Woolf Tales #1

Izzy's Boy

Rate this book
This is the debut MM novel from exciting new author Viva Gold.
Isadore Woolf is a man who knows what he wants in life and most recently that happens to be Adam Cohen. Isadore comes from a steady background with loving and supportive parents and is a good son. He has rejected his father’s wealth in favour of making his own and he has built a successful career in the financial world.
Izzy surrounds himself with people who cater to his needs and never more so than at his ‘club’ where his Dominant side is free to express itself among the many willing subs happy to kneel at his feet. But Isadore has reached the stage where his tastes have matured and refined, and the tall, muscle packed, long haired, quietly spoken Adam Cohen feeds every one of his kinks. Getting this mountain of a man to submit seems impossible but Izzy was never one to back down from a challenge.
Still, it’s not all handcuffs and roses as a sinister plot of revenge against Adam could jeopardise their love and even their lives.
Can Izzy save Adam?
Can Adam be what Izzy needs?
Fierce passion and untamed arrogance drives Isadore to risk everything for a future together.

I liked this book ok. The whole subplot with the D.J. Dave bothered me. I didn’t care for Izzy’s revenge.

I did like the cast of characters and it’s what I consider an easy read. It’s written with smooth prose and not too much angst or inner monologues.

This is my review of Izzy's Boy, from my M/M Romance Books Blog, OJ He Say.

OJ He Say

THE CHARACTERS

Isadore ‘Izzy’ Woolf:

My nose was not too long and flared out nicely. My face was fairly symmetrical which I guessed made it classically handsome. My cheek bones were defined and high and my eyes were hazel sometimes almost green, framed by dark brows and lashes. I kept my black hair thick but shortish and my barber took care of all the excess hairs up my nose and in my ears and around my eyebrows. I was usually clean shaven but due to being so dark my beard was already sprouting scruff since I shaved yesterday morning. I thought I might leave it as the friction against Adam’s pale skin would leave my mark for a few days at least. I smirked to myself imagining his inner thighs chafing and raw and I ran a hand over my chin.

My body was fit and toned from hours at the gym and playing football every Sunday morning. I had been in the same team for years and we had moved steadily up our league as we all got older and had something to prove. I flexed my biceps and tensed my pecs and I was pleased with the definition. I was nowhere near as hench as Adam but I wasn’t puny either.

My skin was dark due to a branch of the family that had Spanish and Portuguese heritage bestowing a rogue gene my way and I was grateful. I only had to look at the sun to tan and it suited me.

Adam Cohen:

The door flung open and I mentally thanked Myer and God in that order. I was faced with six feet plus of Adam Cohen looking like he should be on the front cover of GQ. I didn’t know any male supermodels, but I was certain that Adam was in another league superseding even the most popular masculine icons. And the best thing of all, he clearly had no idea the effect he had on me looking like he did…

The navy blue suit fit Adam perfectly. The jacket was tight across the shoulders without pulling at the shape and it tapered into his narrow waist with a single button to fasten it. The fabric hugged his biceps and ended at his wrists with the white double cuffs of his shirt neatly fixed by a set of elegant white gold cufflinks. He wore no tie and had left the first two buttons of his shirt undone showing a hint of cleavage that made me want to bury my head there and inhale his unique scent. I licked my lips and Adam squirmed under my scrutiny.

Glancing down at the slim fitting trousers, I was completely transfixed as his thigh muscles bunched against the material. And the navy suede Gucci loafers were a perfect match. “Stunning,” I mumbled to myself then looked up at his face. “Yup, you look good enough to eat.”

THE STORY

Oh, man! What a delicious story this turned out to be. I really did not know what to expect when I started reading this book and much to my joy the MC’s are hot, gay, Jewish Brits. I so enjoy something totally new to me, and this was definitely it.

In the interest of full disclosure I must say that I am somewhat familiar with Jewish traditions and culture as I have grown up and worked alongside many Jewish friends and co-workers so when I saw this was a Jewish D/s story I was stoked!

The story of Izzie and Adam was so enjoyable and down to earth that I was surprised at how easily I lost myself in the book and found I didn’t want to put it down for real life. I love when that happens!

Izzy bumps into Adam at Yom Kippur after many years. The same Adam he remembered from when they were kids, who is now an incredibly hunky, successful man that Izzy cannot tear himself away from. When Izzy discovers that Adam has had a crush on him since childhood and is turned on by his dominance and arrogance it can’t but add fuel to the fire that Adam was already igniting in him.

