Dari volume pertamanya, sudah terlihat jelas bahwa levelnya (pacing + penokohan + misteri + daya tahan kipas angin) ada di atas mayoritas cerita survival sejenis.

Sudah terbit sampai tamat di volume 8, jadi saya perbarui lagi ulasan ini.
Akhir ceritanya memuaskan dan rapi. Saya tidak heran, karena Haro Aso sudah lebih dulu menyelesaikan seri pendahulunya (Alice on Border Land) secara gemilang. Border Road lebih pendek dan ringkas daripada Border Land, tapi kekuatan penokohan dan temanya kurang lebih sama.
Tokoh utamanya gadis remaja bernama Alice, tokoh pendukung yang paling sentral juga cewek, dan tokoh antagonis paling berkesan buat saya adalah sepasang kakak-beradik cewek—hal ini membuat nuansa Border Road lebih unik dibanding cerita-cerita laga kebanyakan. Namun, baik itu cowok atau cewek maupun tua atau muda, tokoh-tokoh ciptaan Haro Aso memang selalu bisa meninggalkan kesan tersendiri. Jumlah maupun variasinya pun tergolong pas untuk komik survival sepanjang 8 volume.
Alice sendiri tipe heroine yang ideal. Ideal di sini bukan berarti ‘diidealkan’—saya suka Alice yang tangguh, cerdas, dan baik hati, tapi semua aksi dan pemikirannya masih dalam taraf realistis. Walau diplot sebagai ‘jagoan’, saya selalu merasa Alice tetap anak SMA biasa dengan segala keterbatasannya. Alih-alih tokoh super badass dari antah berantah, saya bisa membayangkan orang seperti Alice di dunia nyata—tipe yang bisa membuat pembaca anak atau remaja terpikir, “Ah saya juga ingin seperti Alice, yang berani untuk berbuat baik.”
Pola alur Border Road cukup sederhana: ada sekumpulan orang yang tersesat di dunia aneh dan memutuskan jalan bersama, lalu konflik internal terjadi dan mereka terpecah. Mungkin tidak seseru seri pendahulunya (yang banyak menampilkan berbagai game hidup atau mati di sepanjang ceritanya), tapi saya juga suka pendekatan lebih gamblang seperti ini yang melibatkan lebih sedikit karakter dan tidak perlu banyak ‘aturan main’ yang kadang ruwet.
Dengan alur relatif sederhana seperti ini pun, tensi psikologisnya tetap kuat, pace-nya tak terlalu cepat maupun terlalu lambat, dan adegan aksinya digambarkan dengan begitu bagus. Ada dua adegan ‘duel’ yang eksekusinya mengagumkan; yang pertama, duel fisik (yang akhirnya diselesaikan dengan siasat psikologis) satu lawan satu dalam bangunan remang-remang. Yang kedua, duel antar sniper berpengalaman di tengah hutan. Ada pengetahuan teknis, adu taktik dan muslihat psikologis, serta atmosfer ketegangan yang begitu mencekik dan membuat pembaca bisa ikut menahan napas sepanjang konfrontasi.
Selain momen kerasnya, banyak pula momen 'tenang tapi menghanyutkan' yang terselip melalui dialog para karakternya saat mereka berupaya memaknai dunia di sekitar mereka dan diri sendiri. Mungkin salah satu yang paling berkesan buat saya pribadi adalah kata-kata Moro, tokoh yang lama sendirian dan akhirnya terlalu terbiasa dengan kesendirian itu....
Di volume-volume terakhir, tirai misteri pun mulai disibak satu-persatu dengan twist yang cukup mengagetkan, tapi tidak mengada-ada maupun terlampau absurd. Endingnya….
Konfrontasi terakhir di komik ini pun menjadi adegan klimaks yang bagus antara “orang yang ada di cahaya dan selalu berupaya memberi cahaya ke orang lain” dengan “orang berpikiran negatif yang terjebak dalam kegelapan”.
(*satu hal yang perlu saya tekankan berkali-kali buat yang ingin mencoba seri ini: tidak harus terlebih dulu baca seri sebelumya yang Border Land. Ada sedikit kaitan yang baru terkuak di volume akhir [dan akan jadi sedikit spoiler untuk ending seri pendahulunya], tapi pada dasarnya ini kisah yang bisa dianggap berdiri sendiri sepenuhnya).

Not what I expected from a spin off of Alice in borderland. Honestly kinda bored and pretty disappointed. Hoping the story picks up more in future volumes because this wasn't it.

I have to be honest. This just doesnt hit the same way that the original series did. Its a bit disappointing. Things feel so slow compared to the fast pace and action of the other series. Nor is any of the things hapenning feel that creative or suprising. I will keep reading because I hope it picks up.

