We're the D'Artigo sisters: sexy, savvy operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. But being half-human, half-Fae means our supernatural talents always go haywire at the wrong time. My sister Camille is a wicked good witch who attracts men like honey attracts flies. Menolly's a vampire who's still getting the hang of being undead. And me? I'm Delilah, a werecat who's been marked by the Autumn Lord as one of his Death Maidens. And wouldn't you know it, Karvanak--the demon general who stole the third Spirit Seal--is back. And this time, he's out for blood...

The Hags of Fate enjoy seeing me squirm. First, my boyfriend, Chase, mutters another woman's name in his sleep. Then I discover the Autumn Lord has a very special plan for me. But things go from bad to deadly when Karvanak--the Rāksasa--returns. In order to get his greedy hands on both the fourth Spirit Seal and his former associate, Vanzir, he kidnaps Chase. Now, we have to find a way to rescue the man I love without risking the safety of both Otherworld and Earth...

When ever I pick up an Otherworld book I'm always surprised by how much I enjoy them. Each sister has a fun take on Galenorn's world. Camille is the eldest, then Dehilah, and finally Menolly. This book is from my favorite sister, Delilah, and stands as number 5. I love how the books transition from sister to sister. The plots always merge seamlessly, which is a good thing because there is a lot of plot.

I admit to having some doubts about Night Huntress. I just couldn't image how Galenorn would make me interested in the relationship between Dehilah and Chase (the full blooded human boyfriend). It wasn't the interspecies aspect, but the fact the Chase cheats on poor Dehilah. Though, admittedly, Delilah was the first to cheat, except she fesses up to it. Sounds like crazy soap opera junk, right?. Well it works. Galenorn pulls everything off, and in spite of myself, I was cheering the lovebirds on.

Conclusion:

These are paranormal romance books so if you have doubts I'd suggest checking them out from the library. The series is peppered with sexual content. Each book has enough insane plot and a wild cast of characters to make up for the Romance aspect. Everything mythology you could possibly think of is packed into these books. I find myself not only waiting for the continuing adventures of the sisters, but pondering what crazy mythology Galenorn will think of next.

I think I've finally worked out the things that annoy me about this series, because the premise is quite interesting, yet it just doesn't grab me as I think it should. First, it's the way everything is explained, in fact everything is over-explained. Too much explanation and too little action. Something as simple as hearing the dog bark next-door, and we have to know about the breed of dog, the personality, if it goes for walkies, the fact that it sometimes does its business in the wrong yard, what the owners feed it, etc etc. And flippancy. The tone is just too flippant. Each book is narrated by a different sister in turn, and they all seem come across as dumbo airheads who act first and think later, without exception, even with all they have seen and supposedly learned. And the other thing which I have finally put my finger on, is there is too much exposition. Absolutely nothing is left for the imagination of the reader to fill in. The obvious is always stated, clues and plot are constantly repeated. For example, one character is a Japanese fox-demon who also has a human form. He changes into the demon every time there is a battle. And we know this, because it was explained quite clearly the first time it happened, down to face shape, hairiness, and size of genitalia. And yet, every time he changes, we still get the whole description, again, as if we were too stupid to remember it from the first time it happened 50 pages ago. A little sparsity never hurt anyone!

This book was probably the breaking point for me; the series was tolerable enough up until this point. I think the author perhaps forgets that she's writing as Delilah and slips in some elements of Menolly and Camille. Delilah seems incredibly inconsistent but maybe that's just supposed to be in keeping with her sisters' viewpoints of her; nonetheless, Delilah seems much more angsty than she does in the novels told from the other POVs.

Perhaps the most annoying aspect of the book was her relationship with Chase. Not only does she get back with him after he lies and cheats --- for four weeks! --- but she's going to ask about giving him the nectar of life so he'll live longer! My honest reaction at that was, "WHAT?"

I don't know if I'll keep reading the series. There's a lot of potential and I like to see a thing through but I'm having a hard time hanging in there.

