Where should I begin? He sighed, his forehead falling to hers. "Astasiya, we have very little time to sort this before the Conclave. I need you to work with me. Both our lives depend on it. Lexi C. Foss is a new author to me, so I had no expectations going into this book. I knew it was a paranormal romance, and that was about it. Without giving it anymore thought, I decided to just dive in, and cross my fingers. I am happy to report that turned out to be a good decision.

Anastasiya ”Stas” Davenport has always known she wasn’t just an average girl. She has certain gifts that other human beings don’t that made that obvious to her from an early age. The problem is she has no idea why she has them, or what it all means.

On the day her best friend, Owen, is murdered, Stas runs into a handsome stranger named Issac that has the answers to all of her questions. He doesn’t just give them to her right away though. She has to agree to pretend to be his girlfriend first, and he will give her the information she seeks little by little. With no other options for getting what she wants, Stas agrees.

Issac Wakefield has supernatural abilities of his own, and the moment he meets Stas, he knows that she does, too. He is undeniably attracted to her, but that is not his only motive for wanting to keep her around. She might be the key to getting revenge on the man responsible for his sister’s death.

Blood Laws is a unique paranormal romance with a few twists and turns, some suspense, a complex world, likable characters, and plenty of steam. It wasn’t the fastest read for me, but that is because there is a fair amount of world building going on.

This is Lexi’s debut novel, and I think she did a great job of bringing something original to the table. She could have used well known mythological creatures with built-in lore, but instead she chose to create her own new and interesting world, and I applaud her for that. On top of that, she managed to get me invested in what happens to the main characters, so I will be reading the next installment very soon. If you are looking for something different in the paranormal romance or urban fantasy genre, I recommend this one to you!

Issac and Iya!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: ☹️🙃☺️😍
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Astasiya Davenport (a.k.a. Stas; a.k.a. Iya) - as a child she had an angel friend Gabriel, who promised to keep her safe. He brought her to a new family when she was no longer safe with her real parents. He promised to one day return. He said she would forget him and one day would be ready to learn the truth.

The Hero: Issac Wakefield - When Isaac comes across Astasiya, he is surprised that she is immune to his ability to manipulate the minds of humans and supernaturals alike when she is able to see him through his glamour. He hides her away and is determined to find out more about her. Isaac could live anywhere in the world, but resides in the city for the revenge that drives him. He leaves but plans to look into Stasiya’s background since she intrigued him so much.

The Story: When Stas goes to see her friend Owen, she sees a gorgeous man outside his door, who seems surprised that she can see him. After the door opens to another man Stasi smells burning flesh which gives her a flashback to her parents deaths and she knows something has been done to Owen whom was her friend, they were both supposed to graduate from NYU next week with masters degrees.

Issac is a demon hiding in plain sight in New York City as a billionaire playboy and CEO of a pharmaceutical company. He wants Stasa to pose as his girlfriend and he promises to give her information about what she is. Stasa agrees and things get steamy between them from the start of their partnership.

Narrated by Sarah Puckett and Joel Froomkin, this book was told in dual points of view via dual narration. Sarah Puckett has a soft feminine voice which is a bit monotone and unemotional sounding, so she wasn’t one of my favorite narrators, but her voice wasn’t annoying, so I kept listening. Joel Froomkin’s narration matched Issac perfectly, he has a cultured sounding voice which worked well for the wealthy Ichorian.

The one thing I disliked about this book was that they had names (Hydrarian, Ichorian) for immortals, and it took quite a while to figure out what exactly each of these was in our terms and how everything worked within the world of the book. Though the world was definitely intriguing and mysterious.

Blood-Laws-Teaser1

Wow!!
I adored this so so much, it was just such an imaginative and fascinating beginning to this series and one that I am most definitely on board and invested with all the way.
This author whilst relatively new to me has managed to pull it out the bag once again, this is the third book I have read by her and each one has managed to captivate and entrall from start to finish.
Definitely auto-buy for me now and I can't wait to see what she manages to bring forth next.
So, as usual, the world building here was up there with the best I've experienced to date and as an added incentive here the writing manages to drip-feed you into this fantastical world without confusing or totally overwhelming: very impressive undertaking indeed as the world is so vastly immense and intricate.
Each instalment in this series focuses on one couple, but there is an ongoing story arc that makes this a series that you will need to read in order if that makes sense.
This is actually a really hard premise to describe briefly but the short version to this is there are two opposing factions of supernaturals the Ichorians and the Hydraians who though currently at a ceasefire and a tentative declaration of a truce are actually on the brink of war breaking out.
Anastasiya Davenport and Issac Wakefield are somehow caught up in the middle of this conflict.
Obviously, there is a lot more to this than what Ive outlined here but that's the bare bones of it.
So characters: I adored the relationship dynamic between Anastasiya and Issac and the almost slow burn build up to there affair.
Though of slow burn in nature, this didn't miss out at all from that fact as there was plenty of sensual heated buildup provided to the main event.
The connection between these two was off the charts and projected off the page itself with its compelling intensity and I could feel their particular bond right down to my very bones themselves.
I also really did like Issac as a character and all his darlings and loves towards Anastasiya I found to be so incredibly charming indeed.
I especially appreciated Issac's ability to allow Aya to be her own person and make her own decisions regardless of how they impacted on his personal fear for her safety.
He respected her right to make her own choices which was refreshing.
Anastasiya I also liked but she could be a trifle naive in nature trusting a tad to blindly, she did get there eventually but always seemed to take the scenic route along the way.
In conclusion, this was a series that started with a massive bang and though we get some closure offered here there are still plenty of answers I'm waiting on to be revealed at a later date.
I for one can't wait to delve and explore deeper into this fascinating landscape we have been shown here.
This one gets my five-star seal of approval it was a fantastic experience that I recommend highly.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of "Blood Laws (Immortal Curse #1)".
All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

Randomly found this on Amazon last night and I bought it because I wanted a fantasy read and OMG. I devoured this in one sitting I couldn’t put it down. The romance was SO GOOD. I want Issac to call me “love”. I haven’t read fantasy in a while so it was a struggle to understand the world building at the start but once I got over that I was obsessed. Definitely recommend if anyone wants an adult fantasy. Can’t wait to read book 2!

