I really liked this last one - definitely the best of the series. It was action packed from beginning to end. Really good. Overall, I enjoyed getting to see these characters’ pasts and find out everything leading up to the end of the world. In the mood to reread the manga now.

Much of what was revealed in the manga happened in this volume, much as I expected it to, not that any of that was a disappointment. On the contrary, it made me grin with delight when I wasn’t letting out a sad sigh of admiration. Ah, Shinya. You and Shinoa are so very alike. You had to go and poke the bear, err, taunt the vampire, mock with that fact that you had one thing she always wanted, didn’t you? If anything, the tragedy happened so fast, it left me blinking, yet that was a very realisitic touch. Ferid Bathory’s entrance at the end was marvelous, heightening my interest in the vampire lord’s connection with Guren Ichinose. I’m now wondering if Ferid didn’t get the inspiration to do certain things in the very beginning of the manga from the example set by a certain complex character here. Just how much of the bond between Guren and Yu was Ferid’s contrivance, the result of his active efforts? It’s the sort of thing I could see a mercurial, manipulative, and many-layered character like Ferid Bathory meddling with, trying to make the little seraph the perfect ‘gift’ for Guren, someone the tormented anti-hero couldn’t help but love, creating something with Saito’s pawns that isn’t of Saito’s design. Neither Saito nor Ferid could ever love Yu themselves, but they could anticipate the effect he’d have on others. A little of the latter was exposed in the complex and beautiful scene where Saito takes Yuichirou to the Hyakuya orphange, giving us a little insight into the thoughts of Saito himself. Vampires are showed to have both profound insight and detatched blindness when it comes to human hearts, something which is brought to light in this volume. The way Saito notes Mikaela’s interest in Yuichirou’s arrival is another example of this, even as it hints as Saito’s schemes without exposing too much of them. How much of those schemes are in conflict with Shikama Doji’s? We got a closer look at his as well, his plans for the Hiragi in the demon’s first encounter with a child Shinoa as well as Mahiru’s desperate final encounter with Kureto, where both siblings confess how trapped they were by their heritage and how much they lusted for power to achieve their goals. Shinoa may prove to be strongest and wisest of the Hiragi in that she’ll listen to her demon without giving into its promises. All of these aspects of the overall series blossomed into a non-stop intense race to the end where Guren and his team are at their most heroic, bantering in heart-rendering fashion, trying to save the world and each other. They reminded me of CLAMP characters with their emotional intensity, accompanied by the tragic twists in the epic, only they go beyond the painful conclusion into the forbidden where lies even more tragic and painful conclusions. For doing all of this in a dramatic style which leaves me hungry for more, I give this four stars.

I enjoyed this book.
There was some good action, even though it was mostly about getting to the end of the world, but the fact that the reader has been with these characters for a while, makes the climax of the story that much impactful.
The pacing is good and at least for myself I wish the story went on for a little bit longer in this volume – as it didn’t, I’ll have to wait for the next to know what happens next.
I haven’t started the SotE manga, but I believe these light novels provide a welcomed background to some of its characters.

A great conclusion to the series!! I hope it gets an anime adaption it's so so great. Like it's a prequel so we already know what it's building to but it still was so exciting and leaves you in suspense, questioning characters motives. Guren and Shinya tho 😭💔 Guren an amazing character, so flawed and that makes him perfect. Also mahiru is awful I don't like her at all and I diddnt feel empathetic for her at all. 4 stars cause of her and cause the novel was so short lol

"Nothing is everlasting, and people die, eventually"
"And at that moment, all at once, the world began to end"
Damn it if I knew how this book would hurt me, but I still needed to read it so badly. I'm glad I've finally had the chance to know more about Guren's story. He's a good guy after all(well, it depends lmao)

The ending was probably the best part on this one... the rest of the book moved pretty slow. Poor Guren... life was never easy for him. Tough choices for the guy...