Fifth in the Otherworld / Sisters of the Moon urban fantasy series revolving around three unusual Fae sisters. The D'Artigo girls. This story is from Delilah's perspective.

My Take
What a load of crap! I really thought Galenorn was improving as a writer and Night Huntress has proved me wrong. Whatever happened to continuity? Oh, wait, I know what happened...this must be a dream sequence that Delilah is having. One in which she sees herself as brave and commanding. 'Cause it sure ain't the impression I've been getting of her. I don't care if this story is from Delilah's perspective. Galenorn depicts Camille as meek, following Delilah's strategy and commands out in the field. Right along with Morio and Smoky, Iris, and Mennolly when she can come along

It's five books in and the girls are just now figuring out tha they need wards that EVERYONE can hear when they break?

This is one of those where you'll find yourself rolling your eyes and murmuring "oh, brother". A lot.

Oh, please, can it be more obvious when Delilah avoids taking an important call from Sharah?

It's all Keystone Kops again.

Mennolly does make a good point about how all the supernaturals treat Chase. He is more fragile with fewer powers. And he is a human male with all the ego that implies. It simply confirms what Chase said earlier.

The Story
A floundering bloatwurgle wakes everyone up and tips the girls and friends that Storm Wing is back on the move. He's hunting for the nine pieces of a Spirit Seal created at the end of the last supernatural war.

It's not the only monster, for Vanzir reports finding a nest of venidemons that must be dealt with, and Delilah gets her second clue that life with Chase is not that sweet while the Autumn Lord sends Delilah on a task into Darkynwyrd.

The adventures in this evil forest lead them to an old friend of Trillian's who has welcome news that just pisses Camille off. But the fun doesn't stop. Delilah and Zach go undercover to an S&M vampire club with Mennolly — only, they're the subs.

The Characters
Delilah D'Artigo has picked up some extras — there's her regular were-house cat she shifts into, and now, after their encounter with the Autumn Lord (he's got some long-term plans for his only living Death Maiden), she also shifts into a panther and one of the Element's Death Maidens. Delilah's sword has a name — Lysanthra; she also has a deceased twin who shows up on the ghostly plane as a giant leopard who helps Delilah fight. Chase Johnson is burning the candle at quite a few ends having taken on his newly deceased boss' role in addition to handling the Faerie-Human Crime Scene Investigations team. For some reason, he's more and more reluctant to get up close and personal with Delilah.

Camille D'Artigo is living in the woods near Smoky's barrow with her two husbands: Smoky the dragon shifter and Morio the fox demon. They're still hoping to find and free Trillian so he can join their happy trio. Technically, Camille still runs the Indigo Crescent Bookstore, but more and more with Henry Jeffries' help. She's a witch dedicated to the Moon Mother and now carries a very powerful magical weapon.

Mennolly D'Artigo is a tactless half-fae, half-vampire and runs the Wayfarer Bar and Grill. Iris is a Talon-haltijia and a priestess of Undutar who is still seeing Bruce O'Shea, a leprechaun. Maggie is a calico gargoyle baby and she's starting to take a few steps. Rozurial is an incubus and we meet his wife, Fraale, a dominatrix succubus forced to work for Karvanak. A very sad story. Vanzir is a dreamchaser demon who defected to the girls. He had been a Gift to Karvanak from another demon. Yugi is a Swedish empath and Sharah is an elf-medic at the F-H CIS.

Tanaquar is the rebellion's leader and Lesthesanar is the drug addict queen. Tanaquar's new adviser is their dad, Sephreh ob Tanu.

Zachary Lyonnesse is a werepuma with the Rainier Puma Pride who is interested in picking up with Delilah. He's also running for City Council in Puyallup on a Supe platform, but the Elders are not happy about it. Venus Moon Child is the pride's shaman.

Lindsey is pregnant. Erika is Chase's undisclosed ex-fiancée. Why she thinks it's okay to hurt Delilah I do not know. I do, however, understand her desire for revenge on him!

Darynal is a Svartan friend of Trillian's with news who lives alone in the forest and traps furred animals or supernaturals.

