It's been a while since I read a fantasy novel, but this reminded me of why I like the genre. The author has a narrative voice that lends itself well to world building, and I followed this book just fine even though I hadn't read the previous two. The elaborate descriptions did slow me down at times, and the use of an omniscient POV took a while to adjust to, but that may have just been me. A solid four star novel!

This one I am finding quite hard to review. I found that although the dialogue was rich and that the story painted a picture with words that it may have been slightly too Descriptive and that the descriptions overtook the story a bit. The story itself could have been a lot shorter as alot of the descriptions took up alot more words than needed. The storyline itself was quite good and interesting in parts and there was bits that were filled with suspense. I found the story of Lelu and Bilu was quite emotional. However, overall, for me the story did seem to drag a bit too much and apart from certain parts it was a bit too slow for me.
I would, however, recommend this to fans of Lord of the rings and fantasy but it was just unfortunate it seemed it just wasnt the book for me

*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

I have worked with Susi Wright before so I knew the style of writing and narration I was getting into when I agreed to read and provide a review for this book. Wright is addicted to detail, that is the first thing I will say about this book and I don’t necessarily mean that in a bad way.

On a positive note: the wording and descriptive phrases used were phenomenal. I could perfectly imagine every situation, character, and location and I appreciated the little things such as the weather, the color of a character’s eyes, the way their hair moved when they tossed their head back, the feel of the warmth of the sun. All the minor details added up to a bigger picture which demonstrated all the care and effort put into this book.

Now, the only thing I didn’t like about all the detail was that it sometimes felt like there was too much. The first example is that there was a preface and a prologue. I’ve said it before and I’ll shamelessly say it again, I don’t like “pre” or “pro” anything, I don’t read them. Just no. Granted, some prologues actually contain vital information that may help prevent any confusion in the story. But I just don’t like them. Whatever needs to be said should be included in the story. BUT this is a personal preference and has no weight on my review.

What does carry some weight in this review is that the story could’ve been about half as long as it was. As much as I enjoyed and appreciated every detail and description, it felt like the book was 70% description and 30% story. I probably sound like I’m contradicting myself right now. What I mean to say is, the story was written well, the detail was beautifully crafted, but there was just too much of it.

Now back to the positivity. This story is a great addition to the fantasy genre. It has a fine, balanced mix of YA characters, struggles, and attitude, with the maturity of a strong and imaginative fantasy novel. Even though this book is part of a series, I think it’s good enough to stand on its own but that doesn’t mean the rest of the series should be forgotten. I would recommend this book to readers of all ages. Those who enjoy fantasy and YA fiction will definitely want to check out all three books.

A wonderful coming of age story set in a fantasy world…

The Alliance ensures peace and protection. So when one of the Alliance's allies, the Morvian, are threatened by a brutal, carnivorous species, then Lord Luminor summons the army of the Known Kingdoms and sets out across the Impossible Mountains to come to their aid. The journey is fraught with danger, and Lord Luminor's powers are not as strong as they once were thanks to a mysterious illness.

Essie, daughter of Lord Luminor, has been hiding her true powers from everyone, for like her brother she is half human. An unknown. But while she embraces her powers, albeit secretly in some cases, her brother struggles with his. When he looks upon his sister, he feels resentment and jealousy. He wants to have what she has. He wants it all. But will he be able to keep control of his anger in these desperate times of war?

Susi Wright has captured the essence of this fantasy world with her use of descriptive prose and rich dialogue. The world this book is set in comes across so vividly that it was very easy to get lost in the pages and time flew by while I was reading.

Legacy: Book #3, the Fire Chronicles is a coming of age story. Essie is an incredibly well-drawn character. She wants to do right by everyone, even her enemies. She is a genuinely lovely young lady. I also enjoyed the gently love story that accompanies this character. I think Ms. Wright has portrayed her beautifully. Well done.

The backdrop of this story is stunning, and I was happy to get lost in the world that Ms. Wright has created. I enjoyed the story, the plot, and the characterization.

If you like fantasy worlds with good vs. evil, then you are going to love Legacy: Book #3, the Fire Chronicles. This book works perfectly as a standalone, in fact, I haven't read the other two books, and by the end of Chapter 1, I knew exactly what was going on. I will certainly be looking to read the rest of the books in this series.

I Highly Recommend.

I must admit I am not an ardent Y/A reader, but I do love fantasy. This book combines the genre, which so popular for Young adults, and a very well written story that I think is perfectly suitable for all readers, regardless of age.

The 3rd in the Fire Chronicle series is the only one I have read and so I am a little upset with myself for not reading the previous two books first.

The plot and story are well documented on this review page, so I will not give away any more spoilers. I will say that it was very entertaining, packed with good writing, great characters and with a very original premise.

I will now read the other two, as I found this book to be concise and able to stand on its own. I hope the others are as good as this one.If they are I am in for a real treat.

Well done. Great read 5*

This book is as enjoyable and well-written as the first two in the series. I see potential for book 4 and look forward to it.

Susi Wright reminded me why I used to read so many fantasy book in my youth. This is the best fantasy book I've read in years, it has the aura of Lord of Rings, Shannara Chronicles, and other wonderful books belonging to great authors. The world she has created was so rich and wonderful with many characters and side characters that draws you in. As I was reading it, I thought I was watching a movie and I didn't want it to end. I have lived all the scenes with Gaians who have magic, Luminor who is the Lord of Fire and Destroyer, his daughter Espira ( a strong and young female figure many young readers will love on the spot), Ji, the brave human who conquers his ego for love, cocky Cymbian leader Shuul, the Morivian child, La-pool (what a lovely name), Finn and Lulu....This is not just a fun fantasy novel, but so much more. The author also touches upon important themes with the massacre of Morivians by Zorg giants, and the prejudices against these species when they live as refugees in the Yengi community. A reviewer in here said there were too many descriptions and the book could have been half the size. I couldn't agree less. That is what makes this book beautiful and what makes it possible to for the reader to visualize every scene as if it was unfolding in front of one's eyes. It was long, I wanted it to be longer. If you are an avid reader (and not a fast food reader) you will love this. As someone who has read hundreds of fantasy books, I can assure you this is something you don't want to miss. This was my first book from this author. Though this was the third book in the series, I did not feel I was missing anything. I delved right to the adventure without any confusion. The author has done a wonderful job in writing this as a stand-alone novel. But, why should I be missing the rest of the fun? I enjoyed it so much, I will go back and read the first two books in the series.

3.5

If you love epic fantasy, great characters and dragons, you'll really enjoy this book. This book is packed with action and extensive world building. It is the third book in The Fire Chronicles Series, however, it can easily be read as a stand alone - there were a few bits at the beginning which were unclear to me at first which probably wouldn't have been if I'd read the other books, but they quickly became clear. I loved Espira, she was a great heroine and seeing her grow throughout the book was brilliant - this is a good coming-of-age story.

There were a couple of things that tripped me up though... Firstly, the use of exclamation marks! There were so, so many that it began to get annoying. Second, this author is a huge fan of description, which usually isn't a problem since so am I, however, I felt that in places it slowed the story down too much and I found myself drifting.

All in all though, I enjoyed this story and would recommend it to fantasy lovers who like a lot of description!

I recommend this book. The Author takes us into a whole new world which is described in great detail. If anything the detail does begin to get in the way as the book progresses. For me it would be absolutely perfect if it were a little shorter.
