4.5 stars. I've been lucky to have read some awesome books lately. This is a very much underrated series that packs a powerful punch. This book is the 4th in the Craig crime series set in Belfast.

The story is very dark and gritty involving people trafficking and murder. Some of the content is disturbing. A girl's body is found hanging upside down at the altar in a church. She has been grotesquely mutilated. The injuries are reminiscent of the crucifixion. But she also has a pentagram carved into her back and a Jewish ceremonial knife thrust into her side. The first reaction is the usual - cries of devil worship - but DCI Craig things instead it is a classic case of misdirection.

We soon learn of a mysterious and shadowy group of 'VIPs' who will stop at nothing to protect their corruption and depravity. There is a deadline looming. Can the Belfast police team solve this in time? Look its a shit review because I've got a heap of things competing for my attention right now but trust me, its a great series and this is a dark instalment which would appeal to many.

The waiting Room.
This is book 4 in the Craig series and in my opinion it's the best yet. Human trafficking and murder is on the menu in this thrilling book. This will keep your attention until the very end. I feel like I know Belfast as well as my own town. Catriona explains the area so well.

Smart girls make foolish choices in this book about murder and human trafficking. When Craig's team is called to investigate the murder of a brutally mutilated and murdered young woman, the race is on. a cabal of rich and powerful men are conducting modern day slave trading, auctioning off girls who were stupid enough to be tempted by money. The action is fast and the read is engaging. There are some issues though mainly quibbles. First, the endless meeting where the team reviews the evidence gets tiring. Additionally, the fact that the human merchandise was kept so poorly really doesn't make sense/ Not all issues are resolved. Granted they are not central to the main investigation but it would have been nice to know. Still a good procedural.

A very sad and haunting book involving luring young virgin girls into a web of abuse, selling, and eventually death. Once in this web concocted by old millionaires world wide who bid on these young girls, their lives were doomed....there was no escape except death which usually happened during a 'snuff video'.

At times I thought I would not keep on reading but then I just had to see how it played out and how Inspector Craig would solve such a horrendous crime.

I did not finish this book. The subject matter became too unrealistic, involving exotic conspiracy schemes. I am disappointed because the author has the ability to write normal police procedurals and is very good at that. I will not give up on her.

A better read

Finally, 5, maybe 6 characters to follow. What a relief. Good plotline, and the story moved forward at a good pace.

I do enjoy this series, especially all the local interest. I am still whinging about the lack of twists or red herrings, but the books roll on nicely, the storytelling is good.

Without risking spoilers- I struggled to understand why anyone would pay big bucks for commodities which had been kept in poor conditions for a while- and this was really at the core of this one

Tension throughout

As Monty Python would say and now for something completely different.
The storyline was innovative, fast paced, with tension throughout. A visionary story on the theme of slavery and money.
Great story.

I really like this author. She has a really great talent for creating characters you care about and for the most part their decisions are sound. The setting adds color to the stories. I'm hooked!
