I never got involved in the dirt and the details of an investigation. I never let my preconceptions muddy a reconstruction. And I steadfastly refrained from ever allowing my past to dictate my future.
At least until the one person I couldn’t lose went missing.
Because then I’d relive every dark moment of my childhood, confront every heartbreak, and even sell my soul if that was what it took to get her back.
Because I couldn’t accept a future — not even a promised one of immortality and unbridled power — that didn’t include one of the only two people I’d ever truly loved. -------------------- This 76,000 word urban fantasy is the second book in the Reconstructionist Series by author Meghan Ciana Doidge. Author’s note: the ideal reading order of the Reconstructionist Series is after the first six books in the Dowser Series and the three books in the Oracle series, but it's not absolutely necessary to read the Dowser or the Oracle series before reading the Reconstructionist Series.
Meghan Ciana Doidge writes tales of true love conquering all, even death. Though sometimes the love is elusive, the vampires and werewolves come out to play in the daylight, and bloody mayhem ensues.
This second book of the reconstructionist trilogy continues the story of the Fairchild 3 - three young Fairchild witches that broke with their family after tragic events in their past. Although Wisteria Fairchild, the reconstructionist, is the lead of these books, the book focuses on both Wisteria's cousin Jasmine, and Jasmine's half brother Declan. Kett, vampire elder and executioner, also features prominently in this set. The adventures continue and ramp up with this second book, but readers will have to read the 3rd book for any closure. Make sure to read this series in the author recommended order.
I have enjoyed the Reconstructionist books in the series more than I have enjoyed the other books in her series for awhile now. The Fairchild storyline is rich and I look forward to more from the Connecticut part of this world.
Review: I liked this one a little better than the first! I feel like I got to know and understand and connect with Wisteria more. I saw more passion from her, and learning the backstory that kept being alluded to in Book 1 gave me more insight into her. She can also be quite badass, it turns out. We also got to meet Declan this time, and his fiery, short-tempered personality was somewhat opposite Wisteria's, but he was likeable too.
And of course there was Kett. I love me some interesting, vampire-y vampires! He was still his scarily powerful and somewhat aloof self, but he had some actual conversations with Wisteria this time. He's a type of vampire I feel like you don't often see as a love interest. He's so powerful and inhuman and cold, the kind of vampire who's so removed from humanity that he basically thinks of humans as ants, that's how below his notice or care they generally are, but it just makes me even more intrigued. I want to know what he's like when someone gets past that outer shell. Also, all the talk of him having sex with people has me weirdly curious to know what he's like in bed lol.
But I thought Yale was an interesting kind of vampire too. The kind who is cocky and toys with humans for fun and does whatever he wants because he can. He was terrible, but I was kind of intrigued by him too.
This book also had a good plot, and I got more into it than the first book's. The stakes were higher for Wisteria. There was tension and history between Wisteria and Declan as they worked together. There was mystery. There was backstory about Wisteria's past and family. I also liked the acknowledgement that looking the other way or choosing not to believe when you know something bad is being done is not ok. There still wasn't really romance yet, but I like that this is turning out to be a different sort of romance since Kett is a different sort of character.
Overall a great second book in this urban fantasy series!

This review contains spoilers for Unleashing Echoes (Reconstructionist Book 3). You have been double warned.
So many great things happen in this book…only for them to get undone in the third. I don’t remember much about the plot except Jasmine gets mortally wounded and Kett “saves” her by making her his child instead of Wisteria. I’m firmly Team Keteria. Jasmine is fine, but she’s the least interesting of the main characters. You don’t miss her presence in this story, like you would, for example, when Kandy isn’t with Jade.
The chemistry between Kett and Wisteria is fire. “We were swirling and twisting around the room in perfect sync. we stirred the air. The floor vibrated underneath our feet, magic whirling in our wake. No one could stand against us, no power would stop us. We were the music.” And then the admission — “I’ll give you whatever you want, whenever you want it.” It should have been Wisteria.
Declan is too volatile and angry. He comes in as a dick and remains that way. Go away and live your happily ever after with Copper. Wisteria deserves better.
Wisteria ranks up there with Jade and Kandy. I hope, however, it ends for her in this connected universe, it’s something that brings her happiness.
