Two loves dominated my life : Allison, who I’d loved since we were kids, and the Marine corp. I wanted to be a Marine, and as soon as I was 18, I was in – and so was Allison, right by my side. Always by my side until THAT the one that took her from me. The one that tore out my heart… the one that made the ring I had ready to give nothing. I knew something had gone wrong with that mission, but my superiors wouldn’t give me any answers, so I left. I couldn’t take the pain, so I headed to the peacefulness of the mountains, to the small town of Adams. Sure, it’s a lot different than Boston, but that’s exactly what I need. It’s pure. It’s peaceful. Life’s quieter there. The locals are friendly. So, I built a bar, and they love it. There’s never been a bar like mine in the small town of Adams. Lots of beautiful women flirt with me, but none of them can reach me until one night, the only woman that could breach my defenses she sees my pain, puts a balm on my soul, begins to rescue my heart, gives me belief in love again, my angel... can she save me?
Holly
He blew into town – all rage and pain in his eyes. He thought no one could see, but I could. I think I fell for him right away, but knowing how the wounded respond, I just became part of the landscape in that bar he built. All of those other women flirting with him never bothered me, because I could see that it only bothered him. None of them stood a chance. But around me, he began to calm. We would exchange a few words here and there; and the longer I focused on him, the more I fell. I knew I was doomed to love and have not, until one night, the storm outside, matched the storm inside him. I saw his pain, and went to help … and he let me. But will he really let me in all the way?

Not at all tempted by Jake's character, April 8, 2017
I received an Advance Reader Copy for Tempted written by Anna Wild and voluntarily reviewed this book. Ex-Marine Captain Jake Isaccs left the military behind after a dangerous mission costs him the life of fellow Marine, Allison Barnes, his love of ten years. He relocates to a mountain-region town, and opens up a bar, also named after her. There, many women are interested in this new stranger, but none really interest him until one night, Deputy Sheriff Holly Hutchinson catches him at a particularly vulnerable moment, but he could not reciprocate at that moment because of his guilt and his love for Allison. Later, they do cautiously begin a relationship. However, a definite crimp in that plan occurs, followed by other events, which makes it hard to continue on as they were.
The storyline includes some twists, which do add interest to the plot, but I honestly could not get behind Jake's character, who vacillates so much between what he thinks and what he does, and as well, much to my dismay and a little regret for Holly's sake, between both women as well. His character, all said and done, was not one I consider possessing qualities attributable to a strong male. Although I could very much empathize with his past experiences, and I do understand his long history with Allison, I was almost cringing in places when I read how he was handling situations with both women.
I'm tempted alright... I'm tempted to get this guy... Just look at this cover... Dayum.. Hot guy indeed. Another book that made me sweat lol. Almost melted me... Anna Wild's writing is simple, intense and heartfelt. The story unfolds nor only raw but smoothly at the same time and because of that I wanted to keep reading and reading without stopping. Tempted tells Jake's story. Jake is a Marine Captain that loves his job. He's responsible for taking down one of the moat wanted men, a terrorist. He's a lider and a warrior and doesn't runaway from a fight. On that mission he lost the love if his life, his best friend, the woman that he was about to propose and after that he wasn't the same. He seek revenge, he needed to know and find out who was the snitch and he couldn't continue as a Marine anymore or live in the same apartment. He just needed to get away from everyone and everything. Can he overcome this? Can he be happy again? Well to much had passed, to many changes, to many conflicts. I liked this story very much. It was raw, intense and super hot. The characters interact very good with each other and the story unfolded smoothly. There were parts that I was so so angry but there were others that my heart could settle down. I always lived a military story and this was was hot.
I received an ARC of this book and I voluntarily chose to review it. I loved the book. I couldn't put the thing down. There were some surprises, I don't do spoilers, so you will have to read the book to see what I am talking about. This is the first book of Anna Wild I have read but it will not be the last. Story was well written. I encourage everyone to go get this one, it's worth your time and effort.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. I hoped I would like this book more than I actually did. The story and characters disappointed me.
