Este tomo se beneficia de que el último álbum, "El embajador de las sombras", es una maravilla. No tanto por la historia que desarrolla, un ir de un lugar hacia otro estirando un argumento más de la cuenta, como por la plenitud de Mezières; página tras página deslumbra con sus civilizaciones y sus paisajes alienígenas. Además está protagonizado por Laureline, que tiene toda la sangre en el cuerpo que le falta a Valerian. Los dos anteriores son historias más infantojuveniles con un encanto menor, particularmente "Los malos sueños", que con un trazo más cartoon es pura fórmula de Pilote. "La ciudad de las aguas movedizas" en ese sentido se siente como un avance, más propio de cuando se publicó (los 70) al plasmar unos EE.UU. postapocalípticos y paisajes muy trabajados.

I enjoyed reading these science fiction stories, but for some reason I kept feeling that Valerian and Laureline were characters that things happened to. In other words, they reacted to the strange situations they were in, but weren't ever really in control of anything. I would have enjoyed the stories more if they had more agency. I did enjoy the old 70s style art, though.

Tres aventuras de Valerian y Laureline.

"Los malos sueños" Buen argumento de fantasía y magia. Valerian viaja al siglo X.

"La ciudad de las aguas movedizas" La Tierra del 1986 arrasada por tsunamis y cambio climático "avant la lettre". Muy buena.

"El embajador de las Sombras". ¡Excelente! Sense of Wonder a raudales. La historia en la que se basa la próxima película "La ciudad de los mil planetas". Laureline es la verdadera protagonista de la aventura y la que "saves the day" como dicen en inglés.

and so on to the third of the hardback collected stories of Valerian - it also contains the third and final part of the Luc Besson interview which acted as the link to the film. There are also interviews with the creative team that brought the original comics although their presence is played down (which I think is a bit of a shame considering how more important they are than promoting the film)

However it all leads to a beautiful book which contains the next 3 chapters in the story of Laureline and Valerian one of which was the basis of the film (although it is only loosely).

These stories were published chronologically and you can see how the story, artwork and even characters have developed and evolved. You can certainly start to see things mature and in the process their influence on the whole genre becoming more pronounced

this book definitely deserves being a collectors edition (although the price can be a bit of a shock) and this is still relatively early - the series has 7 books in total spanning their career the question is where will they go next

Valérian and Laureline is without a doubt THE classic science fiction comic of all times. Christin writes intelligent yet exciting scripts that are full of social commentary, and Mézières has an exquisite ability to create a seemingly endless range of innovative and strange but still believable alien cultures.

Fortunately, we now get the whole classic series in beautiful hardcover collections, with three albums in each volume. With this the third volume, we have come to the serie's real highlight in my opinion, the second half of the 1970s, when large-scale and innovative science-fiction drama was combined with inventive allegories of what was happening in the present day. The last album of this collection, Heroes of the Equinox, is an excellent example of this. A planet where the population is aging and infertile invite four representatives of different planets to fight for the right for their genes to renew the world. In addition to Valérian, the three others come from totally different alien worlds, while at the same time being representatives of fascism, communism, and spiritualism respectively. An exciting, beautiful and sophisticated graphic novel that includes an analysis of the political situation of the late 1970s, complete with a humanist/feminist message.

This book also contains a comprehensive fact based section that adds new dimensions to the reading of these old classics. It just doesn't get any better than this.

En este tomo nos encontramos tres historias nuevas.
1. EL EMBAJADOR DE LAS SOMBRAS: Si no estoy mal, está historia es en sí la que se tomo como base para hacer la película, unas cosas concuerdan sin embargo como es obvio tiene modificaciones para poder llevarla a la pantalla grande.
En esta historia la que lleva la trama es Laureline quien está buscando a Valerian el que fue secuestrado por un grupo de alienigenas.
La verdad no entendí bien el motivo por que el embajador de la tierra y Valerian fueron secuestrados pero aun así la historia estuvo bien.


2. EN LAS TIERRAS ARTIFICIALES: este tomo vemos nuevamente a Laureline como la protagonista ella junto a Jarda una historiadora de Galaxity están en una misión viajando en el tiempo.
En esta misión muere Valentine.... Pero no pasa mucho cuando descubrimos que en la misión están usando clones de él.
Al final descubrimos que Jarda está obsesionada con el Diseñador de las épocas a las que están viajando y su finalidad era conocerlo más no detenerlo.

