In the fourth Alice MacDonald Greer mystery, the feisty Texas lawyer finds herself in unfamiliar territory on the Scottish coast.

Alice is in Scotland to visit Gran, the mother of her late husband, Jordie. After his death, the two women found solace in each other, and Alice unequivocally considers herself part of Gran’s family. But that family is threatened when the death of a local man is pinned on Robbie—Gran’s daughter and Alice’s sister-in-law.

Robbie had been romantically involved with the murder victim, Angus McBride, the stubborn land manager for a prominent local family. Alice is sure that Robbie had nothing to do with the crime. Now she just has to prove it to the skeptical local police force. But she’s a long way from Texas, and the town inspector doesn’t like her interference.

The hunt for the true killer leads Alice to a group of nighthawkers, treasure hunters who use metal detectors to find ancient loot and sell it on the black market. There are rumors of a Viking hoard hidden in the cliffs, and someone is desperate to find it! Alice's Texas love interest, Ben Kinsear, supplies archeological help while Alice enlists aid from a surprising cast of characters. Can she unearth the ancient secrets at Gran's farm and get to the bottom of Angus's death before she herself becomes the third victim?

At that snatching minute

Look for that phrase, isn't it delightful! Some thriller bits in this book are quite ugly. And animal lovers be warned, a dog dies. AND STILL a pretty good read. Alice n Kinsear are sweet. Gran is a perfect delight! Robbie, hope to see more of Robbie.

Alice is someone I'd want to know , except, like Jessica Fletcher, people she knows keep being murdered.

The fourth outing with Alice and her keen mind, courage and energy. This installment finds her in Scotland with her beloved mother-in-law and children. It's not a casual visit; her late husband's ancestral home has once again been invaded, this time by murderous relic hunting thieves. Alice isn't entirely adrift with her MIL. Her sister-in-law is as stalwart as Alice, and friends from Coffee Creek have timed a trip to learn about the science of distilling scotch to coincide with Alice's visit. Handily, so has Ben, Alice's love interest. It's another well-plotted story that kept me reading into the wee hours. I hope we'll see more of Alice, even if it means some one has to die. Or more than one.