I don’t do spoilers, however suffice it to say that things get rocky and downright nasty once Adam’s ex, DJ Da Vinci comes popping back into Adam’s life. Adam’s ex is back for revenge with a vengeance and that is where things really get rocking. This is one heck of a story.

THE WRITING

I really loved the writing, it’s crisp and clear and enjoyable, flowing smoothly throughout. The D/s dynamic was spot on and the English colloquialisms made for an enjoyable read throughout.

The sex scenes were absolutely phenomenal, real and down to earth. No incredible, impossible acrobatics and the interaction between the MC’s was very well crafted. Very recommendable.

The editing is top notch. I did not find one typo or garbled sentence or paragraph. No WTF moments that make me go back and re-read a passage in order to understand it.

If this is ‘Woolf Tales Book 1’ I am really wanting Woolf Tales Book 2. Come on, Ms. Gold, don’t hold out on us!

Review by The Blogger Girls.

This is a rather sweet story about two Jewish men who grew up in the same community but only realize how compatible they are when they are older.

Izzy has always known what he likes and is pretty specific about what he wants in a man. He is confident and is even a bit arrogant about it, for which he makes no excuses. When he sees something, or someone, he wants, he goes for it. This has paid off in his professional life, and eventually pays of in his personal as well.

Adam, on the other hand, is a bit more shy, due, in part, to his larger size which causes most people (men) to assume he is a total top. He has hidden his submissive side, though he has no actual experience in the BDSM lifestyle.

Adam is in Izzy’s sights once again during a Jewish holiday, following which, Izzy’s parents have invited Adam’s over to dinner. Izzy makes his intentions towards Adam pretty clear, and after some initial reluctance on Adam’s part, they decide to explore things a bit more.

This story has a lot to offer. There are great BDSM dynamics, and while their roles are crystal clear, they do not fall into the same old, same old, category. They switch things up here and there, with plenty of protectiveness and intimacy to go along with it all. It has some fabulous side characters, including Izzy’s long-time PA and their now ever-present bodyguard twins, G&T, and boy would I like to get a glimpse of their story! These guys both have wonderful families, including their meddling mothers, which emphasizes the importance of family and their faith.

But what shows through the most here is how perfect these guys are for each other. Izzy is a fabulous Dom who often reminds himself of his need to take care of Adam’s needs. They go through a bit of an ordeal when Adam’s crazy ex shows up, but it only brings them closer together and strengthens their bond in the end.

While I wasn’t totally blown away by this story, it was a very enjoyable read that left me wanting to read more about the couple at hand, as well as others, and it kept me interested right to the end. I thought this was a very well done first book by Ms. Gold, and I will definitely be on the lookout for more from her in the future.

Izzy’s Boy is the first book in the Woolf Tales series by Viva Gold. Izzy’s Boy is the debut MM novel from this new author and is written using British English. I like to read BDSM books and stories that have a darker spin on things, so I one-clicked after reading the blurb. It sounded like something that I would enjoy reading, and I wasn’t disappointed.

It isn’t a fluffy sweet story. Isadore “Izzy” Woolf has a very intense, possessive, arrogant, and aggressive personality and he does do some questionable things that ride the edge of what you would think an experienced Dom would do. But as the story progresses and Adam Cohen gets more familiar with being a submissive and quits being afraid of the intense chemistry that’s between them, Izzy is able to mellow out a little bit, and they work more like a well-oiled machine. By the end of the book, you can really feel the powerful connection between Dom and sub as they scene.

I liked that Izzy and Adam are both Jewish and British. I don’t know much about Jewish culture or religion, other than what I have seen on TV shows but I liked the thought of Izzy sitting in the synagogue ogling Adam and thinking about the last time that he had seen him and the naughty things that they had done. Izzy isn’t the perfect Jewish son. He likes to make snarky comments that have his parents glare at him and causes Adam to blush when he and his parents are invited over for Friday night dinner. Adam, on the other hand, has impeccable manners and is the perfect Jewish son, and as Izzy notes, he’s a natural submissive.

I loved the size dynamic that’s in this story between Izzy and Adam. Izzy has a slimmer but muscular build and is about six feet tall. Adam is built wide, muscular, and tall at over six and a half feet tall. Adam looks like he should be a Dom but he has a gentle, nurturing soul and is a people pleaser, making him a natural submissive. But all of his past relationships, because of his size, he’s always been put in the role of a top when he wants to be the bottom. Izzy may be on the smaller size, but he prefers his men to be physically bigger and stronger but submissive, and Adam fits that pattern perfectly for Izzy. And Izzy refuses to take no for an answer. He knows that if he can just get Adam to give him a chance that they would be perfect together and he’s sure that Adam is his One.

