Steg de Coeur, his friends, and the mercenary Ebony Company are collected by a superdreadnought sent by the Glass Complex. Xesset are threatening a major attack on the Western Star Empire, the Alliance, and a number of free, unaligned systems, including Djii. Homeworld and Djii have formed a naval task force to defend their planets from this threatened alien attack, and the Glass Complex has created high-level AIs to manage the flagship of the new fleet.

Steg rescues his friend Denke from an ImpSec takeover and captures his old enemy, Marius of the House of Aluta. Denke joins Steg to make overtures to the Emperor where they are attacked by ImpSec. They succeed in escaping and make their way to the headquarters of the Alliance government where they also persuade the military to support their task force.

Battles with Xesset starships threaten their AIs. Steg has the fleet he needs to counter-attack the Xesset. This battle and subsequent events - including another duel -  bring the trilogy to a close.

Brilliant read

This author is new to me and I was pleasantly surprised at the depth and complexity of the story, the fast pace and ongoing enjoyment. I do hope there are other books that extend the story and provide ongoing entertainment

First, let me say that I rarely write out a full review. I only do so when I feel that a book (or series, author, etc.) deserves special recognition. I most certainly feel that the Glass Complex Trilogy, and author John Hindmarsh, deserve for me to spend a little time to leave a written review.

I cannot recommend the Glass Complex Trilogy enough. All three books in the trilogy were compelling reads in their own right, but the overall series was simply incredible. This is the type of find that simply makes me giddy, because it delivers far more than expected.

From the first chapter, I was hooked. The story was fast paced, creative, and I was truly sad that I had finished the book. Ultimately, that is a simple rule of thumb for me to know if a book (or series) is truly special. This trilogy is truly special.

The expected scientific advances found in most space operas were intertwined by the author with certain ancient cultural traditions in a way I found to be unique and essential to the narrative. I am not going to give away any spoilers, so I will wrap up my review. But I highly recommend this series to anyone looking for a diamond in the rough. This series is absolutely worth a look.

Quite A Journey!

This is a review for all three books.
The first book started a little slow due to some world building and character development, as it should. It didn’t take long for me to be totally invested in the main characters story.
It didn’t take long to hate the interlopers who decided to take over his planet.
The storyline was engrossing throughout all three books.

The second book was equally good and took several unexpected twists and turns. Of course, all leading to the third and last book.
I thought this part of the story was more intense in some ways. I wondered several times how the author was going to get Steg out of the deadly situations he found himself in, through no fault of his own. He managed ingeniously!

I didn’t want the third book to end.I am ready for further adventures, and hoping the author will deliver!

If you are a fan of good space soap opera, you will enjoy this series!

Before you read this one, please note it is the third book of a series: if you haven’t read the first two books, the characters and events will not make much sense to you.

The author picked up the tale right where he left off with the cliffhanger ending of book two, and without having a spoiler the ending was a bit anticlimactic and too tie-the-bow neat considering the buildup of the first two books. The ending has two possible scenarios: it could be the end of the trilogy or set the stage for a continuation. Regardless of my comments on the ending above, I did enjoy the series and if it is continued I will go along for the ride to see where the author’s imagination takes us.

Only a trilogy

Book was written in 2017, I'm reading this in 2025 and this is the last book in the series, which seems a strange ending given how it ends and the potential for so much more
It's a very good bordering 5*, but not quite. The whole series draws you in and you want to keep turning the pages to see what happens next. It's rarely obvious.
My only issue with the last book and in reality the series, is Stegs abilities just give him too much of an advantage. When you see what he can do, you question why anyone else is needed, then AIs come along and there is even less reason

Meh

It was an okay book. A decent finish to a pretty cookie cutter sci fi trilogy. I wasn't over impressed. It carried the same issues as the rest of the series. The first book is still the best. Relationships just sort of appear. There's very little actual development and the "show don't tell" technique is not utilised which makes it very difficult to get involved and attached to the characters.

Excellent conclusion to a series. A little contrived at the ending.

Very good finish to a book. All the endings were wrapped up with satisfying conclusions. The action was fast paced still not a great deal of character development. Good world building, good tech tree for science fiction. Left the world open for additional books. Since this is an older series I wonder why the author did not continue writing in this world.

Glass Complex 1-3

What a good series. Lots of action, good camaraderie among the characters.
It's hard to imagine a ship the size of the Wanderer. Steg is quite the hero.
If you can, be sure to read the Mark Midway series. Sooo good!
One can not go wrong reading a book by John Hindmarsh. His books give you all you need for entertainment, getting the point across without adding any gutter language.

Diamond Cut (Glass Complex Trilogy #3) by John Hindmarsh

A great finish to the series! I completely enjoyed reading this last installment of the trilogy. The writing was clean and the timing well paced. The characters drove the plot, and were more dimensional than before. The action was clean, and well done.
So go read it! After you read the other two, of course.

Steg keeps busy

Steg continues to work on building the joint fleet needed to protect their respective societies. The different AIs are proving to be very effective support to help manage the coalition forces. The Xesess may become more of a threat than before, so they will have to work together on a viable strategy.

3 stars. While OK for a light read, throughout the series (and this book in particular), there is zero character growth and everything "just happens" to advance the story in ways to make the MC successful in everything he attempts.

This gets 2-stars because I reserve 1-star for the truly horrible. Each book in the trilogy has gotten progressively more poorly written and increasingly preposterous; the characters empty shells of stereotype.

Again a great book.

This is a excellent novel, and a unwelcome end to this series. Please keep this series going. I find the style of writing to be very enjoyable. The plot lines with the embedded twist a pure joy to read.

I read all three books in the trilogy, hoping that the ending would justify the effort of reading the books. Did not happen.