3. LOS HÉROES DEL EQUINOCCIO: Valerian es enviado como vencedor de la tierra a Simlane un planeta en el cual la gente es vieja e infertilidad, y él junto con otros tres vencedores de otros planetas deben de recorrer un camino largo en una hila de donde provienen los jóvenes del planeta.
Después de un arduo camino con diversas pruebas difíciles Valerian sale vencedor. El premio ...Fertilizar a la madre suprema de esa isla y así poder dar vida a la nueva generación. Algo que molesta a Laureline.

Este tomo contiene la historia en que se basaron para hacer la película , luego de leer la historia puedo decir que hicieron un buen trabajo con la adaptación del mismo.

Poder ver como manejan ese balance entre el romance de los protagonistas y como cada cual tiene protagonismo en las diversas historias me parece un trabajo sobresaliente para todos los años que llevan publicadas estas historias.


Es una buena eleccion para todo amante del sci-fi que este abierto a ver un sinfín de historias que se toman algunas libertades pero nos llevan en cada una un producto totalmente diferente.

Kolejny tom zbiorczy „Valeriana”. Kolejne trzy historie. Kolejne alegorie i morały. Tym razem na szczęście mamy trochę podróży w czasie, dla przebicia monotonii opery kosmicznej. Jednak mimo odrobiny monotonii, którą odczuwam, czytając „Valeriana” – widać jego ewolucje pod względem graficznym i scenariuszowym. Jednak to już kwestia na poszczególne opowieści.

Sztuka Valeriana
Tak jak w innych wydaniach zbiorczych dostajemy bardzo ciekawe dodatki na początku. Kluczowym elementem tu jest sztuka Jeana-Claude’a Mézieresa. To on ożywia fantastyczne widoki z kadrów komiksu i dzieli się tu swoim przemyśleniami nad kreowaniem niestworzonego. Nie jest to jedyna jego warstwa.

W końcu ktoś musi ją kolorować – Évelyne Tranlé, która kolorowała całego Valeriana. Dostajemy tu przykład rozłożonego na warstwy rysunku. Szkicu Mézieresa, koloru Tranlé i ostatecznie końcowy produkt. Jest to z pewnością ciekawy widok, którego nie widzi się na co dzień, nawet czytając komiksy. Każdy z elementów wygląda inaczej i choć można dostrzec podobieństwa, bez drugiego jest czymś innym.

Jednak w tym krążeniu wokół sztuki dostajemy też inne jego próbki, co będzie kontynuowane w dodatku następnego tomu. Obaj autorzy potrzebowali czasem odpoczynku od Valeriana i Laureliny, więc robili skoki w bok. Czasem razem, czasem oddzielnie. Dlatego, gdy pojawia się rysunek lub okładka innego komiksu, po jednym spojrzeniu można być pewnym tylko jednego – czy narysował go Jean-Claude Mézieres. Jego styl, nawet lekko zmodyfikowany, jest po prostu charakterystyczny.

Więcej inspiracji i adaptacji
Film „Valerian i Miasto Tysiąca Planet” (reż. Luc Besson, 2017) czerpał inspiracje z wcześniejszego 3. numeru – „Cesarstwo Tysiąca Planet” i z pierwszego albumu tego wydania zbiorczego „Ambasadora Cieni”. Możnaby snuć teorie, czemu akurat inspiracje poszły w tym kierunku, ale wydaje się dość prawdopodobnie wskazać tego powód.


„Ambasador Cieni”, s. 4 wg. paginacji na kadrach

Punkt centralny, centralny punkt galaktyki, gdzie spotykają się wpływy i dyplomaci wszystkich rozwiniętych gatunków. Miejsce tak wielkie, że niemożliwe do zdominowania. A w niej kryją się tajemnice, sekrety i autochtoniczne gatunki, których nikt nie zna.

Przynajmniej trochę może to przypominać Cytadelę z serii „Mass Effect” (pl.: „Efekt Masy”). Serii wydawanej w latach 2007-2012, ale akurat w 2017 roku wydano jej spin-off – „Mass Effect: Andromeda” (prod. BioWare). Sam nie grałem w tę serię (jeszcze), a najwyżej widziałem fragmenty gameplay’u i może patrze na wyrost, ale wydaje mi się, że te powiązania nie są przypadkiem.