But it won’t be a bed of roses as Adam is both attracted and repelled by Izzy’s arrogance and Izzy finds Adam’s innocence irresistible and he worries that Adam will break too easily but holding back isn’t an option for him. As they begin to discover how their unusual kink will work for them both, events conspire to destroy their fledgling relationship and perhaps prove fatal for Adam. His ex is on a mission, and it’s up to Izzy to save his Boy.

I did fall in love with Jason, Izzy’s PA extraordinaire and best friend and his identical twin boyfriends, T and G. I really hope that the next book is going to be about their relationship.

I would have given a higher rating, but the book is riddled with wrong grammar tense, quote marks that aren’t placed correctly (might be a formatting issue?), and an incorrect name among other issues. They just kept pulling me out of the story, and I found it a little annoying. I expect it in an ARC book because they usually go through another round of editing before being published, so I don’t hold the errors against them in a review, but I was reading the purchased copy of the book, so these issues should have been caught and removed.

***I would like to thank the author for the privilege and opportunity of reading this ARC. My review is an honest opinion of the book ***

Isadore "Izzy" Woolf is a strong, successful, dominate man. He comes from a loving, supportive family, but has made his own way in life.

Adam Cohen is a gentle giant. Adam also comes from loving, supportive parents and his also very successful. That is where the similarities in these two men seem to end. Opposites do tend to attract though.

Adam and Izzy have known each other for years, but reconnect at Yom Kippur services. Dominant Izzy is instantly drawn to the beautiful and naturally submissive Adam and sets out to win him. He gets Adam to agree to a date and from the start these two just fit. Everything is going just as it should be for these two until it's not. A sinister plot against Adam put their relationship, their lives and the trust they are building to the ultimate test. How each man responds to the threat and to violence brings all their differences to light. Adam is left with a lot of questions after learning some things about Izzy, questions he'll need to answer in order to move forward with Iz.

I have to warn you, there is a scene in this book that really took me aback. I found myself asking questions about Izzy and wondering if he is right for sweet Adam. Izzy is arrogant, bossy and possessive. He owns that about himself and makes no apologies for it, but he also loves and protects what is his fiercely. I'm glad I gave Izzy a chance to explain himself, I saw him in a whole new light. This book is sexy, gritty and real. I recommend it highly.

Wow, is how I would describe this book! The writing is beautiful and flows throughout this very lengthy book. Lengthy not as in can't wait to finish, but lengthy as in the author is no rush to get the story completed which seems to be the case with a lot of authors. Because of this we get so much more from the characters and their lives which is wonderful for the reader. I was intrigued when I saw the mention of Izzy and Adam in the Christmas story Blue Christmas and wanted to find out more.

Isadore (Izzy) Wolf is a man who I really didn't think I would like. He's arrogant, possessive, demanding and lets no one stand in his way but he definitely proved me wrong along the journey of this book. Adam Cohen is a mountain of quiet, gentle muscle and is quite the opposite. The two have known each other since childhood and during a family meal, Izzy decides he wants Adam for himself and goes all out to get him in any way he can. Izzy finds out that Adam actually craves someone to dominate him which doesn't usually happen as his size is so formidable, and that calls out to his dominant side. Izzy of course wins and the two become a couple. but their new happines is however short lived when a threat from Adams past puts both of their lives in danger. Izzy shows that he is in fact a very caring man who will do anything to protect those he loves from danger or harm and this ultimately saves both his and Adams lives.

I loved the in depth look into both of the men's lives and also enjoyed the aspects of their Jewish life and culture which was new to me and added to the story. The story was very consuming and I stayed up very late a couple of times as I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read book 2 in this series and more from this author. highly recommended.

I just love it when you find a new M/M author who isn’t afraid to take risks with their story, to let their personality shine through, and I can safely say Viva Gold, does just that.

Yes, this is her M/M debut, but do NOT let that put you off giving Izzy’s Boy a try. What she has done is mix a rich background for her leading men and put her own slant on the relationship.

Don’t go into this with any expectations other than that of reading a wonderful story.

Isadore Woolf (Izzy) is strong, determined and a man used to getting exactly what he wants, when he wants it. The problem is, he wants Adam Cohen, bound and naked in his bed.

Izzy is an extremely demanding man, and doesn’t like not getting things all his own way both in business and his personal life. I really liked this character, he was gutsy and not afraid to take what he wants.

He and Adam work hard to find their groove, but just when things are going so right, things go so wrong. NO SPOILERS HERE! If you want to know more, you’re gonna have to click and read for yourself.