Tadinya mau nunda baca karena belum dapet prekuelnya, tapi berhubung komiknya ga dapet-dapet, akhirnya yang ini dibaca duluan (^_^;)
Ceritanya sat-set-sat-set penuh aksi, kekerasan, dan bikin kepikir: "ini kenapa sih orang-orang kok ga bisa ambil jalan damai?" (*꒦ິ꒳꒦ີ) Tapi di mana pun, di saat sekumpulan orang yang punya pemikiran dan tujuan sendiri-sendiri harus bekerja sama, pasti muncul ketidakdamaian, besar atau kecil. Keinget pas kemping pramuka, keributan soal sop sayur dan nasi gosong, serta persediaan air minum (╥﹏╥) 'Persahabatan' kami tidak pernah sama lagi setelah acara kemping itu usai...
Untunglah ndak sampe bunuh-bunuhan! o(≧▽≦)o Ndak kayak komik ini, yang untungnya fiktif, yang tujuannya survival sehingga yang mengganggu atau yang ngga setuju terancam disingkirkan. Seru bak-bik-buk saling gebuk dari awal sampai akhir~

Zuallererst möchte ich mich für das Rezensionsexemplar bedanken, welches mir vom Carlsen Verlag bereitgestellt wurde. Dieser Fakt beeinflusst aber in keiner Weise meine persönliche Meinung zu diesem Buch. Der Post enthält Werbung und die Rechte liegen beim Verlag.
Natürlich ist dies nur meine persönliche Meinung und nur weil ich diesem Buch diese Bewertung zukommen lassen, heißt es nicht, dass es auf jeden anderen zutrifft.
Ich habe mich riesig gefreut als ich gesehen habe, dass Carlsen Alice on Border Road im Doppelband rausbringt. In diesem Doppelband sind dann sozusagen Volume 1 und 2 drin und das Buch ist somit dicker. Ich liebe Manga Doppelband Ausgaben weil man sie so toll an einem Stück lesen kann und ich nicht mittendrin mir den nächsten Band holen muss.
Wer mich kennt weiß, wie sehr ich Alice in Borderland liebe. Selbstverständlich durfte dann auch dieser Band bei mir einziehen und ich habe mich sehr auf diese beiden Volumes gefreut.
Ich habe meine Lesezeit genossen und fand es toll wieder in der Welt zu sein. Der Start dieser Geschichte ist ein bisschen anders als die Hauptgeschichte und ich bin gespannt, in welche Richtung sich die Story entwickeln wird.
Die Charaktere die ich bisher kennengelernt habe sind interessant und ich glaube sehr, dass da noch einige interessante dunkle Geheimnisse enthüllt werden könnten. Es gab auch einige sehr coole Plottwist und auch einige Charakterentwicklungen, die sehr vielversprechend sind.
Leider ist mir eine Sache ein bisschen sauer aufgestoßen. Der Band ist ab 16+ und das hat auch definitiv seinen Grund. Se*uelle Übergriffe und auch se*uelle Belästigung gegenüber den weiblichen Charakteren, die zum Teil minderjährig sind ist leider ein sehr präsentes Thema in diesem Buch. Ich bin gespannt, wie in den zukünftigen Teilen damit umgegangen wird aber wollte es nicht unterwähnt lassen, da ich glaube, das nicht jede Person mit diesen Thema auf „einfache“ Weise umgehen kann.

the first thing i noticed about this series is that although Haro Aso is the author of the story, he is not the artist behind the panels - unlike Alice in Borderland, where he is the author and the artist both.
i will say that the art has struck me as less impressive than the original series, but so far the story has me hooked. we’re in “borderland”, perhaps before it become borderland? these characters found themselves in this land with a face card in their pocket, and together they have all 12. when the group decides to split up, some remaining where they are and some setting out to explore japan, a murder occurs.
it’s very confusing to me to try and predict how this story will tie in with the original series. could this be the joker origin story?

I wanted to like this after I read and loved Alice in Borderland, but I didn't like it at all. The characters are boring and tropey, with no depth to them. Only one character really gets any kind of significant personal growth. The characters are one of the best thing about the first series, which makes this even more disappointing.
The plot also lacks depth and falls into several cliches that had me rolling my eyes.
The art is great, but it can't make up for uninteresting characters and a bad plot.

A “spiritual” sequel to the Alice in Borderlands series.
Read via fan translations, so the official English may prove to be a better read, if not a more accurate one.
As many of the translations were quite literal word for word vs getting the english phrasing and a more figurative approach.. if that makes sense.
Anyway, I enjoyed the opening chapters quite a bit and am looking forward to learning more about this “borderlands” or “limbo” or whatever the place is in your own head cannon, as well as the new 12 people, who all showed up with a face card.

Siento que muchas personas fans de Alice in Borderland no le va a gustar mucho esta historia ya que aquí no hay juegos, pero del cap 20 para adelante me mantuvo bien enganchada y me encantó la historia, si hubiera una tercera temporada de aib en Netflix me gustaría que adaptarán este manga aunque lo veo muy poco probable

Tras leer Alice un Borderland necesitaba seguiré con algo parecido y este tomo empieza igual que el otro manga, aunque más rápido. Aún así es introductorio y no ha pasado aún nada importante, por lo que seguiré leyendo

ภาคต่อของ Alice in Borderland ใช้ตัวละครขุดใหม่ต้แนวคิดเดิม แต่ปรับเปลี่ยนการดำเนินเรื่องไม่ให้ซ้ำแบบเดิม บางคนอาจไม่ขอบเพราะมันไม่ได้ใช้ “เกม” ในการดำเนินเรื่อง แต่ก็เข้าใจว่าผู้เขียนคงไม่ต้องการให้มันซ้ำกับภาค borderland ถือว่าสนุกและมีบุ้นพอตั ถึงจะไม่เท่าภาคแรกก็ตาม

Nice, but the whole plot feels ridiculous from time to time.