And finally, how do I get myself a Brownie? I could use the help with the housecleaning and the laundry and the dishes and all those other annoying things. 😆

This novel was a good continuation from the Reconstructionist #1 (Catching Echoes). The main character, Wisteria, is a likable young woman and fairly self-confident. She clearly has become a success with her career as a witch that can reconstruct scenes from the past using residual magic that remains after the events take place. She has a comfortable downtown apartment in Seattle and expensive, classic attire. This book covers events when Wisteria's cousin (and close companion) Jasmine goes missing. To find her, Wisteria must return to her home town and question family members that she hasn't communicated with in many years, including her half cousin Declan. Of course, having one problem is not enough. Wisteria's life seems to be intertwined with a powerful vampire, Kett. She is both drawn to Kett and fearful of him at the same time. Kett has his own agenda when it comes to Wisteria and her family. Kett has a provided Wisteria with a contract signed by her Uncle Jasper that could have one of the family members getting much more deeply involved with the vampire Conclave.
The story is easy to read. The characters are mostly intriguing. Some are a little flat when not quite enough of their back story is provided. However, getting too much bad story could slow down the pace. I would have liked to have seen and heard a little more of Uncle Jasper since he clearly had very important role as Wisteria and her cousins were developing their magical skills. Perhaps a few more flashbacks to those years and the magical training would have helped readers understand how the main characters lives were shaped. References to the past history with Jasper were very vague in early parts of the book and then in later parts were perhaps too focused on a couple key incidents. What sounded like many years with Jasper seemed to be distilled into a few highlighted events. Perhaps he may resurface when Kett takes further action on the aforementioned contract.
Tangled Echoes (Reconstructionist Book 2)Kindle Edition by Meghan Ciana Doidge I borrowed this book from the Kindle Unlimited program and am choosing to leave a fair and honest review.
Wisteria Fairchild is a Reconstructionist. Using her wild magic, she is able to recreate a scene. Any kind of scene, but most often she works on crime scene. That may be why Kettil, the Executioner, has chosen her to be his Child out of her entire family.
When her beloved cousin goes missing, she finds that she has no choice but to return home, a place she escaped years ago in order to save her cousin and her first and only love, Declan. She fled her uncle, the man who created the contract with Kett to make a Fairchild into a vampire, preferably the evil uncle.
The story never stops moving, never stops twisting and never stops grabbing the reader by the throat to keep turning the pages. Lovers find each other again but have to decide whether they want each other. Vampires fight against each other and against magic. And Kett learns that Wisteria is morethan he thought and worth far more than anything he ever sought.
Doidge's magical systems are unique and intriguing. And the family dynamics are more frightening than the evil doers, but also more realistic.
While this is connected to Doidge's Dowser series (which I have never read) it can be read alone.
As you can tell by fact i have read all the series, try to read in series order as the books are not stand alone stories. Werewolves, Seers, Cupcakes, vampires, mages, Dragons and Chocolate

Trinkets, Treasures, and Other Bloody Magic, Dowser 2 3. Treasures, Demons, and Other Black Magic, Dowser 3 4. I See Me, Oracle 1 5. Shadows, Maps, and Other Ancient Magic, Dowser 4 6. Remember how the last book just dangled secrets and left you wanting more? Well, this book is the punch we were all looking for.
Wisteria is going about her normal, controlled life, complete with the impending vampire-dom hanging over her head. Everything shifts when one of her triad of "loves" ends up going missing. It takes a brief call from Declan (another third of the triad) for her to drop all her previous agreements and show up back in Fairchild territory. It was simply amazing to watch Wisteria come in to her powers in this book. We learn all the secrets, we get to watch all the drama and baggage get unpacked, and we get a really truly satisfying ending, too!
This book had everything for me. It had romance, some sexy sizzle, lots of magic and power, a bit of a mystery, and a tough main character who will do literally anything to protect her friends. I admit to dragging my feet a little before getting into this book because the previous one left me feeling a little "meh" about her. This book has me immediately looking to what book is next in the series and how fast I can get to it. I cannot wait to see what happens with the estate, the friends, the hierarchy, the vampires, and all of the magical mayhem that will undoubtedly happen along the way.