The main storyline is choppy and a little confusing because of the subplots. It is as if they are each vying for dominance in the book. Is it about the ex-Marine and his new love interest? Is it about the ex-girlfriend playing games to get her man back? Is it the about the murder of an Officer who had a gambling date? Is it about the Marine who quit, putting some closure on his military career? Is this about the MC from the area?
The characters (this is where there spoilers - sorry) especially Jake, the ex-Marine who now owns a bar on the mountain is in my opinion hypocritical. He swears to Holly, after she has photographic evidence of Jake and Allison together, that he would never get back with Allison after her lie and betrayal, and yet he does. Jake walks away "forever" when Holly doesn't believe him. I understand that Jake and Holly had broken up when it happens but, he promises Holly is would never happen...ever. He does not feel remorseful or in wrong that in essence he lied to Holly. Then, he never divulges that bit of information to her when they reconcile. Obviously, this is a sensative topic to me. Holly, on the other hand, one-should have trusted Jake, two-realized that the photo was fake considering she picked up on the fake loan shark spreadsheet. This contradicts what you know about Holly up to this point. Don't get me started on Allison. She is just the worst kind of woman. The only upstanding character that I like is Clay the leader of the MC. He is a true and loyal friend to Jake.
Overall, after you have finish the book the concept plot is good but I felt a bit let down with HEA because of the huge unspoken truth between Jake and Holly about Allison that takes away from it.
Anna Wild outdid herself once again. The beginning of this story broke my heart Jake and Allison were on a mission, both being Marines. They are both leaders of their group but when they descend down from the chopper, their mission was compromised and Allison was killed. Jake and Allison have been friends for many years and in a relationship for about the last 10, so this hit him very hard. So he left the marines for the mountains. Jake buys a bar and meets some really great people and all the woman love and flirt with him. Holly is no exception. She is a deputy for their town and she drops hints here and there but Jake just ignores them just like all of the others. Even 3 years after losing Allison he is still not over the loss. When he goes on the terrace during a storm and thinks about her, Holly finds him there. She does something that no other female has ever done for him and shows him compassion and it makes him realize how much he likes it and her. One thing leads to another and after a few days they decide to start seeing each other. Their relationship is going well then one night Allison walks into his bar along with another man from the Marines. Things go crazy from there and the story of all involved is a great read. You have life, relationships, love, mystery, drama and so much more. You are going to want to read this for yourself. I am not one to give away the whole story or the ending. I myself wouldn't want to read a review like that. Believe me when I say you get wrapped up in this book so much that you won't want to put it down until you are done. It's well written with great characters and storyline. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.
I received this book as an ARC so I felt a need to finish it even though I didn't like it. I didn't want to rate it a 1 or 2 star because I felt my opinion was tainted by my dislike of so much explicit sex. This book is definitely XX rated. I felt like a peeping Tom with so much description about what was being put where and how it felt. It could be very titillating if that's what you like to read. I like love stories where I can fall in love with the hero too and feel the heroine deserves him. Then when they finally have sex (which shouldn't be on the first date), I'm really thrilled for them. I enjoy reading about their coming together after the reader has been looking forward to it for a good part of the book. But that's me. If you like a lot of explicit sex, you'll like this book.
Headline: I have voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC version of Tempted by Anna Wild. Let me start out by saying that I have loved everything I have ever written by Anna Wild in the past. But I just couldn’t fully enjoy this book except for some of the steamy scenes. There were some great steamy scenes. The ending just couldn’t make up for all the crap (not the writing, the characters) in the middle. Jake was an A-hole. Holly was naïve and don’t even get me started on the ex-B. I had too many problems with this book. It annoyed me too much. Happy Reading!
