Frankfurt im Hochsommer. Als im Stadtwald die grauenhaft zugerichteten Leichen zweier junger Männer gefunden werden, überträgt man den unbequemen Fall Robert Marthaler, einem musikliebenden Melancholiker. Die Morde machen dem bedächtigen Hauptkommissar zu schaffen, denn alle Spuren weisen auf eine Frau als Täterin hin. Und dann gerät auch Marthalers Privatleben aus den Fugen, denn seine neue Mitbewohnerin Tereza ist eine ernsthafte Versuchung für den eigenwilligen Junggesellen.

Jan Seghers, alias Matthias Altenburg, ist Schriftsteller, Kritiker und Essayist und lebt in Frankfurt am Main. Nach dem Erfolg von "Ein allzu schönes Mädchen" und "Die Braut im Schnee" folgte "Partitur des Todes", ausgezeichnet mit dem "Offenbacher Literaturpreis" sowie dem "Burgdorfer Krimipreis". "Die Akte Rosenherz" ist sein vierter Kriminalroman.

3 stars - not bad, but not exceptionally good either!

This book has been on my TBR for a very long time and I was happy that I finally picked it up for a reading challenge here on Goodreads. I enjoyed reading it and I felt well entertained, but this is a series that I might not keep on reading - it just didn't leave a lasting impression! I finished the book a while ago and while I can remember the central plot elements, there aren't many memories left.

Good, solid piece of detective story. Strong points: realistic police work, interesting plot and charakters. Weak points: cliches typical for this genre (single detective with personal tragedy in the past), action but not a lot of mystery and ending (it looks like writer lost his interest in the story in the last few pages). Summing up: I really liked it as good, entertaining read (but I hate the cover of Polish edition!). It is good to know that "Czarne" has also crime stories in their offer.

Tolles Buch.
Die ersten 38 Seiten sind sehr verwirrend, aber wenn man durchhält, wird man belohnt mit einer tollen und spannenden Geschichte.
Leider ist das Ende mies. Sorry, aber ich war mehr als enttäuscht von den letzten Seiten.

Es war schon spannend, allerdings mochte ich Marthalers Charakter nicht so gerne - er ist ein einsamer Kauz, wird viel zu schnell wütend und arbeitet zu viel alleine. Außerdem fand ich seine Beziehung zu Tereza komisch (welche 28 Jährige Frau zieht einfach so bei einem 40 jährigen ein und läuft direkt nackt in der Wohnung rum?).

Ich fand es auch schade, dass das Verbrechen gar nicht so richtig aufgeklärt wurde. Wieso hat sich der eine umgebracht?

Insgesamt ist viel passiert aber vieles nicht so richtig beantwortet worden.

Es war von der Story her wirklich gut. Was mich oft gestört hat waren die ständigen Beschreibungen von unnötigen Details, wie zum Beispiel davon, wie der Kommissar isst oder trinkt oder Hunger hat oder durstig ist. Außerdem fand ich die (für mich) unschlüssige Arbeitsweise der Beamten befremdlich. Am allermeisten hat es mich jedoch genervt, dass das Ende derart offen war. Letztlich wird irgendwie nichts wirklich befriedigend aufgeklärt.

Ik moest me echt door dit boek heen worstelen. Er zit geen tempo in, bevat veel onnodige details (die niet relevant of interessant zijn voor de lezer) en de hoofdpersoon is onsympathiek. Ik wilde hem uitlezen om te weten wie het gedaan had, maar het einde is zo anticlimactisch dat dit het eigenlijk ook niet waard was.

Ein guter Krimi mit gut geschrieben Charakteren, die jedoch einige Klischees erfüllen (zB Marthaler, der Kommissar mit persönlichen Problemen, Manon, die schöne Unbekannte, die am Ende doch (mehr oder weniger) ungestraft davonkommt ect.).
In gewisser Weise war das Ende vorhersehbar, aber in wieder anderer Hinsicht auch nicht. Viele Fragen bleiben ungeklärt, was nicht unbedingt schlecht sein muss. Bei einigen Sachen hätte ich mir jedoch trotzdem gewünscht, dass sie ein wenig genauer ausgeführt worden wären, zB was genau an dem Abend im Wald passiert ist, wie genau Plöger in die Sache involviert ist, oder eine etwas ausführlichere Ausführung der Probleme in Manons Kindheit.
Gut gefallen hat mir der psychologische Einblick in die Ermittlungsarbeiten, welche man an Marthaler gut erkennen konnte (Seine stetige Ausgelaugtheit, den Fakt, dass due Ermittlungsarbeiten und die “schrecklichen Bilder” ihn bis in sein Privatleben folgen, er quasi nie Ruhe von seinem Job hat ect.)
Alles in allem: Ein guter, jedoch kein außergewöhnlicher Krimi, aber trotzdem schön zu lesen, besonders der Anfang hat etwas Abwechslung in die Geschichte gebracht und einige Szenen waren durchaus sehr spannend und fesselnd. Das Ende (Marthaler fliegt zu Tereza nach Madrid) war, zwar ebenfalls relativ klischeehaft und vorhersehbar, dennoch irgendwie süß;)

In a sleepy wine-growing village in the Vosges, a girl of breathtaking beauty appears. She stays for a while and disappears just as mysteriously as she came. Change of scene: in Frankfurt two corpses are discovered in the city forest. It turns out that the two men were murdered with the same stabbing weapon and probably by the same person. The case is assigned to Commissioner Robert Marthaler, a loner who likes to do his own research. The investigations lead him to the trail of a girl whose beauty is described as extraordinary. Then a reporter is brutally murdered in an elegant Frankfurt hotel. His companion is a strikingly beautiful girl. This is anything but a routine case in which inspector Marthaler is constantly confronted with new puzzles and surprises. I found this book very hard to get into. I had a hard time with the author’s writing style and experienced the story as extremely vague. I did not like the characters and the storytelling was very slow (and I am totally into slow books but this was too much of a good thing). I usually enjoy murder mysteries with a lone-wolf inspector but this one was not my cup of tea. The descriptions of the surroundings were very well done and to my liking. 2,5 out of 5,0 for this one.