Ambasador Cieni
Przejdźmy jednak do właściwych historii, a nie dodatków i powiązań. Na koniec napiszę tylko, że wstęp i podejście do przedstawienia powyższej ilustracji jest niezwykle filmowy i klimatyczny. Zaczyna się powoli, z narracją z offu, a z czasem kadry rosną. Zaczyna się od szerokich, by przejść do wyższych prostokątnych i skończyć na widocznym splashu (rysunku pełnostronnicowym). Podczas czytania tego wstępu ma się wręcz poczucie, jakby oglądało się początek „2001: Odysei kosmicznej” (reż. Stanley Kubrick, 1968), albo innych filmów o kosmosie czy SF.

Jeśli chodzi o samą fabułę, to poznana w poprzednim tomie drapieżna natura Galaxity powraca. Valerian i Laurelina mają chronić ambasadora Galaxity. Ten ma jednak niecny plan, o którym wiedzą już mieszkańcy Punktu Centralnego.

Z tego powodu ambasador stety niestety zostaje porwany i tym razem na barkach Laureliny pozostaje ratować dzień. W poprzednich tomach powoli dostawała ona coraz więcej miejsca, stawała się coraz sprawcza, ale dopiero w tym dostaje pełnie uwagi. Nie ma tu równego rozłożenia fabuły jak w „Wojnie Płci”, ani nie pełni wyłącznie zwyczajowej roli świerszcza Valeriana.

Ta Laurelino-centryczność tego albumu pozwala jej zabłysnąć na wielu polach. Dostajemy jej dylemat moralny ws. ratowania ambasadora. To jej misja i raczej nie życzy mu złego, ale jednocześnie nie zgadza się z jego planami, ani go nie lubi. Mimo tych wątpliwości wplątuje się w tę sensacyjno-kryminalną sprawę, odkrywa pradawne tajemnice Punktu Centralnego, ale przede wszystkim robi miny. W tym albumie chyba ma najbardziej rozbudowaną mimikę, i gdyby „Valerian” wychodził dziś, to na pewno trafiłaby one do folderów z obrazkami reakcyjnymi.


„Ambasador Cieni”, s. 15 wg. paginacji na kadrach

Ten album ma bardzo ciekawą lokację, którą mimo zawarcia w jednym albumie, bardzo sprawnie ją rozbudowują. Z racji na jej wielkość, mnogość ras, obaj autorzy skutecznie przedstawiają zróżnicowanie, niezwykłość i rozmiar Punktu Centralnego. Możnaby napisać o tamtejszych centaurach lub kosmitach, którzy inspirowali gremlinowanetego Watto, ale zwyczajnie to porządny album z porządnym światotwórczym. Punkt Centralny najlepiej odkrywać organicznie i samemu.

Na fałszywych ziemiach
Kolejny album to właśnie podróż w czasie. Choć tak naprawdę nie do końca. Valerian eksploruje dziwne makiety wyciągnięte z różnych epok. Te twory zostawia nieznany winowajca, który w mniemaniu Galaxity szpieguje ludzką historię. Instancje te nie różnią się niczym od oryginału, poza swoim ograniczeniem przestrzennym i czasowym. Nie jest to też pierwszy raz, gdy widzę podobny koncept. Jak to jest często – został on użyty w jednym z komiksów z Myszką Miki o podróżach w czasie.

Sam Valerian podróżuje przede wszystkim po sceneriach z okolic przełomu XIX i XX wieku. W ramach swoich krótkich przygód może nie popisuje się minami, jak Laurelina, ale przynajmniej za każdym razem ma nowy strój.

Ta podróż Valeriana okazuje się mieć kilka mocnych fantastycznych przekazów, jednak finał ma element prawdziwej osobistej dramaturgii. Pozwala to osadzić historię mimo eksplorowania dość abstrakcyjnych i akademickich tematów.

Bo w gruncie rzeczy album ten krąży wokół pytań dotyczących historii jako dziedzictwa i jako nauki. Co by było gdyby, historycy mogli podróżować w czasie? Czy ratowałoby to dawną sztukę, czy dawałoby coraz więcej możliwości do jej zawłaszczania dla następców zachodnich muzeów? Co jest gorsze – patrzenie z obojętnością na okropności przeszłości, czy też z protekcjonalnością? Czy może te podejścia tak bardzo od siebie się nie różnią?

