Electric Heart is Book 7 in the Dark Planet Warriors Series. It will make more sense if you've read the other books in the series beforehand. Chronologically, it picks up where Forged in Shadow (Book 5) left off.

Riana's terrified of these fierce Kordolians. They fight like demons and possess strange alien technology which makes them damn hard to kill. After her nerve-wracking experience on the superfreighter Hendrix II, she wants nothing to do with them.
All she wants to do is live a peaceful Kordolian-free life back on Earth.
Too bad the Board of Corrections is on her case over past misdemeanors.
Too bad someone's trying to kill her. She has no idea why.
Too bad the only one who can keep her safe is a scary-hot, silent alien with coldfire eyes and a very sharp sword.
But hey, at least she doesn't have to deal with flesh-eating insectoid monsters anymore. The only monster she has to deal with now is a silver-skinned one named Kail.
And he's more than a match for her attackers. That's reassuring... right?

Warning: This book is a science-fiction alien romance. It contains swearing, violence, sensual sex scenes, and silver aliens with fangs. It's definitely recommended for readers aged 18 and over.

Very good alien romance series!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙❤️💚💜
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌍
Character development: 😊😅🤨😔
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Solo Narration

The heroine: Riana - she was a hacker who was caught ended up in the offender enlistment program had enlisted on Fortuna Tau as a peacekeeper. Though she lived through a nightmare of killer alien bugs and 7-foot-tall ebony clad silver warriors. After she was evacuated from Fortuna Tau, she ended up on a doomed freighter. She now had returned to earth and was told she had failed to meet the requirements of her service because she was one day short. She now has to serve another year of being tracked and watched by the Federation.

The Hero: Kail - He is a Kordolian known as the hunter, the bringer of justice. He was a tracker, a spy and sometimes an executioner. He is now working on Earth hunting the alien bugs called Zargek. He always works alone, and he hates humans. He can’t understand why some of the males he works with have gotten human mates. Though he did like the way the small female on the freighter looked at him when they were both on the freighter together.

The Story: Kail is tasked to do a job where he needs to protect Riana because she is the one hacker who can help do something they needed. They end up traveling across the Sahara. Kail is a fearsome warrior who often works on his own and is often able to take down a bunch of humans at a time despite being shot by their bolt guns. While Riana is soft and didn’t like it when he killed, so she often demanded he let their opponents go without killing them.

I did like the story. It was a journey and I like those types of stories where the two main characters go from place to place while falling for each other. I also like the fact that the Kordolians are so strong and nearly indestructible. They also have some cool tech, like the nanites that come out of them to create a suit of armor that protects them better than almost any type of armor humans could create.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Jillian Macie. I generally dislike any audiobooks that don’t have dual or duet narration, though I do really like Jillian Macie, she has a great voice and is terrific at showing emotion through her voice. She always does a terrific job and the same was true for this book.

What the hell?! Why do we keep getting stories that are BEFORE the last one? It is just filler and frustrating. Kain was one dimensional in prior books and barely got above that in this one. Raina was not someone I liked in prior books either. so here we go again with two MCs I could care less about.

I ended up liking Kain but he was no Tarak or Ry or Kalan. Just had too little personality. Still did not like Raina. Too scared and way too soft. She kept making him let the bad guys go. What a stupid idiot! No clue how she managed to survive since she could be so dumb! Neither MC liked each other when they met. Raina was terrified of him and Kain thought she was a stupid human. They would have never seen each other again if Arin had not offered to help Raina and convinced her to join up with them. I prefer my PNR stories to have more of an "instant" or real connection.

That being said, the non romance story was good! It saved the mediocre MCs.

I hope the author moves forward with the overall story next time.

This series is a lot of science fiction fantasy fun. I love the taciturn hero and the heroine who is more than she seems.

The fight scenes are super hero awesome. The plot of this one is a bit more muddled in times of the series timeline and the villains but it is still fun and very hot with our hacker heroine and super warrior alien hero.

