Murder? One call is all it takes to shatter Elise Dalton’s heart. Her father’s been murdered and the accused is none other than the man she had given her heart to. Though he’d cut himself out of her life years earlier, being the daughter to the chief of police, she has heard enough gossip to let her know that the choices he’s made have lead him down a path of self-destruction. He isn’t the same man she’d fallen in love with but a part of her doesn’t want to believe he could kill her father in cold blood.

Gun carrying, motorcycle riding, bad boy Flash Arquette has done some terrible shit in his life. He’s even taken the fall for someone, and every time he’s done the time for his crimes. This time, though, he’s innocent and no one’s listening to him. He doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him except Elise. She had to know the truth. He’s hurt her enough in the past, but he would never have done this to her. The only problem is the convincing evidence against him and his inability to give them proof of his innocence without breaking the contract he signed.

Their lives have taken opposing paths, but as the steel bars close around Flash, Elise realizes she’s lost him for good. The small ray of hope that he could change dies and the grief doubles. When those around Flash come forth with information that he’s been set up, she’s not sure she believes them, but she has to find out the truth. Nothing will bring her father back but she might be able to save Flash from death row.

I gave this book 4stars!

I have read several of Ms. Dobson's books and I have to say that this one kept me wanting more throughout the book. She gives us twist, turns and several surprises. From the start we get to see Elise heart shattered for the second time. She finds out her dad has been murder. The person they are saying that done it...is the other person that shattered her heart...Flash.

Flash is Mr. Bad boy...gun carrying, motorcycle riding, took the Fall for someone else. But this time he is innocent and know one is listening. He doesn't care what anyone thinks except Elise.

Elise has had people come to her and tell her that Flash is innocent but she doesn't believed them. When her boss and partner show up does she start to do her own investigation. What she finds shocks her. Can she find a way to take down the real person who murdered her father and let Flash back into her heart?

This book is fast pace and is filled with turns and twist. If your looking for a good read and second chance love story look no further.

Elise Dalton was raised to respect the law and all that it entailed. Having a knack working on computers was a big drawing point for her joining the FBI. She trusted her team and she trusted in her government. All her beliefs are put to the test when she returns home after her father has been murdered by none other than the man that she gave her heart too, Flash Arquette. At least that is what she is being told by the police. Yet others are making her question what she is being told. But is she letting her heart intrude on common sense, or is there something more going on?

Flash is innocent of the crime that they are accusing him of. He would never kill Elise’s father, even if the man hated him being with his daughter. Flash’s life deviated from Elise’s and he allowed himself to be immersed in a darker path of life. Now he will protect Elise from the dangers that threatening to take her life. He will destroy everyone that was involved in the pain that he sees in her eyes and he will be her shelter when she needs it. Little does he know that the shelter he offers her is the one that she will need when the deceptions and dangers are uncovered. Lies will come to light, betrayal will be revealed. Will the lovers be able to weather the storm that is upon them, or will they allow what is coming to destroy their second change at happiness?

I have been a fan of Marissa Dobson’s work for a while and I was floored with DIFFERENT SIDES. The action comes on quickly and there are twists and turns that I didn’t see. I really empathized with Elise. But her character is so strong and resilient. And Flash is a whole cupful of awesomesauce with a side of whip cream! He is so loving with Elise and dangerous to those that threaten her. He is a very strong male character that has accepted his past and knows what he wants for his future. I devoured this story in only a couple of hours and was thoroughly satisfied. I will be on the lookout for the next book in this awesome new series!

independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

A single phone call and Elise's world falls apart. Her father has been murdered the suspect in none other than them an who broke her heart, Flash. But some things don't add up. Can they find who did kill her father, before Flash is given the death penalty?

I've given this book a crime/thriller tag. It's only because of the fact that some things are not clear immediately and some things are. Some things were still unresolved and I was left feeling a big fat why?? Not why was Elise's father murdered, but why did the assistant director of the FBI here, do what she did?? That was never resolved.

Now this is billed as book one in the series, and there is a snippet to book two at the end of this one. Maybe that particular why will be resolved a during future books.

It's relatively well written, from both Elise and Flash's point of view. There is some violence, when Elise gets kidnapped and the resulting rescue, and it has some explicit scenes.

But.

Something about this book just didn't work for me. *insert wailing* and I don't know what! Maybe it was because so much was laid out for you right from the start? I dunno. I can't put my finger on it and that really frustrates me!!

I liked the supporting cast of characters, though, and I would like to follow any future books that become available. They are intriguing. I wonder if they are all gonna be the reunited with lost love theme though.