Te rozważania o traktowaniu przeszłości na tak wielką skalę poza Myszką Miki przywiodło mi na myśl inne dzieło. „All Tommorrows” Nemo Ramjeta to specyficzna fikcja kreująca się na pracę historyczno-etnograficzną nieznanego kosmity w dalekiej przyszłości, który opisuje w niej dzieje rodzaju homo. Ten „Valerian” ma podobne ciągoty, choć akurat jego skala jest dużo mniejsza i ma inne podejście.

Ten album kryje w sobie ciekawe rzeczy, ale nie każdemu pewnie spodoba się tak jak mi. Dla zachęty dam tu wojska brytyjskie w Indiach:


„Na fałszywych ziemiach”, s. 1 wg. paginacji na kadrach

Bohaterowie równonocy
Ostatnim albumem tego tomu jest historia, którą można nazwać bajką polityczną. Pierre Christin przedstawia nam wyścig ideologii. Choć ja nazwałbym go bardziej wyścigiem plemników z racji na cudaczną fabułę. W menu mamy imperializm, komunizm, spirytualizm i Valeriana, czy jakkolwiek by to nazwać.

Na pierwszy rzut oka poza metaforycznym wyścigiem, komiks wdaje się opowiadać o starzejącej się Europie i imigracji. Jednak zbliżając się do wyścigu i stereotypowych ideologii – może też chodzić o starzejące się europejskie idee. Problem ten narodził się w modernizmie, przeobraził go I Wojną Światową w swoją mroczniejszą wersję właśnie z ideologiami, a na koniec terror II Wojny Światowej dobił pierwotne idee, dając światu postmodernizm. Czy jakkolwiek ten upadek opisać.

Mimo swojej prostoty jego przekaz jest jasny. Żadna z przedstawionych dróg nie jest idealna. Stąd jej karykaturalność, stąd realnie porażka. W warstwie wizualnej Christin pozwala Mezeriesowi zaszaleć i niektóre rysunki zbliżają się do wystaw Muzeum Sztuki Nowoczesnej, czy „Promethei” Alana Moore’a i J. H. Williamsa III. Jednak rysunki nie są tylko ładne – kadrowanie wyścigu w postaci 4 równoległych ścieżek jest niezwykle pomysłowe.

Ostatecznie w finale po wyścigu samców (alfa) dostajemy coś, co skłania do namysłu, czy „Valerian” nie inspirował też fantasy. A szczególnie Gwynevere z „Dark Souls” (prod. FromSoftware, 2009). Finał to jednak miejsce dla kobiet i zabłyśnięcie Laureliny, która na szczęście przywraca nam status quo, ratując Valeriana od szczęścia.

Koniec
Miałem przerwę od „Valeriana” i przeczytałem już następny tom, gdy to piszę. Dlatego raczej nie napisze nic lepszego lub mądrego od tego, co zostało napisane w dodatku do następnego tomu. Czy to o ewolucji całego komiksu, czy też jego ideach. Jednak muszę przyznać, że po powrocie i zachwycie następnymi czterema (sic!) albumami trochę zaciemnił mi się obraz tych poprzednich.

Jednak podczas pisania tego i przypominania sobie tych trzech komiksów wróciło nieco ciepła i chyba nie oceniam już ich tak surowo. To, że każdy kolejny komiks „Valeriana” jest odrobinę lepszy, a zarazem inny, to fakt. Nie znaczy to, że wcześniejsze też nie są dobre. To jak z „Blaskiem fantastycznym” jako pierwszym tomem Świata Dysku. Niby się odradza zaczynanie od niego, bo to jeszcze wyrabianie stylu Pratchetta, ale potrafi cieszyć.

Ostatecznie na pewno te trzy albumy warto przeczytać, bo dla jednych będą po prostu przyjemne. Dla innych ciekawe. A innych skłonią do refleksji lub będą mogły być punktem wyjścia do dyskusji. Jedyną poważną wadą są te małe literki – czasem strasznie się kurczą, ale czego się nie robi dla sztuki?

Det tredje samlebind med Linda og Valentin indeholder min absolutte favorit historie - nemlig Skyggernes Ambassadør.

