Not at all tempted by Jake's character, April 8, 2017
I received an Advance Reader Copy for Tempted written by Anna Wild and voluntarily reviewed this book. Ex-Marine Captain Jake Isaccs left the military behind after a dangerous mission costs him the life of fellow Marine, Allison Barnes, his love of ten years. He relocates to a mountain-region town, and opens up a bar, also named after her. There, many women are interested in this new stranger, but none really interest him until one night, Deputy Sheriff Holly Hutchinson catches him at a particularly vulnerable moment, but he could not reciprocate at that moment because of his guilt and his love for Allison. Later, they do cautiously begin a relationship. However, a definite crimp in that plan occurs, followed by other events, which makes it hard to continue on as they were.
The storyline includes some twists, which do add interest to the plot, but I honestly could not get behind Jake's character, who vacillates so much between what he thinks and what he does, and as well, much to my dismay and a little regret for Holly's sake, between both women as well. His character, all said and done, was not one I consider possessing qualities attributable to a strong male. Although I could very much empathize with his past experiences, and I do understand his long history with Allison, I was almost cringing in places when I read how he was handling situations with both women.
