Steadfast Love - Bible Study Book: A Study of Psalm 107

Rate this book
There are times when worship overflows effortlessly from a heart full of gratitude and praise. And there are times when God seems far and we feel we have nothing to offer. Throughout it all, God shows us His steadfast love.

Psalm 107 is a call to worship. It reminds us that each season of life is an opportunity to reveal the anchor of our souls. In this 7-session Bible study, learn to face both storms and deserts with courage and trust in Jesus, and discover how tests in our journeys of faith reveal the true condition of our hearts. For there is no fear for the one who fears the Lord, the one whose soul is anchored in His steadfast love.

This was my summer bible study and it was wonderful! I wasn't sure how someone could weave a good study out of Psalm 107, but it was exactly what I needed! So many portions of this study spoke exactly to my present needs. I recommend this study to anyone that is going through a struggle, big or small, and look forward to future studies by Lauren Chandler.

I liked some of the in depth look at the text; things I would have missed that gave greater revelation to Scripture. Some of her insights were really eye opening! However, so much of the study felt like busy work or seemed completely unrelated to the main text. If it's claiming to be a "study on Psalm 107" then it should actually study the text at hand.

Just finished this study in my women's bible study. I liked it, but wished the video segments that accompanied the book were longer. There is a lot more self introspection required rather than bible study teaching, however it was interesting to spend 7 weeks studying one Psalm.

I didn't expect much here to be honest, but I found at least the first 4 lessons to be engaging and challenging. After that it seemed a bit redundant. I think this is written more for early believers as it really adds nothing new to the conversation (and reruns a lot of good old standard clichéd metaphors and examples) but the application questions, if worked honestly, were good. The rehash of Old Testament passages that are pretty well-known to any seasoned believer was tedious simply because, again, they did not add anything new (but would have been very beneficial to someone who had not already studied those thoroughly). Finally, I found her videos to be shallow and uncomfortably unprofessional in delivery. The 'just-one-of-the-bible-study-girls' approach leaves me flat when we are looking to the presenter to lead and teach, not sit at the table with us and commiserate or share her story. It's a style thing, and I think it appeals more to that millennial generation who is looking more for 'shared experience' than solid doctrine. All said, I might consider another study as I found this one well written. But the videos would hold absolutely no appeal, and I think the study would actually benefit from eliminating them. They really add nothing of value to the study itself and seem almost gratuitous.

I agree with the comments that it isn’t so much a study about Psalm 107 (although that is the focus of the teaching messages and is referenced a little in the book), but it is more of a study on overcoming hardship (as she mentions, as her family dealt with a seizure/cancer situation right before thanksgiving and a trip to Disney).

It is the perfect study Thanksgiving/November bc she references Thanksgiving several times, as it is a psalm of thanksgiving. Esp loved v43 today, ““Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things; let them consider the steadfast love of the Lord.” She said, “God is good. He will turn rivers into desert (v33); He will dry up wells. He will make it hard for us, so we can see all the false anchors, all the dried up wells and we will turn to Him. We will begin to see these things as a place of blessing where we can consider His steadfast love. ❤️ Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his steadfast love endures forever. For some this may be a great study but, for me, it was anything but. I just could not seem to follow her. At times it felt as if she went through her concordance & pulled out verses, in the middle of a thought, that had a certain word in it. My study group had a difficult time completeing homework when she consistantly did not say which Bible version she was using. We did not find the video "teaching" to be such; it was mostly her reading the verses to be covered that week. I know this is her first go-round in writing a Bible Study; unfortunately, my group has not enjoyed this study & are looking forward to being done with this.

My first Lauren Chandler Bible study and I hope she writes more. I highly recommend this one for beginner Bible study groups. Even seasoned groups would love this study and her message. It is direct, engaging, beautifully written and inspirational. I loved the companion videos that accompanied each week's study. Not too long, but enough to set up the reader for the next week's study.

I did this study on my own, at a very leisurely pace. I enjoyed it - found it encouraging. as we go through the tough things in life, whether or not those hard times are just life, or things we’ve gotten ourselves into. We know God is there either way. This study is a good reminder.

Some good points and lots of work looking up scriptures. Just when I thought I could skip over some parts, the very ones I wanted to skip captured my attention. I think she could be more succinct. Also, the videos that accompanied the study were not my favorite.

It is not a study for adults with a good understanding and well read in scriptures. It has no depth.
I felt like an elementary student reading a paragraph and answering who, what and where.

Loved the first week and then after that it was kind of depressing really constantly talking about being lonely in the desert. Like the Psalm.

The thoughts in this study were not well organized. Many questions were worded in a confusing manner. Compared to other studies, this felt repetitive, tedious and basic.

It had valid points and is a good Bible study, we watched the video along with the book. It was just different than the summary of the book led me to believe.