Det er helt klart den jeg har læst flest gange og den jeg fandt mest eventyrlig af dem alle.

Der er mange forskellige skabninger med og illustrationerne er så fantasifulde, at man næsten kammer over af begejstring😃

Det er også Linda og Valentins tegner, der bliver fortalt om i forordet.

Jean-Claude Mézières har haft sin sag for med de fantastiske historier, som Christin rystede ud af ærmet.

Han sprang aldrig over, hvor gærdet var lavest. Mézières opfandt alting selv og det var ikke helt nemt. Ofte måtte Christin også skrive om, fordi tingene ikke var så Mézières kunne arbejde med det.

Det er ret sjovt at læse om de 'hårde fødsler', der har været undervejs😊

Som sagt er Skyggernes Ambassadør en af historierne i samlebindet. Her er vi på besøg hos det galaktiske FN, hvor jordens ambassadør bliver kidnappet.

En anden historie hedder I Den Falske Verden, som er en lidt spøjs fortælling om en masse Valentin kopier.

Den sidste historie hedder Jævndøgnets Helte. En pragtfuld historie, hvor Valentin skal i kappestrid med tre andre for at redde en døende planet.

A really excellent collection of three great Valerian stories. Less reliant on action set pieces, Chistin is able to explore more more political topics and get more sci-fi. Really cool world building, as is expected and strong stories. The best volume so far and a great introduction section with interviews and lots of background.

Inhalt
Der Jubiläumsband versammelt zwei Alben von Valerian und Veronique zum günstigen Preis. Der spannende Comic um die Raum-Zeit-Agenten hat längst Kultstatus erreicht. Dies ist die Chance, in die Serie hineinzuschnuppern. Große Funnyklassiker – kleiner Preis!

Meine Meinung
Zeichenstil
Der Stil ist etwas älter und für mich auch etwas veraltet. Die Farben sind sehr blass und eher unauffällig. Außerdem ist der Zeichenstil sehr ruhig und authentisch, jedoch ist es manchmal etwas sehr überladen.

Geschichten
Die Geschichten sind sehr authentisch und fantastisch erzählt. Außerdem ist es eher ruhiger und auch sehr lehrreich. Des Weiteren war es leider nicht ganz so interessant. Und doch ist es abwechslungsreich.
Zu den Autoren
Pierre Christin, geboren 1938 in Paris, Hochschullehrer, Schriftsteller und Journalist, gehört zu den profiliertesten und engagiertesten Comic-Autoren Europas. Nach dem Studium der Politik, Sozial- und Literaturwissenschaften ging er als Dozent für Französisch an die Universität von Salt Lake City. Dort besuchte ihn 1965 sein Jugendfreund Jean-Claude Mézières, der damals schon seit zehn Jahren als Zeichner arbeitete. Mézières überredete ihn, ein Comic-Szenario zu schreiben. So entstand die Kurzgeschichte "Le Rhum du Punch", die 1966 in "Pilote" veröffentlicht wurde. Nach dieser ersten Publikation entwickelte Christin unter dem Pseudonym Linus im Jahr darauf für Mézières die Serie "Valerian und Veronique" (dt. bei CARLSEN COMICS), die sich bereits nach wenigen Episoden zum bedeutendsten europäischen Science-Fiction-Comic entwickelte. Seit dem Erscheinungsjahr der ersten Folge hat Christin einen Lehrstuhl für Journalistik an der Universität zu Bordeaux inne. Neben "Valerian und Veronique" wurde Christin vor allem durch die "Legende von heute" berühmt, die er - abgesehen von der ersten, von Jaques Tardi 1972 gestalteten Episode - für Enki Bilal schrieb. In diesem Werk wir die folgende Zielsetzung Christins besonders deutlich: "Es ist meine Brechtsche Seite, dass ich finde, dass die aktuelle Kunst nicht mit Gestalten spielen soll, mit denen versucht wird, den Leser zu assimilieren oder umzuerziehen - aber man soll versuchen, bewusst zu machen. Es geht nicht darum, ins andere Extrem zu verfallen, sondern mit sozialen Kräften und Strömungen zu spielen. Hier haben Comics eine aussergewöhnliche Stärke - etwas ähnliches kann im Theater nicht und in Filmen nur schwer gemacht werden, Eisenstein und ein paar andere ausgenommen, nämlich die Massen und die sozialen Kräfte und nicht nur den Helden in den Mittelpunkt zu stellen." Aus seinem erfolgreichen Gesamtwerk ragen außerdem mehrere in sich abgeschlossene Alben für Annie Goetzinger heraus. Weiterhin schrieb Christin mehrere Romane, Theaterstücke und Filmdrehbücher. Er schreibt nicht nur Szenarien für "Valerian und Veronique", sondern auch für andere Zeichner, besonders bemerkenswert ist dabei sein Engagement für aufstrebende, junge Zeichentalente.