Introduced through the means of a horrific crime, we meet Stas and Issac. She's there to visit one of her best friends. He's there to investigate the scene of her best friend's murder. She wasn't supposed to be able to see him. She was lured there. And they lived happily ever after... okay, so that's not exactly what happened, however, these two did start an insane 'relationship' at the scene of a massacre. What's hotter than that?

After a horrific introduction to the supernatural world, Stas finds out that she's not human. She's actually a hybrid, a fledgling immortal, and Issac is a centuries old immortal Ichorian. While this may seem pretty cool to everyone else, Stas is terrified... which she has every right to be. Ichorians and Hydrians are quietly at war, the people she trusts the most may not be the people she thought them to be, and there's a mysterious undertone that just might wreck her entire world. Issac may have initially been using Stas as a pawn for his revenge, but lucky for her, things change and his feelings for her evolved, and he was just the person to help her navigate the dangerous immortal world she's been introduced to. Who better to protect her from immortals than one of the world's most feared immortals?

Well written and entertaining, Blood Laws was a fantastic introduction to the Immortal Curse series. So much of this story is still untold and I can't wait to discover what happens next. I'm off to read Forbidden Bonds.

Color me confused. Color me absolutely, flabbergasted. I don't know what colors represent these feelings, but pick a color, any color, because at this point it doesn't even matter, just like this book. What did I just read?, but more importantly, what am I missing that has apparently lulled the entire Paranormal Romance section into a sense of awe, while leaving me flummoxed on the sidelines? Well we're going to attempt to figure it out, but get ready - unpopular view ahead.

I don't set out to be a hard ass, I really don't. I come into these books always ready to give five stars, when credit is due. I expect only what is promised to me by the synopsis (even taking into account that the synopsis may not be written by the actual author), and what the author promises me within her own prose. That's it. Blood Laws' synopsis promised me a hot romance between an immortal and a woman of mysterious origins. It also promised me a revenge storyline, that's it, nothing else. In turn, this is all I wanted. Then I started reading, and Foss began to promise me more, and I was on board - let me remind you that she's the one that started her story with a 200 year old immortal treaty - a classic case of high stakes immortal warfare that has bled into modern times. And before that, let me remind you that Foss even provided a glossary of terms to acclimate readers to her world, thereby promising me a story complex enough to require easy access to terminology. Now when I'm not reading PNR I spend a hefty amount of time in the pure fantasy category, so the glossary doesn't scare me, but it does increase my expectations. Again her doing, not mine. Then we set off at a run; there are Ichorians and Hydraians. There are fledgling immortals, conclaves, and blood laws. There is an organization including a paramilitary unit designed to destroy rogue supernaturals. There is so much, and I am so ready for it.

Foss starts out all right. Although I originally found the prose stilted, reading more like she intended to publish this in first person and changed her mind at the last minute, I continued on and at the beginning I really did enjoy myself. Insert Issac, typical hot male, made hotter by his immortality, with piercing blue eyes and an inhumanly long 8 pack (why do we even call them 8 packs anymore?, the 'packs' seem to multiply with each romance I read). He's sufficiently hot, and the chemistry is at least turned on ( I'm not going to vouch for how hot it is at this point, because who gets turned on at a murder scene?). Then there's Astasiya; who although I believe her name is missing a couple of letters, is female and blond, with a secret, so I guess she's typical. They meet at the murder of her best friend and she learns a lot more about the world then she ever thought she would, Isaac is intrigued because his immortal gift fails to work on her, and he enters 'attractive stalk mode', determined to figure her out. Noting her connection to the CRF he endeavors to use her as a pawn (a point he tells her UP FRONT ABOUT) as they enter into a relationship of convenience while he plots revenge. Things even begin to take a turn for the better right around the time drama ensues in the form of Astasiya's interview, and with the introduction of both immortal sides, the plot starts boiling. I believe at this point I was ready to hand out 5 stars. Lots of plot, excitement, and paranormal activities, check, check, check. This is also the point where everything comes crashing down.

Astasiya recovers, but apparently the plot doesn't. From here on we enter the realm I like to call 'Immortal Beach Bash', whereby lots of hot, sexy people congregate together to discuss 'plans of action' only to smooze by the pool in scanty bikinis. Immortal Beach Bash, or IBB, doesn't always have to take place by water, in fact, I would argue that it begins even before this foolish 50 page interlude. I'm going to broaden its definition to include - any instance by where plot should be deepened, expanded, or explored, which instead spends time using a dangerous situation to deepen the romance/sexy times, in the face of peril. This includes hiding in a closet making out while evil is after you, sitting on the lap of your dangerous monster during a immortal meeting that should be discussing the relationship between Ichorians/Hydraians, the status of the supposed treaty, why Hydraians are in New York, a place they are banned from, what Ichorians should be doing about it, et cetera, but this is all missing because of the IBB taking place in the front row including light petting and general 'security' make outs. Foss you made up the centuries old war, not me. Instead this 100 page plus interlude where we skate around plot in exchange for monotonous make outs is just not cutting it. And it's not cutting it because Foss promises plot. If you don't promise plot then I can't dock you for not having it. I literally just finished reading a 300 page book about a romance between a caveman and a modern woman who spend their entire time in a cave. I gave it 5 stars. I only grade you on what you promise to deliver.