*Spoilers* without giving too much away - the H and h break up about 3/4 through the book and the H sleeps with someone else. It’s as detailed as the sex scenes between H and h. Plus it’s with the girl the h was jealous about to begin with. I get that the H and h aren’t together. But the H is still very much in love with the h. Sooo.... I thought it pretty crass. Especially since he goes after the h shortly after.
I really felt that this book could have been better written. More of a story line and more in depth into what really was going on. I will say there was times it really got good, but than slowed up again. Your main Character says things he don't like of what the females did in his life but than he does the same thing. If you like mostly reading repeated explicit sex scenes this book would be for you. I received a arc copy for my honest review.
After losing his girlfriend in an ambush, Jake retreated to civilian life and opened a bar names after his love, Allison. He has kept women at a distance for years, knowing they only want what they see, not really him. Holly is a local deputy and has been flirting with him for months, seeing the real him, especially when she finds him crying in the rain. Major secrets and lies are exposed and told about both of them, tearing them apart and made worse by people instigating. Great read.
Jake reaches in to your chest and pulls your heart out, and captures it for hisself. You feel the sadness that Jake feels, and then thru the tears you meet Holly. By walking with Jake and Holly thru their journey to their HEA you feel sadness, joy, anger, aggravation, and most of all love.
ARC for honest review. First book I've read by Anna Wild and it definitely won't be my last. Loved the character's and the story line. Can't wait to read another.
No cheating? Technically no. HEA? Uh, sure. But only because Holly is both naive and pregnant, the lunatic is dead, and the jealous wench from the past gets her goodbye f***. The whole book is just all kinds of wrong. The writing is not real great, the sex scenes are sometimes painful. I mean, how many times can you use the word erogenous and have it refer to a nipple in one scene? Other descriptions too were enough to make me cringe and skim the rest. I should have quit reading is book from the word go. I didn't like any of the characters, the plot was ill conceived, the stalwart guy who's supposed to be faithful expects to be understood and forgiven for having trust issues then gives no quarter to a girl who loves him but has one case of difficulty because of some valid fears. F no. I think I hate everything about this story. And seriously, why does no one use a condom?!?
Got an ARC from the author, read and reviewed. Since there are spoilers and seriously negative feelings about this book I'm not reviewing on Amazon or reporting this review. Ugh..I'm going to need to need to read some seriously cheesy wonderful love stories to make up for this disaster.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I don't know where to start. The story idea was good but poorly executed. The love seems we're very cheesy and long. They read like a bad porno. Nobody talks like that in real life. The book was a lot longer than it needed to be. Way to much filler. It was one of those books that I had to force myself to finish. I feel bad because I know the author worked really hard on this book but it just fell flat for me. The H Jake is supposed to be this big bad Marine but he's always crying . Really? The h Holly was OK but so not believable. The actions of others and things that happened are so from reality. The whole time I'm think, nope that couldn't happen or no way not a chance.
I voluntarily reviewed this ARC. Jake retired from the marines and opens a bar. Holly is a frequent flyer secretly in love with him. When their paths cross one night do they have what it takes to make it through. When his past comes to town will he return with it. Steamy, fast read.
I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book, Tempted: A Secret Mountain Man Romance by Anna Wild.
The beginning was a little slow in grabbing my attention but by a few chapters in I was on the edge of my seat eager to find out what happened next. There are some very surprising twists and turns that keep you wondering what's gonna happen next, the past doesn't always stay in the past. Very happy I was able to read this book by Anna and can't wait to read her next one. I definitely recommend this book!
What a good book. Fun, very emotional, and just enjoyable to read. It was up and down and a lot of bumps in the road. I recommend it. It was a sweet story over all. Very well written. I was given a review copy and voluntarily review it.