Habiéndome hypeado como lo hice con Alice in Borderland, era cuestión de tiempo antes de que arrancara con Alice on Border Road, un spin off del manga. En este caso, la situación es totalmente distinta a la presentada en la serie original.
La historia comienza con un grupo de personas que se ha visto transportada a Borderland pero, a diferencia de la serie principal, cada uno despierta llevando una carta consigo, sea J, Q o K. Es así que pronto conocemos a Alice, la reina de corazones. Ninguno de ellos sabe cómo llegó allí, solo parecen tener algo en común: han desaparecido de Tokyo para despertarse en Kyoto.
Las peleas no tardan en estallar. ¿Matarse unos a otros para recolectar todas las cartas? ¿Intentar llegar a Tokyo en busca de respuestas? Y la cosa no tarda en escalar, si algo nos deja en claro Alice on Border Road es que uno no está seguro, no puede confiar en nadie.
Si bien es una propuesta muy distinta a la de la serie original, me resulta interesante. Los personajes tienen lo suyo, hay muchos de los que quiero saber más porque cada uno tiene su propio misterio. Voy a extrañar los capítulos de los juegos pero quiero ver qué vuelta de tuerca le van a dar a esta historia.

To be honest, I am a little hesitant to start Alice in Border Road thinking that it would be a waste of time reading a manga with just genderbent characters from Alice in Borderland. Thank the heavens, the brainrot is too strong, it gave me the will to move forward.
Compared to Alice in Borderland, Alice in Border Road's first volume is a lot tamer than the former's pilot volume. If you have read Alice in Borderland, you will be able to spot some striking similarities from the series. I think this manga's charm is that, it is taking advantage of these said similarities and it makes it own spin to it to make it stand out.
Aside from the protagonists Arisu and Kina, the other characters introduced on this volume are fairly interesting. We were able to know a few bits about each of them, enough for us to paint a primary suspect to the incident that occurred in the middle part of the volume.
On the other hand, I wish it would pick up its pace soon as I could feel my interest dwindle down due to the lack of action from this volume.

Aside from the protagonists Arisu and Kina, the other characters introduced on this volume are fairly interesting. We were able to know a few bits about each of them, enough for us to paint a primary suspect to the incident that occurred in the middle part of the volume.
On the other hand, I wish it would pick up its pace soon as I could feel my interest dwindle down due to the lack of action from this volume.

Mmm...no se realmente que pensar de este manga, tenia las expectativas extremadamente altas despues de leer Alice in borderland, pero siento que no le llega ni a los talones a lo que fue Alice in borderland.
Lo unico que me mantuvo metida en la lectura fue le saber como habian llegado al "Borderland-Borderroad" porque todo es bien pinche extraño y ver las cartas y pensar que entiendes es una tonteria because no sirve de nada.
Los personajes son interesantes y eso es lo que le suma puntitos al manga.
El diseño de Alice me gusta bastante, sobretodo porque es super común y corriente pero a medida que avanza la historia es más perrisima que nunca, aunque igual tenia sus momentos muy cuestionables [WTF CON ESE BESO]
Kuki es un personaje que me causa mucho asco y repulsión de principio a fin, que personaje más asqueroso y mierda que he leído.
Al menos los fondos del manga lucían bien... aunque no entendiera ni la mitad de lo que pasaba.
Pudo ser un mejor manga, pero le tuvo miedo al exito

I gave this a chance after finishing the original manga series. On the one hand, it was nice to revisit the world of Imawa no Kuni again. On the other hand, the story initially seemed to drag at certain moments. It finally got interesting around Volume 6 (out of 8 volumes). There were too many characters in too short of a time to make an impact on the reader or to be fleshed out properly. Some connections to the original series seemed quite forced, and the ending was super underwhelming. In the end, I suppose it's for the better that it's only eight volumes.

Setelah Alice on Borderland tamat, langsung lanjut Alice on Border Road. Awalnya kirain ini lanjutannya, tapi ternyata bukan, dan tokohnya juga (akhirnya) cewek (sesuai namanya) :D
Di sini gambarnya lebih berasa cewek, sementara di Alice in Borderland berasa cowok. Mungkin ganti suasana. Pembunuhannya juga tidak sesadis cerita yang pertama, tapi misterinya masih lumayan sama, dan karena uda baca karyanya sebelumnya, jadi nebak2 kalau ini mungkin bakal sama :D

Nice start, there is the vibe of old Alice in Borderland, just it feels a bit different. There are cards and this strange world, but I can feel from now this is not going be alike Borderland, liking Borderroad and what it has to offer so far