Let me get away from my whine fest for a minute and add some supporting facts. There are so many areas of interest left unexplored. Isaac believes he has discovered a hidden fledgling immortal in Stas. They continue this forbidden relationship even though she shouldn't exist and he's an Ichorian, her mortal enemy. Foss includes a seemingly insurmountable amount of evidence supporting why their relationship shouldn't last, including her blood being toxic to him once she's turned, and her not being allowed to live with him in New York once she becomes a full-fledged Hydraian. She even includes this oddly perfectly shaped heart rune on Stas back suggesting she has come into contact with the little mentioned race Seraphim. I guess it's a good thing for their relationship that Foss never chooses to revisit, address, or answer any of these juicy plotlines, but don't worry, it hangs in Issac's thoughts enough to provide the appropriate amount of eye-rolling inner hero turmoil. I even thought at one point I had it all figured out. That Stas is not a fledgling but the byproduct of a union between a Seraphim and an Ichorian, which would eliminate their inability to be together and allow for a HEA. Even though it was predictable I was excited for the reveal and was hoping we may even get some wings in the process. Well jokes on me, Foss just chose to ignore it instead. And before anyone comes after me by claiming that this is a series, let me address this fact right here, right now. The second book features a new romantic couple. And although they are characters we previously have met in Blood Laws, the fact that the character POVs shift suggests, that while the plot (are we even calling it that anymore? how about connection of words? ehh, not quite, i'll work on it) can linger, character specifics should be wrapped up in the here and now. Why will I care about Stas reveal (if it exists) if we're focused on new people? Either keep the characters and their plotline, or complete both and move on.

If you can't tell from above, the Issac/Stas relationship, while very physical, is far from deep and/or lasting. It subsists on nothing more than trust issues, Issac's famous neck rubs, and 'kiss me quiet' moments. I was actually proud of Issac because he does what most male characters fail to do, and divulges truth at an appropriate interval (mostly), and doesn't leave Astasiya in the dark. Too bad every time he tells her something she doesn't believe,s he has to think overly hard, connect the dots in the most random ways, and rediscover what the reader already knows (because Isaac told the truth) 40 pages later. Then when they're not playing 'truth or dare', Astasiya's playing 'he loves me, he loves me not' as she constantly plays the wounded card every time it's brought to her attention that Isaac may actually be using her as a pawn for revenge, which he told her he would do back at the beginning (you forgot about that didn't you?) But guess what?!, he never actually uses her as a pawn because instead of actually showing up for orientation at her new job, which would get her closer to CRF (the paranormal organization) and Issac's revenge quest, we get naked in a pool, IBB style.

So in summation, by Blood Laws' end we have accomplished...nothing. Let me revisit my expectations. Plot - I'm going to downgrade it and just say I'm looking for the revenge plot only (even though Foss has opened this giant worm hole of interspecies warfare - which I will completely ignore, although I could write an entire other review about how it doesn't make sense that so many fledglings exist in New York, created by the same species set on their eradication, and that Osiris can't seem to find the Hamptons house Isaac keeps with his seven Hydraian bros and his Ichorian maker and progeny.) It's finally revealed Issac wants revenge against CRF for the death of his sister, who is, in a turn of unsurprising events, not dead. Fun fact, unless there's a body, I won't ever believe it, and even then it's questionable. Do we then get revenge? no. Do we save Amelia? no. So where did that plotline resolve too? Nowhere. Except to continue as her own storyline as Tom moves her to a safe shelter to keep her out of Stas' sight (and thus away from Issac). Instead of trying to resolve the actual plot of this story, Foss chooses to try and three-dimensionalize Tom as a character, providing him with one POV in hopes of convincing readers that he can be viewed as a romantic lead in the next book (never mind the fact that he's been nothing but horrible the entire way through). So do we have a plot? nope. Next, romance; I think I've sufficiently addressed this, but by the end are Issac and Stas even together? Well they're making out instead of saving Amelia, but are there even any confessions of love? nope. Will they be able to end up together? doubtful at this point since we never addressed any of the paranormal barriers surrounding them. So is there a romance? Not in my opinion. I was only promised two things, plot and romance. I got neither. But Foss, I'll do you one better, and give you two things, stars.

P.s. Dear Foss, Astasiya's power is that she can command and/or compel people to do things. Again, your definition, not mine. Persuade is NOT a synonym for Command. Please stop using them as such. It doesn't make sense.

It has come to my attention that my review is for a previous edition of this story so some of my concerns may have been addressed in the new edition. Apparently the new edition was released today 3/25/2019. My comments apply to the previous version only as I have not read the newer one. I hope that it does a much better job at tying the plot together. If the summary of this title still interests you please make sure that you are reading the updated edition.

Now this...this is PNR done right!!!! Smart, Suspenseful and Entertaining as hell!!!

It's been a bit since I've read PNR and even longer since I've read one as well written as Blood Laws. It ticked every one of my picky reader boxes and sent me straight into reader nirvana. Everything, from the world building, pace, plot, characters, to the romance was on point. Add in some humor, non-stop suspense and a twist I didn't see coming, and this author earned herself a class A stalker. I had no clue who Lexi C. Foss was until a few days ago and she damn sure didn't know who I was. Well......that situation has since been rectified. ;)

I loved that this plot and this world weren't spoon fed to the reader. It required some brain power and active reading to piece it all together that only served to make me even more invested in the story and heighten the suspense. But best of all, the romance was on point. This couple is mature, straight forward and snarky as hell. No stupid miscommunication leading to pointless drama. Stas and Issac were a breath of fresh air and the obstacles in their relationship came from real world issues. Well, as real as you're gonna get in a paranormal world but you get what I'm saying. The story and the characters stood on their own, without needing trumped up BS to add drama.

It is obvious that this author took her time to develop a story, characters and a world that are worthy of her readers! Kudos! And thank you, my friend, who pointed me in this author's direction. Muwah!

This was just amazing! I’ve read a bunch of books by Lexi C. Foss and I have loved every single one of them. This one was super PG in terms on sexy times compared to her other books, but it was still amazing nonetheless. The story was so engaging, the world building was so detailed and inventive, and the characters were so well developed that I felt like I knew them in real life. I was literally so deeply engrossed in this I didn’t realize that it was 3am by the time I finished this book. I cannot wait to start the next one!

