r experiencing a tragedy too painful to accept, Viviana Magnus starts having strange dreams. In them, she's whisked away from her cloudy Seattle home to the sun-drenched city of Tenochtitlan during the height of the Aztec Empire. She thinks it's only an escape-a way for her mind to cope with her harsh reality-especially the parts featuring the handsome young Aztec General, Tadeo. But when a strange, consuming fire starts building inside Viviana, she discovers her family has been keeping a dark secret. Her dreams aren't just dreams, they're preparation for an ancient destiny. As the old world and the new collide, Viviana learns she is one of the four Elemental Linx, a group of powerful new era Gods and Goddesses, destined to fight a vengeful Aztec Deity bent on destroying the human race.
Viviana is a teenage girl who is struggling with a recent life-altering change when she starts having vivid dreams that seem to be transporting her to an ancient Aztec city. As she pieces things together she finds out she's one of the four elemental linx, prophesied to save the human race from the Aztec Moon God.
This book adds a fresh perspective within the fantasy genre as it explores the mythology of the Aztec deities. As the main characters interact and we meet the 4 linx, as well as other key supporting characters the story evolves in a fast-paced adventure that leaves you anxiously waiting to see what happens next. The only thing I would say is that I wish the story was developed more because I wanted more details by the time it was over and wish I could have kept reading! The back and forth tension between the two developing stories reminded me of the Nicholas Flamel series, which kept me coming back for more, just as this one left me wishing I didn't have to stop!
The Elemental Linx, Tetrad Prophecy takes you on a journey with Viviana who discovers that she is one of the four Elemental Linx and prepares for their battle with the Moon God and their followers. As if being a teen in their junior year isn't challenging enough, Viviana's challenges with her newly discovered superpower and responsibility take her on a emotional rollercoaster of a new responsibility she never imagined would have. The author's descriptive writing channels the Native American story telling techniques as well as taking you through the voyage of the Northwest indigenous spirit. You are sucked into the story and can feel yourself there right next to our protagonist every step of the way. The style of writing used keeps you on the edge of your seat eager for what is to come next. I think this a great read for young adults and adults in general. If you enjoyed the Twilight fantasy series, you'll find yourself even more wrapped up with the Tetrad Prophecy. Watch out Stephany Myers! R. Castro's Tetrad Prophecy is about to take over.
The author, R. Castro, narrated a tale of “The Moon God wants a battle on earth to prevent the next sacrifice which happens every fifty-two years. He plans on creating four lunar eclipsed, four blood moons each one signifying death. If the Linx fail to stop the Mood God, the earth’s destruction will come in the form of volcanic eruptions,” she wrote, in her book. I bought it weeks ago, and enjoyed it on my bed. This is a good YA novel, with a good writing of the author’s fantastic world. I can read those subtle feelings of Viviana, who is discovering her superpower through dreaming the world, the ancient Aztec city. I will rate it 4.5 stars if I were a “YA reader,” due to the author’s smooth writing. As an adult, I rate it 4 stars. I honestly say, “it’s not too hard to get into this book for young adults, who love ancient worlds, like Aztec.” And I can see the next book will be another beautiful spark.
Such a wonderful fantasy adventure! Excited for book 2!
Where to even start? It's been a long time since I have picked up a fantasy novel that was so captivating. Elemental Linx combines the sweetest touches of romance, fantasy, and Aztec mythology into a clean, and intriguing young adult novel that is entertaining and engaging. I adored the entire story! It's not many that could weave a tale between sleeping and reality, with such fluidity, but R. Castro did it with such finesse that I couldn't stop reading. It's one of those books that you will read once and want to read it again as soon as you are done! I just love it!!!!!!!
I quite enjoyed the way your mind spinned aztec myths and legends. It helped that I was familiar with them because I am a lover of history and culture. At first it felt like she would be alone in her journey but im glad ahe found companions on her mission to save humanity. I also noticed the undertone that was the catalyst that we as humans judge what we dont understand and before we could inform ourselves we condemn and even more than that we will try to take what others have and male it our own even when it exceeds our understanding. Thank you for a great story.
A well-written YA story that traverses two worlds...and secrets.
Viviana has dreams, are they real or just an escape from her sorrow?
This tale is a cross between fantasy, history, myth and legend, with a touch of teenage angst and romance. Some good characters, an intriguing plot and concept.
I have to confess that I read this book twice; once because of the fast pace of the story and my impatience to find out what happens next, and a second time to go back and pick up on the minutiae that I missed on my first go-round! I can't wait for the next installment!
I was hoping for a bit more than what I got with this book. It is very confusing at first and very slow moving. The idea is great and I love that it involves Aztec history and culture. The writing is very choppy and unedited. it makes for a rough read. I honestly didn't get into the story line for half the book. It was just a drag for the most part. I was hoping for a more smooth style read and something a bit more exciting. The blurb for the book drew me in but the way the book started out didn't really keep me wanting to know more. I love the characters and the use of elements in the plot. I wish the writing and descriptions supported them and the plot line a bit more. There was so much confusion in the beginning that I felt like I was just being thrown from one plot setting to the next without any constructive descriptions or explanations. It was just too choppy. The way it ended was random and unexpected. Not in a cliff hanger sort of way but more of a random lets just stop here because there was nothing exciting going on.
In the beginning I didn't care for the main two female characters. They were both kind of aggressive and rude for no reason. Very unrelateable and arrogant. Their attitudes slowed a bit as the story went on but still I have some irritation with them that hopefully dissipates as the series continues. There is always room for growth and character development, which the author does not lack on. She does seem to have a good grasp on the characters and their developments, though the descriptive plot settings could use some work. I enjoyed the story none the less though I had some issues with the writing and plot settings and lack of description. I do hope this author can work on some of these things to bring a better book with book two. This was not as exciting and intriguing for a first book as it could have been and is really just a set up book to attempt at the explanation of some prophetic plans for the main characters and their destiny. Don't go in with expectations for excitement or action. Its very slow but I do have hopes book two will be more exciting.
Wish I could leave a half star review but sadly I can't. I would give this a 3.5/5 so I'll round up.
This is a highly imaginative story and I loved the exploration of Aztec cultures, of which I knew little about. Viviana is a strong and multi-layered protagonist and she carried the story forward well. I really liked the way her every day life was juxtaposed against life as the Elemental Linx. A great, original YA read.
I can't begging to tell how much I loved this book. Aztec, mayan, incan and taino mythology have always been a huge part of my life and the way this book bring them to the present is awesome. Can't wait to read the others. Escribelos pronto por favor!
