An all-new Doctor Who adventure featuring the Ninth Doctor, Rose, and Jack—reimagined in the style of Roger Hargreaves.
With a little help from Rose and Jack, Dr. Ninth sets out to prevent an otherworldly invasion.
These storybook mash-ups, written and illustrated by Adam Hargreaves, combine the iconic storytelling of Doctor Who with the whimsical humor and design made famous by his father, Roger Hargreaves.
Dr. Ninth continues this series of witty and tongue-in-cheek storybooks—each featuring one of the twelve Doctors.
Adam Hargreaves is an English author and illustrator. The son of Roger Hargreaves, he continues his father's popular Mr. Men series of children's books. Hargreaves also served as inspiration for the series. When at the age of six he asked his father "What does a tickle look like?", Roger used that question to create the first book, Mr. Tickle.
This was a cute story for kids following the ninth doctor, Rose, and Captain Jack. There’s lots of references to the ninth doctor’s era of Doctor Who throughout the story. It’s not that deep of a story, but it’s perfect for kids and any die hard whovians who want to spend more time with the ninth doctor.
This little collection is cute and funny. Might not be the best one but still entertaining and enjoyable! There is a lot of reference to the Doctor Who, maybe more then the previous one I've read, and of course this was a good point for me!
Probably my least favourite story out of the set. Mainly due to continuity of the show. In this story, Rose meets fhe Doctoe for the first time and also seeing the TARDIS. We also find out the Doctor is already friends with Captain Jack. It would have been better to establish they were already companions and travelling with thd Doctor. Involved the nod to Rose's firt adventure, the autons.A fun references . But I would have preferred the Autons being involved with the third Doctor
First off, this TOTALLY ruins how the doctor first meets Rose. Totally. It still has the same concept, gotta find the autons, etc, BUT, it ruins it so so much because it rehashes out the first episode. Could they not come up with something different for 9? Why does he always get the short end of the stick!?!?
As a Doctor Who fan looking for unique baby books for both my little one and myself I was excited to find these series. While the Doctor and Rose appear in this edition, their relationship and how they meet doesn't follow the original series. That's fine, I can appreciate this as it's own entity.
As if inspired by a particularly insipid Terrance Dicks novelisation, Hargreaves doesn’t so much attempt a mash-up here as a clumsy retelling of Rose’s first story. The text is belaboured and even the pictures offer little. Jack Harkness is a middling highpoint.
If I were as bothered about the Revived series canon as that of the Classic series, then I'd mark down this book as others have. But, in this case, I can enjoy it as a mash-up of: 'three characters from the Eccleston period in a retelling of the Rose story' meets 'Mr. Men tropes such as Mrs. Sprout's Greengrocer's'. I love the use of cabbages!
Ok, I am biased a bit because the Ninth Doctor is my favorite Doctor, but this one was really cute and fun. I found myself being really animated in reading this little Doctor Who tale to my daughter. The illustrations are done in a manner that draws her attention, and her mamma loves the story. It's a really nice way to start making my daughter a little Whovian.
I'm not sure what was more exciting-The ninth doctor, Rose, or Captain Jack! I was a little annoyed that the monsters in this book are the Autons and Jack wasn't in that episode, but overall - SQUEE!
Il nono Dottore, Rose e il Capitano Jack in lotta contro gli Auton, nella rivisitazione di Adam Hargreaves per il primo incontro tra il Dottore e la prima companion della nuova era. Nulla da eccepire come sempre.
Dr. Ninth is a children's picture book written and illustrated by Adam Hargreaves and is a part of the Doctor Who Meets Mr Men and Little Miss series, which tells a story about the Ninth Doctor saving Rose Tyler from Auton with the help from Jack Harkness. Today is National Dr Who/T.A.R.D.I.S. Day (23 November) and I thought it would be apropos to read this today.
The text is rather simple and straightforward. Hargreaves aptly captured the essence of the Ninth Doctor's gravitas fairly well. The illustrations are a perfect combination between the Doctor Who and the Mr Men and Little Miss universes. The Ninth Doctor depicted really looks like Christopher Eccleston from the Mr Men and Little Miss universe.
The premise of the book is rather straightforward. It's a nice day and The Ninth Doctor decides to go shopping and enter a clothes shop where he meets Rose Tyler. When suddenly, the mannequins in the store come to life and the Ninth Doctor dragged Rose out of the shop. They rescued and were soon joined by Jack Harkness and together the three defeated the Auton.
All in all, Dr. Ninth is a wonderful children's book about the Ninth Doctor and the perfect amalgamation of Dr. Who and the Mr Men and Little Miss universes.
I've just finished rewatching Christopher Eccleston's season as the Doctor and I'm so sorry he didn't stick around (although I did love David Tennant too). This story takes us back to the Auton invasion, which is the catalyst for Rose meeting the Doctor, and Captain Jack even joins the party (it irks me that in the last episode of Season 1, ). I loved the clever use of cabbages here, and the mannequin wearing the Fourth Doctor's distinctive scarf was a cute touch!
Doctor Who/Mr. Men collaboration originated by Roger Hargreaves.
I love this comical little series of books. We’ve been collecting them over the years. I’ve been catching up on the ones I bought for my son at Christmas.
Dr. Ninth goes clothes shopping and meets Rose. When Auton mannequins attack them, the Doctor uses his fantastic aim to save the day and rescue a surprise companion.
What a hoot! The hubs and I are finally reading this series I bought for him at Xmas. Both of us being Whovians, and me being a librarian and fond of the quirky “Little Mr./Miss/Ms.” series, we are amused.
Rose and the Doctor’s first meeting! Cabbages, fourth doctor references and Captain Jack. Eccelstein as a Mr. Men is also fun, his hair is entertaining.
Cute story that brings together Rose, the Doctor, and Jack, as they face down the Auton mannequins, in an unconditional way. Fun, but not my favorite of the series.
