UnSHACKled: Facing Suffering with the REAL Jesus

Rate this book
The Shack is one of the most popular 'Christian' books ever written, seemingly helping and comforting millions...BUT - is it good medicine? Do books like The Shack (and other offerings of pop-culture Christianity) actually give real, biblical and genuinely comforting answers to us when we walk through painful tragedies? THERE IS A BETTER ANSWER.

This book will help you evaluate The Shack and other popular works of Christian culture in light of the always-true, always relevant Word of God. In UnSHACKled, you will find incredible hope and comfort. If you have suffered the death of a loved one, or sickness, depression, anxiety, fear, or addiction, you will be astonished by how God's son Jesus is PRACTICALLY the answer that you need to endure and overcome.

Do we need a new answer for suffering, or are the answers and hope found in The Bible far better than we could have ever dreamed? Read UnSHACKled and be comforted by what Jesus has done for you, what Jesus is doing for you, and what He will do for you when He returns.

I'm pastor, college professor, and writer Chase A. Thompson. I read The Shack in just three days, and was moved to tears more than a dozen times while reading. It was an easy to connect with book, and I enjoyed it. However, when The Shack is held up to the light of truth from the Bible, God's Word, it becomes clear that the book contains many troubling errors and false depictions of God. If you loved The Shack - I get it! I was moved and entertained by the book too...BUT - the truth of God's answer for suffering, found in the Bible, is far more comforting and compelling than anything in The Shack. Don't take my word for it, however - read UnSHACKled and compare what The Shack says to what the Bible says. You will discover the truth for yourself, and in the process learn how to evaluate other Christian movies, books, preachers and teachings in light of the solid bedrock truth of God's Word.

This is a book about suffering, and how two different books deal with it: The Bible deals with suffering by pointing people to Jesus, and how He suffered greatly for humanity on the cross, and will ultimately (at His Second Coming) defeat grief, death and suffering forever. The Shack deals with suffering by proposing a strange 'trinity' of Gods who meet a man who has suffered a terrible loss at a fictional shack in the wilderness. Which answer is the best and most comforting? Please read the book and find out - I'd love to hear your feedback.

In Unshackled, Chase Thompson seeks to unpack the deceptions, scriptural untruths and many theological issues found in The Shack.
Using a methodical approach, he clearly and sensitively approaches each issue presenting a clear cut case as to the severe errors of the Shack. This approach means this is a book that is scholarly, yet easy to read at the same time.
Chase is uncompromising in his aim to shed light on the issues that arise from the book whilst not being afraid to highlight parts of the book he agrees with, or enjoyed.
It is his deeper study of the theological background of The Shack's author that exposes the deep issues that led to such a deceptive ear tickling book as the Shack.
This book is a must read for anyone who has read the shack, or who hasn't read it and simply wants to understand the issues surrounding it.

Chase does an excellent job at unfolding some of the theological dangers and problems in The Shack, while recognizing the entertainment value entrusted by so many who have found some solace in what they've read.

In addition, I must admit, what Chase labeled appendices carried perhaps a greater impact than the primary chapters themselves as he walks through a biblical approach and view to suffering.

This is a terrific read! Well worth your time.

This book points out the fact that some find the Shack a comfort regarding suffering in the world. While the Shack is entertaining. UnSHACKled gives a better Biblical look at suffering pointing us to Jesus who suffered for us all. He is there for us in times of suffering.
