Fandom: Harry Potter -------------------------------------------------- Umbridge finds seven books about Harry Potter from another dimension in the Room of Requirement and decides to read them aloud to the school in an ill-advised attempt to discredit Dumbledore. Hilarity ensues. Features an actual plot, realistic reactions, decent pacing, *and minimal quotations*.
Really quite enjoyed this light hearted forey into a fairly standard fanfiction trope. It's well done and took a different spin on the reading itself, ensuring that it actually had a plot other than meerely commentary. Not that commentary can't be entertaining, but this certainly worked better to my mind. A serious fanfic read? Probably not. But entertaining and easy to read? Yep, most definitely.
A silly idea, but taken seriously. White Squirrel described it very well as a reverse parody. One of the things I love about this book is hyper-realistic reactions to oddities in the original books, like questioning the strange behavior of Albus Dumbledore, which I believe was Rowling's way to paint the Wizarding world as this odd and mysterious place, but in retrospect makes all the adults in Hogwartz incompetent and negligent. I should read all of White Squirrel's works. I like his style a lot. The only problem with this fanfiction is that it is too short.
