Bad Boy #1

Hawk's Call

Rate this book
Robyn felt like she’d lost her little sister Crystal when she ran off and married Guts. She was only 18 years old and she'd not heard from her in over a month.

But one night, she got a phone call from Crystal asking for help. Unfortunately the call was cut off when Guts caught her on the phone. Robyn was frantic. She was her only family and she was determined to find her.

Robyn took what little money she has and headed to Nashville. She checks into a shabby rundown motel. It’s all she can afford. She grabs a paper and looks for jobs but doesn’t see anything that suits her. The manager of the motel gives her a lead on a job at a biker bar nearby.

Hawk’s House is known for its biker customers and live music. It’s a rough and tumble kind of place but Crystal is desperate. So, she checks it out.

How bad could it be?

Series can be read in any order. HEA guaranteed, and no cliffhanger.

This was an enjoyable quick read. No real triggers. Manwhore but nice guy. School teacher searching for missing sister who could take care of herself. Writing could have been better. But I give credit for coming up with a story that interested me and giving me an HEA.

Sister turns detective when her sister disappears with a sleazy guy for parts unknown. Law enforcement won't investigate as sister is over age 18 and no crime is suspected. Frantic call from sister gives her a location to search. Romance develops when a bar owner/love interest gives her a job to supplement her dwindling funds.

* * *
Contemporary romance format.

A sweet superficial romance that contains elements of sleuthing skills and romance. Appreciated the concept and premise though the story line was predictable.

Hawk's Call was pretty interesting. In it you will meet Robyn, who has a terrible sister who likes to rebel against her all the god damn time. Then there's Hawk, who ends up helping her throughout the book. Things start to change between the two. There's attraction, sparks, chemistry, and a whole lot of smutty romance.

Of course, there's drama and shit in the way for the happy couple. Jealous woman, men who like to rough her up, and her sister's whole kind of drama. Yeah, a whole lot of drama is in this book and I enjoyed every little bit of it. Especially the romance!!

I love Robyn but I didn't really like her sister for obvious reasons. I mean I'm glad that she eventually got out of trouble and stuff.. but damn, she put her sister through hell. Other than that, I loved Robyn and Hawk together. Their first meeting was okay and I was a bit hesitant about these two. Then they had their second meeting, and DAMN FIREWORKS! I loved it.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I will definitely be diving into the next book of this series.

Audio Review

"Good Narration "
Would you try another book from Simone Carter and/or Lissa Blackwell?
I would definitely listen to another narration by Lissa Blackwell. The story itself didn't work for me I felt that it was rushed in certain areas and some of the scenes were dragged out. The main character in my opinion was too busy worried about Hawk and not really proactive when it came to finding her sister. I felt like the sister being kidnapped took a backseat to Hawk and Robyn forming a relationship. By the time we got moments with Crystal it felt rushed and I would have liked more development in that area.

Has Hawk's Call turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, I will continue to read books in this genre.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
Lissa Blackwell was able to capture the emotions of all the characters perfectly and I really enjoyed listening to this story because of her performance. If she wasn't such a good narrator I probably wouldn't have been able to finish.

Could you see Hawk's Call being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No

Any additional comments?

An entertaining, engaging and enjoyable story.

The story itself is good. A bit of mystery, suspense and a little steamy romance with enough twists to keep it interesting. Best of all there is no cliffhanger for this couple. It's a complete story with a HEA.

Being a shorter story it moves at fast pace. The instant attraction between Hawk and Robyn worked well in this story. The characters were interesting and immediately likable. Who doesn't love a rough around the edges bad boy who is really a sweetheart. Loved that Robyn was a strong independent woman. She stayed that way throughout the story. So many times the female lead starts out strong then just shrivels up, that didn't happen here.

There were a couple of times the writing didn't always flow smoothly, especially in the beginning of the story. The same thing is repeated in a slightly different way to close together.

Lissa Blackwell does a good job with the narration. Pleasant voice that is easy to listen to for long periods of time. Good character voices. Of coarse her female character voices are good. With just a slight change in her tone her male character voices are good as well. I'm really glad she didn't try to do a deep male voice. There were a couple of times the narration didn't flow smoothly in the beginning.

The quality of the audio fluctuated a couple of times. There were also a couple of times it sounded hollow like she was in a tunnel.

Wasn’t great. The story had potential but needed more, it felt rushed am with too many unexplainable actions going on. Hawk is not a bad boy he’s a nice and very rich guy who owns a bar and drives a motorcycle that’s not a bad boy. It also needed Hawks perspective not an occasional omnipresent voice of his actions or background. Robyn was innocent and naive for most of the book but then the could fight, took self defense classes because of being molested by her mother’s boyfriends. I’m sorry but that doesn’t make someone naive and innocent. Only to be strong and a fighter the next. And teachers aren’t rich but they aren’t dirt poor either. Half of the story Crystal doesn’t seem to even be a thought. And why didn’t Hawk help find her? He kept telling Robyn ‘we will find her’ whose we he didn’t do anything but hold a gun at the very end.
I read this duel threading on kindle and sometimes listened to narrated version. I didn’t love the narrators version which may be part of my opinion about Robyn being naive since the characters voice was obviously trying to be sweet and innocent which like I mentioned doesn’t fit with the women who fights guys and wins.
And what was with the detective? He’s basically an idiot detective not doing his job then suddenly shows up with Hawk after Robyn calls him on the way at the end wanting to know what happened and by the way why didn’t she call Hawk instead?