4.5 Electric Kordolian Stars

Goodness, I love these Kordolian Warriors from Kythia. Who doesn't love when a total bad ass falls head over heals for you. In this installment we find out finally who blew up Fortuna Tao the mining asteroid where it all began. I can't wait to find out which warrior falls next.

Erin's friend from the station, Riana gets put under Kail's guard. Neither is too happy about it, but it turns out that it's in the nick of time, as someone wants Riana dead.
Kail was an interesting character. He's like the other fearsome Kordolians, but his background is rather mystical.
Riana has some trouble with anxiety but is determined to not let it hinder her life. It wasn't a big part of the story thankfully. She's a super hacker with a kinda Robinhood background.
Together they manage to ferret out the villains who tried to blow up Fortuna Tau.

Although I really liked the MCs, I found the ending (and a few other parts of the story) quite frustrating. People would be standing around talking or being polite when action was needed and you just knew that their inaction would lead to their mission's failure.

It wasn't entirely failure, but it wasn't satisfying either. SO I was happy I read it, but it won't be my favourite even if Kail is the most interesting Kordolian since the General imo.

safety is fine.

Meh. Reading Order reminder: Bk 1,4,5,7,2,3,4.5,6,8.

It's a return to the imbalance between the hero and heroine, which I didn't love. Riana was more damsel than badass, and the things she's supposed to bring to the table to make me believe in any equality between her and Kain is pretty nonexistent. Her strength is different from the others (again a plus in my book), and she's an awkward hacker heroine, which is normally my fave. Towards the end, you get to see a little more of that ingenuity, but most of the book she's just being saved by Kain. As for him, precious little time was spent defining Kain's personality beyond grumpy hero. Very little time is spent fleshing out feelings or building any emotional connection between them. As a result, the HEA is weaker for it.

Side note: Riana's a woman of color, a departure from the earlier heroines, which I loved seeing, but you'd only know it by reading descriptions of her and it's never addressed. Missed opportunities abound here.

Now, when the romance has been weak, at least I've enjoyed the worldbuilding and the action. Unfortunately, even that felt more muted, and by the end of the story, I didn't feel as if anything had been really added to the overarching storyline that I couldn't have gotten from other books in the series.

I'm pretty deep into the series now, so it's onto the next, but this isn't a fave and I'd venture to say an easy to skip entry. Just my two pennies.

A silver-elf-alien 3.5 stars.

Wow- found another alien-hero author I enjoy!

I was a bit bummed when I realised I had finished all of Ruby Dixon's Ice Planet, Corsair and dragons books- how was I going to feed my weird alien obsession? And why do I have one? (Are earthmen really so blah that I need an ET to woo me??)

Yes, know, I started with No 7 in this series, but looking at the blurbs this one appealed to me the most, so I read it first. Just to test it. (There is just so much bad schlock out there in this genre.)

I'll make this short. A fun read and a nicely done world-creation. Sexy, hot alien male with strong human female. Certainly warmed me up on a long, cold Melbourne afternoon. And although the f- bomb was dropped a few times (do nice girls really beg a guy to "fuck me"?) the author avoided my pet hate, the one Ruby Dixon is so fond of- yup, the c-word. So another plus for me.

It was also a nice change to have the aliens as the advanced race and the humans seen as primitive and backward by them. Do wonder why these aliens always seem to have an extra little something about their man parts- blue barbarians have a conveniently placed (for women) "spur", these aliens are ribbed on top. Mmmmm......

So am I going back to number one and working my way through?

Bring on those (evil) silver elves!

Another satisfying installment to this series. I did enjoy the hero and heroine both in this read. However, I wanted more in the sense of them communication to one another. I don't think either of them ever truly used the phrase "i love you" to each other. I get that both of these characters were somewhat of introverts and worked alone, but I wanted more communication between them as a couple. It felt like something was missing between them. It would have made their relationship have a more solid feel to it if they had simply shared their emotions. It was still a good read and I look forward to more.

