LIMITED SHORT STORY PUBLICATION NO LONGER AVAILABLE
"Sometimes love drives a man a little crazy."
Burning Confession is a haunting tale that plays out like a classic country song. Cody was a simple guy. Loyal. Hardworking. He just wanted to have a nice dinner with his girlfriend Becca. But one confession turned into another. Instead of roses and sexy lingerie, Cody found himself at Dusty's Saloon, tangled up in a twisted night of smoke and whiskey.
Author Note: Burning Confession is a Standalone Short Story and a prequel to My Lucky Days, involving a different character. Reading Lucky is not required to enjoy this story.
When I wrote the songs for My Lucky Days, I included the lyrics for a much darker song compared to the others in the book. In my mind, I had this entire backstory to why Lucky Evans wrote the words. But it wasn't something that fit into the actual story of Lucky and Katie in My Lucky Days. So he simply performed it one night on stage without any other explanation.
Burning Confession is about the night that inspired the lyrics. Love. Betrayal. Whiskey. Lucky might have made the tale famous, but it was always Cody's story. He lived every painful moment.

I’m not sure if this novella was necessary, but I liked it. I would have liked it more if it was longer. It was very, very short. This novella was about the night Cody and Lucky (from My Lucky Days) met. Cody is heartbroken and Lucky is there to listen. It’s a night that inspired Lucky to write a song that will make him famous.
Sometimes things just aren't what they seem -- and "Burning Confession" is a classic example.
Hendrickson writes with intensity that grabs hold and pulls you in from start to finish. Yes, even in a short "Prologue" type delivery. She packs a big wallop in Cody's really terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.
Even if you haven't read "My Lucky Days" where readers originally meet Cody, you can still find meaning and a major lesson to be learned in this short standalone.
REALLY short read! Maybe 20 minutes tops. While I enjoyed the back story to Lucky and Cody's original meeting, I sort of forgot the point of it all. I read a lot so my foggy memory is to blame. I think this novella would be best served in a re-release of My Lucky Days. Still a great lesson in couples communication tho!
Never have I read such a short story and been so drawn in before. (Really quick read) We only got a small glimpse of these two characters but by the time I finished this, I was sad there's wasn't more. That no more pages turned when I read the last sentence. Lol!
This is the first I've read this author so I wanted a taster of her writing, and I can say that I'm going to be reading My Lucky Days, which is the book this short 'prequel' is based off of (you get the prologue and ch 1 in the back of this and I'm already sucked in!)
I like the writing, it seems to flow really well. 4 stars because it left me wanting more at the end! Lol!
I have been a huge fan of S.D. Hendrickson’s writing for years. She not only has depth to her novels, but she has a way of making you feel like you’re actually inside the pages of the book feeling every emotion right alongside the characters. With a hint of darkness and a whole lot of sexiness, Burning Confession is the first short story by Hendrickson and the writing will suck you right into the pages.
The mind can always play tricks on you and make you consider thoughts that are not necessarily the truth. Burning Confession is the story of a very jealous man, Cody and his girlfriend, Becca. One night that should have been amazing, spirals out of control giving a whole new meaning to the phrase, “having a bad day.”
“I wanted this terrible and twisted night to end.”
Intense, gripping, sexy, and highly emotional, S.D. Hendrickson will have you getting lost in her powerful words and thinking about Cody long after you finish the last page. You’ll want to hug Cody, buy him a drink at the bar, and knock some sense into him all at the same time.
How will Cody’s night end?
Although, this is a short story prequel to My Lucky Days, you do not have to have read My Lucky Days in order to read this. It can be read as a standalone.
