Sorry, not sorry.

This is the very first time I've given a 1 star rating. I could NOT get past the grammatical wording. The first couple of pages are written as if a young child composed it. Then all of a sudden for a few paragraphs it gets so much better, but then...WHAM... It's back to the...she had, we had, they had, he had..HAD HAD HAD.. OMG. The HAD'S were totally unnecessary. To the point they were extremely distracting. I'm sorry but I couldn't keep reading this book. I only read the first few pages which seemed to progress rather quickly.

This author isn’t black but pretends to be. Her description of black female leads make it very clear that she is not a black woman. At least let people know you are a white author so we can be prepared for a white womans perspective on black women. It’s so sad because she takes so much away from the FMC. I couldn’t get past the first few chapters. Collaborate with black women and then give then credit for their work. This is highly misleading.

“Loving the slight scent of urine on him”. Wtf! That is just gross.

This book is getting returned! This is a real line from this book.

Plus, the narrator is awful.

What a story on relationships!

Patrick Copeland and Carrie Maitland’s one night stand resulted in an unplanned pregnancy and a marriage of convenience. Carrie was propelled into a world of high society she knew nothing about. Being a woman raised by a working mother after the death of her husband, in a working class neighborhood, she was a rare breath of fresh air for the stuck up snooty society people. She did not bite her tongue and was honest about everything. What was such a surprise about this story is that Carrie and Patrick had a better marriage than his parents William and Linda. William was an habitual philanderer that bit off more than he could chew with his last dalliance. Linda was too used to that since their marriage was a traditional arranged one, as was the custom among high society.  His repentance with the last affair made him realize that his marriage was more important to him than allowing his little head lead him around by his libido. Tired of being the perfect Stepford wife, with Carrie’s guidance and influence, Linda got her act together and she in turn persuaded William to get his act together as well.

Katie wrote a story about how two people faced with uncertain circumstances can be the best thing to ever happen to them. How these circumstances can result in their falling helplessly in love with each other. It also shows how a middle class working woman has to adjust her life style after marrying into a rich family. No matter how long a man and woman have been married, there is always room to revitalize their love life, which Williams and Linda did with abandon and renewed their love for each other. They wanted what they saw Patrick and Carrie had, and with the birth of their son, Brent Patrick Copeland, it made not only their family even stronger but the marriage of William and Linda stronger as well.

This was a beautiful story about the trials and tribulations of married life and how marriage can evolve into something better. It was an enjoyable read

2.75 stars. This is the first of a couple of this author's books that I've decided to read as respites from the angst laden and drama filled stories I've been reading. My way of closing my emotional roller coaster for repairs :) This book was short, lighthearted with a 0% likely hood of occurrence-a fallacy. Patrick Copeland has been "sowing wild oats" and his parents want him to settle down and marry his longtime girlfriend, Sophia McBride, or be disinherited. Patrick, conveniences his father, William, to give him a month or two more to live on the wild side. The next night, Patrick meets Carrie Maitland and gives her a ride home where they have a night of reckless unprotected sex. She becomes pregnant and Patrick marries Carrie and they ultimately fall madly in love and it appears they will live happily ever after. Meanwhile, Sophia and William start 'banging', Sophia attempts suicide because she so in love with William. In the end, Sophia moves to Europe, Patrick's parents, William and Linda, reconcile, fall in love, turn the CEO position over to Patrice and travel around the world.

"Patrick" by Katie Dowe was a pleasant surprise. This is the first book I've read by this author and I found myself throughly entertained from start to finish. I'm new to the BWWM genre (I actually had to look up what it stood for) and honestly, I just love a great love story regardless of the color, size, sex of the characters. This one was no exception. The writing was great and the characters sucked me in right away. The subplot with the secondary characters was quite the page turner as well. I will defineately be added additional books from this series and I would encourage anyone looking for a fun, quick read to do the same.
Happy Reading...enjoy!

I've had this book for a while

I guess I initially thought this book was a bbw or big beautiful women book at least when I got it. But if your like me and just glance at it then this is a book that stands for black woman white male. There are actually two books here. Both with women who are smart and strong and happen to fall in love with their babies fathers. Patrick is super rich but had never felt the passion he had felt with her. Dani loves her job and Duke just happens to be a client. In both books the women find themselves pregnant and trying to maintain the control they have in their lives. Both great books.

What’s with the double verbs in this book?

The story was a good story, albeit a bit disjointed at times. For instance, a character would be with another character while reminiscing about another character as if they were actually having the conversation right then. Maybe italicize those parts to let the reader know that we’re about to do some time traveling or something. Though that wasn’t as bad as the double verb usage! The OVERUSE of “had had” drove me up the freaking wall! Please don’t do that, like ever again. It sounds ignorant. Had it not been for these two areas (and there were a few other grammar quirks) I would have rated this at least one star higher.

