Phather and Son: Growing Up With the Phillies

Rate this book
Relive the exploits of memorable, if not exemplary Phillies teams and players through the eyes of a young fan and his father. The journey for Dad and I begins with our first Phillies game together at Veterans Stadium in 1990 when I was just seven years old. Through the coming years and decades, my dad got me to fall in love with this team while also appreciating an American League team just an hour to the south. Our family and father-son relationship experienced their fair share of ups and downs, but when all was said and done, the Phillies and baseball in general, always brought us back together.

Great afternoon read!

Adrian Martin has written an exceptional biographical work on his love of baseball and the man who, introduced him to the sport; his father! Martin who was raised in the same area as I was (albeit a generation behind me), grew up following the Phillies and the Orioles like myself. The journal entries he uses in this book highlight not only the successes and failures of the teams, but also the personal trials and triumphs of his family.

This was a great afternoon read that I downloaded on to my Kindle. I recommend it for a nice insight into how a fans life and the fortunes of ball clubs intertwine with each other.
