I seldom leave poor book reviews unless I feel an element of concern around it's contents, and this is one of those books. In my opinion, it completely misses the point with regards to teaching people what constitutes a healthy diet based on science that is now emerging which tells us low fat diets and sugar are the main culprits for the current obesity epidemic. There's just a little too much use of 'light', 'semi-skimmed' and 'white flour' in the recipes and sugar features quite often. There's even a beef stew recipe that tells you to add a teaspoon of sugar. Sugar. In a beef stew. Satiety is important and this is what a diet rich in healthy fats deliver. The addition of sugar and white flour into so many foods now is making us hungry. The only thing that is sound is fasting. It IS the answer where weight loss and health benefits are concerned. I didn't read this for the diet, as I simply fast for 24 hours three times a week while cutting sugar right back to an occasional treat, eating lots of healthy fats and avoiding white flour at all costs. That is it, and the weight is melting away while I'm not hungry. It's important to send out the right messages about what is making us obese and I'm sorry, but the recipes - which were what I was looking for in downloading the book - miss the mark on offering the kind of nutritional education we need to put us on the right track for good. I don't doubt you would lose weight following this plan, but I do doubt you will fix the problems sweet, diet and white flour foods are doing to you in terms of insulin resistance and gut flora. Sorry, but with a little look again at the recipes I think this could be a useful book.
**This book was given to me by the author, as a part of the read-and-review program on ChoosyBookwarm.com**
This was the first ever "diet" book I've read and it was definitely a pleasant surprise for me! IT was definitely not boring and I enjoyed reading and implementing it. What I liked most about it, was that there was a very important test in the beginning, that made me think a lot about my eating habits.
It was a pleasant read and definitely worth my time!