Great

Well alright this story was very enjoyable. I'm happy I decided to read it loved the characters. I liked how Carrie didn't allow anyone to walk over her she had a mouth on her and spoke her mind and I think that's one of the things Patrick and his mom Linda appreciated about her too. Of course there's always a bit of drama or someone that make you want to slap at times too and then things that make you LOL anyways hope you enjoy this book and the bonus read as much as I did. Now on to the next.

Interesting

So Patrick met his match when he hooked up with Carrie. What started out as a 1 night stand turned into a marriage of convenience. Interesting story line, I didn’t like it that Patrick’s father ended up having a full blown affair with Patrick’s ex. He acted like he was addicted to her. Then when he was supposed to end it, he still had to have one for the road. SMH, I feel that Patrick’s father got off easy from his wife. All in all it was a good story line. I read it in one setting

I loved the playfulness, sexiness and power dynamics between Patrick and Carrie. Carrie presented herself as a confident and intelligent woman despite her humble upbringing. She embodied grace and class while being true to self.

However I was very disappointed with the William/Linda storyline. They were in such a contrast to Patrick and Carrie where William wasn’t held accountable for his actions while Linda too easily forgiving. I would have rated it a 5 except for this reason. I would have loved for Linda to find her independence before allowing William back in her life.

Enjoyed reading

Patrick and Carrie are a fun couple. She is different then the women he was use to. She brings a bit of sass to his family. They have a one night stand that leads to an unplanned pregnancy. Patrick insists on marriage little does he know that he is bringing home a firebrand. She shakes him up and his parents as they deal with issues straining their long term marriage. Good read.

Pretty nice and quick read.

Patrick and Carrie have one of those love stories you dont hear of often but wish you did or at least had the chance to experience. It started off as an unorthodox relationship but turned into something so beautiful. I really loved that carrie remained herself and didnt lose herself in her new surroundings. Her personality ended being a blessing in disguise...good book!

😊

Well well,well......Patrick & Carrie had me cracking up from starboard to stern....lol drama, one liners, infidelity and a "Change is Gonna Come." I usually toss novels that introduce stranger sex hot & heavy on the first few pages but with this one something told me to keep with it and I'm glad I did. It's longer than necessary and there are too managed scenes but overall I loved this novel.

Excellent Read!

I really enjoyed reading this book and the chemistry between the main characters! I loved how Patrick and Carrie acted as if they could just walk away from each other, but yet they couldn't keep their hands off of each other. Patrick's dad was scandalous for what he did! I think this is a book everyone will enjoy reading! I definitely recommend reading this book!

Patrick and Carrie

Within the first chapter I thought Patrick had nerve. Here's why... he stopped Brad from being a toad at the club when he touched Carrie's breast. But when he gave her a ride home because her car failed, at the first opportunity he was in her bed. It was supposed to be a one night stand.

I'm happy that it all worked out and the story was steamy. I had to cross my legs a few times. It wasn't graphic, but it was my kind of pleasure - lol.

Awesome

I like Patrick, even though I felt like he wad not as mature for the age portrayed.

The second bony book is my absolute favorite!

Danielle is a strong career oriented woman who also wants up have a family, Duke has been a good friend to Dani for a long time and offers to give her the child she wants. Very entertaining, I recommended as a good read.

I downloaded the rest of the series

I sincerely love this authors writing style. I stumbled across this treasure while searching for a book to get lost in. I am excited that I have found a series to get lost in as well as another author to follow. A sincerely well crafted book. Bravo

Okay!

I started to read this series out of order, so I am a little off. I say this because I am not understanding why Patrick's fathers affair took up so much of the story line. I do understand that once it was introduced it needed to be followed up, but so much. The story did wrap up nicely.

I have to say that I really enjoyed Carrie Maitland and Patrick Copeland story. Carrie is working as a waitress and a one night stand with Patrick leads to an unexpected pregnancy, marriage and true love. The other characters brought some drama of their own to the story and I really enjoyed it. This is my first time reading this author, but it won't be the last. Good writing.

I've read marriages of convenience novels before, but this one was something to grab the attention!! Seeing the love that developed between Patrick and Carrie and how their love made something wonderful from nothing and fixed the broken pieces of their family, is amazing!! I can't wait to read what the next chapter has in store!!

Could have been better

Though I appreciate the freebies, the prime book review should come right after the prime book & not after the freebies!
I enjoyed Patrick & Carrie's story and, I look forward to future friends.
Again, an issue with editing,,, can "AutoCorrext" be at the bottom of this?

Loved it

Duke and Danielle are friends and clients. Their relationship is slow build but the fire between them is molten hot. Duke and Danielle make real life choices that make you saw 'awww' and 'what were you thinking'. This is an awesome story with just a little sports thrown in.