Titania is the Seelie Queen, Morgaine is dusk, and Aeval is the Unseelie Queen. They're back and setting up their Earthside faerie courts and the tensions between Earthside and Otherword fae is rising.

Karvanak is a Räksasa demon and one of Storm Wing's generals. He got the drop on them in Dragon Wytch , 4, and made off with that Spirit Seal. Shadow Wing is a demon Lord who rules the Subterranean Realms and intends to overrun Earthside.

The Elliot Bay Orcas have joined the Supe community project. The murder of the elf in Dragon Wytch has resulted in the Alysin te Varden Lending Library, a collection of books related to all the fae races.

The Cover and Title
The cover is a full range of browns from pale gold through oranges to deepest brown. Her blonde hair swirling around her head, Delilah is crouching down in profile wearing her black leather pants and a burgundy tank top, a knife hanging from her hips, and her head turned toward us. The background is stone, a wide ring of stone carved into the stone wall behind Kitten with a primitive cat's head carved in its center.

The title refers to Delilah, the Night Huntress who prowls in the dark.

A fun paranormal romance read. She really does well in weaving in so many story "threads" without it being overwhelming.

Delilah is definitely a favorite of mine, and I enjoy the cat aspect of her character. Chase is kind of meh, but I'm looking forward to reading more.

Spoilers!!!

I thought this book was excellent, and I think of all the sisters I like Delilah the most. I'm really interested in how the Death Maiden aspect plays out. That should make for excellent storyline development.

However, for the love of Bast :) why oh why does Delilah love Chase??? Because he's an FBH like her mother or what?! Especially with the reason for Chase's embarrassing ill-behavior: because he's just a pig! His betrayal had been going on for weeks, yet Delilah suddenly forgives Chase because he was in mortal danger? I really am NOT a fan of Chase, he's a selfish liar and not at all worthy of Delilah. Zachary, on the other hand, really gets the short end of the stick. I am hoping in the future for more pumalicious Zachary and less of Detective Johnson (who quite decidedly thinks with his own when it comes to women, and I doubt that will change). Please, please, please, Yasmine more Zachary for Delilah!

Nice to see more of what is going on in the war against Shadow Wing. Glad Camille is doing okay with Smoky and Morio. Hope she is able to find Trillian. Also hope that Chase and Delilah will be okay now. Glad their father is okay and alive.

Can't wait to read Demon Mistress!!!!

4.5 stars - great!

I first read this book November 23-25, 2013.
I reread it January 25-26, 2017.

The below review is adapted/updated from the review I wrote after my first reading of this book.

I really enjoyed this book (okay, I'm loving the whole series)...It was exciting: full of action that kept me both entertained and tense. I liked reading about the new demons and creatures the sisters met (and fought), and it was rather fun to be in Delilah's head again for this story. It was neat to learn . All of these things make me especially eager to read on to find out what happens next! :-)

The one thing I didn't really feel overjoyed about is that . Understand it? Yes. . . Like it? No. :-( I like Zachary better. (Though I am really hoping Delilah will find someone new to love.)

For more of my thoughts (including spoilers, so beware!), read the below status updates, from my first reading, especially. I tried to keep track of how I felt (and what was going on) as I was reading.

This second time through, and possibly the first time, too, I both laughed and cried at lines. :-)

That said, though, I still feel like this story is just 4.5-stars-great. Delilah just comes across as too young/immature in too many scenes for me to rate this book higher. :-(

But the scene that surprised a laugh out of me can be found on page 128, in Chapter 13, when Delilah is talking with her sisters and Camille says,
"I always crave sugar when we're on a job."
Job . . . I blinked. "You know, I never thought of it before, but you're right. That's what all this has become, hasn't it? More so than the bookstore, than my supposed PI business . . . more than the Wayfarer Bar & Grill. Your mission, D'Artigo sisters, should you choose to accept it: Hunt down and procure the magical spirit seals before the demons get to them. If you should fail or be caught, Earth and Otherworld will suffer a horrible fate . . . "
Menolly snorted. . . .
lol Like Menolly, I just had to laugh. In my head, I imagined Delilah throwing her voice to speak the part in italics and it was just too funny not to laugh. ;-)