First Impressions
Blood Laws is the first book in the Immortal Curse series and I have been itching to try more of this author’s work since her Blood Alliance series which is much darker than the Immortal Curse series. I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this one. I bought the first book as a whim when it was even a kindle freebie and I just knew that I had to grab it, but I do believe all of her books are in KU as well. So if you have KU, then this will be available to you. Blood Laws is a story that I went completely blind into and you don’t really need much prep for this series, it’s not as dark as some of her other books, it definitely had a more paranormal romance vibe to it which I really enjoyed. The chemistry is off the charts from the very first page, so I do think it’s a story that you will be sucked into pretty quickly. The world-building is done so well and such a fascinating concept of vampires and different species with various psychic abilities and I really liked the various levels of magic that we see implemented into this one here.

Summary
Astasiya has just discovered that her best friend has been murdered and when she discovers his body is when she meets the vampire demon lord who also poses as a human billionaire playboy. He is on the cover of all the magazines, but she doesn’t know what to think of him. There is an aura of danger around him but at the same time, she knows that there is a strong connection between them and that he has a plan for her. Astasiya has always known that fairy tales and happy ever afters aren’t real. She has always known of the paranormal world, as she is unique to it and has her own share of abilities. She also saw the horrors of her parents being burned alive right in front of her. But as Issac and Astasiya go on this adventure of discovery and matching each other’s wills, there is a level of trust that is slowly built between them. Issac has his own reasons for Astasiya but he also can’t deny his feelings for her or the love that is becoming more and more present between them.

What I Loved
There were quite a few things that I quite enjoyed. I really liked the writing, but it is less polished than the Blood Alliance, but I did love seeing some of her older writing before she wrote the Blood Alliance series and how her style has changed. I also loved the chemistry. This author definitely knows how to write such well mapped out chemistry that stays consistent throughout the whole book. We also see some superb world-building and I really appreciated that it wasn’t a brain dump at the beginning. We get details of the world with each chapter and I really respected that the author was able to expound on this style and make it work so well. Both of our main characters are superb in so many ways. They both have well-matched personalities, both very strong in vario8us ways. I loved the alpha behind Issac and how devoted he is to those he loves the most. Astasiya is strong in her own right but has a sweet personality as well that is highly relatable. I also loved how well we see Astasiya struggle and persevere in her way despite her differences. She really takes everything in stride and I really respected her character and how she doesn’t become bitter or spiteful at all for her circumstances. She has a level of grace that not all authors would write and I really adored her inner core of strength.

What I Struggled With
There were a couple of things that I struggled with. There were a few plot holes and normally I don’t notice these. And the pacing was a bit off. I think this is due to the fact that these books were written before her Blood Alliance and her writing has obviously grown between these two series being written. I also wished there was more of a HEA instead of an HFN. There also seemed to be such an abrupt ending and I really wanted some more happy finality to this story especially since book two features a different couple.

Overall View
I found Blood Laws to be an astounding read that was wrapped up in a beautiful package, its contents were thrilling and epic in its romantic entanglements that are portrayed. We see a sort of vibe that is hard to forget and remarkable in its little moments of sensuality and heartfelt emotion. I will definitely be coming back for more.

Stas has a secret. It’s deadly and she doesn’t fully understand what it means. She lost her parents when she was younger and she doesn’t know the extent of her heritage. The mundane world is about to crash into the supernatural one. Sta's is going to meet her best friend but when she gets there something is wrong. A mysterious man pulls her out of danger, but trouble is brewing. Her best friend has been murdered and everything she knows is about to change. The mystery guy is more than one can see. In fact, he has the ability to mask himself from our world, but he can’t hide from Stas. She has the ability to manipulate things. She sees the man that’s not supposed to be their and lucky for her it just bought her some more time.

This book is full of twists and the story flows nicely. It’s the first part in a supernatural series. She’s the key to everything she just doesn’t know it yet.

The mystery guy is devilishly handsome and influential in both worlds. He’s also just found a new weakness. Women normally fall at his feet and he gets bored, but he sees something special in Stas. What starts are a business arrangement turn into much more.

This is a romance novel and for mature audiences. This book has a little of everything. The billionaire playboy, supernatural hidden world and the evil force have come out to play. This is a continuous story and book one is just the beginning.

4 stars out of 5.

This is the first book in the Paranormal Immortal curse series by Lexi.

Anastasiya ”Stas” Davenport has supernatural powers that she has had to keep secret her whole life. She has always questioned those powers but had no one to seek answers from, that is until the day her friend is murdered and Issacs Wakefield appeared in her life offering her those exact answers. But those answers come at a price. She has to agree to pretend to be Issac's girlfriend first.

I have to admit I was a little confused at times what was going on and who was who but about an hour in it all started to flow and make better sense. There is a lot of mystery surrounding not only Stas but Issacs heritage. The more you find out the more you want to know. The longer you listen the harder it becomes to pull yourself away.

Sarah Puckett has a very methodical approach to all her audio books and this is one is no different. Her voice is so smooth and caressing you can't help but be captivated by her storytelling.

Joel Froomkin is a new narrator for me. It took some getting used to because I didn’t quite think he was the best fit for Issac. I love all the accents he did though and he made it easy to distinguish people apart. I just pictured more of a manly- deeper voice for his character.

Overall this was a great captivating and intriguing audio book. At 13hours and 41 mins it's definitely not a short audio but it's definitely worth the time.

I give it 4 Blushing Stars

Her kitap ayrı karakter sanıyordum.

Anastasiya (Stas) Davenport is an immortalw ho has the gift of being able to compel people do do as she says - only she has no clue of her heritage or what she really is - until that is, she meets hot and wealthy Issac Wakefield, another immortal, one that should see her as an enemy to be destroyed.

I wasn't entirely sure about Isaac at the start but then started to love him, especially for Stas.
Some good secondary characters I am curious to see more of. I hope Issac's

The ending of this has left me a little peeved, since so many strands have been left open, I know some answers are going to be given in book 2 but Isaac and Stas won't be the MCs - something that has me mentally stomping my feet, that being said I will be reading it.

The only thing missing from this book was worldbuilding. There was so little explained about the two races of immortals featured and what was going on between them, that the only reason I understood anything at all was because of a friend who read through later books already (Hey, Nel!). I'm not sure why author chose to do this or if this was even intentional but I wish there was more of a backstory.