This 7th entry into the Dark Planet Warriors world(s) brings back front and center the harsh cruelty of the Kordolians. These are the tough guys you want on your side, because they are Scary, with a capital "S." They are the ultimate predators of the universe, and this book gives us plenty of opportunities to see why. Here are just three examples:
1) "Kail snarled. These Humans did not understand their place in the Universe. They were about to learn.
2) And now he was panicking, because a landsider like him who had probably never been past Earth’s exosphere had failed to understand that there were much bigger, badder things in the Universe than Humans, and Earth was really only just a tiny speck in the grand scheme of things.
3) “I will come for you,” he said quietly, “and I will end you in the worst way imaginable.”

There was a lot I liked about the Kail / Riana pairing in this book. As always, the stoic Kordolian is caught off guard by his regard for a lowly human, and then the desire and dedication set in, and then he's a goner. I loved how the skin of Riana's laid back, not-so-bright persona was peeled off and we got to see this talented, tech-minded do-gooder. She was a lot of fun and inspiring. And I LOVED how the beat of Riana's heartbeat or the sound of her pulse totally calmed Kail and brought him back from the ledge time and time again. I think that was my favorite "little touch" in this book and Carven introduced that facet of attraction and tenderness multiple times in different ways. Mmmm Mmmm good.

The reason, however, that I wavered between three and four stars for this story, was related to the lack of detail in Kail's backstory. I never felt like I understood his scars, his mysticism, the nearly psychic connection to Riana. I get that the memory wipe on these guys is the reason, but it leaves the story feeling incomplete. In the end, though, I changed my initial 3 stars to 4 stars because I enjoyed the couple so much.

Electric Heart by Anna Carven is a tension-filled, alien warrior romance tale that gets better and better. What ensues is mayhem, chaos, action, sexy, sizzling, tension, and much more. If you like sci-fi romance, then look no further.

Humans now back on earth find their lives turned upside down when the big bad Kordolians land some for the better, others for the worse. Rianna has a target on her head. The federation want her dead but he has sworn to keep her safe.

His mate is more than he first thought. Those responsible will pay and should be scared because no -one crosses this hardened warrior, and no stands in the way from him and his mate. He will stop at nothing to protect his mate.

"Revenge." The way he said it, as if it were a regular, everyday occurrence, like breakfast or taxes, sent a chill down her spine. "We Kordolians do not take attempts to kill us lightly."

This started out strong, wobbled a bit in the middle, got stronger again . . . and then had a very, very weak ending. I wish I'd liked it more because I was highly interested in Kail's story, but alas. Still chugging away at the series though since overall it's yet to lose my appreciation and the general world-building is fun and fascinating.

So disappointed that I didn't like this one more. I really found Mail to be an interesting character, but I wasn't a fan of Riana. She went straight from I'm scared of you! to My mate! that I may have whiplash. I also didn't enjoy this story as much as I have previous.

I enjoyed Riana and Kail's story. There was lots of action but the ending fell a little flat for me.

Riana's "nerdy" ways and dark-web capabilities are impressive. It's nice to see a heroine appreciated for her brains and skills.

Kail was a hard nut to crack and it took me a while to warm up to him. His decision about Riana is taken quite suddenly...a little insta-love.

Ever since the invasion by the Kordolians of the mining station Fortuna Tau Riana has been afraid of the scary aliens. But not as scared as she was of the cockroack like Xargek who want to eat every lifeform they come in contact with in the galaxy. Riana finds the Kordolians handsome despite their otherworldliness.

The Kordolians First Division has been battling the Zargek who were discovered to have a hive below the sands in Egypt within some catacombs near the pyramids. The First Division has set up their base nearby in order to eradicate the Xargek hive.

After returning to Earth Riana discovers that she has been targeted for assassination. Her former CO on the Fortuna Tau, Arin calls her and learns of the assassination attempt. Rykal, the temporary Kordolian in charge of the First Division and his human mate Arin have decided that it's best that First Division member Kail becomes Riana's bodyguard and helps her to find who has put the hit out on her.