The scene that made me cry was in Chapter 29 (the final chapter), on page 286, when This was just such a poignant scene. Like Menolly, I had tears running down my face. :-)

I should share a few words on the overall story: Told from Delilah's point-of-view, we learned more about what it means that she is a Death Maiden. And in the final fight, :-)

In this book, we saw Delilah and her sisters go after the fourth spirit seal. But this was secondary to the true plot, which involved the Rāksasa we met in book four. He kidnaps Chase and And happily, they succeed. :-)

In the end, the D'Artigo sisters

:-)

Oops, almost forgot. We met more new creatures and beings in this book! The sisters met and/or fought bloatworgles, venidemons, a hellhound, a revenant, a winged centaur, wights, a shade, a Scytatian/Scythe Reaper (a being from the Netherworld), and a succubus ( And not only did we meet a succubus, we learned that ). Also, :-)

So, lots of fun was to be had in this story. Again, I really enjoyed it. :-)

3 1/2 maybe less
Well, there are things that I liked and things that I thought were just too washed over. Then there were the several battle scenes that seem to be overwhelming and go on too long. I think that might have brought down my like the most. Still the relationship issues... well, trust isn't restored overnight by a brush with death. I guess you get to see where it goes in the next books but it is a little irritating. So, although it was interesting, I felt it is doomed to failure.

Although I seem to like the books other than Camile's, the series is just not coming to be great. It is just good. I'll have to think of whether I want to go on. I probably will read Menolly's book as I like her's but it'll be a question whether I go on from there. I don't think you can just skip every 3rd book and understand it.

Was soll ich sagen?

I decided to read Yasmine Galenore because she is very capable when it comes to writing about otherworldly creatures like elves and fairies and gnomes and unicorns, oh my. I wanted to figure out if my dislike of those creatures is because of poor writing on other authors parts or is it that I just don't like those creatures. I've discovered its because I don't like those creatures. So, I'm going to give this a solid three and say I'm done with 'otherworldly' creatures for a long time.

Title : Night Huntress
Author : Yasmine Galenorn
Publisher : Berkley Publishing
ISBN : 978-0425225462
Series : Yes, #5
Rating : 4

From Booklist :

"Delilah’s not sure which is more troublesome, fighting demons or figuring out what’s bothering boyfriend Chase. As the war and love life grow more complicated, new threats emerge from Netherworld. One bit of good news: another Spirit Seal has emerged, and she, her sisters, and allies have a jump on the enemy. The bad? That won’t stop the enemy from threatening what Delilah holds dear. Delilah matures in a number of ways in this entertaining continuation of the Sisters of the Moon series. Part questing adventure, part urban fantasy with a liberal serving of romantic entanglements, the story should appeal to a wide range of fantasy fans."

Review :

Delilah D'Artigo isn't your average girl, she's half-Fae, half-human, Were-tabby, and Were-panther, as well as being one of the Autumn Lord's Death Maiden's. She has enough on her hands with having to be all of these things. Just when she thinks it can't get any worse, her boyfriend Chase mutters another woman's name in his sleep. This throws her for a loop, and she's not sure whether she should be upset because he could be cheating on her, even though she had told him she had slept with Zachary Lyonnesse of the Rainer Were Puma Clan. Life as a Fae isn't about fidelity, as they aren't monogamous, but with her half-human blood she feels the green head of jealousy looming on the horizon. It doesn't make matters any better when the cat in her feels as though someone has just stepped on her turf.

With the appearance of the fourth spirit seal, the D'Artigo girls must get together to collect it before Shadowwings cronies can get their mitts on it. But when Chase gets himself captured by Karvanak, a deadly Raksasa general of Shadowwings army, Delilah has to decide whether Chase's infidelity is even a major problem, now that his life is on the line.

This is the fifth installment to the Sisters of the Moon series. Delilah D'Artigo is honestly my favorite character of all the combining books. She has problems, and she's not afraid to admit it, but she knows when it's time to fight she needs to put them aside and do whats right.