I liked main characters though, it was refreshing how honest they were with each other, I'm looking forward to relationships they are building with each other and people around them. There are some characters I want to see more of, like Balthasar and Luc, maybe Lizzie. That, for me, means I'll keep reading.

Side note: Isaac is hot!

Date read: 3/4/17

My Rating: 5 stars

**Blurb**

"The lines between charade and reality blur as a dark romance brews between two unlikely soulmates....."

Stas isn't your average human. She can bend others to her will, a psychic talent she's kept hidden since the brutal murder of her parents.
Issac isn't human at all. He's an immortal masquerading as one of New York City's hottest bachelors while secretly seeking revenge against a former ally.
A fateful meeting ends in a seductive proposition. He'll teach her more about her gifts if she agrees to play girlfriend to his billionaire persona. As their lives intertwine, secrets are exposed and passion ignites. Its a bond built to last a lifetime, if they're willing to risk everything to protect it.

**My Review**

Anyone that knows me, knows that PNR is one of my favourite genres. I get really excited when I find a new paranormal romance. Now some are absolutely awful, but then there are these, hidden gems just waiting to be discovered.

Blood Laws is one such book. It's a continuing series with an overarching plot and is the debut novel for this author.

Stas is an immortal - only she isn't aware of it - until that is, she meets Issac, another immortal. Only Stas and Issac are meant to be enemies.

Issac, being a Ichorian isn't supposed to fall for a Hydrian - he's supposed to kill them - but in the beginning he finds that Stas may prove useful and sets out to use her to get revenge on the man responsible for the death of his sister. However as time goes on he can't and doesn't want to deny the attraction.

As a PNR, there's lots of drama, tension and a little bloodshed. Theres the mystery and the otherworldly-ness. To me, a good book, whether it be PNR, contemporary, sci-fi, horror or any genre, it has to all flow and have a consistency and this book had it in spades.

I didn't want to put it down, like at all. But real life got in the way, however, as soon as I picked that kindle right back up, I was there, smack dab in the story. It pulled me in and I love it when a book does that, it takes you away.

There's also plenty of hot immortals along the way. The way the author has described them gets me all hot and bothered and there are a fair few to choose from. It's not just the characters you can easily depict either, the way the scenarios are described are to the point and not overly detailed and I prefer that.

I loved Issac's and Stas' chemistry, I mean what a couple! Their chemistry was played just right, there was the banter and the flirting, there was the tension and the seduction, there was most definitely the sexy element. Altogether though the thing that drew me to them as a couple was just this freshness. I enjoyed reading about them and it felt like I was reading PNR with fresh eyes. If a book can do that then it has to be made of good stuff right?

Look don't just take my word for it, read it, I promise you won't regret it.

My only criticism? I'm left wanting more and I cannot wait for book 2.

Happy Reading :-)

My thanks to to the author for the ARC e-copy of this book.

4.5 🌟.

I accidentally Found this book free in amazon and thank god for that!

You should read this book solely for the world building. It was fantastic. From the prologue itself I was hooked. So much mystery and intrigue. And fascinating characters. Before you start reading I would strongly recommend reading the glossary. Because I didn’t notice it at first and started reading and got a bit confused.

This book is kinda dark and contains blood, gore and torture.
Isaac Wakefield the hero came as a jerk and jaded in the beginning but he grew on me. Except that, he was a playboy to the next level. There was too much subtle references/ information about his past conquests and experiences that it bothered me to no end. Like how many times do I need to know he had a thing for natural blondes or it wouldn’t be his first time booking a room upstairs after a gala or how experienced his hand felt at undressing. It irritated me to no end, hence the minus .5 stars.

Heroine Astasiya was such a strong and mature heroine, who soon became his world. They had chemistry and connection from the beginning itself.
So many things are left unanswered as I believe this book is just a beginning. So not a standalone.

There were numerous secondary characters who are intriguing and important to this world. I read in back-note that Isaac and Stas are going to get two more books in the series and I’m so happy to hear that.

If you love a a well written spicy paranormal romance I would recommend this.

°°°°°° Arc Provided For An Honest Review°°°°°
>>>>>>>>>>> 5 delirious Immortal Stars <<<<<<<<<

OMG!! Eeeekk.....

This story was A Mind blowing lovable Story.

Ughh.... I WANT MORE!!!!!
I want to just get lost in this Immortal world.

Listen peeps YOU NEED THIS BOOK!!

It was a pleasure filled with awe for reading this paranormal work that Lexi created for us.

You people need to give this story a chance.

Trust me it's not your ordinary story but there's something big happening here.

It's the kind of book where as you go by you'll be figuring out the story it's a thrill to go one on one with the character and getting to know about the Immortal world which lies ahead of us...

This is the author's Debut Paranormal book and to say she did an amazing job is the least!! I'm glad to get the Arc of this.

The Immortal paranormal World our dear Lexi Foss created has so much to it..

You know you get an itch or something when you are reading an something's there you can't pin point about but you are curious and you're curiosity is so itchy that you need to scratch it,

Believe me I got the itch while reading this book.

I'm was fascinated with this story.

Issac wooed me with his demonic ways and stas fiery attitude was killer!

Even though she was at lost in this world of Hydraian- Ichroian
She still stands on her own and was ready to pick the fight.
Like a lady on a mission to just grab the world by her hands.

To say more this is not only a Love story but a story where cruelty is revealed where innocent are tortured but then there's light..

A bright light which is waiting on the sideline to finish of the darkness to bring peace but there's one thing which always comes in the way and that's Fate.

Fate is one twisted thing.

You don't Know what's going to happen in a minute but you just want to take it as you receive it...

Stas had a rare power and she didn't even know it until she meets the cocky and incorrigible Issac.(enter dreamy sigh here)

Issac had a different power and was a Ichornian as for stas her identity will be revealed when you read the book.
(Trust me I don't want to spoil the books story)

But Issac and Stas had a chemistry, they had the ability to become a power couple but there were things that were against them but what played the biggest part was FATE!! Fate had already planned a sight a vision for them but let's see who wins it?