Both these characters are unique, each has their own flaws and insecurities. No-ones perfect after all (well Izzy thinks he is). The plot was great and well paced, and I would actually love more from these two, please? Pretty please!

Great debut into this genre from an author I suspect we will hear alot more from.

For a debut book this really was a fantastic read.
Izzy and Adam were fantastic characters and I loved learning more about their Jewish ethnicity, the way it was written showed that the author has either done their research or knows of the Jewish ethnicity.
Without giving anything away the story line was superbly written as were the characters. There's a few characters I do hope get their own book as well as hoping we get another book for Izzy and Adam too! Izzy is definitely like his surname, very WOLF-ish in his predatory and protectiveness of those he loves.
My only issue was the over use of the word "and". I did come to sort of ignore it and in my mind replaced some of them with commas instead.
Overall a fantastic read! 4.5 stars .

Different but Hot

I saw a post for this story and was instantly intrigued. I've always wanted to read a story where the alpha male was smaller than the object of their desire. That the shorter, less muscular person was the one calling the shots. I wasn't familiar with all of the religious terms used, and I'm not personally into BDSM humiliation (personally or just observing), but it definitely added to this story.

Good M&M Jewish romance

This is the first book I've read by this author, and I have to say it wasn't what I expected. when I started the book I expected some M&M/ BDSM story where sex wass the main topic. However, that was only a little bit of the story. The story opened up and there was a little bit of suspense as we await the trial of DJ Dave.
Izzy and Adam are cute together. They share their love of an M&M relationship, and we see that blossom.
If you like M&M romance you'll enjoy this book.

Izzy's boy is a book full of spunk, sass, humour and a whole lot of hot in between the sudden dark turn.

Izzy is a man who knows what he wants and he gets everything he sets his eyes on, even the very large and very sweet Adam, who blushes like a champ and fits Izzy like a glove.

I found their story so sweet that when it took a turn I didn't expect it and halfly assumed as Izzy that is was a jest. The turn of events shows Izzy's true personality, the sadist that is hidden and that shakes Adam's view of him.

It's impossible not to like Izzy and his arrogance, it seems so natural, even when he reminds us often that he is indeed the master of fellatio. And along with Izzy, I had an instinct to protect Adam that had the appearance of a mountain but the confidence of a pebble.

A brand new M/M author with her debut novel Izzy's boy which meant I went into this story with no expectations at all but much excitement nonetheless.
This story is truly captivating, it's a very well executed book that has instant impact and flows beautifully throughout.

This book was quite different to many books I have read, there was a strong element of their religion/ culture sprinkled throughout and I was fascinated to learn more about the Jewish culture, it was I think very integral to the story which is important to me.

Isadore was simply stunning, his dominant nature evident from the very beginning, he was strong, masterful and commanding...so much so I even wanted to kneel!
Adam was also a strong man but wanted someone to see through his facade and take charge, he wanted to submit but it would take someone very special to extract that side out of him.
Izzy was just the man though and he commanded his boy with such magnificence that it was spellbinding to see. Simply put it was a book I could not put down.
However this relationship was not all plain sailing, they had many obstacles in which to climb and were they strong enough, or could they compromise enough to make it work?

The secondary characters were fabulous...Jason PA extraordinare was brilliant- loved him and G&T were inspired!

A great debut book by Viva Gold, extremely well written, a gutsy no holds barred book that is as sensual as it is edgy and she is definitely one to watch in the M/M world!

As this was a debut novel , l went into it without any expectations,
feeling excited to find a new author in the M/M genre.
As soon as l started to read the story l was captivated instantly,
the writing was very good and the story just flowed beautifully.

l just loved the feel of the story , I felt the very British vibe all throughout,
it was edgy and just dark enough to complement the love and lives of both men.
There was a strong element of family and importance of religion.
l chuckled at both sets of mothers still being over protective and meddling,
even though both Isadore and Adam were very much grown up.

When the Dom Isadore appeared, he was a man to be feared,he was just magnificent
in his role, as he commanded Adam into submission.
All the while understanding what his Boy needed and craved.
Both Izzy and Adam's descriptions were so delicious.

The side characters were just awesome , l adored Jason, PA extraordinaire to Izzy,
and can l say,l want me some G&T, and l don't even drink...

A thoroughly enjoyable story , well balanced and very well written.

Well - this story certainly had its passionate moments, but somehow it just turned out utterly silly and way OTT for me.

And - it felt weird not to hear from Adams POV.

I am not sure how I feel overall about this book. I love and fully get the whole North London Jewish bit. It's the writing style particularly at the beginning and Izzy 's character i am not sure about. But I a.m conscious that we all like different styles so I would say give this book a go.
