Welp didn't expect that! Now I really wonder where this is going to go. I also can't believe Mitsuba's storyline was that short?? Like please tell me we're going to get more....
This was another great volume but not as funny or endearing as the third one. For me there was a bit too much fish emphasis!! (You’ll see what I mean when you read it) which is fine in small doses but a couple of chapters were dedicated to this :/
Elsewhere Hanako-Kun reveals he had a brother…and I know we’ll be seeing lots more from him throughout the series *hides*
And then Mitsuba is introduced! I remember his storyline was much more pronounced in the anime but it almost seems like very few pages are spent on this in the manga :( his story is incredibly sad and kind of depressing :’( perhaps why they didn’t dedicate too much of this volume coveting his story?
It continues to get better and better! It takes me so long to read a volume in this series because the art is just AMAZING!! We have some more things revealed to us about Hanako-Kun. It got a little dark at the end. On to the next one!!
This series is always a hard one to rate. I love the art and the characters, but sometimes I feel like I have to preface it by saying, “You really gotta let the story grow on you as it builds over multiple chapters.” And some readers may not want to let their investment in the story build over time.
if i had a dollar for every time an emo teenager with side swept bangs and interest in art got mutilated by an evil spirit in animanga i would have two dollars which isn't a lot but it's funny that it's happened twice
4/5 Stars: ‘Toilet-bound Hanako-kun (Vol.4)’ by AidaIro. → Age Range: Young Adult. → Genre: Fantasy, Supernatural Horror. → Book Type: Manga.

In-depth Rating: → Plot: ★★★★ → Character Development: ★★★★ → Setting: ★★★★ → Entertainment Level: ★★★★★ → Writing: ★★★★ → Art (If Applicable): ★★★★★
General Comments: Toilet-bound Hanako-kin is translated by Square Enix and Co; story by Iro and illustrated by Aida. This is Volume 4. Reviewing Manga is complicated; reviewing each volume - individually- does not reflect the overall enjoyment of the series. As such, the star-rating should be utilised as a guideline only. If anything, you should pick up Toilet-bound Hanako-kun. The intent of this work is to recall Japanese Tales from Folklore and Mythology, using the contrasting genres of horror and comedy. See Volume 1 for a more personal review.
Time Read: Two Days. → Audiobook: No. → Audiobook Narrator: -
Trigger Warnings: → Exploitation (Phobia, Manipulation and Coercion). → Ghosts. → Death (Suicide and Murder). → Sexual Humour. → Violence (Weaponry, Blood and Gore).
Loved the extra time spent with Kou in this volume. Mitsuba was super cute and obnoxious, so I get the fan love. However, I totally disagree with the reviews that say this volume features fish too prominently. THE FISH PARTS WERE SO GOOD.
lowkey I’m kinda rereading cause I feel like i got pass this part 3 years ago, but why is Tsukasa a lot more evil than I remember??? And Kou and Mitsuba :’) I love them sm
Tis was so cool. I love this volume more then I did with the episode. I love how nicely it picks up from the last volume and I love the mermaid mystery of this story. Great art and I love the plot as well. I am excited to read more!!!
Hanako-kun pertama yang saya beri 4 bintang!!! Semua berkat Mitsubaaaaaa!!! Huhuhuhuhuuuuuu my little strawberry shortcake Mitsubaaaaaa!!! Manasin mesinnya kelamaan, nih :p
Pokoknya, saya jadi semakin dan semakin jatuh cinta sama Kou (Minamoto Adik) berkat Mitsuba! Aaaaaahhh anakku Kou pasti gedenya bakal jadi cowok super keren dan super baik hati! Cowok idaman semua orang (atau saya doang :p)
Gegara jilid ini, si Gie sampai bela-belain ngobrak-abrik internet buat mencari tahu soal Mitsuba (dan Kou, tentu saja) dan dapatlah berbagai spoiler tentang jilid-jilid depan. Pokoknya saya menuntut Mitsuba mendapat "happy ending"!! Saya berharap Kou bisa ketemu Mitsuba lagi, ngobrol bareng lagi, dan jadi teman!!
Saya akan berjuang menerjemahkan seri ini demi Kou dan Mitsuba!! Uwooooorghhh!!
Holy fuck, HOLY FUCK, this volume was DARK! Holy shit, I was NOT prepared for where this volume was going and it was DISTURBING.
Tsukasa's behavior is terrifying, reminds me of those kids who were too curious for their own good and never had someone to rein them in. And his manipulation and mutilation of Mistuba was frightening, especially for a child! I'm so curious to learn more about him, but given how slowly this series doles out backstory, I know I'll be waiting awhile for that.
It was cool getting to see Nene having to make decisions on her own AND giving Minamoto the spotlight for awhile. The Mitsuba chapters, specifically the last one, was so devastating and I'm curious to see how Minamoto grows from it.
That's about all I want to say for now. This was another great volume in a great series that's gonna keep me guessing each volume and I'm here for it!
Ah, yes, nothing like reading a book that makes you cry an hour before you have to teach. At least I have examples of how successful folkloric horror can be created.
Poor Mitsuba. Amane didn't kill his brother hard enough.
this series has just a special place in my heart and the mitsuba chapters had me rolling. i cared for him so much even though he only was first introduced in this book. and the relationship he had with kou. love it.
The Mitsuba storyline in the anime was very sweet, so I was surprised at how short it was in this. On the other hand the Little Mermaid storyline seemed to go on forever…
As much as I love TBHK, the only aspect I don’t like is that of Mitsuba, but my dislike for a character doesn’t change how I feel about the series as a whole because it shouldn’t be necessary to love all characters to love a series.
I understand where MistuKou shippers come from, but I could never. I have never been more glad to know that in a shounen manga, there will never be a canon gay pairing. I love the idea of bi Kou, but I hate Mitsuba sooooo badly. But I do think that he serves a purpose in helping Kou grow and learn.
This is by far my favorite volume, I think it gave us important details and the story line felt different than the others , and I think it's beautiful way of setting for the rest of the manga. And we finally know more about Hanako which is odd because his name is in the title and we know about him so little. I know that is because he is mysterious and to build anticipation.
