This was my first book by Gillian Jones and all I want to say is, WOW! This story and the author's writing style blew me away. The story was captivating, the characters were fantastic, and the flow and style of writing flowed perfectly.
I was a little apprehensive about the book at first. I started the prologue and everything pointed to Kami embarrassing herself, and at the thought of it, my stomach was in knots. I put off reading the book for a few days but I was glad once I actually gave in. I’m happy to report, Kami didn’t embarrass herself too badly.
Kami and Keaton have been friends for a long time. She’s been in love with him for several years, but he’s a player and she’s afraid to put herself out there. Keaton is also in love with Kami, but he thinks she’s too good for him. He uses the other girls to hold her at arms link. So they both settle for friendship.
I loved Kami and Keaton together as friends and as more. They had chemistry and sexual tension that was so palpable, a blind person could see it. They seemed to understand each other better than anyone else. While I thought they were perfect together, they weren’t without their imperfections. They both screwed up, jumped to conclusions, and made mistakes but the making up was nice.
The only problem I had with the story line was Holly. The last time she’s mentioned, she wanted to talk but Keaton kicked her out and never talked to her again. What did she want to talk about?!

What a beautiful journey this book was. This story runs along side Love Won and if you have read that book you will see incidences where this story explains so much but from a different view point. For me this is one of the ultimate story tropes you can read. Best friends older brother, friends to lovers, with characters both being into each other. But totally denying it.
Keaton is a great character, he is caring, protective, loyal and for want of a better word an Idiot. He loves Kami with his all but lets an off the cuff comment by someone, hold him back. He would hang the moon and light the stars for Kami. But pride and fear of not being good enough holds him back.
Kami, God she is brilliant. She is fun, witty and totally gone for Keaton. And has been since he saved and protected her on a bus ride, when she was a little girl. Now don't get me wrong she may be gone for Keaton but she isn't no push over and doesn't let her feeling rule her. She is strong and takes no nonsense.
Kami and Keaton need there heads banging together, they are clearly ment to be, they fight it and more over almost lose each other. There is no blurring of lines or pretending. The world knows and they know they are fated. Now some people might find Keaton an arsehole. But if you truly look at him he is just protective and a little possessive. He doesn't want anyone else to take what he knows is his.
For me Gillian Jones is one of the Queen's of slow burn romances and that's what she does best. She builds the story, sucks you in and then boom, she delivers. She makes you fall for the characters before they fall.
I totally recommend this brilliantly written, friends to lovers, Best friends older brother romance. That will leave you with a happy heart and a huge smile on your face. And laughing hard when they speak of and Kami finally gets her Cockboom!

Lighthearted, fun and sexy read, the brilliance of this story is how well romance, and humor were incorporated.
Kami and Keaton have been friends since forever. They’ve always felt a pull towards more but never acted on it...until they did.
Yes we know this genre, but in this story the characters were well developed and they embarked on a fun, funny and sexy slow burn journey.
Sometimes I need something lighthearted and fun to read and when it’s smart and on point it makes my reading experience that much more enjoyable.

Kami and Keaton have great chemistry, undeniable, best friends. A blind person would be able to see it. I though Keaton was an absolutely dick during most of this book however I still liked him despite this. He's easy to love. The banter and teasing between the two shows how compatible they are. I loved these two together they make sense. This is a slow burn read and I’m not a fan of those, something I found out about myself. But if you enjoy the torturous slow building will they or won’t they slow burn you will love this.

