Jonah: A 30-day Devotional on Running, Rescue, and the Incredible Depth of God's Love

Rate this book
The book of Jonah contains what is certainly among the most familiar narratives of the Bible. There is a running prophet, a man overboard, three days in the whale’s belly, and the merciful sparing of Nineveh.

Jonah, however, is no mere moral narrative. And it is certainly not a story reserved for children in Sunday School classrooms. Jonah is complex and deep, simultaneously offering doctrine and didactic.

Jonah runs from his calling and seems to be living a life of cognitive dissonance. Jonah comes to grips with the terrifying reality of living life opposed to God and, only then, finds his way into the belly of the famous whale. Jonah finds hope under the waves, praying a profound and beautiful prayer that is as instructive as it is inspirational. Finally, Jonah reaches Nineveh and watches as God’s mercy is vividly displayed.

This devotional intends to provide an understanding of Jonah beyond the familiar and to show how the journey of Jonah is very much relevant for those on the journey of faith today.

My prayer is that Jonah will come alive again in these pages and, whether we're currently on the run from God or resting deep in His rescue, bring renewal to our lives and the lives of others as a result.
