If you're in the mood for a slightly unconventional thriller where rugged individuals with exceptional outdoor skills struggle against the odds to outwit the bad guys, some of whom may be working for government agencies, then 'Pursuit'may be just what you're looking for.
'Pursuit' is Indy Quillen's second thriller about Fox Walker, a Native American with extraordinary tracking skills. It happens six months after the end of the first novel, 'Tracker'.

'Pursuit' gave me not one but three rugged individuals who are good in the outdoors: an ex-Navy SEAL on the run, Fox who is called in by the FBI to pursue the SEAL but who begins to feel that he's hunting a man who doesn't deserve to be hunted, and Nataya, Fox's partner, who also knows how to live off the land and who, at the start of the novel is supposed to stay home out of harm's way but clearly isn't going to.

I settled down with it, expecting to spend a few hours reading and ended up finishing the whole thing in a day so that I could see how everything worked out.

Although most of this story is a detailed and very credible description of Fox's pursuit of the ex-Navy SEAL through the mountains, a lot of the tension comes from cross-cutting this with events elsewhere focused on figuring out what the FBI's agenda is and who really killed the woman the ex-Navy SEAL was convicted of killing. Both paths through the story have lots of threats and periods of intense, violent action and the overall resolution is quite satisfying.

This is an engaging thriller that gets its edge from the easy-to-believe-in descriptions of the tracking and survival skills that Fox and Nataya and the ex-Navy SEAL all have and by the way in which Indy Quillen highlights the different world views that drive how these skills are used.

Trailing and survival expert Fox Walker returns, now with Nataya from ‘Tracker’ as his partner. Soon, a straightforward manhunt in a national forest turns into an intriguing murder mystery for all involved.

This nicely evolving series introduces well-developed additional characters, with Matt Logan as an evading Navy veteran aided by his brother Sean and associated compatriots. Carryovers include FBI profiler Dean McClure, again uncovering the connections weaving Quillen’s complex storyline through to equally tense double finales.

The writing here is excellent, where returning fans garnered by her initial installment will find a satisfying story, high stakes and enough excitement to make the last pages of ‘Pursuit’ only wet the appetite for Fox Walker’s next appearance. As the man is comfortable and effective in his natural environment, so Ms. Quillen apparently is in her writing. ‘Pursuit’ is the prime evidence of such. Five deserved stars

Pursuit by Indy Quillen is the second novel in her Fox Walker series, preceded by her award-winning debut, Tracker. While Pursuit picks up where Tracker leaves off, it reads perfectly well as a stand-alone (although you'd be missing out in going that route). Fox Walker is a an expert tracker, called upon to assist in finding Matt Logan, a survivalist, sleuth, and former Navy SEAL who's escaped and is evading recapture following a murder conviction. As Walker, along with his new partner Nataya, search for Logan at the behest of the FBI, Walker begins to suspect there is more to Logan's precipitous demise than what's been portrayed...but in order to find the truth, Walker must first outplay Logan in a wilderness that both cat and mouse are equally skilled at navigating.

I set this book down two days ago and am still on a bit of a high from this read. Indy Quillen has taken several unique themes and, somehow, has created a fully engrossing tale of (and in) Pursuit. Walker is a fantastically well developed main character who is instantly likeable. Humility, expertise, patience, and a broad skill set encapsulate this Native American protagonist. Logan too, is so well depicted that I spent many chapters with my heart strung out in the hope of a mutually beneficial resolution for both men. The plot is thick and Quillen's portrayal of living completely off the grid offers an authentic glimpse into survivalism in a way that elevates an already great story. I would enthusiastically recommend this book to readers who are on the hunt for an exceptional thriller.

This is the first book I've read in Indy Quillen’s Fox Walker series. Though the second in the series, Pursuit is a stand-alone novel. However, I now plan to read Tracker. Pursuit was a well written story which skillfully intertwined likeable and unlikeable characters and moved smoothly between them. The main characters (Fox Walker, Nataya, and Matt Logan) leap of the pages and into your hearts and minds. Quillen’s eye for detail kept the story authentic and kept me intrigued. The pace quickened in the last quarter of the book and kept me turning pages into the wee hours. Enjoy. Highly Recommended.

