What you will learn About the Author Tim Woodruff has spent his entire adult life working in IT systems and development, with over a decade of experience in both. He's worked for a wide variety of companies in many industries, each with their own unique processes, systems, and needs. Tim now runs a start-up ServiceNow development and architecture consulting company, and writes custom ServiceNow apps which he licenses or gives away for free through his ServiceNow development blog and website, SN Pro snprotips.com/. When he's not working, Tim can be found exploring abandoned ghost towns and other forgotten landscapes, researching obscure and arcane programming trivia, studying physics, and flying his drone with his Beagle (Seven of Nine). Table of Contents
Tim is a Sr. Director of Cloud Engineering, a technical architect, developer, and trainer with a focus on the ServiceNow ITSM+ platform. He's also an author, but I feel like you've probably figured that out.
Tim has been working in IT, software development, and information security for two decades, and writes a popular ServiceNow development blog, SN Pro Tips, where a myriad of articles and free tools can be found. Tim is also the founder of The Precipice Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity dedicated to preventing homelessness before it happens.
When not keeping busy with ServiceNow, writing books and articles, publishing free tools, and working to prevent homelessness, Tim enjoys studying physics, exploring ghost towns, and going on road trips with his three-legged doggo, Ezri (@threelegger on Instagram).
Occasionally, Tim writes author biographies for himself in third-person because that seems to be what everyone else is doing.
This is a good overview of ServiceNow, from a developer's point of view. I read this book with zero previous knowledge of ServiceNow, and found it easy enough to follow. It'll introduce you to all the stuff in ServiceNow that's scriptable via JavaScript, both client-side and server-side. If you need to do any customization of ServiceNow, this book would be a good place to start.
This book doesn't teach you much about ServiceNow from a user's point of view; It's really a developer's book. I'd also mention that it doesn't cover interoperability between ServiceNow and other systems, which is something I need to learn.
The first half is really helpful with a number of exercises and examples. Once it gets into scripting, it becomes more of a dictionary. Not very many examples of scripts or their uses.
The first half makes it worthwhile if you need a little more in-depth knowledge beyond what's available on the ServiceNow developer site.
The book has a good informations and tips for every servicenow Admin, but in the sripting chapters I felt lost a little bit, I think this part need reorganisation.
I recomand it to any one who is starting with servicenow.