Also the love scenes was hot !! I kinda liked it it fitted perfectly and their scorching hot romance was mmmmm... Delirious!!

So that's it I just won't say more because this book has mysteries and it's better that you my Lovely Bookworms read side by side.

The actual fun will be when you'll read it and one by one all layers will be peeled .

I hope I did justice and properly reviews this book coz this story needs to be heard!!
Thanks for sending me the arc Lexi Foss and I hope You booklovers would read this.

The world that author Lexi C. Foss has created in her story, Blood Laws, is something that will stick with me forever. In one page she incite enough questions that lasted right up to the end. I love that there's always a pull to flip to the next page. Then back again. Part 2 can't come fast enough!!

At first Blood Laws seemed like the common books you find in a paranormal romance section. A hot powerful guy who make woman stupid In a world of mysterious paranormal powers.

HOWEVER it's not, it's very ORIGINAL with the introduction of Ichorians, Hybraian, Seraphim, Fledgling. There's more but that's not important right now. Plus you need to read it to know what they are :p

Honestly I was sucked in quickly and couldn't put it down. Stas is a woman who held herself together and was easy to like. Hints of the unknown and new made me frustrated right along with Stas just as the urge to keep going and learning was undeniable. I started to make a list of what's what's and who's who. As the story moves along I really liked it even more and the characters, not just the amazing hot guy, and his hot friends. Yes I said hot GUYS.

There's a lot to this story, it's hot, it's shocking, it has a dusting of comedy, and a lot of mystery. Throughout it all there are Easter eggs just waiting to be found and picked up. It explained more and more as the pages are turned. Once pieced together, and the list forgotten I finished the book and couldn't wait a day to start it again.

I'm including a few lines from the book below so stop reading now if you don't want spoilers. These lines I just loved. It shows a few different aspects about the book and 2 parts that I just loved!
***. ***

• They should all get together for a photo shoot and do something that required them to be shirtless. A fireman calendar would be entertaining.
“You can’t read minds, right?” she asked, realizing that her thoughts were going south fast.

•"He's not a stranger." He brought over a frying pan. "He's an old friend who I occasionally want to punch in the face. Pancake?"

Now I'm a bit fussy when it comes to paranormal novels - I usually only read Ward (voraciously) or Lindsay J Pryor's Blackthorn series, mainly because they are different. I've found too many other paranormal novels a bit samey.

So it was with trepidation that I picked up Blood Laws by Lexi C Foss, and I only succumbed because a dear friend of mine assured me I'd enjoy it.

Now Blood Laws isn't your average paranormal. The background to the world is complex - this is an intellectual novel - and as such, you need to give yourself time to get your head around it. But once you do....WOW. It's FABULOUS. I mean, I totally surprised myself (although my friend is a little smug).

Stas, the main female lead, was fabulous. She's not your average human, and she's always felt a little different, but when Issac turns up, her world explodes.

The chemistry between Stas and Issac was 'wipe your brow and breathe deep' hot and as Stas is slowly drawn in to his world, both the tension and the heat start to rise.

I cannot wait for the next book, Forbidden Bonds, which is out on August 1st.

Holy sh*t! This book was so good! I was not expecting it to be that amazing!

First of, I loved Stas! I have read way too many romances with TSTL heroines lately who don't trust their man or are over dramatic, validation-seeking drama queens. Stas was NOT that. She was smart, confident and able to look at situations objectively without getting overly emotional about everything. She enjoyed her sexy man without being clingy or pushing him away.

I LOVED her.

Isaac... needs no words, but here are a few anyway. Just, yum. Vampire with bad-ass power, a little bit of a scoundrel, dominant in bed, and of course, hot as hell. What more do I need to say?

The plot/world building was just complex enough to keep me engaged without overshadowing the romance, and I'm so excited to start the next book and see where things lead!

I haven't read a book I enjoyed this much in a while and I'M SO HAPPY! Lexi C Foss, you got yourself a new fangirl 👍👍👍

I want to preface this by saying the cover is gorgeous. It really is but it has a young adult feel to it so I didn't really know what to expect diving into this book but listeeeeeeeen! The cover needs to be changed to something spicier, more adrenaline rushed and sexy because what I expected and what reality was was pretty glorious.

The story takes place in a supernatural world where the main character, Astasiya, "Stas" for short, goes to take coffee to he best friend Owen only to find out he's been murdered. Like, gruesomely murdered. This leads her to tumble into a world she essentially gets a crash course on because of her introduction/immunity to Isaac Wakefield.

Issac Wakefield. *Pauses to fan self* My goodness. Issac is an Ichorian which is sort of like being a vampire but not because like usual lore, they don't have silly weaknesses like the sun or aversion to garlic. They do however have a subset of powers. Isaac can manipulate people's vision, as in he can make them see what he wants them to see, or not see at any time. That's how his introduction to Astasiya occurred because she wasn't supposed to see him but she did.

There's also another group of supernatural immortals called the Hydrians. The Ichorian and the Hydrians have a Blood Law pact where if a fledgeling Hydraian is found in Ichorian territory the Ichorian can call him or her because Hydrian blood can kill an Ichorian. We find out that Astasiya has some powers of her own and Issac deems her the "perfect pawn" for his revenge plot.

This is where things begin to heat up because what's supposed to be a hot as fuck charade, turns into more but there is still one stipulation that WILL end things. I'll let you read to find out.

Anyway, I absolutely devoured this novel. The world building was fantastic and the tension whether it be for battle or sexual were on point. I mean I could perfectly visualize every detail and, well, I never wanted the book to end. Isaac was my absolute favorite and his character development was written superbly. One thing I didn't like was the nicknames (except Isaac's Nick name for Astasiya) but that didn't detract from the overall story for me.

The book sort of ends open ended. The next book is supposed to be about two different characters but the author made a note to say that we will see future books centered around Issac and Astaysia again. If you've been looking for that really good paranormal romance, this is it. This is it!!