This second Fox Walker novel was as much a page-turner as the first. I love the characters in this book and how Indy Quillen makes use of every person's skills in the story. It is not only a novel using many twists to keep you guessing, it has many wonderful tips on wilderness survival and being one in nature. Walker is a rare, quiet non-hero type that lives in a way that is a mystery to most 'civilized' folks - and his methods end up winning out and being appreciated and admired by both characters and readers alike. I look forward to more adventures with Walker and his equally amazing companion, Nataya.

Never a dull moment!

With each new book I read by this author, I not only am entertained , I learn something new. I am going to start taking notes! A great pair, Walker and Nataya, working on finding the truth under subterfuge. Indy Quillen has a wonderful grasp of First Nations and their history and is able to weave a complex story of intrigue, honor and redemption in the rich tapestry of the mountains of Colorado. Matt Logan- will we see a series of his own?

In pursuit of a good book? This is it!

The premise of Pursuit is an interesting one. Two men, both topnotch in their careers, pit themselves against each other as they try to outsmart one another. One is in flight and the other in pursuit. The action and conflict mount with each page and you will feel as if you are with them in the wilderness on a wild, and rocky ride--always the case in a Fox Walker novel. I recommend reading Pursuit!

This is story-telling at its finest. Indy leaves book one of her Fox Walker "Tracker" series and transitions seamlessly into book two. This time, Walker is tasked to track an ex Navy SEAL who has escaped on his way to prison. I love the way Indy pits The SEAL's wilderness survival training against Walker's traditional woodcraft. I won't tell you where it leads - you have to read the book yourself to find out. Once again, Indy's characterizations (including an interesting twist with Nataya), plot and structure are all sound and make book two a page turner. Kudos to Indy for a job well done.

This is the second book in the "Fox Walker" series. I enjoyed this book. I probably would have enjoyed it a little more if I had waited a few days to start this book after I finished the first in the series. I read both within a week and there is some overlap in the type of story presented. I like books where one can learn something while enjoying a good mystery. The protagonist, Fox Walker has been taught how to survive in the wilderness by his Native American grandfather. One does learn quite a bit about survival skills and Ute culture during the course of the stories. But, there is a lot of tromping through the wilderness trying to evade pursuers in both books and this got a little repetitive for me.

The story in "Pursuit" is interesting and somewhat captivating. An escaped convict who is a Navy SEAL is attempting to avenge a previous murder. Fox and his partner, Nataya, become involved in tracking down the SEAL. There is a lot of action mixed with survival skills and Native American culture. Some new, interesting characters are also introduced and developed. The relationship between Walker and Nataya continues to develop well. However, the ending was somewhat predictable and disappointing. That being said, I thought this book was way above average in the "adventure-mystery" category and I will likely read the next book in the series.

I enjoyed this book, the second in the series, even more than the first. In this book, Walker is hired to track an escaped convict for the FBI. Sounds simple right? But, of course, it's not as simple as it seems.

I am so happy Nataya is still in Fox Walker's life. She is a strong woman and I like that the book is about her life as much as it is about Fox Walker's life. The two make a dynamic couple and I am looking forward to the next book.

Not bad!

The outdoor plot was better than the other sub plots. Still plenty of action for readers. Will try other books in the series.

This is my first Quillen read. Since I live in Colorado I particularly enjoyed the geography. Good characters and the story moved along nicely. Good book.

In the first chapter we learn that Matthew Logan is guilty of murder in the first degree. Chapter two picks up Fox Walker and his partner Nataya, as they face the news spotlights after tracking and recovering a lost boy. In the first book of this series, Fox Walker saved Nataya's life, and now they are partners in a tracking and survival training operation. Fast forward a bit and Matthew Logan escapes custody, and Fox Walker is called upon to track the escaped future convict, so the FBI can move in and return him to custody. What makes this task more challenging is the fact that Logan is a former Navy SEAL and survival expert. The adventure that unfolds pits two survivalists against each other in the San Juan National Forest, and of course Nataya has a critical role in the hunt. The author rolls out every tracking technique, as the two men match wits on their trek deep into the forest of Colorado. I liked this aspect of the novel, although it was quite detailed. Pursuit was a second absorbing novel by Indy Quillen, and I plan to read number three at a future date.