Okay, first of all, I'm gonna need y'all to understand something. I've called dibs on Keaton. So wrap your heads around that before we get started with this review. He's currently my number 1 book boyfriend, and as soon as your pretty little heads wrap around that, I'll begin. Good? Got it? Excellent, let's move on. We met best friends Kami and Keaton in Love Won in 2017. Nearly 2 years later, their EPIC love story is FINALLY here. And it's beyond your wildest dreams.
Story Line: Kami and Keaton are two years apart. He's East's older brother (East's love story is Love Won). So yes, this is a best friend's brother romance. This is also friends to lovers. And at times, an enemies to lovers (this is partially a joke, but kinda not lol) Kami has been head over heals for Keaton for half of her life. And Keaton, sweet overprotective Keaton has been oblivious for the majority of that time. The prologue gives just the tiniest tease as to when the friendly flirting turns to possibly more. And I promise you this, you will be hook, line and sinkered from page 1.
Kami is a school teacher and Keaton owns a tattoo shop. But these best friends always make time for each other (scratch that, ALMOST always...) Whether that be at trivia night at the local pub or early morning runs to train for a local race. The bottom line is, these two function as a couple, without any of the benefits. But don't you worry, it's ALL about to hit the fan in the most delicious, angsty way EVER. I'm using a lot caps words in this review. I think y'all need to understand, I'm IN LOVE with this book. It made my heart flutter, my toes curl and fingers tingle. It's EVERYTHING that was missing from my library. There's so much heated tension between our two main characters, that even though this is a GJ slow burn masterpiece, you will not feel like you missed out on any laundry. TRUST ME.
Interaction: The best part of a friends to lovers romance is that the communication between our hero and heroine is already established and flawless. I want to say they don't play games, yet in a backwards way, they are both playing the game. A game of who will bend first. Who will take the subtle touches or heated stares just a little farther. There were so many almosts in this book. A certain pre morning run scene comes to mind. No, it didn't pan out the way I was hoping, but son of a cake baker, did it leave me heaving and needing a cold shower. Sure, it takes a while for Keaton to break his chains, but when he does? The gloves come off and heat comes up. Oh, and how could I forget my favorite trait of Kami's? Her little phrases killed me. Son of a cake baker is hers. Another I loved was mother of all shittles. She's adorable and I need her to be my bestie too.
Laundry: This is a slow burn. If this is your first GJ read, just know, she loves to build up the angst and the tension before the EXPLOSION. And if you're like, no I need the laundry right away, I beg you to just be patient with this one. This story. These characters. They're incredible. And when they do get down and dirty, it's so worth the wait. Remember how I said he's a tattoo artist? Yeah, there's a scene involving his chair. It will melt your kindle. Seriously.
Depth: There were so many life lessons in this book. Patience, for one. First Love taught me patience as a reader, but it also taught me that you cannot rush love. Kami and Keaton may have been soul mates from an early age, but they needed to experience life, get themselves established as individuals, before their relationship could successfully escalate. Another lesson? Friendship is nearly as powerful as love. Kami and East have a relationship that makes me totally green with envy. It's rock solid. And so is the relationship between Kami and Keaton. Which makes it difficult for someone to make the first move, when there's such an incredible bond on the line. Is it worth risking? I mean, it wasn't my relationship, but even I was encouraging these characters to pump the breaks from time to time. And lastly, this book taught me the power of our words. Words that are said year and years ago can stick with you. They can haunt you in ways you never thought possible. Even if they are said in passing, remember you are good enough. You are strong enough. And never doubt what your heart is telling you.
Thank you Gillian for a story that brought sad tears and happy tears to my eyes on multiple occasions. I love you more for this book and cannot thank you enough for making this story a reality.

Gahhhhh!!!! Let's just take a minute to appreciate the sexiness that is Keaton!! I love a good first love story that has some confusion, angst, flirting, happiness, and everything in between. I love when even the secondary characters touch a part of your soul and make you laugh!! I loved how you could relate to Kami in some way or another. I loved that even though that this was a book about first love that it also showed the strong connection and bond and love of tried and true friendship that can last a lifetime. I loved that I laughed more than I cried in this book!! Even though I thought I was going to have tears running down my face from laughter but don't get it confused because I cried a few times to, Gillian always gets me in the feels. Her writing is just so superb. All I can say is I absolutely loved this book and I highly highly recommend it!!!

I really don’t know where to start! When this author introduces you to characters in one book that then leads onto to another and another, you know your in for a fantastic read x
I loved the relationship of Kami and Keat when we met them in Love one, you knew there was something about them that was unresolved.
They’ve know each other from being so young that it’s hard for them to accept admit and process their hidden feelings. They have Eastlyn stuck in the middle trying to prevent Kami her best friend from being hurt but then she’s making sure her brother is in the right mindset to be ready to go into this inevitable relationship she knows is gonna happen
Make sure you go on this ride with both Kami and Keat x the angst, the flirting and the hotness this couple produce keeps you on edge right through the book
I don’t like leaving spoilers but trust me you need to read it x

Best friends to lovers. Kami and Keaton are best friend. Kami is best friend with Keaton’s sister.
They have a unique friendship and both have been in love with each other for a long time.
It’s a very slow building romance. A lot of push and pull. It’s a fun romance and love the banter between the H and h. Even though I was a little mad at Keaton sometimes, I’m glad he finally got his head out of his behind and claimed Kami.
I can’t wait to read more books of this author.