I wanted to like this book more than I did, but I just couldn't. The storyline itself is fabulous, with lots of history and information to make your brain just have a field day. There are plenty of Fae, Demons, and other otherworldy creatures that will be sure to give you your weekly dose of supernatural. The one thing I can't get over is how these girls just collect men like I collect books! I know, I know, that shouldn't be a major problem because it's just a book, but I'm purely monogamous myself, and it's hard for me to get into their many relationships.

All in all, I do recommend this book purely for the story line itself. If you love Fae, Witches, Weres, Dragons and the like, your sure to love this book. I highly recommend you start from the beginning of the series with Witchling, the story of Camille D'Artigo. I can't wait to see what happens next with the sisters in the newly released Demon Mistress. There is also a seventh book on the horizon for 2010, Bone Magic.

The D'Artigo sisters are back for the fifth time with werecat Delilah to tell the story. With four previous stories there's a lot of background that has lead us up to this latest adventure. In short the three sisters have come to Earth from their home in Otherworld, have become Earth's protectors from the demons of the Sub-Realms and made some interesting friends and enemies along the way. Delilah was marked by the Autumn Lord in Changeling. Becoming his only living Death Maiden she has gained the ability to shapeshift not just into her little tabbycat form but into the form of a panther. But having a new form isn't really a gift it's part of her new job. Sending Delilah on a special mission he lets her know he has plans for her, one in particular she may not be sure she is ready for.

Meanwhile, Karvanak, the nasty demon the sisters have faced before, has kidnapped Chase (Delilah's full blooded human boyfriend) to use as a hostage. He wants the fourth Spirit Seal in exchange but there's no way in hell the sisters are willing to risk their homes for the life of one man. It's up to them to find a way to rescue Chase, protect the fourth Seal and destroy Karvanak before the tables get turned.

Bah! I really was hoping for another story I would love as I had the last two. Unfortunately, Night Huntress just fell short in several ways. For one, the storyline direction that the author took with Chase and Delilah's relationship felt unnecessarily random. For fans who have liked their relationship this change may be a disappointment. Once again the author had her characters doing a lot of conflict-meets-instant-solution type plotting which left me frustrated because I enjoy seeing characters struggle to come up with a good plan or needing some outside power to guide them to the right solution. There was a lot of talking when it wasn't suited to the scene and over-description to the point of beating dead horses at times. When there's too much "what should we do?" going on in the middle of a fight it bogs the action down.

While those things definitely frustrated me there were many good parts of the book as well. Carefully sprinkled throughout are important little additions to the story that serve to help the many different sub/side stories move forward. Finding out what's happening with the civil war in OW and hints about Menolly's vampire group strengthen to plot of the series. The list of secondary characters in this series has gotten a bit overloaded (in my opinion) but again some of those serve important purposes.

Night Huntress is definitely not my favorite of the series so far but it was by no means awful.

Review:
Delilah and the Cheating, No Good, Very Bad Human.

In Night Huntress we are back to Delilah, and she gets even more chances to not control herself as before. Okay, she is a bit better at it. At least Delilah is a very sweet character. Not as sweet as sugar, but much sweeter than her sisters.

And Delilah is leveling up. She is the living handmaiden to the Harvestman. He unlocks more of her powers, and now he is sending her on a quest to level up her powers through her own means. Because these sisters will be Powers when this series ends, or else! There is actually a lot of interesting things about Delilah's relationship with her god.

With Night Huntress, we are also back to the quest for the spirit seals. As with the previous books in this series, once the book starts the book doesn't end. You go from one event to another to another seemingly randomly. No organization whatsoever. This is also a very demon heavy book, which is actually more interesting than the sisters themselves.

However, the brunt of Night Huntress is actually about her relationship with Chase. Because he cheated on her. And it is such a big deal because he didn't tell her he was going to, or that he did. She found out because she walked in on them. And it is just so annoying. I really am starting to grow tired of jealousy in my books, especially books that constantly tell you again and again that they are sexual creatures and it is common to have multiple lovers. And this is just so over the top. I still cannot understand why she decides to give him another chance if she was so heartbroken over it.