Kail finds the humans annoying and cannot understand why his brother in arms, Rykal is in love with one.

While making their way through Africa and Europe to get the information needed Kail and Riana face more troubles and find themselves attracted to each other.

Together Kail and Riana infiltrate the  underground beneath the London Underground to find a data port and use the Dark Web to find out who's behind the  assassination plan.

I loved the chase scenes in the desert and in the London Underground. They would have been awesome to see on film. There was a lot of action and danger.

There's plenty of smexy scenes to make it R rated.

Well, hell.

As much as I enjoyed getting back into this series with the last book, Forged in Shadow, I felt let down by this next installment.

I hate it when my expectations get too high.

Carven does a decent job here, but nothing that knocks this out of the ballpark for me. The action is Earth-side, with mysterious, shadowy organizations and Darkweb info hacking. Our heroine, Riana, is a wilting pansy who constantly needs a rescue and an inhaler (I threw in that last part, but you know what I mean). And our badass alien, Kain. Well, we never really get to understand him, or his background, or why he thinks our wilting pansy is so special.

Where the hell is the spacebug alien infestation? What does this story have to do with an electric heart? Does Riana need a pacemaker?

On to the next story. . . .

Riana’s story won me over
Overall 5 out of 5 stars
Performance 4 out of 5 stars
Story 5 out of 5 stars

Love smart savvy quiet intelligent Riana. She knew when to play her cards close. She kept her head down and moved forward. But know of that helped her when she returned to earth and resumes her life. Someone was out to get her and none of the traditional safeguards was going to help her. She needed otherworldly protection. Kail comes in to the picture but he had his own way about things. These two had more in common than either would have guessed. They run for her life and seeking the truth may cost them both their life but it was one full journey.

Narration was just a backdrop to the story and allowed for it to play smoothly across my mind.

Serious action!

If it wasn't for the typos this would be a 5 star book. The characters, the action, the plot, the supporting characters... all brilliant! Just get a better editor or a beta reader with some decent proof-reading skills next time. That said, the story was too good to let the errors put me off. I'm gonna be so sad when I get to the end of this series :( 10 First Division warriors and I'm on Book 7... sigh...

Good pair

Riana is a bit different than the other women. She deals with anxiety and panic attacks so she has a harder time with her fear. However it just means she is even more brave to do what she does. Kail is pretty different too. He has the temanjin inside him that compels him to give out justice. I was hoping we would learn about his past like the other males. Either way he was the most stubborn about needing to kill people. Together they pair up well.

This one dragged a bit, and didn’t feel nearly as fast paced. Maybe because I didn’t particularly ship this couple? Riana was a little flat, after 300 pages I don’t really have much sense of her personality or this secret past of dark web conspiracy that she was apparently part of? She’s supposedly a bad ass hacker and good at playing stupid? But we’re mostly told that, not really shown. She had her cool moments, but she kind of just turned into Kail’s woman. Kail was mostly just grumpy and horny. It was still a fun read, but not as dynamic as the books before.

3 stars for the first half
1 star for the second half

Book #4 in the confusingly numbered series is my least favorite. I originally DNF'd it, but tried it again after rereading books 1 - 3. I still don't care for it. I read half and then skimmed & skipped to the end.

The writing seems overly complicated, mixing technical details with ornate language. I prefer a straightforward style that is easier to read and remember.

💔 The romance fell flat for me. I couldn’t feel any chemistry between the MCs and found myself skipping their ill-timed sex scenes. It didn’t make sense to be intimate while on the run, whether out in the open or in a hired vehicle. The MCs develop a bond after blood is shared, which creates a connection with no need for love. Case in point, no "I-love-yous" are ever said.

The whole plot centers around which group on Earth is behind everything that happened up until this point. I'll share that info. below in a spoiler tag, for those who want to know without having to read this overly long, overly intricate disappointment.