"Astasiya Davenport's best friend is dead. No, not just dead--murdered. Burned alive. Decapitated."

This is the lead line.
Read it again.
Let me help you out.
Best friend is dead (that's sad..)
Murdered. oh no..
Burned alive (ouch)
ok those two go together if albeit a bit messy.
Now for item three. Decapitated.
STOP.

Let's recap...
You can be murdered by being burned alive.
You can be murdered by decapitation. (this is very final)
But you cannot murdered by decapitation and be burned alive (crispy results) or vice versa.
(to be fair you could be burned and then decapitated but that's not what they indicate)

Apologies to Astasiya* Davenport and her less than alive best friend but they need a better editor, or possibly a murderous advisor.

*how does one pronounce that?! /Ahs-taszh-sya/?

It's so hard to find a great paranormal series to get caught up in but when I picked up this book I couldn't stop reading! What a wonderful world Foss has created! Isaac and Stas has become one of my favorite characters. This series so far has satisfied my thirst for action, romance and a creative story line. I can't wait to read the next book in the series! I'm totally impressed with Foss. Look out Cole, Ward, and Feehan because Lexi C Foss is on her way up!

4.5 - How Could It End Like That - Stars!!!

Let me just begin by saying how much I loved this book with the humorous writing, the sexy writing, the absolutely swoon-worthy hero and the full cast of characters.

I honestly wasn't sure what to expect with this book. It was a new to me author and none of my friends here on Goodreads had read this book. I went in blind with only the Amazon reviews to guide me and sometimes, I don't always trust those. :)

This book consumed me. I found it hard to put down for a number of reasons. It was either wanting to know what happened in the coming pages or that Issac was just being too delightful so I didn't want to stop reading.

I will say that at first, I found the story very confusing. I was lost for about the first 50 or so pages but as I got more into the story I started to understand things better, plus well, Issac was just so scrumptious I didn't want to stop reading. If you read this one and feel the same, just hold tight because it will level out not too long into the story.

At the beginning Issac had plans to use Astasiya or Stas as she is called by her friends, for his own revenge but unexpectedly he started to feel things for her, eventually calling her Aya as his own nickname for this fascinating woman that showed up in his life.

💖 A foreign part of him longed to lie with her, to provide her with any semblance of comfort he could, if even for a moment. Odd considering he never wanted to hold anyone, not even sexual partners.

💖 “You need me alive,” she finally said, her voice careful.

“I do,” he agreed, his fingers sliding to the back of her neck, tightening. “But more importantly, I want you to live.” An admission that cost him more than she’d ever know. Because he’d just confessed something to her he’d not wanted to disclose to himself.

💖 I don’t want to lose her.

💖 His gut ached with the thought, his grip tightening as if to hold on to her for just another moment. He’d never felt this way about anyone, had never desired to be this close to another. But Astasiya had changed him on an irrevocable level.

My Random Enjoyment Moments of This Book:

❥ Seriously, Issac just made my heart melt with some of this actions and thoughts towards Aya. Totally swoon-worthy.
💖 Brushing his lips against her temple, he guided her closer to his chest, encouraging her to lay her head against his shoulder. She didn’t fight him, didn’t even flinch, her body melting into his as if it always belonged there.
💖 “But I don’t want to use you in that way, Aya. I don’t want to lose you.” Didn’t she understand? This was no longer a game of chess. Real emotions were on the board, with Aya front and center, and he couldn’t risk the pawn who had become his queen. “Astasiya, you’re worth more to me than vengeance.”

❥ I love all of Issac's little touchy feely moments with Aya. So sweet.

❥ He is just so charming and seductive. I can understand why Astasiya wanted him so quickly.

❥ There was a bit of purple prose but still swoon.

❥ These two are meant for each other and Foss does a great job of portraying their relationship.

❥ HE DOESN'T WANT TO LOSE HER! He went from wanting to use her for his revenge and then HE CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT HER!
💖“Come back to me, my Aya,” he breathed against her lips. “Promise me you’ll come back to me.”

....Just a few issues, though, hence the 4.5 stars...

✿ Basically, it's a "cliff-hanger" of sorts. I won't say that Issac and Aya's story was fully wrapped up at the end of this book but it is definitely a HEA but feels like more HFN because things happen at the end of the book that lead into the next book and so on. This book was like 5 hours to read and I was hoping for a bit more wrap up than what we got. This is an ongoing series and one you definitely shouldn't read out of order. Don't get me wrong, they are happy together but there is so much more to their story.

✿ As you read the book you'll find out that the relationship between Issac and Aya is basically forbidden and if certain things come to pass, they can't be together. It just adds a bit more to the story, I feel. I look forward to see what happens as these two are in all the other books and in fact will be the main characters in at least one book in the series that is already written and supposedly a book that will be written in the future.

I am so happy that I finally got around to finish my review copy of Blood Laws and I'm really excited to share my review with you guys! Blood Laws is the first book in a paranormal romance series you need to add to your wishlist ASAP!

World building
I love the concept of it all; The world-building is really interesting and can't wait to read more about it in next books. There was enough explanation present of how the world was build without it being overwhelming. The paranormal elements are interesting and fit perfectly within this story. I think the author did a great job on making this unique and original. The Ichorians, Hybraian, Seraphim and Fledglings are awesome to read about and their way of living in between the humans.

Characters
We get to read the story from two pov's; Stas and Issac. Stas is our female lead character. She always knew she had powers and that the paranormal world was a real thing, but she didn't know where her powers came from and what it all means so she tried to stat clear of it all after seeing her parents being brutally murdered when she was young. She's about to being thrown right into the middle of this paranormal world, that's balancing on the edge of an impending war. She starts out being used as a 'pawn' by Issac but soon she finds herself falling for this man whom she technically shouldn't be with. Stas is head strong, witty and I she's a character I could bond easily with.