Move over East and Coy, there’s a new couple in town....I loved Kami and Keaton’s journey. I did find it slow in spots but most of the time is was go go go. There chemistry was a slow burn and once it was lit, it’s was hot hot hot

I am worn out!! That is not a bad thing but good grief I feel like, and since from the description of the book you know that these two love each other, but it took them forever and I do mean up until like seventy some percent of the book for it to happen. This would have been a five star for me if I had got to experience more of Kami and Keaton as a couple and not as best friends. Keaton owns a tattoo shop and is making a name for himself and Kami is a teacher and best friends her whole live with Eastlyn. Keaton and Kami have had a thing for each other since they were young. What your going to experience in most of this book is her trying to get a tattoo and them wanting each other bout refusing in part because of Eastlyn and in another part because they are best friends and just won't pull the trigger. I giggled and enjoyed these characters but man oh man what a long time it took form them to be just where you needed them to be. Gillian Jones does have an amazing writing style and if not for that I don't know that I would have not just given up and laid this book down. I apparently am not a fan of a slow burn....a seventy percent of the book slow burn. It just wears me out and there were to many of the is it going to happen now....ummmm nope disappointments going on.

When I first read the book description of ‘First Love’ is was fascinated. I always love friends to lovers stories. Especially when it’s in the friend of my sister/brother zone. I guess because I was friends with my husbands sister when we met. It just feels familiar and relatable to me. And the cover of this book also definitely spoke to me. ‘First Love’ is the second book in the Winning At Love series, but can be read as a standalone.
In ‘First Love’ we meet Kami Sutherland. Kami has been in love with her best friends brother Keaton for years. And there has always been this chemistry between them. But Kami has been afraid to act on her feelings. What if he doesn’t feel the same? What if she loses her best friend? What is she loses Keaton’s friendship? Instead of admitting her feelings, Kami has been friends with Keaton. But its getting harder and harder to keep her feelings locked.
It took me a while to write this review of ‘First Love’, because I simply didn’t know what my feelings where exactly. From the moment I started reading this book, I couldn’t stop reading. I loved the chemistry between Kami and Keaton. But I also found a lot of things frustrating about them. I just couldn’t figure out if that was a bad or a good thing. So I took my time writing this review. In the end I think it was a good thing I was frustrated with both main characters at times. They were frustrated with themselves too, so it fitted the story.
I really loved Kami and Keaton. And I loved their friendship and the way they interacted with each other. Their chemistry was flying of the pages, and I was hooked to every page. There where so many moments when I thought they would finally come together. The author definitely made me wait a long time, but in a good way. I just wanted Kami and Keaton to come together, but the universe thought different about that and it really took a while. But.. Wow!! This book was definitely giving me all the feelings and I finished the book in two days.

Your first love is one that you never forget. Sometimes that love can transform your entire life.
Kami is the sweetest girl best door. She's achieved most everything she set her mind on and gets to work every day with her best friend. What more could she want in life? Oh yea, her best friend's brother. After years of flirting, and dancing around each other, Kami had all but given up on the idea of her first love being her only love.
Keaton has spent his life doing exactly what he wants generally when he wants. He dates..... a lot. And that's okay because that's how he's always been. Even as a teen, knowing the girl he really wanted was always within reach since it was his sister's best friend, Keaton kept his distance. As they got older, Kami stayed around and Keaton couldn't help but get close, just not as close as he would like. Can he be the man Kami deserves?
I waited so long for this story, I instantly adored Kami and Keaton. Their story is set over the same timeline as Love Won which gave such a cool look into their relationship before getting the full story (although you definitely don't have to have read Love Won first). Kami is the sweetest girl best door. She's achieved most everything she set her mind on and gets to work every day with her best friend. What more could she want in life? Oh yea, her best friend's brother. After years of flirting, and dancing around each other, Kami had all but given up on the idea of her first love being her only love.
Keaton has spent his life doing exactly what he wants generally when he wants. He dates..... a lot. And that's okay because that's how he's always been. Even as a teen, knowing the girl he really wanted was always within reach since it was his sister's best friend, Keaton kept his distance. As they got older, Kami stayed around and Keaton couldn't help but get close, just not as close as he would like. Can he be the man Kami deserves?
I waited so long for this story, I instantly adored Kami and Keaton. Their story is set over the same timeline as Love Won which gave such a cool look into their relationship before getting the full story (although you definitely don't have to have read Love Won first). I loved Love Won and couldn't wait for this second book in the series featuring Kami and Keaton, Eastlyn's brother and best friend. These two have been circling each other for years and I couldn't wait to see how their story played out.
Kami is such a wonderful character, she is fun, witty, loyal, charming and has a huge heart. Keaton is very protective of both his sister and Kami and can really come across as a jackass when he is in his "big brother" mode. But he is a fierce friend and incredibly loyal. These two had chemistry that was undeniable if only Keaton could get his head out of his ass and get on the same page as Kami. While this book had a great deal of angst, their banter made it worth it. Keaton was a dick for a lot of the book, but when you find out why it all makes sense.
I just loved Kami's outlook on life and her drive and determination. While she may have been in love with Keaton for most of her life she has never let it consume her entire world.
Gillian write such wonderful characters and I really enjoyed this one.

