Killing the Rising How America Vanquished World War II Japan is a text detailing the Pacific War. The book was published in September 2016. It is the 6th text in the Killing series. The authors attempt to cover history in detail with the assistance of deep research and the book has the quality to make its readers remember some really important dates and people linked with World War II. However, the book has not been received too favorably by critics and according to them, it does not tell anything new about history and is rather bland.

Corporal Lewis Kenneth Bausell, along with other marines in the First Battalion, was posted to Peleliu. Peleliu was an island with a well established control of the Japanese forces and yet the mission was undercover because of minor perceived threats by American intelligence. Corp. Bausell was a known marine even though he was new. The Japanese had a strict rule of never getting caught. Peleliu was loaded with well-armed and well-skilled Japanese army that was hidden away from view. Bausell detected the location of a nest and a flamethrower was used to draw the Japanese out. It turned out that the Japanese did get burned but they threw a grenade while coming outside the crevices. Bausell threw himself at one of these grenades to save his peers. He saved many marines while he himself passed away after a period of three days. His body was thrown into the sea.