Fantastic read. Preview to follow..... An other incredible book, by an incredible author. SherBear Book Review Reconstructionist # 2 by Meghan Ciana Doidge@https://madebymeghan.ca/novels/ Well guys, this story is incredible, however, I'm getting ahead of myself. First, you do not have to read The Dowser and Oracle series to read The Reconstructionist series, but in my opinion I'd recommend doing so as a way to get to know all the characters. The Adept universe has incredible characters that you'll come to know and love throughout the Adept series. It starts with the Dowser Series, blending into The Oracle series, then back to The Dowser series, and finally, into the Reconstructionist series. (see made by Meghan.ca, for correct reading order). You first meet Jade in the “Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic” book, along with other characters that reappear in all of Meghan's books pertaining to the Adept World. Now back to “Tangled Echoes”, Reconstructionist #2. We first met Wisteria in the Dowser series, which peaks our interest by wanting to get to know her better. Wisteria meets Kett's in “Catching Echoes”, where she is hired to take, & make, reconstructions of a murder along with working with The Witches Council and The Conclave, aka Kettil The Executioner. This story grabs you from the first paragraph and you can't stop reading. Wisteria is complicated, quiet and reserved. You come to understand that her past is tormenting her, and keeping her from understanding what she is capable of. The ending is a major cliff-hanger that ensures you have to read book 2, “Tangled Echoes”. Starting from the opening paragraphs on page one, you will learn Wisteria has been given a major choice, one which will change her life forever (sorry no spoilers). You'll love this next story as Wisteria and Kettle change and grow to understand what they are possibly meant to become. This is another incredible story from Meghan Ciana Doidge. Can't wait for Reconstructionist #3 to be released. I'd highly recommend this series from beginning to end. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If I could rate higher I would! An awesome read, Enjoy!!!!!
This is the second installment of the Reconstruction series, which takes place in the adept world like the Dowser and Oracle series. Wisteria Fairchild has captured the attention of Kett, the executioner vampire of the Conclave. She is certainly special on her own, with unreached potential power. Yet Kett's interest brings possibilities of danger and intrigue. She is tied to her cousin Jasmine and Jasmine's half brother, Declan. The three were trained by their sociopathic uncle as children and endured significant trauma. This book helps the reader understand why Wisteria sometimes appears cold and withdrawn. She is reluctant to trust, justifiably so. As a fan of Kett for a while now, I'm glad he is getting more attention now. The opportunities with Wisteria and her friendship with Kett are limitless and I look forward to watching their relationship grow.
Great Series. Started 1st Cupcakes, Trinkets and Other Deadly Magic on December 9th, then went binged all the others and today I start Unleashing Echoes.
1st reason - I've enjoyed this series is I really like the main characters and their friends. I've found for me, if I don't like the people I'm reading about I don't enjoy the story. Her characters are complex with flaws but they care and they are trying to do what's right, which is not always easy.
Plus each Main character saw the world through their experiences which definitely, for me, gave them life.
2nd reason - Story. The story in each book kept my interest from beginning to end and the humor found was refreshing and, while I don't care about sex in a story, you didn't make the sex more important than the story so it did a good job of enhancing both the story and characters.
We are introduced to Declan in this book and given much more insight into Wisteria Fairchild's memories - the good and the horrific. The author introduces us to the Fairchild clan that Wisteria left behind - for very good reasons. Kett and Jasmine are there too, and all are in danger.. Well, Kett probably isn't..
We also get to see Wisteria fully embrace her very powerful magic, with help from the "trinket" crafted by the Dowser, Jade Godfrey.
This book deals with some very dark content and issues. I still highly recommend reading it. If you are new to this author, you should definitely read the rest of all of the series, as recommended by the author, or else you will probably be lost with all of the interactions and characters.
This is book 2 in a new series by MCD. She has quite a few under her belt now. Technically, the Echoes series is good. MCD is a talented author and her creativity is fantastic. Her first , the Dowser series has really taken off . All of the spin off series are in the Dowser Universe. So I have faith that this one is going to work some magic for me, just not quite yet. I am left a little bewildered by the actual story and cohesiveness. The characters didn't pull me in or engage me. I found it very YA, so maybe that's the audience it's going for. I will keep up with it, and wait for the continuation of the other series. MCD is an author to watch.
This book is, for me, is about attachments. The strong attachment between the characters in the story and the surprisingly strong attachment I formed to each of them. The events in the lives of three of the characters, and the way the characters are drawn, triggers a fierce sense of loyalty from me. The need to see them protected, vindicated, and safe had me flying through the book the first time I read it. On this, my second reading, I was able to cherish all the nuances of their connection. If you have not read this book, I hope you do so just to spend some time with characters that feel so real in a world that you may come to almost believe actually is.
