Eva Thorne #0.5

A Thorne in Time: An Eva Thorne prequel novella

Rate this book
Before Eva Thorne can accept her destiny, she must learn to accept herself. Eva leaves her family behind for boarding school (that’s a good thing when your family includes necromancers and crime lords), but the foreign city of Gernwold has its own dangers. An intruder, a teacher injured, a stolen necklace left in her room… Either someone is trying to frame her, or they know what Eva really is.

In this prequel novella to the Eva Thorne series, enjoy mystery and magic melded with technology, as you explore the Three Kingdoms and meet all the friends who will one day help Eva become the famous (or notorious) detective we know and love her to be.

Just when I thought I'd seen the best of Eva Thorne, the duo of Lorel Clayton continued to impress me with this explosive intro to The Thorne series. Eva the dyed hair Solhan heroine is enigmatic, her and her friend Karoline is formidable and Hazel the ghost simply astounded me.

I love how Eva got her first taste of action in this prequel. I thought nothing else would surprise me when it came to Eva, but with A Thorne in Time, I was in for a big surprise. Love this!

Even though this book was short and moved at a rapid pace, I nevertheless enjoyed delving into Eva Thorne's world again.

This is the first book I have read in Eva Thorne series, well series books came first and this novella came later. I preferred to read first about Eva actually I wanted to decide whether I should read whole series or not; But contrary to what I thought the novella was amazing. Novella is of 66 pages in no time I finished reading.

This was short and fast paced and action filled, just the way I liked it. Lorel Clayton is great!
I would definitely read this series.

When I read the Tangle of Thornes teaser, it piqued my interest, so I went to this freebie prequel. Must have enjoyed it, as I went on to purchase Tangle. Now looking forward to reading the rest of the Eva Thorne novels.

Like Tangle of Thornes, A Thorne in Time is witty and engaging and a great introduction to what is to come.

Wonderful world building! The characters are also fascinating. I'm definitely ready to read more about them and their world. I'd recommend this book to MG and teen readers who enjoy fantasy and dark fantasy, steampunk, and adventure tales.

This is a short fantasy story set in an interesting world that I want to learn more about. The actual story is very light on detail but works well as in introduction to the main series

I loved reading about Eva Thorne before she became the great detective she turns out to become in the series, in this prequel we get to see the young Eva. She is leaving her home in Highcrowne where she lived with her feared uncle and hated nanny, for boarding school. Eva is a Solhan, and it seems these people were seen as different and feared and disliked by most others. She tries to disguise herself by dying her hair, but other Solhans know what she is. She becomes the target of a teacher in the school and her life is very much at risk. Eva is a troublemaker, hates rules, and is not afraid to bend these. But it is thanks to her friends that her first year in Gernwold does not see her dead. She returns home a different young woman to the one who left at the end of the school year which was quiet harrowing. This is a must read prequel, giving us a great setting for the future Eva in the series. As always Lorel's books are a pleasure to read.

A Thorne in Time: An Eva Thorne prequel novella, my first read from author Lorel Clayton and the first book of the Eva Thorne books. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. The book was well-written & flowed smoothly & quickly. I look forward to reading more from this author and in this series. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

“A Thorne in Time” is a thrilling mix of magic, mystery, and just the right amount of danger. Eva is instantly lovable—tough, curious, and carrying more secrets than most people could handle. The city of Gernwold feels alive with intrigue, and every chapter adds another twist that keeps you reading.

This novella sets up the Eva Thorne series perfectly. If you enjoy clever heroines and fantasy worlds full of suspense, you’ll be hooked from page one!

I had gotten this for free from the author's newsletter so I gave it a try while waiting around at the autoshop.

I wasn't keen on the characters, though I found the world marginally intriguing. Just not enough there about who Eva really is.