Robyn raised her little sister Crystal after their mother died, but when Crystal turned 18 she married a biker and disappeared. When Robyn gets an urgent phone call from her sister in the middle of the night, she knows something is wrong. She tracks the call to a biker bar in Nashville, and sets off to search for Crystal.

Robyn takes a job at a local biker bar owned by Hawk. He's a hulk of a man, fierce and protective. Hawk is instantly attracted to Robyn, but she's conflicted by her attraction to him and her fears over his dominant physical presence. Add in her missing sister and Robyn has a lot to deal with!

This was a steamy read that didn't end on a cliffhanger, it was a quick read you'll want to finish in one sitting. I liked that Robyn was independent, even if it did tend to get her into trouble. Hawk was likable, the story was told from Robyn's point of view but he was still fleshed out well. I thought the play on their names was cool.

The narration was well done, it immersed me in the story and Lissa Blackwell's voice fit Robyn well. Her character voices were distinct. Trigger Warning: There is a brief description of a failed sexual assault of a teen girl. I received a copy of the audiobook and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

A first glance Hawk is a bad boy, he rides a motorcycle, he owns a bar, and he certainly looks the part too.
Robyn is a school teacher who is searching for her sister Crystal who's run off with a biker and gotten in over her head.
From the first time Robyn and Hawk meet there's chemistry, but Robyn is determined to stay far away... really she is...

The characters are nicely done, they're believable and easy to connect with. The story line is engaging and is a good mix of romance, sexy fun, and action. I really enjoyed listening to it and I'll definitely be getting my hands on the next book when it's available.

Lissa's narration is good, I enjoyed her character voices and the overall delivery was good. There are a couple of points where there's a small shift in the sound and you can hear a few points where parts have been rerecorded but it's not significant.

This book was supplied free by the author/narrator/publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

This listen is a soul searching beautiful one. This will show you that you shouldn’t Judge anyone. It will show you where you least expect it , the bad boy has a heart of gold and will go out of his way to help that needs it the most .

Hero is a Hawk . Heroine is Robyn.
Robyn is loosing her mind trying to find her younger sister Crystal. Robyn was raising Crystal since she was 19 since their mother passed.
Crystal runs away with a shady character named Guts , Crystal thought life would be great with Guts . Some months later Crystal calls Robyn and asks for help. Robyn goes looking for her but runs into car problems, Hawk stopped and helped her . They go their separate ways. Robyn hears that Crystal is somewhere in a town , Robyn goes there but she notices that she’s low on funds, so Robyn starts work at a bar , and low and behold the bar is owed by Hawk . Lots of $exyal tension between them that slowly turns into love . Lots of levels in this story

Robyn receives a frantic phone call from her runaway sister that her biker BF, Guts, is hurting her. Robyn sets off to find her but her car breaks down along the way. A good Samaritan stops to help and ends up giving Robyn a ride to the motel where she'll be staying. When Robyn decides to look for a part time temp job, the motel mgr sends her to Hawk's House, a nearby biker bar. Turns out that her GS is non other than Hawk, the owner. Robyn's goal is to question the customers to locate her sister while earning some cash. We have it all in this quick, sweet story...bikers, jealous OW, bad guys and a couple getting to know each other. There is an HEA so...yay!

This is short and just an FYI, it is set in the small town of Nashville, IN not the large city in TN.

This was under whelming. Maybe because it was short, but you don't really get to know the male lead, Hawk at all. And to call this a Bad Boy book is very wrong. There just was no connection from the reader to the characters. I guess from the cover and the blurb I just expected more action and a bit rougher story. This could be a good story for someone wanting to slowing wade into darker romances with just a toe.

Narration, was fine, I liked the female narrator and would be fine to hear her again.

Bad boy romances are fun! And Simone Carter always gives a quick and entertaining story. Robyn leaves town to try and find her sister Crystal. When she reaches Nashville, she looks for a job to help pay her way while looking and ends up at a bar owned by Hawk. Instant chemistry between these two. Simone always adds a little suspense to her romance giving some body to the story. I do enjoy that Robyn is an independent woman, able to support and defend herself. Definitely some good listening with Liisa Blackwell narrating this enjoyable quick novel.

Robyn is such a strong woman having been dealt a bad hand in life early on and it doesn’t look like it’s going to get any better when her sister comes into some trouble. Luckily for Robyn, Hawk comes into the picture. She it then shown love, support and security. I loved listening to this couple and will define looking into more from this series.

This book felt adolescent. Spicy scenes had no substance so they felt like they dragged on. I found there was an attempt to portray the female protagonist as a strong woman but ended up with a weak and ridiculous woman. Almost DNF because of it.

The first thing that crossed my mind when I finished this story, Hask is a angel in a wolf's clothing. Such an uplifting story. There are such good hearted people helping Robyn to find her sister. There is hope.

Lissa Blackwell did a wonderful job bringing the story to life. I'm looking forward to hearing more from her.
