent series to read. Very true to the time. Doesn't hold anything back but is still written clean. I highly recommend these books. Once you start you won't want to put them down.