Because of that big fat why,

Elise Dalton's heart recently shattered when her father has been murdered, and the man that she never stopped loving is being accused of the heinous act. It didn't matter that he cut himself out of her life years ago, she never truly got over him. But she does know that it's the choices that he's made the paved away for a path of destruction he's created of his life, isn't helping any of this situation. Of course, he's not the same man she used to know, but Elise still doesn't believe that he killed her father. Flash Arquette is bad boy motorcycle riding man who isn't denying that he's done some terrible things in his life, but he sure wouldn't murder Elise's father. Not that he cares who thinks he did, except for Elise, the girl he never quite got out of his head. Unfortunately, he signed a contract which makes it almost impossible to prove his innocence, so his only help is for Elise to ferret out the truth to keep him off death row. This book was heart racing exciting, and I couldn't turn the pages quickly enough! Fortunately for Flash, there was so much suspense surrounding who dun it, that I didn't spend my all of my time wanting to nut punch him for some of his choices. The twists and turns, plus the betrayals from every direction, had me chanting loud f-bombs, along with other very colorful metaphors throughout the whole book. Marissa Dobson has a talented writing style that instantly drew me in, and kept glued to the edge of my seat. I cannot wait to read more by this awesomely exciting author, so I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Different Sides...of the law. That is what it seems. Flash, Elise' love from high school has been accused of murdering her father. She takes time from the FBI to come home. However, it doesn't take long to learn he was nowhere near the crime. After their years apart, she still had feelings for him. Her father had always hated him and tried to keep them apart. Now what?

There are turns and twists and questioned loyalties galore in this book one of a new series, Phantom Security. Flash's brother runs a successful security agency and even works with the FBI and other government agencies. With his brother's innocence in jeopardy, he brings his team and their expertise into the case.

Just when you think all is well, you'll need to rethink that. When the loyalties of her superiors are called into question, an offer of another job on the table, will she live long enough to go back to either one? If Flash can get out from under his legal trouble, can he protect the women he loves? Is there any chance for them?

I'm ready for the series to continue. This is a recommend from me

Different Sides was a nail-biting, edge of seat kind of love story. Marissa Dobson did an exceptional job writing this book. The lost love that Elise Dalton and Flash Arquette have for each other from high school to adulthood is powerful. I was cheering them on throughout the whole book while Lewis was trying to stand in their way. The way the character's ended up being there for each other was phenomenal.

Elise Dalton's father was the chief of police he tried keeping Flash and her away from each other, because Flash was a criminal. Chief Dalton never wanted them together; he split them up after high school. Lewis was Chief Dalton's right hand man and was on the wrong side of the law. Years later he was trying to blame everything on Flash. Rocco his brother got his lawyers involved and got him released. He was blamed for killing Elise's father but she didn't believe he could do that.

This is the first book I have read from Marissa Dobson and I look forward to reading more books by her.

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!

Don’t judge a book by its cover. I feel this is true for men and women too. Flash Arquette is on the wrong side of having a past and has a town of people with pitchforks after him. He is innocent this time, but will anyone believe him?

The relationships between the characters in this story were great. At times they were a little swoon worthy and heart melting and at times frustrating. The bond between the two main characters becomes a bond that is unbreakable, no matter what. It’s the type of relationship we all want.

There are twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. There are surprises when you wouldn’t expect them, and the story really keeps you reading from start to finish.

This was a good read and one I would recommend.

Definitely a new author to add to my 'go to' list. Her writing was engaging and characters well developed, from the start the story grabbed my attention and there was no way I could put it down. I've read plenty of books that had lots of action, dream and suspense in them, but this one was different, I can't really describe how or why, it just was! In a word it was addictive. It was emotional and gritty and even though you knew who the bad guys were and some of the twists were foreseeable it still had me on edge.

Elise was strong and determined and knew her own mind which was refreshing, and Flash was our loveable bad boy alpha turned hero. There are so many fantastic supporting characters in this book and I only hope the author has some great stories lined up for them.

Elise Dalton is an FBI agent, but she has come home because her father has been murdered. What she is finding hard to believe is who the police say killed him.
Flash Arquette is a bad boy biker and Elise's first love. He may be on the other side of the law from her but he would never hurt her by killing her father.
There is a lot more going on in their home town than they know. The FBI also have suspicions about what is happening, but who is involved.
An emotional and fast paced romantic suspense. We find out who the villain is pretty quick but they have to prove it.
A thoroughly enjoyable read.

This is the first time I have read any of this authors work, and I look forward to reading more. Elise and Flash were high-school sweethearts, until her Father separated them. Now years later Flash is back in Elise’s life. No spoilers from me, give this book a chance for yourself, you will not be disappointed!
This is an action packed storyline, with suspense, romance, and is a rollercoaster journey which had me intrigued throughout.

This was such a great story! I really love when action and romance meet, I think it's such a great mix. Elise and Flash were such different people, but they worked so well together. They had such a great relationship and I love that their love lasted for so long! I also love that no matter what people thought they were there for each other. Elise's dad was such a tough man, but they didn't care. I loved every minute and can't wait for the next Phantom Security book!

I can't say I enjoyed this read, I like a murder mystery and finding out who killed said person but events leading up to the how, who and why was not exciting or made me interested when you do find out.

I did like the concept of the couple Elise and Flash being on different sides of the law I just didn't find this story interesting, unfortunately.
