Wouldn’t it be great to get what you want at the flick of a switch? Just think what you could get….or get rid of.
Twelve-year-old Lucas thinks life would be miles better if he could just sort out a few issues. For one thing he’s lost all hope of credibility at school following his embarrassing first team debut. For another the girl he secretly fancies constantly teases him. And then there’s his irritating sister. That’s when discovering an old light switch with magical powers comes in handy. With the switch at his fingertips, it seems Lucas will have the world at his feet.
Or so he thinks.
The light switch has a dark side too. That’s why it’s the Which Way Switch…
The first time I read this I wasn't sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. It made me smile, it made me giggle and it even made me a little tearful. I even found myself pondering over the table Archie and Lucas had devised, trying to work out if I could discover the secret behind the switch. I could totally relate to the childish sense of humour of the characters, maybe because I haven't grown up secretly. The angst of first love, (while trying to deny it to friends, who only want to make fun of you because they can tell you're smitten,) brings a reality and truth to this story that everyone young and old can relate to. Poor Lucas cannot resist flicking that switch, even when things are going just fine,( why would you do that?) then finds his world is tossed this way and that again. Archie is drawn into the unpredictable situations but stays Lucas' dependable friend as any best friend should be. Jessica is a real tease and a distraction because she knows Lucas fancies her. The situations, settings and characters are easy to relate to in most people's modern day lives, I love the story and the secret of the unpredictable switch, which I wasn't able to predict. And what has grapefruit got to do with it? I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good story, not just those who are aged 9 to 12.