This is the first book of from this author that I have read and I truly enjoyed it. At first I wasn't 100% sure what I was getting myself into but in the end I loved every word.
Kami has also be in love with Keaton. The only problem is she is not sure how he feels or even if he would feel the same. Kami is a strong independent, young women, that knows what she wants and isn't always afraid to go after it. Her goal is to get what she wants from Keaton but he stops her every chance he can. However, when it comes to her feelings she isn't always the strongest person.
Keaton is a strong, aplha type of man. That is until he starts to realize his true feeling to his sister best friend, Kami. Kami isn't just his sisters best friend but also one of his best friends. When he starts realize his true feelings he will do anything to get what he really wants.
Overall, this book had ups and downs between the characters which helped with the story line. I can't wait to see what Gillian Jones comes up with next.

I have been dying for Kami and Keatons story since meeting them in Love Won.
I knew then that they were meant to be, but it was going to be all kinds of complicated getting them there.
You will want to scream at them and they'll have you wanting to pull your hair out at times but OMG it's impossible not to fall head over heels for cheeky Keaton and crazy Kami, I loved this chick hard.
If you love a good friends to lovers story then this ones definitely for you.
It's an addictive nail biting slow burning love story that's full of angst, drama
and witty humour. I was cry laughing at some of the antics between these two.

Kami and Keaton has shared so much together since they've known each other about that long. They've had feelings for each other about that long too. Keaton doesn't feel like he's good enough and Kami is getting sick of waiting for him.
Keaton can be so sweet and their texts back and forth are hilarious in places. He wants her but can he have her and keep her? Kami is tired of waiting for him to make a move. Her sister tells her to make her move or get off the pot. Is Kami going to do that even though that can ruin everything?
These two are super hot together but it's such a SLOW burn. There were times I wanted to smack Keaton and give him the same advice that Kami was getting. Their families were fun and loving too. Is Kami finally going to give up or she is going to tell Keaton how she really feels?

Not only is this book about her and Keaton, but some of our other favorite characters as well. The chase is on for McCoy and Eastlyn. When he comes back into town, absolute mayhem follows. Even if it’s not permanent. Or is it? The sexual tension in this book between the characters is out of this world. It’s crazy funny, super sweet, intense and all around an amazing read. Each chapter gaining momentum for what’s to come. Absolutely Inkcredible. I really enjoyed reading this book. These characters are so amazingly well written. The story is one of my top 5 for this year.

Gahhhhh!!!! Let's just take a minute to appreciate the sexiness that is Keaton!! I love a good first love story that has some confusion, angst, flirting, happiness, and everything in between. I love when even the secondary characters touch a part of your soul and make you laugh!! I loved how you could relate to Kami in some way or another. I loved that even though that this was a book about first love that it also showed the strong connection and bond and love of tried and true friendship that can last a lifetime. I loved that I laughed more than I cried in this book!! Even though I thought I was going to have tears running down my face from laughter but don't get it confused because I cried a few times to, Gillian always gets me in the feels. Her writing is just so superb. All I can say is I absolutely loved this book and I highly highly recommend it!!! - By Tina

Kami and Keaton have some serious OMG hot tamale moments let me tell you. But it is a slow burn that will have you feeling all warm and fuzzy one moment and all hot and bothered the next.
"God, this girl gets my blood going every time she looks my way."
I freaking loved getting to see these two try to figure out if their relationship would ever move beyond friends and it was exhilarating. Both of them thought they were being so slick and smooth in keeping their true feelings under wraps but it was all too easy for everyone around them to see what was right in front of their faces.
"It's his words, his touch, it's everything that he is, it's what affects me like no one else ever has or ever will. Plain and simple, it's him."
Did I say I loved it? Oh yeah I LOVED IT!!!!!
Added bonus East and Coy. Gawd I missed this world so much and now we get to immerse ourselves in it again.