The story takes place on Earth, which is strictly controlled by the Federation. People are given a "Morality Quotient" which is like a credit score. Think 'China' and you'll understand how awful it is to live on the planet.

Riana's infotech skills are needed to find the group/people behind the conspiracy.
Kail is the Kordolian who's sent to protect Riana and help her find the truth.

What makes Kail unique: He needs little sleep. He's the Temanjin, the Hunter, the truth seeker, the bringer of justice. Under General Tarak’s orders, he’d been a tracker, retriever, spy, and occasionally, an executioner. He was very good at what he did. The other Kordolians call him, 'Dark One.' He likes to work alone, doesn't talk much and fights like a demon.

For some reason, he had a knack for getting others to co-operate, and he could easily differentiate a lie from truth. Kail sensed things that others didn’t. He’d always been that way.

He has intriciate markings, ritual scars that swirled across his face, neck, arms, and back.

A big part of the story follows Kail and Riana as they escape from the Federation and bounty hunters chasing the billion-credit bounty on her head. Kail gets shot frequently, but unlike other Kordolians, his nanites don’t seem to need food to heal his injuries.

😬 Riana is annoying b/c she doesn't want anyone to be killed. It's mentioned repeatedly. Kail has to change his nature to make her happy.

Early on, Kail thinks - The instinct to hunt, fight, and kill was part of their nature, and it couldn’t be suppressed.
At 94%: The beast wanted to kill them all. Riana’s presence held it at bay.

Halfway through: ▪️“Regardless of what you might think, the best way to fight is by gun and sword.”
▪️Riana shook her head. “I can’t agree with you there. The whole point of a bloodless fight is to preserve lives.”
▪️Kail nodded. “I know. But I’m not interested in preserving lives. That is not how we fight.”
“Idealism is a luxury,” he continued, gently stroking her soft skin. “I am glad you have it, but it is not a trait I can afford to share. Death is the only certainty I can offer. Anything less would be dangerous for you and unsatisfactory for me.”

▪️“I can help you find the people who tried to kill us on Fortuna Tau. Just promise me you won’t kill anyone who doesn’t deserve it.”
▪️I’m not averse to fighting my way past these so-called Enforcers if the need arises.”
▪️“You’re not going to do that,” Riana said abruptly...

72%: ▪️Please try and limit the collateral damage. I’d rather you didn’t kill anybody who doesn’t deserve it.”
▪️“I can’t promise that.”
▪️She sighed. “Just try. Killing isn’t always the best way to solve a conflict.”
▪️But death was final. That was why it was Kail’s preferred form of justice. It wasn’t in the nature of Kordolians to compromise.

In the 2nd half, the MCs travel to a place where Riana can access the Darkweb to find out who's behind the bombings, mercenaries and the bounty on her head.

78%: ▪️Kail shrugged. “Just tell me who I need to kill.”
▪️“I don’t mean for you to kill anyone.” Riana was aghast.

He ran, and she let him go. After all, she didn’t really want Kail to harm him.

The only thing standing between Marie and good old-fashioned Kordolian ruthlessness was Riana. Somehow, she’d become Kail’s moral compass; his humanity.

▪️“She has wronged you. Shall I get rid of her? I would be honored to execute revenge on your behalf.” Kail was an ominous presence at her side.
▪️What the f*ck? “Kail, no!”

Riana was an idealist. She’d prefer a bloodless form of justice, if such a thing were possible.

(R) ▪️“Where’s Marie?”
(K) ▪️“She isn’t going anywhere.” His eyes turned frosty. “She will not bother us.”
▪️“You haven’t… done anything bad to her, have you?”
▪️“No. You need to have a little more faith in me, my clever Human.”
▪️“Just making sure.”

88% (R) “We’re taught to value life, even though we constantly screw that up.”
(K) “I value your life.”

The man behind it all:

Thanks to Riana, Kail doesn't get his revenge.

The reason they wanted Riana dead:
