After 25 books in the same series, you'd think Sands would run out of story lines but she is still going strong. She hasn't lost her touch. I like her consistency in key elements that span throughout the line. The details matter.

In this story, Domitian and Sarita bring sexy back with an almost combustible desire for one another. They are kidnapped and dropped on an island alone together. What are life mates to do? Of course there is a big plot to go along with it but I needed to take a moment to give Sands some kudos. They were muy caliente together.

The plot was interesting and connected with others in the series seamlessly. It opened up some interesting possibilities for potential future couples. Our main couple followed a pretty standard mold for this series but I was still entertained.

Safety: No others for Domitian after meeting the h but she was very young (13) so he stepped back to let her grow up and "live". Living did include her sleeping with other men but she didn't have an awareness of the H or of the concept of life mates. No rape.

Dr. Dressler’s island!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🤎💜
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 😠☺️😋🥰
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Solo Narration

The Hero: Domitian Argenis - many immortals have been missing, including hunters and enforcers. Domitian is going in undercover as a chef for Dr. Dressler on an island off the coast of Venezuela. Dressler is the man they know is behind the kidnappings. They know he is a mad scientist who is obsessed with studying and experimenting on immortals. Domitian is a Spanish cousin to the Argeneau family and close to Lucien.

The heroine: Sarita Reyes - she is a police officer in Canada. Though she went to an island off the coast of Venezuela to visit her grandmother. She was waiting for Dr. Dressler to return home and take her to her grandmother. She had been told the ridiculous amount of security on the island was due to a rise in kidnappings in the area. She was annoyed about it even though she knows firsthand about the problem of kidnappings, as that was how her mother was killed when she was young.

The Story: Sarita finds her way into a part of the island that was under even more security and finds Dr. Dressler conducting highly illegal experiments on an obviously supernatural man. He brought the man back from the dead after being cut in half and each half separated from each other for a period of time. The doctor tells Sarita all about immortals and their backstory of Atlantis and the nano’s. How they are humans, and the only difference is the nano’s and about their life mates.

Though the doctor and his experiments are obviously the machinations of a lunatic. They are torture, pure and simple and Sarita is shocked and appalled. She isn’t even able to react when the doctor plunges a needle into her which knocks her unconscious, but not before telling her that her life mate is arriving now and that studying them will help him immensely.

I didn’t understand why the Argeneau’s didn’t put some sort of tracker in Domitian since the reason he was going undercover was to find out where the doctor’s island was located. I would have thought they would have enforcer troops coming in after him within hours, but no, they somehow expected him to find his way out. Well, I guess they did expect that they would be able to track his phone, which they couldn’t because it was turned off, but you would think they should have put a tracker under his skin.

This story was told in dual points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Julian Durant. I didn’t really like his narration style or his accents. Though he did use more than one to differentiate between characters. I didn’t like these two characters as much as some of the others in this series. For one, they were inappropriately horny despite the fact that they knew they were being watched. Things got steamy pretty early on in this book and I wanted less chatting between these two and more action than I got in this one. I wanted them to escape and take down Dr. Demento (I mean Dressler) right away rather than just eating, talking and doing the deed over and over.

Well this latest addition to the Argeneau series is quite simply non stop entertainment! This author brings her own twist to traditional vampire lore with these her Immortals who also just happen to be descended from a race that nowadays is the stuff of legends. Yet not content to simply leave it there we get the added bonus of a scientific vibe with nanos and of course mind blowing sexy times! I mean come on wouldn't you like to tick passing out into glorious oblivion from the ultimate shared big O off your bucket list? Yet this instalment blows all the cobwebs away with the addition of a mad scientist ! Prepare to buckle up for an unforgettable ride!
So this series has been leading up to all the dastardly deeds that have been happening on a mysterious Venezuelan island and the Immortals have never been in more peril. You would think with all their strength and speed they would be invincible but unfortunately not as they all share a weakness, the need to protect their life mates ! Domitian found his when she was barely a teen and nobly decided to wait until Sarita had grown up and tasted the world. Now he wakes chained to a table and faced with the independent life mate who never knew he existed! Sarita has been lied to, drugged and now she's all alone with a blood sucking vampire! Still it's not all bad as he is kind of cute but it's a bit creepy that he's had her followed for the past fifteen years and as far as Sarita is concerned there's definitely not going to be any sexy shenanigans . Hmm lets see how long that lasts !
Keeping a long running series fresh is a challenge that this author has clearly relished and this new departure has so many possibilities. There's still the heat that excites so many readers with veteran characters making an appearance and of course new and somewhat unusual ones here too! If honest I was a little taken aback by Saritas initial reaction to everything she sees and learns as personally I'd have been running screaming but then again as individuals we all react differently . Sarita is sassy and stubborn but pairing her with such a sweetie as Domitian worked out beautifully. Yes there's danger, suspense and humour too but for this reader the mad scientist added just enough darkness to keep me gripped.
A copy of this was provided for me and I have voluntarily read it which means my comments are my own honest opinion

As the kidnappings continue and more and more Immortals go missing, Lucien has no choice but to let a non-hunter go into the lion’s den to try to help uncover exactly what is going on. Domitian will stop at nothing to find his life mate, including being kidnapped himself. He has no idea what is waiting for him on the island but needs to get to Sarita.

Sarita is appalled at the story Dr. Dressler told her after she inadvertently helped put a man back together again. But, waking up in paradise with no clothes except for bikini’s and negligees, with a note directing her to the basement, she has to wonder how much of what he told her was true. Of course, if it is, she’s one pissed-off woman and the man chained to the table in the basemen is going to hear about it.

Domitian knows that Sarita is a strong-willed woman. He had no idea just how stubborn she really is. There is no way that she is accepting the idea of shared pleasure, of Immortals, of taking orders from anyone. He soon finds out that she is her own woman and will do what she thinks is best, no matter the outcome. He has his hands full but couldn’t be happier … even being held prisoner by a mad doctor who has cameras positioned all over and has gotten one hell of an eyeful of his Sarita. He has some ideas and it’s time to get her on board and get off of the island.

With a little bit of help from two little old ladies and a hybrid eagle (yea, Dr. Dressler is a wee bit deranged) they get the job done. But, not without a few mishaps.

I can always count on Lynsay Sands to bring a little joy into my sometimes-monotonous life. It amazes me how she can keep the Argeneau family saga going, how each story is new and different, how she doesn’t repeat a storyline. I can always count on her to keep the story fresh and new. She has a way to blend the perfect balance between intrigue, love, humor and some smoking hot sex. But, this is actually one of the first books that I was a bit of a problem with. I just couldn’t relate to Sarita. She just came off as way over-the-top at times and kind of had me cringing. I also missed the back-and-forth between all my favorite Immortals. Except for the beginning and the end of the story, there wasn’t any interaction with the Argeneau family and I love that soooo much in her books. Other than that, I was happy with the way the story played out, with the flawless writing of Lynsay Sands. I’ll never tire of reading about the Argeneau’s and I always look forward to whatever she releases … from her Paranormal Romance to her Medieval Romance to her Highlander Romance, I am always thrilled when she releases a new book and can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Part of the reason I keep reading this series is for the humor and crazy situations. No humor in this book. It was dark and horrifying.

We have a new Immortal here called Domitian Argenis and a female cop named Sarita Reyes. This is the book where the Rogue Hunters finally find the kidnapping mastermind, Dr. Dressler and recover their kidnapped kinsmen.

I'm hoping that this series will move on from this mad scientist business back to the funnier situations of the series beginning.

I wonder how these silly people manage to survive thousands of years when they always forget they have superpowers at inconvenient times?!?

The plot of this book makes no logical sense, but it is at least more enjoyable reading than the last several books in this series.

The mad scientist experimenting on, and torturing people trope grosses me out. Glrgh. I miss the humour that was the highlight of the early books in the series. Replacing it with schlocky horror is not my cup of tea. (Sorry to break it to you, Ms. Sands, but running with unsheathed knives in your thong panties and the consequences thereunto is not humorous, it's just stupidity.)

I do notice that by expanding her paranormal repertoire to the hybrids allows this series to continue interminably and exponentially...on, and on, and ooooonnnnnn..... Are you ready for that? This book definitely took on a Christine Feehan directional influence.

Sands is back with the 25th installment of the Argeneau series and it's still going strong with Immortal Unchained.

Domitian is an ancient vampire that found his life mate when she was still a young human. Instead of claiming her, he decided to give her some time to grow up and live. But did he wait too long? You might think that, when he finds himself chained and in the hands of the mad scientist they’ve (the Argeneaus) been battling for years. To top it off, Sarita is pulled into the labs by nefarious means and is at risk as well.

I do have to say, Sarita is a much bigger person than I, faced with Domitian’s world…and the lab. Being a cop might help her cope with the strange but seriously how much can one person be expected to accept.

Stuck on an isolated island off Venezuela, Sarita and Domitian soon discover the experiments have gone much deeper than anyone had imagined.

Putting the fiery, Sarita and Domitian together was pure genius on Sands part. It's like the perfect sweet, Domitian, and spicy, Sarita sauce.

If you are a paranormal romance fan then Immortal Unchained shouldn’t be missed. You can't help but connect with the action, steaming hot romance, a dash of darkness... It is entertainment reading at its best.

I received this ARC copy of Immortal Unchained from Avon in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication March 28, 2017.

I have read every one of these books and while this one was better than many of the recent ones, it was not the addicting funny story we used to get in this series. My first less than 4 Star review in this series.

The couple of Sarita and Domitian was good but the romance was almost missing I felt. The story was told with glacial slowness I felt and if I did not love this series so much I may not have finished it at one point BUT it does end up pretty nicely if rushed in comparison to the rest of the book.

Bottom Line: The story kept your attention for most but not all of the book. The mad scientist thing is really old but done well enough. The humor and romance that used to be the mark of this series was almost nonexistent. I started to give it 4 Stars but dropped it to 3 after considering all the things that we did not get to see in this book. 3 almost 4 Stars.

This is 2 1/2 stars and I'm bumping it down because I think I've bumped too many of these up for the last 10 or so. Parts were OK and parts good but it really only was OK in the end. There was no laughs at all for me and a few parts where I thought, that couldn't happen because he could have just read the person. If you are in an operation military or police, you would always be on alert and read everyone, yet... Oh, it was such a stupid set up and ending that I'm left with a meh feeling and wondering again, 'why do I continue to read this series'. Here it was island of doctor Moreau, and not a very good one. **sigh**

Read my 25% update because it pretty much is the same throughout.
25%-I really don't know why I continue to read this series other than it was a favorite PNR, with many of the first 14 making it to my favorites (though there were a couple in there that were not good IMO). The last 10 books have been OK/good to good but none have been really good or great, not since hungry for you. They are now frequently convoluted, trying too much to make a great back ground story, while the couple are so attracted that they cannot think straight, making them either hot or idiotic. The only problem is either one or both fail to interest. So far both the story and couple are pretty bad in this one. It is too obvious what the doctor is trying to learn, trying to turn, yet he knows so, so much and hasn't figured this out. Wow! And the couple doesn't stop first and think about this situation but kidnapped they start getting jiggy with it.

Then there is the lack of humor. It used to be that I would love these for the humor but now, it is lucky to have a laugh or two. In the beginning here she stupidly carries knives while in a dark unknown room, down stair, and ends up cutting herself. I think she was trying to make it clumsy and funny but it ended up just inept and idiotic. She says she is clumsy yet she is this tough police officer. Hmm... clumsy police officer, also stupid to not know her own limits, hmm... I almost feel like doing a DNF at this point 28% in. I keep on hoping that she will close out this kidnapping wacko doctor line and she will go back to the boy meets girl and one has to slowly figure out how to introduce the idea of the paranormal with all the bumps and trips, but I guess that ship has sailed. Well I guess I'll push on through. **sigh**

Solid entry into the series. The set up was interesting and we learned a lot about the current bad guy in the over arcing plot. Looks like the author might be setting up a new story line with the mutant species. We'll see I guess.

Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy:

IMMORTAL UNCHAINED is the twenty-fifth book in the Argeneau series, and I’m sad to say it is the last one I will read. It wasn’t so much that it was bad, but it was so similar to so many other things that have happened in previous books that I felt I was reading the same passages over and over again. Although the 23rd book had me excited for the new direction the series was taking, when we got there, it wasn’t worth it.

Sarita and Dominitian are both the same kind of characters we’ve been seeing from this series for a while now She’s strong willed and has a semi-tragic past. He’s a few millenia old and just now rediscovering what life is all about thanks to her. Sweet, but nothing that wasn’t sorted out in the first books.

There were also a few things I hated about this book. The “vampires from Atlantis” was once again boringly explained, this time by an evil doctor who spells it out to Sarita before drugging her and sending her to a secluded love nest with her life mate, Dominitian. He wanted to observe life mates in a “natural setting”, so he puts them up on a deserted island full of cameras, and he only provides a closet full of negligees and two piece bathing suits for Sarita to wear.

The most frustrating part for me was the incredibly obvious way out of the whole situation which they all ignored until things got really really bad. If you have super-powered people at your disposal, why are you going to try and bypass security to reach the only phone on the island? It just took time and made sure that the next book was easily telegraphed.

I feel like I’m betraying the author, the characters and the series, but I feel an editor somewhere should have stepped in and let her know her know that maybe, just maybe, twenty-five books to a series is about 15 too many.

Even though this is the 25th book in this series, I did not read any of the previous ones before reading this book. I didn't think it effected me reading this book so I would say that, if you wanted to, this book could be read as a standalone.

I thought the storyline was sort of interesting.

I liked that the author had a different take on vampires than what I have read about before. Although I found it interesting, I didn't find the vampires to be very appealing. I'm not sure whether this was due to the author's portrayal of vampires but I just felt that the were lacking something.

Although I didn't enjoy this book as much as I was hoping, I would give other books in this series a try.

4.5-5 stars

This was a great story and addition to the series. Sarita and Domitian were both characters I really liked and their story was really good and kept me interested and engaged throughout.

Sarita is a cop that lives in Canada. Sarita was born in Venezuela, but her family moved away from there when she was very young, right after her mother died after a failed kidnapping. Sarita and her father moved to Canada to get away from the violence in Venezuela. Now, Sarita has lost all of her family except for a Grandmother that she's never met that still lives in Venezuela.

Domitian is an Immortal, a type of vampire originating in Atlantis that are made through the use of nanobots. Domitian is very old and has been waiting for a long time for his lifemate, the one person that's meant for him. He finally found her 15 years ago but she was only 13 years old at the time, way too young for Domitian to claim her. Domitian decided to wait until Sarita was grown and had spent 2 years in her chosen career before he moved to Canada to woo her.

Sarita is called to Venezuela because the Doctor her Grandmother works for, called to say she'd had an accident and needed Sarita. When Sarita arrives, she's given the run around and isn't allowed to see her Grandmother. When Sarita makes a move to find the mysterious Doctor to see what's going on, she finds that he's performing horrible experiments on Immortals that he's captured in an effort to see how others can be transformed. The next thing Sarita knows, she's been drugged and moved to a small home that seems to be remote and only reachable via a boat. The Doctor gave Sarita a brief overview of Immortals before he drugged her and once she wakes up, she finds her only companion in this place is an immortal named Domitian. They're lifemates and even if Sarita isn't sure how much of anything she's been told is true, she does find that she has an unnatural attraction for Domitian.

Domitian ended up on the island with Sarita after working with the Hunters that were looking for the Doctor that's been kidnapping immortals. Domitian decided to do this when he found out that the Doctor got Sarita to come to his island and Domitian feared for her life. Once they're trapped together, Domitian has to convince Sarita they're meant to be while figuring out a way to escape and notify the hunters about where the captured immortals are being held. Sarita is a very independent woman so there is some conflict as Domitian feels the need to protect her as much as possible while she wants to be part of things, convinced her human police training will allow her to achieve the needed goal. This is true to an extent but also, not really. Regardless of their disputes about how to handle things, with the help of some unexpected allies, Domitian and Sarita are able to get help and fix the bad situation they're in ending the story starting a HEA together.

I greatly enjoyed this story. I really liked Sarita and thought she was a great heroine. She didn't completely understand her own limitations at times and got in a bit of trouble in her efforts to protect Domitian but I still couldn't help but like her. Domitian was great. Although he's been a warrior in the past, he hasn't been one recently and yet he didn't hesitate to go into the fray to save Sarita and I loved that. Overall, the story was great and kept me interested until the end so I'd definitely recommend it. :D

* note - I listened to the audio version of this story and the narrator did a really good job.

I think this series has really lost its touch - I would even go so far as to question if the last books were really written by the same person as the first ...

The humor that used to be a trademark in this series is gone - in its place is the same story on loop where only the character names change - and lately even those seemed borrowed as I noticed in the last book.

Adding in this one comes that it feels like a retelling of "The Island of Dr. Moreau"... Please Dear Author I loved the first books in that series so much - if you have no new ideas to install - you should let this series rest until you do ....

I do not want to loose my love for this series and therefore this will be the last book I read until I have reason to believe something has changed...

huh !
I usually like those but this one was creepy and sad as hell.
Or I grew up and am over steamy vampire romance.
Thing is I don't think being kidnap by a brilliant mad scientist and put on the 21 century version of honeymoon pseudo paradise with camera all over and being stuck with another guy who stalked me unaware for 15 years, as steamy or romantic.

Loved the two main characters. Sarita the mortal 'Buttkicking' cop and Domitian the immortal hot, steamy chef!

I received this ARC copy of Immortal Unchained from Avon in exchange for a honest review.

I really enjoyed this love story, but I did find a couple of plot holes that are kind of bothering me. Lynsay always writes funny elements into her story and those were great. This book has a little darker plot as we are still in the Dressler arc. I would certainly recommend this book to all of Sands' fans.

Argeneau #25 is set in Venezuela and Domitian Argenis is the hero. Turns out that his branch of the family name is the governing factor in Spain and our leading male is a well known chef in this lifetime.

Having found his life mate Sarita when she was too young to claim/court Domitian has watched out for her for the past 15 years and was planning on giving her several more until the decision was taken out of his control.

Stranded together on a small island after being basically tricked by an evil genius villain the pair bond and everything as they were supposed to, up to a point which Miss Sarita determines is her limit.

As per the course of previous stories in the book best laid plans and all that become moot, the couple stop fighting fate and all is happy ever after.

At least until the next book anyway.

Nice read for escapism with my favorite group of characters and 2 new ones as the main female/male leads.

After 25 books, the series takes a new turn in this installment, with a theme initiated in the latest novels, (the mad evil scientist).
This one has an unambiguous flavor.
We finally meet the new villain in the flesh, and the plot shows lots of fresh possibilities for the future.
It could mean a spin-off series, and/or another evolution for future Argeneau novels, we'll see...
Nice that after all this time, Lynsay Sands still manages to keep her readers enticed ;)

I really didnt like this book at all, I ended up skipping to the last 30min just to hear how it ended.
I am not sure it was the storyline, but I really disliked the narrator which I think had a lot to do with it.

Though Sands writes well, I didn’t really enjoy this story. I never identified with either Domitian or Sarita. They spent so much time stranded on the island together and their budding romance should have been exciting but wasn’t really. Their sexual encounters didn’t match my expectation for steaminess. The dangerous times never got me worried for their fate.

I’ve not read the series so I wasn’t aware of Sand’s interpretation of vampires and even that disappointed me. I guess I like my vampires darker coming from evil, living horrid lives except the rare one who can fight his being and love a human. There was no serious inner conflict for Domitian or Sarita in their human-paranormal creature relationship. She even accepted her fate easily after being turned while unable to make the decision herself.

I’m sure fans of Sands will enjoy this book especially if they’ve been with her through the entire series.

Review also on my blog: http://nextbookaroundthecorner.blogsp...

Since I accidentally stumbled across the 7th book of the Argenau series of Lynsay Sands (The Accidental Vampire, what's in a name...), I was sincerely spoiled. Ever since, all vampire books I read are measured against the Argenaus... So when I saw Immortal Unchained (# 25 in the series) on Netgalley, I just had to request it. And yay, I received the ARC. I was a little hesitant, because after more than 20 books on the Argenau family, the action seemed to be getting a little less in the books 21 and 22. The yummie Notte twins (Dante and Tomasso) fortunately had more action in books 23 and 24. And in this book, Lynsay picks up the pace. We had already seen, that there were some immortals disappearing in those books. And although Lucian (my absolute favourite Argenau) was trying to find them, he was not able to.

Enter Domitian. We start the book with Lucian growling (when is he not growling...) into Domitian's earpeace, not to go on board of the helicopter. But of course, Domitian gets on the helicopter... and ends up chained to a table in a secret lab.

Fortunately, Domitian is untied by Sarita, his life mate. If you haven't read any of Lynsay's books: she is THE ONE for him. But since she is a 'normal' mortal woman, she knows nothing of vampires (excuse me: immortals). However, she gets a crash course in vampires by Dr. Dressler, a mad scientist doing gruesome experiments on them.

Of course there is this undeniable attraction between Sarita and Domitian, which will lead to some hilarious and also steaming scenes. But, as a true Argenau story, there is a lot of action, some unexpected turns and some very intriguing characters. For instance, we meet Thorne, the son of Dr. Dressler and Asherah, the assistant of Dr. Dressler. Right untill the end, you don't know who will be part of the good guys or part of the bad guys. With the exception of Dr. Dressler of course, who is just pure evil.

Furthermore, we re-unite with some of the characters of the earlier books, like Victor (my first Argenau encounter), Nicholas and Jo (The Renegade Hunter, #12), Decker and Dani (The Immortal Hunter #11), Lucern (Single White Vampire #3), Eshe (Borne to Bite, #13) and Mirabeau (Bitten by Cupid, #12,5). And of course Lucian (Bite me if you can, #6).

So of course, five out of five stars from me! And looking forward to book 26! Keep up the good work, Lynsay.

Ever since Domitian Argenis recognized Sarita as his life mate, he’s been waiting for the perfect moment to claim her. Those fantasies did not include him being chained to a table in a secret lab or both of them being held hostage by a mad scientist. Somehow, they have to escape…
Sarita has seen some crazy things as a cop, but nothing to rival Domitian. A vampire? Seriously? But his healing ability, incredible powers, and their mind-blowing physical connection—none of it should be possible, yet her body knows differently. Now, not only do they have to save each other, but other innocent lives are at stake. Failure is not an option, for Sarita intends that Domitian show her exactly what an eternity of pleasure feels like.
May I just say I miss the humor. I also don't care for the villain in this book. Not that I don't like the villain, I just don't care, I want a new villain this one is no good, and he got away so we will have more of him in another book. I did like Sarita and Domitian but their story feel a little flat for me.