And Issac is such an intruiging character and I loved reading from his POV a lot, since he's already familiar with the paranormal world and such, reading his view on things simultaniously provides you with more information on the workings of this world which was really well written I think. He's the perfect balance of alpha-male but not too dominant you know? He respects Stas and gives her the freedom to make her own decisions, so that made me love him even more.

I also loved meeting other characters aside from Stas and Issac. Quite some minor characters present got my attention and I always love it when an author not only focuses on the main characters but on the minor characters as well, especially if they'll be getting books of their own later on in the series. So overall, there's a really really great character set present in this book!!
This read was fast-paced, not with lots of action in it btw - if you count out the sex hahaa. HOT SEX at that though, DAMN ;) - but I think it was perfect the way it was; in balance with the rest of the elements like the romance and character development and such. It doesn't end on a cliffhanger persé, but it definitely left me aching to get the second book right away when I finished it. I'm so excited to see how everything is going to continue in the second book because it feels like book 1 is only the beginning of so many more awesome things to come our way. It's like we've only scratched the surface so far and I'm excited to see what's hidden underneath it as well.

Conclusion
It was exciting, it was sexy and it was definitely addictive. I loved the writing and I can't wait to continue with this series by reading Forbidden Bonds. There are already 9 books planned for this series so that's really awesome since there are a lot of minor characters present in this first book whom I like to read more of and preferably their own books so YAY! Back on track: A really interesting and awesome read that I'd definitely recommend to each and every one of you! The characters are interesting, loveable and exciting to read about. The romance is well developed and sexy AF. The story-line progresses in a nice pace and towards the end it has a great build-up that leaves you craving more. So I think it's a really great first book in a series. I think this series may already be on its way to make it to my favorite paranormal romance series list if the author continues by writing books this awesome. It's definitely one of my favorite first book in a paranormal romance series, that's for sure!!

Thank you so much Lexi for sending me an e-arc back in the day. This earc was received in exchange for me leaving an honest review.

August-2019 review update:
I have just listened to the audio of the updated, extended version of Blood Laws, 2 years after I read the original.
Oh wow, I thought it was brilliant the first time, but now with all the extra information and details that have been expanded upon, the new depth to the characters, especially Isaac is outstanding.  I also loved that we saw more from elders Aiden and Luc because of the extra scenes from Isaac's POV as well as the extra darkness from their enemies.  The two narrators were fantastic, even if Isaac's English accent took me my surprise as I'd forgotten his origins...d'oh!  I absolutely love this book, it is the beginning of an epic series and I highly recommend it to all pnr lovers.

Original review:
What a fantastic start to a pnr series.  Blood Laws grabbed me from the start, I loved it and I highly recommend it!!

Anastasiya (Stas) knows she's different but is trying to fit in whilst keeping her secrets following a traumatic childhood.
Isaac is an Ichorian - immortal, sexy, mysterious and dangerous, intent on revenge for the death of his sister. Stas is warned to stay away as all is not what it appears, but she wants answers and the more she gets sucked into his world the more she finds she has to learn to trust him. The lines between friends and enemies start to blur.

This is a gripping read, the type of story that sucks you in, then makes you beg for more at the end. Lexi C Foss is a talent to be sure, her world building, character development and story telling are addictive and oh the sexy scenes are hot hot hot! Although it ended in a satisfying way for one part, there is a cliffhanger that I'm sure will lead straight in to book two. I can't wait to get my hands on it. Five gripping, sexy stars!!

When I requested to review Blood laws, I wasn't aware that it's not a stand-alone book. The next book will be about a different couple, but we were promised that Isaac and Stas 's story will also continue, so I am guessing either multiple point of views in the upcoming books or time jumps between each book Stas and Isaac get. Btw the heroine's name is not Stas, that's her nickname, but it's easier for me to write. She is mostly called by her full name.

I have read Royally Bitten and I enjoyed it (excluding the threesome) and I wanted to see what else the author had to offer. Well, I had less trouble understanding the rules of that lore instead of the rules in this book. And Blod laws is longer and even has a glossary. Still, if you ask me what is going on, I don't know what to tell you. Many things are happening at the same time and I was a little lost. I found myself enjoyed Blood laws mostly, but something was holding me back from loving it and I was able to put it down and go read something else. When I turned the last page of the book, the first thought I got was "Wait, that's it? We still have so much to find out!". I had the feeling that the story was incomplete and emptiness inside my reader's heart. I don't usually have that problem even with non-stand-alone books, but in this case, even the romance wasn't enough and I found myself thinking that Stas and Isaac have a long road ahead of them. There wasn't a single part of the plotline that had some sort of closure and I have to read book 2 now!

This is a different cover from the one I see on my Kindle. These models don't match the images in my head, but then this entire novel was a mixed-up mess for me. There was no feeling of satisfaction when I finished it.

I have such mixed feelings about this book. I think I'm leaning towards not liking it. It was frustrating. I admire the author's ability to create a unique and diverse world of non-human beings. However, I was often confused as the hero is an Ichorian who is half-brother to a different race of beings, the Hydraians. I believe one can create the other but not the other way around, but it's confusing. The Ichorians seem to be similar to vampires. I'm not sure at all what a Hydraian is other than immortal. I frequently had trouble telling who was who, and at times it all jumbled up in my mind.

I got annoyed with the idea that we STILL don't know exactly what the heroine is. Everyone kept saying she wasn't ready to hear certain things about herself. Then when she has a key piece of information about her mother that might be crucial to understanding her heritage and who or what she is, she withholds the information and never did tell anyone. I wanted to scream.

There are a lot of bad guys in this book, and it's not always clear who could be trusted. At book's end, the heroine volunteers for and puts herself in an extremely stupid situation. Apparently all for nothing. The person she was trying to save (the MC in book 2) is being moved out of her reach.

I hate that this novel is not a standalone. It ends on a cliffhanger with no resolution of 95% of the issues. I have book 2, but I'm not even certain I want to read it just now. I'm not sure I care enough to continue muddling my way through another frustrating read. I don't mind series; in fact, I love them. I just need more of a happy ending when I turn the last page.