This story contains lost love, betrayal broken friendship, deceit and second chances. It is well written and keeps you in suspense at times. Jake Issac has moved to the mountains to get away from the reminders in Boston. He was a Captain in the U.S Marine Corp. until his best friend and love Allison Barnes is killed on a mission he lead in the Middle East. He opens a bar he names Allison's after her where he blocks himself off from love and female friendship. Sheriff Deputy Holly Hutchinson doesn't give up easily when she sets her sites on Jake. Will Holly wear Jake down about dating her? Who's idea is it to spring a surprise on Jake? Will all turn out in the end, or will he make the wrong decision? I give it 4 stars. "I voluntarily read and reviewed anAdvanced Readers Copy gifted to me by the author with no obligation."
I was expecting more. After the previous release from Anna Wild was so fantastic, I thought this one would be too. The writing in this volume was decent and the encounter scenes were hot and steamy, though I found them kinda cheesy. The authors' ability is the only thing that saved this from being a one-star rating. The blurb had so much potential, but fairly soon into it, the story veered away from what I thought I was getting. The characters weren't very believable to me, their actions were really far-fetched, and by the end I had lost all respect for Jake. I never felt like I got to know Holly enough to care one way or the other if their relationship succeeded. It's very hard to invest in the happily-ever-after of characters you don't particularly like. I wanted to love this book. I really did. It just wasn't what I was hoping it would be. I received a complimentary copy of this book.
I liked the ideas of the story line, but feel that some of the paragraphs could have been shortened or left out altogether. At times it got a little confusing as to who was doing what to whom and when or where. Jake was a marine who lost the love of his life Allison, also a marine. She was killed on a mission - or was she? Three years later, Jake has another woman in his life; Holly, a deputy sheriff. Then Allison shows up alive and kicking. She was supposedly dead and buried because she went on a special mission. Now she wants Jake back and tries to cause trouble between Jake and Holly. Holly is even sent a picture showing Jake and Allison naked and looking lovingly at one another. It is a fake that has been Photoshopped, yet Holly does not see that, even though she supposedly knows a lot about computers. She screams at Jake and accuses him of being unfaithful to her and ends the relationship. Jake confronts Allison, but she did not send the photo. Then Allison is kidnapped by Jake's supposed friend Rivers who is obsessed with Allison and wants her for himself. Jake's friends rescue Jake and Allison; and then Jake and Holly finally get together again and Holly is pregnant so Jake is going to be a father. At times, there were a few too many plots and counter-plots going on in the story and it got a bit confusing. I think the author's writing style is progressing and with more books the problems will be sorted out. I was given an Advanced copy of this book and am freely and voluntarily writing this review.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. I enjoyed Jake & Alison's story. I usually like the guy to be the aggressor...so this was new. This was also a new author for me. Good book.
This is a story that will keep you engrossed right from the first page to the last one. Jake joined the Marine corps and so did Allison the woman he loved when she is killed he quits and goes to the small town of Adams to a log cabin and he builds a bar which the locals like. He did not want another woman in his life ! He meets Holly who can see the pain in his eyes as they get to know one another she is Jake’s calming influence . Can Jake let her into his life ? What Happens? I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Tempted is a standalone with no cliffhanger. There is some violence and a lot of graphic sex so definitely 18+. The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat all of that info here. The storyline is fairly typical of love, betrayal, and forgiveness.
Holly and Jakes story is so heart warming you want to cry and laugh and you want to put you arms around his body and just hold on I fill for Holly but she does not give up even if she can't have him but this story was so good Jake loses his one and only and he was going to propose they were both in the Marines and they were both side by side until one deployment and she died he could not take it so he went and got a bar and worked until she came in and she say his sarrow such a good tear jerk story and it ends so good I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book and it was so good loved every minute of it Michelle
Great storyline with well written characters. I loved Holly and Jake. I loved their dynamic relationship. I voluntarily reviewed this book and was not compensated in any way.
He is trying to heal after losing the woman he loved. When he meets Holly, it is a second chance. However, the past revisits them and might tear them apart.
I like emotional reads that make me cry. This one definitely has a lot of sadness. It also has a lot of action and suspense too.I really liked the relationship between Jake and Holly. They have a genuine connection and great chemistry. You can feel the love that is growing between them.
