How to Begin Again: A Hannah Miller Short Story

Rate this book
Hannah Miller is stuck in the past. Although she hasn’t told a soul, she can’t stop thinking about her ex-boyfriend, Colin, the guy who pulled her into a lot of trouble at her old school. She’s working hard to move on with a fresh start. Her parents sent her to a private school to reform her and she loves the new friends she made there, but that hasn’t stopped her from secretly looking up romantic pictures of her with Colin. Despite her best efforts, she can’t let go.
But all she has to do is look out her bedroom window, which looks straight into the bedroom of Evan Bellingham, the hottie who goes to her new school. But when he invites her over and surprises her with the song he’d written for her, she begins to wonder if he’s the key to helping her learn how to begin again.

Cindy Ray Hale loves to write romcoms set in small towns and has been writing and publishing books since 2012, all the while, laughing at her own funny stories. She is married to the sweetest guy and has a blended family with him, consisting of seven kids.

She loves nerding out on video games, creating book covers, and drinking too much caffeine. When she can find a moment, she loves to sing and play the piano and often includes acting and singing somewhere in her stories.

She was born and raised in the hills of Tennessee in a large crazy family and as an adult, has moved all over the United States. She's finally settled down in a small town in the mountains of western Virginia where she loves to go hiking, boating, and dig in her garden.

Have I mentioned how much I love Hannah? This story wrote itself because Hannah was screaming at me, wanting to tell how she really feels about things...despite being so secretive about everything. But isn't that how life can be sometimes? We can only hold our pain inside for so long before it begins to eat away at us. It usually helps to spill about what's bugging us, right?

Within these six pages, I've revealed more about Hannah's true feelings than you get from her throughout the two books that I have published from The Destiny Trilogy. See for yourself...

This is a really short story, but this author has her finger on the pulse of teenage relationships. I was taken away for a few minutes to experience the great beginning of a new relationship, while the character struggles to move on past a former one. Short, sweet, to the point, and utterly adorable.

*I got a copy through instafreebie, which didn't affect my opinion.*

Really super short

Hannah is trying to move on from her break up but still living in the past relationship. Like the boy next door feel. Would have like to read more though.

How to Begin Again

This was definitely a short story. It was a cute ya story. If I would not have gotten it for free though, I would be very disappointed. If the author leaves it as a perma-free or newsletter sign-up freebie to show her writing style, I think it's perfect.

Initially I thought this short story was worthy of 3 stars but then I thought about why I was giving it that score and decided it was better than I'd first thought.

This short story is incredibly short, but following on are the first two chapters of Destiny, Book One in the Destiny Trilogy.

I am reading out of my comfort zone when reading YA. I tend to forget that the story is aimed at a younger reader - much younger - and therefore may not appeal directly to me. I do, however, think that this story will appeal to the YA audience, especially the younger end of that deomgraphic.

I liked that there is a religious aspect to this series and that it would be a 'clean romance'.

At the end of the story I did feel that I wanted to find out more about the various teens who had been introduced, and am therefore enticed into reading the series, which afterall is the aim of this story.

I have not read the books that this short story is a part of. So I know nothing about the series. But this short story was pretty good. It made me go out and buy the first book in the series. So I am curious where the story goes. I enjoyed all the characters. It was just really really short. So if it was a little longer I probably would have enjoyed it alot more. But overall it was fast and cute.

Boring. I don't think it could get more vanilla than this. Definitely not my style. Maybe if I was eight. Could not find one thing about this book that intrigued me. Boring characters, boring love story. Not interested at all in continuing with this author or these characters. This is a short story that never needed to be written.

A extremely short story that I received off of insta freebie, where you have to sign up for the authors email.
I was expecting a short story, but this one is way to short.
The characters are very engaging and it didn't lose me through the story. I really wanted to go on.
Just way way way to short.

A really, really short story apparently of a side character of the authors main book. I liked it, although the characters were a bit „soapy teens“.
After I finished I thought I give the main book „Destiny“ a try but quickly stopped as it involves religious elements – a Romeo and Juliet kind of story, not a bad concept but just not for me.

A sweet chapter short that really whets my appetite for the series. I read that chronologically it happens in book two so I was wary about reading it first, but since I appeared first in the boxset, I figured I’d trust the author’s positioning.

This was a quick read and my introduction to Cindy Ray Hale's story telling. I enjoyed Hannah's story a lot. It was a short and sweet read. It made me curious to read more about the character. To learn more about her and to dive into Cindy's other books. The writing was clean and engaging. I have to admit, with the mention of Evan's southern twang and his blue eyes and the fact that he played guitar and sang...yes, I thought of Elvis. It was hard not to. But I liked it for more than just that. I look forward to reading more from this author. 4 quills.

It is a great talent, being able to tell a complete love story in just a few pages! And you even get the feeling you get to know the main characters.
Makes me want to read more!

This was a cute short (SHORT) story. It was a good insight into Hannah. However, I'm not sure why Hannah never told Destiny about Collin. I know Hannah said it was too painful to bring up, but that's a really really big secret to keep from a best friend.

A cute, but very short story about a girl falling for a guy, after having her heart broken. Choosing to move forward instead of dwelling on what could have been. Looking forward to starting the Destiny trilogy!
