It's sad to me that we even need to have a book like this. How to empower your people, how to enable them to make as many decisions as possible at their level, how to push decisions down, how to remove yourself from the approval process. All of this and more, with why the Navy implemented this new process and how it has worked out. This is the 21st Century management theory - reward others for thinking for themselves, get out of their way, support them.
Spectacular. I read this book because I find subs interesting, and not because I wanted a leadership book per se. And while this book didn't disappoint on fascinating insight into life on submarines, I was enthralled at the leadership lessons. I am literally going to send it to colleagues. It's applicable in any business, or even home life. This is not a stereotypical leadership book, but much better insights into doing things effectively.
