Sensible Gwen Appleby is aghast when her foolish sister vows to pursue the notorious rake, Lord Quickthorn. To save her sister from certain ruin, she turns to her friend, the custodian of the fairy well. A simple spell, making Lord Quickthorn indifferent to her sister’s beauty, is all that’s required.
But Gwen’s friend is no longer at the well, and the new, mischievous, very male custodian agrees on one Lord Quickthorn will turn his seductive wiles on Gwen instead. To save her sister’s virtue, must Gwen sacrifice her own? Worse, will the promise of passion make her long to do so?
Barbara Monajem wrote her first story in third grade about apple tree gnomes. After dabbling in neighborhood musicals and teen melodrama, she published a middle-grade fantasy when her children were young. Now her kids are adults, and she's writing historical and paranormal romance and mystery for grownups. She lives in Georgia with an ever-shifting population of relatives, friends, and feline strays.
Rex, Lord Quickthorn is summoned home by his sister. She is a fairy and keeper of a fairy well . He had been in London and a reputation as a rake. Although he had grown tired of London and ready for a change. He makes,2 promises to his sister before she leaves and puts him in charge of the well. Being in charge of the well has lots of consequences, fairies can be tricky and wishes asking for a Boon requires payment of some type. Great story.
This was my first taste of a Barbara Monajem book and I have clearly been missing out! I thoroughly enjoyed it! Very well written, and it sucked me in from the beginning! A magical and lovely story that I could read more than once!
I enjoyed the main characters, they will entertain you until the last page. Heartwarming romance filled with a little magic, intrigue, surprising twist and of course, love.
This author creates sublime stories with humor, sex, and interesting plots. I really enjoyed the fairy aspects and the frank security of the heroine and hero. As always, the side characters are hilarious.
Although magic, paranormal, etc., is not really my thing, it is rare that I do not enjoy a book by Barbara Monajem. This was was quick whimsical and entertaining.
A lovely short romance, filled with magic and entertaining characters. I enjoyed this story, Gwen and Lord Quickthorn make an interesting journey to happily ever after.
Lord Quickthorn’s Bargain is a quick and enjoyable story about a half fairy rake who has tired of the rake’s life and is losing his magic. He returns home to temporarily take over the duty of custodian of the well for his sister (she needs a break). He has promised to behave himself, but finds it difficult when he meets Gwen Appleby, the local village liaison to the fairies. He grants her a boon and sets his condition (there is always a give and take to fairy boons). In the humorous tale that follows their pact Rex and Gwen work together to bring Gwen’s sister and her betrothed back together after a spat. The task proves to be difficult. Rex and Gwen are a great together, and Melisande is loveable and funny (she doesn’t know it). Read and find out if Rex gets his magic back and if there is a happily ever after in here somewhere.
Let me just say that I loved this book. It has romance, love, magic, fairies, will-of-the-whisps, jealousy, sacrifice, family, friends and suitors. The story takes place in a modest village. The hero, Rex, is well to do and of mixed heritage with a half sister, Polyanthus. The heroine, Gwen, is of mixed heritage and the eldest sister. The heroine has lost all but her sister, Melisande, and is trying to help Mel resolve her romantic misunderstanding. Gwen and Melisande are victims of their father and brother's irresponsible financial behavior. The townspeople, the fairies, and the will-of-the-whisps are very protective of Gwen and her place in their community. This story shows magic in all of its forms. I hope that there are other stories just like this one. Please, keep writing Ms. Monajem.
