You know us women, we have secrets. More than we care to admit. And sometimes, they leak out, sometimes not by choice. And then other times, they eat us up from the inside out. I know as you’re reading my words, you can relate, whether you care to admit it or not.

In the book ‘Playmaker’ the character Whitney Beaupré has a secret, one that she has kept for years. And if you are aware of the writings by Ms. Vicki, then you know. This book pertains to hockey. Therefore, Whitney has kept this secret both on and off the ice, and it is eating her up inside.

Whitney feels like she is trapped within herself, in a never-ending prison, not allowed to say or do what she wants, and she wants to be free, but at the same time, to break free, could be just as terrifying.

Then one day, Whitney meets the beautiful Hannah Kym, and the attraction to this woman is something much fiercer than she has ever experienced before. Not only that, it is instantaneous, something Whitney has also never felt before, it was like being pulled by a magnet.

Being on the Venom Hockey team has been Whitney’s main focus, but now her focus seems to be distracted. Her heart is compelled to call her out, and make her realize, that she doesn’t need to hide her true feelings any longer.

Whitney battles with her thoughts, and feelings, and realizes, being gay is not a crime, and she can come out of the closet. She just needs to build her own confidence, and hope that Hannah will return the feelings. The first step, is to stand strong, and upwards, and face her own fears, and admit and even confess to everyone else, her own secret, that she has been hiding all of these years.

In this story, Vicki helps you as the outsider, see and feel, that as an LGBTQ person, you are not the only person battling with secrets, and hiding your true self from others. And that believe it or not, as you will learn, and maybe didn’t even know, there may be another feeling the same way about you, just waiting on you to make the first move.

It is time to stop hiding in the closet. The world is changing, be confident, and stand up for yourself, and to others. There isn’t a need to hide any longer. Yes, people will judge. But you are you, and the only way to be a successful you, is by trying, and going for it.

I give this book five amazing stars. I like the fact that Vicki addressed this issue. And she did a beautiful job at it too! Very impressive, job well done Vicki, as always! If you aren’t a fan of Vicki yet, like myself, you will be now! She is truly an amazing writer!

Playmaker is a F/F spinoff of the Venom series. So That makes it a book 4.5 or 5. I think it can stand alone pretty well, but there is a lot of characters from the series in the story too. So you may want to read them all so you know the other characters and because they are fun, awesome reads.
Also, I want to say you don't have to be a big hockey or sports fan to enjoy the story either. It is a great romance and focuses around that.

Whitney has been hiding her sexuality from her teammates. She has even gone as far as trying to come off as a player and acting as she had slept with lots of the hockey players. She finally gave that up and began hanging in the background pushing people away. Except for Stephanie and Helen.
She meets a cute college student that couldn't be more her opposite, and they bond quickly, but Hannah is not in the closet and refuses to be a dirty little secret, so will Whitney stay in the closet or will love win? I will let you read and find out.

I love V. L. Locey's way with characters and every book she writes surprises me and makes me deliriously happy. I love the opposites attract theme of the story and the LGTBQ story line. I also like how the comradery fits in with her teammates as well. V>L. Has a way to mix her characters, a great storyline, and hockey to tell a great story and come across with a powerful life lesson as well.

My only issue was I wish the story was just a little longer. I felt like it came to a sudden end, though it was a good ending I would have liked to seen more. I cannot wait for the next venom book to see who is next on the love roster.
If you like hockey, F/F stories, opposites attract, coming out, and a steamy romance this is for you.

Two things about V.L. Locey, if you've followed her on social media is you know she loves hockey and writing. Playmaker is an F/F hockey novella. It's a short read which I favor in times when I want to read some amazing and fast. There's a grittiness only a hockey story can give, but there's heart and sweetness as well.

The two MC's in this book are Hannah and Whitney. Whitney is an in the closet hockey player. Fear pretty much has kept her there. Fear is a powerful thing that controls a lot of us. Until she meets Hannah. Because of her, she is given the strength and courage to open that door and tell the world.

V.L Locey's writing is amazing, she grasps the emotion very well in this book. How the characters felt was never in question. I would have loved more background but when writing a novella you accept there is some "need for more" somewhere.

This is a lovely read with a lot to enjoy.

One of the reasons I love V.L. Locey is that she knows that love is love and that it doesn't matter what those people's genders are, as long as they are consenting adults that is all that matters.

Whitney has always been a little cagey. She is a no bull kind of person, and has a hard time letting people in. Now knowing what her childhood was like, I understand it so much better. This is a story about coming out and being yourself and thankfully, finding the support you were scared you would never find. Hannah plays a huge part in Whitney's decisions even though she wasn't the only reason for them. Really good book.

This is my first f/f book and though the story is short, it gets its point across. I was a little confused with all the names, but it didn't hinder the enjoyment of my read. It's heartwarming and felt very real and gritty. This book deals with a great issue; the courage to be who you are and love who you want, freely, without judgement! Amen! It's hard to think that there are people afraid to be 'out and proud'.

The story follows Whitney, a hockey player, who is hiding her sexuality from everyone! She is terrified of the repercussions, certain she will be ostracized and her life will be ruined. She meets Hannah and is absolutely drawn to her. She finds the courage to announce her sexuality to her team and awaits the fury.... You'll have to read the book to find out how this goes down.

I was left feeling that I should know more of the characters in the story. There were so many names and obvious back stories that I felt I should maybe know. Then I realised that this is book #5 in a series and the penny dropped so I do recommend to read the other books before starting this one.

** Read for Sweet&Spicy Reads**

Welcome back, Venom!!! And they're now in the playoffs!!! What more could wish for our women? Love would be the top of my list and our quick tongued (I mean that in every pun possible) Whitney graves us with her story in this novella. Whitney has something a little different than the rest of our women to date. Whitney, with her hard exterior and snappy comments, just happens to be hiding one of the biggest secrets of her life. Fearing the rebuttal and loss of her career, Whitney hides he sexuality. Being a lesbian in an all women's team isn't easy, let alone hiding.
Whitney's journey is one a lot of people can face. True to form, VL shows us the ugly truth of it, the pain, the fear, the courage. Above all, she takes us along with Whitney as she comes to terms with herself, her team and her new found love interest. Hannah, beautiful and out Hannah, is an art student who completely turn Whitney on her head and gets the privilege of helping her on her new path.
Join our women as they not only battle their way to the top, but also battle their way to a being the best team they can together. I adored Whitney's story. It was a quick read (possibly because I couldn't put it down) but also for blunt truth of what it can be like to spend your whole life hiding such a big part of yourself. Can happiness really be found when you're being completely honest? Will our women still be the well oiled machine they've become when they find out a player has been hiding parts of herself? It's SO worth the read, the Venom never disappoint!