Ich bin hin und her gerissen... Das Buch ist toll geschrieben, die Hauptcharaktere durchweg interessant (und auf eine Serie angelegt), das Setting in FFM gelungen... ich möchte das Buch gut finden, die Grundidee würde das auch zulassen: mysteriöse, lange verschwundene junge Frau taucht im Zusammenhang mit einer brutalen Mordserie wieder auf. Aber dann gibts eben doch zu viele Negativaspekte, so dass ich dem Buch doch nur drei Sterne geben kann. Hin und wieder verliert sich Seghers in kleinen Nebengeschichten oder in der Charakterisierung und Lebensgesichte noch einer Person, natürlich gibts auch hier die fast schon zwingenden Traumsequenzen (*sigh), aber vor allem ist die Auflösung schon beim Fund der ersten Leiche klar - was der Spannung nicht eben förderlich ist. Wenn im zweiten Band diese Anfängerfehler zugunsten eines würdigen Spannungsbogen beseitigt sind, dann kann das ne richtig gute Serie werden.

Priemerná detektívka ale výborné čítanie. Na môj vskus je komisár Marthaler málo cynický, takže to nebude nikdy moja najobľúbenejšia postava, napriek tomu je sympatický a hlavne zapamätateľný, bez toho aby bol nejak výrazne narušený - je to taký prehistorický hipster, jazdí na bicykli so starým ruksakom a kupuje si čerstvé suroviny na tržnici. Sú tam obvyklé žánrové klišé (hlavný vyšetrovateš je ako inak morous, patológovia sú podivíni, šéfovia sú zadubení a ohrozujú vyšetrovanie...) ale v takej miere ktorú skôr milovníci detektívok ocenia a okrem toho sú vyvážené nezvykle neotrepaným štýlom písania, opisov, metafor. Najzaujímavejšie časti sú tie, kde sú len tak zľahka načrtnuté osudy úplne vedľajších postáv, ktoré sa v deji len tak mihnú. Detektívna zápletka miestami stráca dych (na počudovanie nezáživnejšie a pomalšie sú časti týkajúce sa vyšetrovania a keby sa preriedili, malo by to celé rýchlejší spád). Od Seghersa si ešte určite niečo kúpim.

Like I said in one of my updates: a very unusual book.
Slow-paced and in the translation the very German way of addressing one another (not 'dutzen', but 'Siezen' at work) is preserved. On the one hand I like that, because it is how things are done in Germany, where the action takes place. On the other hand it doesn't make the book easy to read.
It has been quite a while since I read (or spoke for that matter) German, so it took me a while to figure out why they were so formal.

I liked the book, apart form the notes above. It showed very thorough police work, performed by average German police men and women, with all their flaws and prejudices. These make the job of finding 'who did it and why' harder than it should have been, but gave me as a reader a very realistic view on how things are done 'for real'.

READ IN DUTCH

This was the first book I read by the German author Jan Seghers. I had seen it a few times before in the bookstores, but when I had a long train journey to make, I finally had a excuse to buy it.

I enjoyed the story. For me, it felt like I was reading a Scandinavian thriller, with a lot of room for psychology and social-cultural problems. Luckily, that's the kind of book I like to read. Unfortunately I haven't seen a lot from Jan Seghers after this one, but haven't (for reasons unknown) really looked for them either. I should really do so.

Set in Frankfurt and surrounding area. The plot is a little bit strange. Several men get killed, and there is a mysterious beautiful girl (who is a grown up woman...) who is withdrawn from the world and seems to have some issues as well. Everyone thinks she goes around killing these men, but in fact it is someone who is infatuated with her. The story moves along nicely, but at the same time the transitions from one part to the other seem often a bit unmotivated.

U detektivek jsem zvyklá na trochu jiný koncept, ale tohle nebylo vůbec špatné. Sledování vyšetřování a zaměření na psychologii postav mě prostě něčím zaujalo a bavilo....
Bylo to jiné.. Zvláštní... A mě to vážně bavilo.

Nett geschrieben, streckenweise aber etwas formelhaft vom Stil her. Obwohl die Hauptfigur des Kommissars sympathisch und interessant angelegt ist, sind viele ihrer Handlungen unglaubwürdig und entsprechen sicher nicht dem Polizeialltag. Für Frankfurter ist dafür sehr viel Lokalkolorit eingebaut.

수많은 쓰레기 여성서사 작품들 중 하나입니다. 그나마 1권 초반만 볼만하고 그 뒤로 갈수록 반전없이 지하실 밑바닥까지 뚫고 들어가는 작품 수준에 경악해버린 시리즈라고 요약 가능하겠네요. 네. 억지로 시리즈의 마지막까지 본 당신을 기다리는 것은 어이없는 결말부분 억지일 뿐입니다. 이딴 작품이 작가 이름빨로 출간과 변역이 된 게 레전드고 제발 이런 이야기는 자기 일기장에나 써주시길 부탁드리겠습니다.
