Before Victoria learned she was a princess she was the ward of the Duke and Duchess of the 24th ward. Her life was that of a servant and victim to Duke Ramsey. Things changed when she meets Kale, beau to her stepsister and she opens up to him about her life. He inspires in her a desire to escape that she must decide if she'll act on...

This companion novella to Royal Replicas is quite eye opening. We learn of why Victoria keeps hearkening back to Kale even though he's been erased from her memories. I read this with certain ideas in mind but now I understand after reading it why it was cut from the book and set off as a companion piece.

One of the problems with Royal Replicas is that you are totally puzzled why Victoria thinks anything about Kale! Yes, he's good looking but what motivates her when she has no history with him and many more problems plaguing her and taking her attention!? I was hoping this story would solve that question... it doesn't, it opens more questions as to why Kale is motivated!

"Now, Kale’s hands were in my hair, needing to explore. I needed to explore too, and Kale was my uncharted territory. For the first time in my life, there wasn’t someone peering over my shoulder, telling me no and holding me back. There was no one to confine me to my room in the cellar while the rest of the world continued to move and grow."

That isn't to say that this is a throwaway story. I quite enjoyed it and it is in line with the first book as far as quality writing and storytelling goes. There is something here that is compelling. It needed to be massaged into Royal Replicas though. I would have taken it from the beginning and started it the same but then created situations where Kale walked her through similar experiences at the palace as they shared before. Of course different experiences would have to be developed that could be managed at a palace but it would have shown Kale's connection while also sharing with Victoria a reason to linger over Kale. That would have fit nicely in place of that aborted escape.

One change necessitates other changes but through these a writer becomes more creative as they cast off their initial ideas and stretch their storytelling capabilities!

BOTTOM LINE: If you read Royal Replicas you need to read this novella!

Thanks to Michael Pierce for providing me with this novella in exchange for subscribing to his newsletter.

Yes! I finally learned what happened between Kale and Victoria.
Obviously I read Royal Replicas first, and that made me really curious about what happened.
A good addition to the previous book.

I received a free copy and this is my honest review.

This was a nice prequel edition to Royal Replicas. I read Royal Replicas first but, you can still read this prequel short story first it has no spoilers for the story. It describes how Victoria and Kale met and up to the beginning of Royal Replicas.

I'm writing this review after reading Royal Replicas, so I know where the title comes from, and yeah, it just adds another level of soul-crushing horrible-ness from that ending! Otherwise, this short story was really sweet, besides the head of the household guy! He was absolutely awful!

Victoria Sandalwood, stepsister to Johanna and Mina Ramsey, is treated more like a servant. Forced to work, wear cast-offs, and sleep in the basement, Victoria is astonished to find that one of Johanna's many admirers has noticed her. She meets with Kale in secret and they plan to go away together but the best laid plans...... A short, but pacy, prequel to the series which introduces you to the main characters. I am definitely looking forward to reading more about this world in the next book.

I received a free copy of the ebook, via Instafreebie, and I am voluntarily giving an honest review.

This was fun! Usually I am pretty biased when there is a love triangle that is between a Prince and a home town friend. I always go for the Prince lol. But after reading this short and seeing into Victoria's memories I now have a soft spot for Kale, Victoria's first love. I am happy I read book 1 before reading this short prequel, just because I feel like I connected with the characters and story more. What I got from this novella: Kale is not only a good guy he swoon worthy, I want to slap Johanna, I love Mina even more and now I am even more desperate to start book 2. It was interesting seeing into Victoria's past and wouldn't mind discovering more between her and Kale.

*may contain spoilers for future books, if my guesses are correct*
I was really excited to learn about what happened between Kale and Victoria. This short novella answers my questions, but left me hungry for more. I feel like I didn’t have a chance to fall in love with Kale the way I wanted to.
On top of that, I have this ache in my heart that the 8th sister, who passed away, was Kales real love. I can tell that’s where this is heading, which makes me wonder about his real feelings toward Victoria. He says in Royal Replicas he only sees her, but this makes me wonder if he sees the lost sister.
Time will tell.

Expected a little more revealing, but suspense may yet be answered. Read 1, then .5, taking a break to reread a chriton book I had been waiting to buy, then will resume with 2. Hope my suspense will be rewarded. Enjoyable books so far.

Oh wow. Now I totally understand what happened. How Kale new Victoria. What was going to happen, but she was caught. I feel so bad for Victoria, because that nasty Ramsey man is just wrong. He keeps getting on my nerves!!!

I need more!!!

Royal Reset is a prequel to Royal Replicas that explores Victoria's life before she had her memories reset at the beginning of the first book. I did enjoy this book. It was interesting to explore how Victoria and Kale met, Victoria's relationship with Mina, and the failed escape plan. If you've read Royal Replicas, be sure to read this prequel!