Camille was also in this book way more than I expected her to be, because it is a Delilah book. But, honestly, I have no idea why this series decided to switch between the three sisters anyway. The only one that really matters as a character for the story is Camille. Which really weakens the series as a whole.

Here's hoping to no jealousy in the next book! 🤞

How Dumb Can You Get?

This book was my least favorite in the series so far. Mostly because I saw Delilah as having the most room for personal and spiritual growth considering the innocence of her character, her Were-cat nature, her role as a death maiden, and her mysterious twin sister. But, boy, was I disappointed!

I was actually dreading reading this book because it’s Delillah’s POV. I guess because she’s like a kitten, well she is, but I mean in her personality. She’s ready to attack and pounce sometimes but mostly she is skittish. Most of the time she second-guesses her decisions and that quality is what I really don’t like about her.

And then this thing happened with Chase. Oh my God it actually hurts. I can’t believe it. I mean, I may like Chase Johnson but he is definitely not on my list of BBF’s here.

But with all the things that’s been happening, I can’t really dwell on it. Fuck relationships, saving the world is way more important.
“You know, life can’t stand still. People and relationships must evolve.”

Still, after all that happened and the talk, and Chase admitting his faults (I know, I have hang ups with Chase) it still have an ending that I love, full of hope and love. And I admire Delilah in level with Camille and Menolly.

Chase may have been way up the ladder here. I’ve liked him more than Zach and Morio. He’s way second to Smoky.

OHHHH ohh ohhh...I could have killed Chase! Would have murdered him!! Won't give any details so that you all can read it for yourselves but OHHH! And yea if I was delilah I would just go for the Autum Lord, be your death madien...sure, carry your child at some point in the future sure....whoa nelly...I'll do those for mind blowing orgasms just from his breath on my lips,OH yes I will! But I do like Zach if I had to choose between him or Chase I would go for him...but thats just me! I liked that we got a bit more info on Roz...mmm yes he's scrumptious. Now the question is...are he and Menolly having midnight reundevous...or arent they. Also if they are how will that work with Nerissa. Lots of battling in this one, which was good to take my mind off of wanting to kill Chase. Also Vanzir will be interesting to learn more about. But in the end it was great to get a bit of happy since the sisters have been getting alot of grief. I wish I could say more but that would give stuff away! On to the next one!

I really wanted to give this book a three star because I wanted to slap Delilah for her reactions to Chase. I also wanted to slap both of her sisters for their advice. In the long run I guess I have to go with four because I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next. So far I can say that of all the sisters I think I have found Delilah to be my favorite. In this book I can also say that more than any other component of the storyline was the relationship with Chase. From that start I knew something was up, from there I was obsessed with finding out what. On the other hand I argued, loudly, with the reactions of Delilah and wanted to choke both her and kick the crap out of Chase. Eventually I was disappointed with the ending and pray this whole thing will blow up in their faces. LOL

OK on to Demon Mistress, hope this isn't more "whoa is me".

Delilah is finally starting to become one of my favorite sisters. She isn't being the squeamish pussycat she once was. She has to stand and fight for herself and her family. And decide what man she wants to be with also. Some great action in this book and a little loving too. ;)

Delilah deserves better than Chase and Puma boy. I think it's cool that she has her own thing with the Autumn Lord, I can't wait to see where she goes from there. Also a secret sister from beyond? I'm glad that her main character flaw of being naïve is constantly being demolished. You think you can be kind to Wisteria? Bad idea, she tried to kill you! You think the full blooded human, who is barely keeping his shit together as he is exposed to more things that don't exist in his small world, can handle possible keep it together after you sleep with another dude who is not human and can relate to you in ways that he can't?? Nope he is a huge piece of shit that cracks under all that pressure and cheats on you with his ex. Wow~ how did we not see this coming??? Wasn't this the same guy who was trying to get in Camille's pants in the first book? Delilah will be so much stronger without Chase and I can not wait to see it.
