Girls Can Vlog #1

Tüdrukud vlogivad : Lucy Locketi veebikatastroof

Rate this book
Lucy sõbrad ärgitavad teda vlogima, kuid Lucy arvates on see mõte kohutav.

I don't know how I heard about the Girl Can Vlog series, but I'm glad I did, because Lucy Locket's Online Disaster is one of the cutest, sweetest books I've ever read. It's a very young series, aimed at 10-14 year-olds I'd reckon, but can easily be read by anyone older than that; I'm 26 and I read it and enjoyed it. With the rise of the YouTuber (they're everywhere, literally) it was only a matter of time before that became a thing in books, and I'm only slightly surprised that this is the first one I've read - surely there must be more out there?!

What I liked most about Lucy Locket Online Disaster is that Lucy is just a regular girl, in fact, she's even got a stammer, and that isn't glossed over, it doesn't magically disappear, it's there, present, for the entire book, in the writing of scenes, in the vlogs, and I think that's so important for young kids to see that having a stutter isn't the end of the world. And, sure, there will always be the Dakota's of this world, who try and shame you for your impediment, but they're the awful ones really.

I absolutely loved getting to know Lucy, Abby, Jessie and Hermione (in fact, I am most excited about Hermione's book because HELLO! Book worm) but all four girls are amazing, and I love that they go through little hiccups and bumps in their friendship, but it's also the kind of friendship that can sustain bumps in the road, and all friendships have their fair share of bickering and fighting, that's growing up. I loved everything about this book - the story, the way the vlogs were laid out, the little images scattered on all the pages, it was such a fun, quirky, sweet read. Perfect for any youngster (or oldster).

Author: Emma Moss
Age Recommendation: Tween
Topic/ Theme: Self-Confidence, Vlogging
Setting: Springdale Cty (fictional town in country England)
Series: Girls Can Vlog

The plot of Lucy Locket: Online Disaster is simple enough it's a young woman using vlogging to overcome her stammer alongside saving a local business and finding new friendships in a new place. Lucy is a good protagonist she feels realistic and has natural progressions in a soft peer pressure situation. There is the usual bullying and some cyber-bullying dealt with as I would expect, ie Lucy ignores it, expected it almost. While not the ideal, or necessarily a good message to send, it feels very much the world we live in.

It is really well-formatted. Each Vlog marks the end of a chapter. You are given the thumbnail (including run time), a basic play style script, some of the comments with an indication of how many more there are, a view count and a subscriber count. The last two are particularly useful for seeing how Lucy's blog glows and what works and what doesn't for her base.

Of the pot luck books the library sent me this is probably the one I've enjoyed the most so far. To the point where I would think about reading wore in the series as light reads (you know when you get in that mood when you want to read but not anything that makes you think, yeah that is me). It stays in its lane, doesn't challenge the demographic too much and encourages Internet safety. Do I recommend it to everyone? No. But I would recommend it to 15/16 yo.

No dobra ... Kolejny reread ! I do tego udany. Wzięłam tą książkę do wieczornego czytania i pochłonęłam jej połowę.

In the first book of the series we focus on Lucy who's new to the UK and her school. As she tried to fit in with the girls at her new school, she meets Hermione, Jessie and Abby whom all help her as she sets up her YouTube channel to help document her life and share with her best friend back home, Morgan.

Lucy also helps out at the farm where her mum works as a vet and as a fundraiser comes up the girls hope to raise awareness and get people to attend and donate to save the farm. She also has to deal with her growing crush on farm worker Sam and evil school enemy Dakota whom wants to make Lucy feel bad for her stammer she suffers with.

The girls all set up a collaborative channel too which they call Girl's Can Vlog where they can all upload video's together to share the fun and joy of vlogging.

Overall it was a great start to the series and I loved Lucy and the girls working together and bonding over a now common hobby and interest of vlogging online. It had fun, laughs and love for friends and coping with change as well as health troubles. It was a typical teen read and will satisfy your quick YA read desires!

The book girls can vlog is a book around blogging. The genre is for teen girls and can be slightly counted as romance. It is good for girls aged between 12 and 15. It talks about a girl who moved over from America and she had to leave her best friend. On the first day of the new school all the girls where bullying her and she hated. After a few weeks of making a group of friends, her friend from America said she should try vloging for the first time. She did it and she earns hundreds of followers. The ending of the story ends on a bit of a cliffhanger as she goes to a farms fun raiser and a boy asks her to go for hot chocolates the next weekend. However you never find out what happened. I really enjoyed the book I thought it was fun and really grabbing to the reader.

Lucy's moved back to the UK from the USA but is finding it hard to make friends at her new school, especially as she has a stammer and the "Queen Bee" Dakota and her minions think it's fun to tease her about this. Things come to a head when she slips, lands in a pool of water and Dakota films the whole thing to put online. Morgan, Lucy's friend back in the US, suggests she starts a vlog, especially as she knows Lucy's stammer disappears when she's relaxed … and it's surprisingly successful, much to Dakota's disgust.

A story about friendship and bullying with a bit of romance thrown in. And a threatened Pet Rescue Centre! The format - text messages, emails, scripts of the vlogs - all interspersed with b&w photos make it an easy book to read.

This book, I think, is underrated, as is the entire series. It boosted my confidence in myself so much and my confidence in the fact that I could set up a YouTube channel, which I really want to do. The tips in the back for vlogging are so useful as well. Not only that, it shines a light on how difficult it can be starting in a new school in a new continent or just country. It also emphasized that a stammer has no real impact on your daily life. Lucy is just an ordinary girl, leave her voice alone! Overall a great book for teens and tweens with great morals about confidence and always loving yourself!

I thought that the book was sooo fun to read, and I could relate to how getting into a new school and moving a country can be hard for Lucy. The worst part is when you go in on your first day of school thinking that everything will be fine and no one will even notice her, and then you make a FOOL OF YOURSELF! I think that Lucy and her friends are very relatable to me, and I think that many people can also relate to this story very much.

Light hearted and a really easy read. I was a little confused at times by the narrative tense of the writing but I don't think this author set out to write a book of classic literature content. This is a great read for low level readers and kids who just don't like to read, it's current topic and teenage angst was both informative and funny. I will recommend it in my school library.

My daughter borrowed this from the local library as part of the school summer holiday reading challenge. She loved it and read the whole lot in one go. For me it was an eye opener into the areas she is interested in. We've talked about vlogging and utube lots since.

Lucy doesn’t treat her friends nicely and she assumed that he asked her on a date. And she accused sam of having a girlfriend and got jealous even though they were just friends and hardly knew each other.

I fear this was meant for someone ypunger than me but its okay! Still kinda fun but the characters were a bit annoying and childish. I think they didn’t have much depth to them either. The plot was clear but also boring.

My friend told me to read this and *dramatic sigh* she has the worst taste in books. It wasn't too bad but it could be very cringy at parts. I like how it was sectioned into different vlogs.

Vloggen is helemaal in.