Empfehlung
Wenn ihr Comics in einem etwas älteren Zeichenstil mögt, dann seit ihr hier auf jeden Fall richtig. Außerdem ist er etwas für Star Wars Fans.

This volume collects three albums: "On False Earths" is the weakest story of the book, a time-travelish adventure with lots of Valerian clones to keep the action going.

"Heroes of the Equinox" pays homage to American-style superheroes, with an epic narrative split in four simultaneous timelines and an unexpected, hilarious ending. The political overtones on this one are quite evident, as the authors pit communism, fascism and ecofascism against each other.

"Ambassador of the Shadows" is the true jewel. This is one of the best Valerian tales so far, structured as a detective story where Laureline really shines. The amount of critters, places and cultures depicted is staggering, it's easy to see why this was selected as the inspiration for Luc Besson's (poor) film adaptation. And by the end we discover Earth's true imperialist intentions!

The plot thickens... this series has taken full flight now, the next volumes hold great promise and will definitely be part of my reading list.

Another collection of three stories, these are a bit odder, a bit more political than the previous books. And all three seem to feature a lot less of Valerian, a lot more of Laureline (with the exception of the last story).

"Ambassador of the Shadows" was the best of the bunch, with Laureline on a quest to find the Earth's ambassador and Valerian, travelling through strange environments. "On False Earths" is quite strange, with clone Valerians chasing an unknown interloper through time. And finally we get "Heroes of the Equinox", where Valerian completes against other heroes to win the right to save a civilization.

So, the comics are interesting, if a little, well, predictably dated, but I thought the interviews were mostly pretty frustrating (oh, to have the confidence and self-importance of white men). The art's great, the story lines, well, they're definitely from their time (there's a straw feminist in one of them! ooooooooohoooo).

If you've seen the movie, Valerian, (Personally, I thought it was bad, but not entertaining bad, boring bad) the comic that it was (loosely) based on is the first of the three in this book.

Another great collection of Valerian comics, including the inspiration for the lackluster film. I can see why they tried to make a film from it - the story is great and the visuals astounding. Too bad they chose such forgettable and humorless leads. Anyway, these comics are great and the attention to detail is amazing. Loved it, although the third and final story was a little too trippy for my taste...

What I love most about Valerian is the strength of the characters and its ability to relate to current events. Laureline has become one of my favorite protagonists. I like that she was the lead in “Ambassador of the Shadows.” All three stories were great. Valerian’s seemingly simple nature made him the hero in “Heroes of the Equinox.” I like that he was obviously not a classic super hero, but he was chosen as the victor. Overall a good read!

The first book: Ambassador Of The Shadows is the story that Luc Besson chose to adapt into the film: Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets. Which came out in 2017, 50 years after the very first Valerian story was published!

The good:
-The complexity of the stories improved a lot.
-The plots! The second and the third story were really good sci fi stories.
-I like a lot to see Laureline as protagonist of the first story, it was good as a change of pace.

The bad:
-I guess the translation of some of the dialogues made sometimes confusing to know the motivations of some characters.

This volume holds the story that was used as the basis for the recent movie, Valerian. It was interesting to see what was kept, what was changed, and what was left out. This isn't my style of art, but it was great to check out the source material.

A nice, solid ending to a three-volume collection. This contains the story the movie was based on. I still really enjoy the juxtaposition of whimsical art with serious, beyond-the-time commentaries. An overall fun and lighthearted collection.

Fun stories. Some focus on Valerian and others focus on Laureline.

A quest with unlimited resources.

A virtual world with infinite drones and trying to escape or join with the higher power.

A quest of four to bring a future vision to the next generation. The odd man out 'wins'.
