Elyssa Thompson, wealthy Manhattan upper class girl, wants something more from life, something meaningful beyond the drunken rich kid parties and shallow talk about clothes and makeup.
Zander Fredrick, street kid, victim of a broken foster care system, survives with the help of his power to project feelings onto other people. When he sees Elyssa in Central Park one day, he feels a pull toward her, something beyond attraction, something that promises of home and happiness.
Can Elyssa and Zander cross the divide of social class to be together?
Martine Lewis is a forty something who was born and raised in the French speaking province of Quebec, Canada. She spent her childhood looking forward to her summer vacations at the farm, which were a nice escape from the suburbs where she lived.
Her first written endeavor was a 200-page handwritten Duran Duran bandfiction which she wrote when she was eleven years old. Of all her written work, this is the only one she no longer has.
All throughout high school, Martine wrote more bandfictions and some original work, then she went to write fanfictions in the Star Wars, Buffy and Harry Potter universes. Her fanficiton in the Potterverse are mostly centered on characters of her own creation and can be found on fanfiction.net.
Following her viewing of Roswell on Netflix in 2012, Martine wrote book two and three of the Gray Eyes Series, then went on to create the Gray Eyes Series universe in which she has been playing ever since. She writes contemporary coming-of-age romance fiction (young adult/new adult) with a twist.
Martine is an avid reader and rollerskater. She loves sushi, hot chocolate on a cold day, and the beach. But what she loves above all else is to curl on her chair with her computer and write more stories for her readers.
Martine currently lives in Houston TX with her two cats.
So after the explosive book 2 we have learned more about those with the empath powers and learned a smidge more about those looking for them. So we begin Book 3 in this enticing series with Elyssa and Zander. She's a wealthy socialite (think the cast of Gossip Girl) tired of the pomp and circumstance that goes with that world and Zander is a streetwise guy who has survived the broken foster care system. (This Book became surprisingly socially conscious!) the scene also changed from Texas to the bustling metropolis of New York City. Which really is a character all on its own. Martine does a fantastic job really giving us the feel of the city.
Elyssa is not your typical entitled rich girl and I am so glad she is this strong character! She does kind of go with the crowd sometimes but for the most part she takes the path less taken by those born to privilege. The scenes where she is working in the youth center and interacting with those kids really made her a stand out character. Zander is also a very interesting character! Even though you can tell from the glimpses we see of his past he has had a extremely rough life after being left on the steps of a church when he was young he has this drive to succeed and his artistic talent brings so much beauty into the world to drive out the gloomy feel of his life.
As their relationship blossoms Zander discovers more and more about who and what he is and that leads to a major Reveal that leaves the reader reeling and wondering how they didn't notice before haha. This series has really grown in depth since book one and that leaves me eagerly anticipating each new book left in the series.
I was totally immersed in this novel. Get to know these two and their story was a wonderful way to spend the weekend. I'm starting g the next book in the series now.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book for Fallen for Books.
Walking the Divide is the third book in The Gray Eyes series. I really enjoyed this installment of the series. The diversity of the two characters made for such an interesting read!
Elyssa Thompson is a rich girl who lives with her father and aunt in a very nice home just outside of Central Park. She doesn’t really fit into the “class” that her aunt thinks she belongs in. She is more than her family’s money. She frequently separates herself from that group and lifestyle by volunteering at the local youth center.
Zander Fredrick is a street kid. He grew up going through foster care and doesn’t know anything different. The first time he saw Elyssa in Central Park, he felt a sense of calm and peace that he had never felt before. While he is sure that she is obviously out of his league and never would have a chance with her, he can’t help but hope that he will see her again.
Elyssa and Zander couldn’t live more opposite lives. They go to different schools and live in completely different types of homes. Can they ignore and get passed all of that and others’ opinions and just get to know one another? What happens when it feels like one betrayed the other? Can they get passed it?
This was another great book in The Gray Eyes series. I absolutely recommend it and also recommend reading them in order. I cannot wait to discover how all of the characters are linked!
Such a great book. It has bits of fantasy but nothing over the top. I love how the series is mostly a standalone but there's always something that ties everything together. Such great characters and great storyline.