I very seldom leave reviews but Meghan Ciana Doide has written an amazing epic story woven thru multiple series. I have read just about everything she has written except for a couple that are advertised as a stand alone, although she might expand them, that is me wishing. Tangled Echoes is the latest episode and it didn't disappoint at all. Answered old questions and presented new ones that make me want the next book now. So in the meantime I shall re-read the entire series in the order suggested.
Another wonderful, amazing installment in the Adept universe. I couldn't put it down. This one is much much darker than any of her previous books. I did not see just how dark it was going. When Wisteria talked about how dark her family was, I speculated, hoping it wouldn't get this dark, but it did. However, it did not take away from the overall amazingness of the books. Sometimes, life gets dark and Meghan did not shy away from that here. I'm starting to love Kett even more. I cannot wait to see what happens next! I definitely recommend this book.
The second book to the series is excellent! Wisteria and Kett are growing in their relationship and other truths will be revealed. Jasmine goes missing and Declan is back seeking help from Wisteria. The Fairchild family has new secrets revealed and a lot is changing. There is plenty of action and lots of twists. You will find out more about how Jasper Fairchild was a evil person to Wisteria, Jasmine, and Declan and his biggest secret. Read and learn about the past and a look into a possible future!
Reconstructionist witch, Wisteria Fairchild, finds herself involved with more than her normal coven duties when the powerful, ancient vampire, Kett, takes an unusual interest in Wisteria's talents and her life. Of course, that's just when the traumas from her childhood threaten to shatter her mundane existence. I consumed this book. There was just so much happening at the same time, every situation just as interesting and riveting. The drama and danger remained close by Wisteria and her cousins. This amazing story with it's tough, spunky characters was a pleasure to read. Just Great!!!!!
Meghan's Dowser series is fantastic, but I feel like she has really created something special with the Reconstructionist series- and this book is her best yet! Wisteria is an intriguing and layered character who sometimes surprises you, and this book has a darker and deeper tone than previous stories. I was enthralled with it and am very much looking forward to the next in the series!
Wisteria has to decide whether or not to be immortal.
Wisteria gets a call that her cousin and best friend is missing and she must go home to help find Jasmine with the help of her half brother. And she has been given an contract from Kett to be turned into a vampire or her evil uncle will be chosen and that could be dangerous. This was a great a story within the browser universe which reveals some of Kett's back story. Going to start the next book soon.
I liked this one so much better than the first in the Reconstructionist series. It was less focused on fashion and labels, and more on character and plot. I liked Wisteria in this one, and her relationship with Declan and Jasmine. I want her to stay, and remake Jasper’s estate. And I didn’t hate Kettil as much in this one. I’m excited I already have the next in the series so I can jump right in. This book had depth and emotion, and was a vast improvement over the first.
As always Meghan Diana Doidge produced another enthralling story. I read it too fast and now I have to wait for her next book. Kett is sexier than any vampires in recent stories. Wisteria is a strong intelligent heroine; who rescues herself and those she loves; sans whining and expletives.
OMG!!! For some reason, the 2nd book in any series doesn't usually thrill me. I read it...by I have to. Having said that, I loved this book even better than the first!!!! Maybe bc some questions were answered? Maybe bc I had a basis for the storyline? I'd why but I don't care!!!! I never wanted this book to end! Now, I have to wait...none too patiently, for the next one!
I didn't think it could get any better than the last one, but I was wrong. What a powerful read and one I couldn't put down. Meghan makes you feel as though you are right there with the characters in the story and you feel what they feel. She is an amazing author and now I'm on to the next book in the collection.
I love her work! I read the first book in the Dowser series and I was hooked. Her characters are well developed and believable. Meghan Doidge has created an interesting world that is different from the usual witch/vampire stories. It is always so exciting to find an author who sees a different view. I am planning on reading all her books.
The Fairchild family is one really messed up group of people. The secrets which come out in this book are evidence of how clearly the family believes power is more important than anything else. It’s a miracle the three youngest are as sane and balanced as they are
Can I just say omg omg omg! Lol. Meghan has such a way with words and she just keeps reeling you in. I was hanging on every word. The suspense.. the action. I absolutely loved every minute of it! I highly recommend this book to everyone 😁
This series is addictive! Meghan does not disappoint her fans with book two, I am excited for part 3, also sad part two is over as I was greedy and read to fast instead of savoring it. 😉