This book was fantastic. It was great to see some of the major parts of Love Won thru Kami and Keaton's perspective. And it was great to see the things that Kami and Keaton experienced through the same time line as Love Won. I was excited but nervous for this book because of this book being the same time line as the other book BUT it was done fantastically and well written. I love Kami, she is a spitfire and you can't help but love her. Keaton is amazing in his own right, strong and creative, overprotective but loving. He is just amazing. Loved this book and can not wait to see what is next from this author!!!

It’s always a delight when a new book by this author is released, you never know just what will be ahead; a story full of angst or perhaps a light hearted romance? Such is the brilliance of this writer that she can produce quality stories in a multitude of tropes and genres. This is a lighter romance with the emphasis on fun!
Kami Sutherland and Keaton Hatfield are best friends but feel a lot more than that towards each other, both denying their true feelings.
Talk about a slow burn romance, any slower and I was going to kick both Kami and Keaton’s rear ends! 😂 Although theirs is the age old valued friendship versus chance at a romantic relationship issue which is a huge gamble.
Fun banter and teasing between the characters makes this a light book that is easy to read and leaves you chuckling and with a smile on your face. The characters are easy to relate to and like, even if the guys do tend to tease the girls! There isn’t one character who isn’t likeable, oh well except for Holly and Barry but then she’s just deluded and he’s just a braggart.
Another great read by this author I totally recommend to everyone.

If I had only one word to describe this book it would be " Magical" I cannot express how much I Loved it!! Kami and Keaton are a perfect match and their story was so incredibly well-written. I loved the banter between the two and the late night texts. This book had everything you want in a book: laugher , heart break, make up. Sexy alpha hero and smart sassy female hero. Kami is intelligent, sexy , funny and a smart*** . Keaton is sexy inked perfection . He makes you want to shake him and slap him up side the head then turn around and hug him. This book deserves 10 stars . It's definitely one of my favorite reads for this year.

These two made me smile s lit, and at times I wanted to scream at them, just a little bit lol...they certainly take their time and slow burn kind of story make me want to shout it out lol.

Gillian Jones knows how to make you swoon and she definitely succeeding in doing it once again with this slow burn storyline.
Kami and Keaton share a beautiful friendship but when lines get blurred and friendship turns into something more, they cannot deny their pull towards one another. Their chemistry is off the charts and their banter definitely keeps that cheeky smile planted on my face throughout this story.
I do love slow burn stories but I’m so impatient and need them to collide together with an explosive release, but this read will definitely keep those candles burning bright, right to the very end.

What can I say other than Gillian has devastated me with this book. We knew there was feelings between Kami and Keaton we just never knew the depths of their feelings. These two are so perfect for each other that’s it’s hard to watch them struggle with their emotions and and not let the other know. The Dud Muffin and the Hellcat... what a fantastic story!
If there was ever a time when two people needed to listen to their hearts instead of their heads and the voices of others, this is it! I've never wanted to shake the crap outta someone like I wanted to do with Keaton and Kami. Everyone can see they belong together... EVERYONE!! Except for those two of course.
I loved the banter, the attraction, the late night texts, the coffee mugs... Son-of-a-cake-baker it was INKredible!
Gillian Jones can tell a story that keeps you turning the pages! I am happy to read whatever she writes, knowing I'm going to love it!

Gillian Jones makes it so easy to fall in love with her words! This is a slow burn romance but definitely worth it! I loved Kami and Keaton and couldn’t wait for them to finally admit their feelings for each other. And once they do wholly heck is it worth the wait!

Childhood romance bloomed, sister gets into his head. The chemistry and attraction between Kami and Keaton is so tense. The story unfolds in ways that make you squirm and squeal then cry out in pain cause your heart is broken too. Eastlyn and McCoy have some serious comp in the frustration dept here. Thank you Jillian this point of view not only gave us the Kami❤️Keaton story but more of Eastlyn and McCoy and I loved that!

Well, Kami is a saint. A long suffering, absolute saint for being so patient with Keaton, and she's loved him for SO LONG! The poor girl - she is SO in love with her best friend's brother, but just doesn't have the confidence to go after what she wants. So instead she has to settle for being best friends with Keat, made just that bit harder for her by a little bit of flirting between them, and the occasional subtle touch that makes her burn for more.
I loved the occasions where Kami stood up for herself, I was cheering hard for her to be strong and move on, make Keat realise what he was missing out on by not pursing a relationship with her when it was clear he had such strong feelings. Keat was such a frustrating character at different times throughout the story. I was so happy to have the dual POV - I really wanted to know what was holding him back and why.
