Unbelievable characters made weaker a story that hadn't born strong to begin with. Weak to the point that I could see every trick the author used in the plot to make the line go forward. The relationship between the hero and heroine was non-existent as the world-building.
I'm sure that there are fans who'll love this book. To me was flat as a vampire's heartbeat and interesting as a zombie.
Dr. Carly Chambers is on her way home from her night shift job as an ER doctor when she is kidnapped by two men that need her help. They take her to their friend that has been shot to remove the bullet and stitch him up. Her patient turns out to be Tony Pantera, a were-cat. Tony lost one human lover to shifter wars so he doesn't want to be attracted to Carly but he can't help the way he feels. When another group of shifters that are out to get Tony and his friends start instigating a war, Carly is drawn into the shifter world with Tony her only way out.
I really liked Carly. She was a strong heroine that stood up for herself and didn't let others intimidate her. She is intelligent, confident and doesn't blindly follow a man just because he's attractive. I didn't feel like I got to know Tony as well but he seemed very confident, trustworthy, commanding and a good friend. He didn't want to be an Alpha but he basically was one for the packless shifters in his area. He held them together loosely but knew they would have his back in a pinch.
The 'bad guy/s' weren't so cut and dry. I don't want to spoil anything but the forces against Tony weren't always cut and dry. We don't learn all the reasons as to why the other shifters feel the need to take Tony out but it's interesting anyway. I didn't really enjoy the parts of the story from the bad guys perspective. I would have rather have spent that time with Tony, Micah or Carly. It's not just this book, its pretty much all books. Reading from the bad guy's perspective makes me feel like I'm reading little spoilers about the ending before I get there and I would rather see the story unfold as the hero and heroine do.
This is the first book in the Lusting Wild series. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next in the series.
Bad heterosexual paranormal romance. Feisty female ER doctor falls for the hot jaguar shifter she is kidnapped and ordered to treat. Neither appeared to have much personality other than lusting for one another. That was actually probably the least offensive part of the story.
The villains didn't make sense. Their motivations were not at all clear beyond wanting to kill a couple of the good guys, and instead of just trying to kill them, they must lure them into a trap by kidnapping the women they know. There is not one, but two, refrigerator women in this story, innocents killed casually off the page just to give motivation to the male characters. I also wasn't crazy about the female antagonist being constantly referred to as a Bitch, because she was the highest ranking female in a pack. Yes, female dogs are called bitches. But these characters aren't dogs, and the constant repetition of the word Bitch every time she was on the page was pretty heavy-handed, as if the author wanted to make sure we realized we shouldn't like her. The writing was not the worst I've seen, but was definitely awkward in places. I also often had trouble telling whose point of view a scene was written from, which jerked me out of the story every time. Characters are mentioned who were never introduced, and yet we're apparently supposed to know who they are. It's also amazingly inconsistent how badly the main characters can be hurt and survive, and yet some of the extras die almost instantly, even though in the beginning of the story the shifters explain to the doctor that they're nearly impossible to kill.
There are much better books than this out there, and I suggest you read them instead of this one.
Shifter story set in New Orleans. A human doctor is sucked into the world of the supernatural when she is kidnapped to help and injured shifter. Good read-once with lots of action. Some very bad things happen to good people.
My biggest complaint is a technical one - for predators these guys have a lot of trouble telling when someone is dead! Big fight scenes, victors announce other guy is dead and walk off-only to find he wasn't...
Books are sequential, read in order.
Lusting Wild series Changing Times Changing Hearts Changing Focus
Possible spoiler below:
I've started the second book in the series [Changing Hearts] which has the villain from book 1 as the hero. I have a problem with that - Slade was callous, cold and calculating; and that was towards members of his pack. He hated humans and thought nothing of the murder of a human woman to 'make a point'. Yet in book 2 he ends up mating a human after overcoming the trauma of his childhood. Umm. I don't see it.
On the other hand, if you forget his behavior in book 1 and take it only as rendered in book 2, it's a good story.
This was an ok story. I liked it. Our main characters are Tony a Panther shifter and Carly an ER Doctor. She is kidnapped by Micah and Nolan Wolf Shifter to help Tony who had been shot with a silver bullet and it taken out because the silver was slowly poisoning him. I am a lover of paranormal romance. This was a likeable story, I just wish it was longer.
You had the meeting and the start up of a relationship with Tony and Carly. The evil bad Slade and Maggie. You had great side characters with Micah and Nolan. It was very likeable but being that is was short everything need went at a faster pace. Going at this faster pace it left a lot out like character development and more depth into the main story line.
While I liked this story I wish it had been a novel so we could have gone more in depth with the character and story line.
This was a really good read. The characters felt real and the story flowed nicely. There is quite a bit of action through out the story starting at the beginning. I loved how Tony and Micah changed for Carly to show her they weren't crazy. The feel of protectiveness from Tony, Micah, and Nolan towards Carly is outstanding. This book also makes light of hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and gives you a small picture of the devastation that was caused. If you like shifters then this book is definitely for you.
I really enjoyed this book! I wish there was more to it. It is a good first book to a series to introduce the characters. It is short and many characters were talked about that the back story wasn't explained about. I wanted to be upset when a character died but I didn't feel the connection. The love story with the main characters was great though. I did enjoyt the 2nd book a lot better!!! I do recommend the series. These shapeshifters are sexy! -DINK
I really enjoyed this! It would have been a quicker read if I would have had more reading time. The story is fun, there is quite a bit of action and, of course, plenty of sex. I'm looking forward to more by this author.
Yeah, I really, really didn't like the heroine. She may be book smart, but she really is a dumba$$ when it comes to self preservation. She may actually fall in the too stupid to live category.

Admittedly, this is the absolute first e-book that I have ever purchased and read. I wasn’t sure how I would make it through the book. Surprisingly, using my laptop and reading it sized at 130% went pretty fast. I am SO glad it was Changing Times by Marilu Mann that...
