Ok, I’m not a chef, but I can follow cookbook directions and I love soups. This Easy Chowder cookbook provided me so many options to easily create fifty (Who knew there were so many?) kinds of chowder: from fish to shellfish, vegetarian to meat lovers, from spicy to mild and several with nods to culinary “sea to shining sea” regions and styles. Each recipe has a specific ingredient list to make your shopping list, easy-to-follow directions for an novice, information for time management (Prep, Cooking, and Total time), and valuable nutritional information (Calories, Fats, Carbs, Protein, Cholesteriol, and Sodium). I started with two chowders with which I was most familiar getting “yummy” praise from my book club: “Winter Country Leek Chowder” with chicken and ham and my cut-in-half version of “American Comfort Chowder” with bacon, of course. I would have liked a few suggestions on how to reduce the cream for lactose intolerant family and versions that are more family-size than catering quantities. It is a straightforward cookbook, but I would have enjoyed a bit of cultural or culinary background for the recipes, too. There is a delicious culinary journey waiting for me with the rest of the Chowder recipes...Full Creole Corn Chowder is next!
