I'm starting to wonder what the deus ex machina is going to be because Sato is just too smart and seemingly unstoppable.

Sakurai had always surprised me so far but this time I outguessed him (and Sato’s plan). Not that it was that difficult, mind, but still. Which means a slight disappointment with this volume but the party’s just begun and I reckon the next one should bring more action and surprises. Ogura’s warning sounds like a mean Checkhov’s gun for instance.

Tosaki, cold-blooded and hardcore, that’s what surprised me.

description

I don't know. It feels like that the story isn't moving forward beyond fight scenes and very short other things (like the set up for the meeting).

The way Sato managed to infiltrate the basis? Genius.

So, does that mean, that Kei didn't die with the lorry but actually at birth and is an Ajin since then?!?!

We'll see how it goes on.

The strategy which marauds on the military facilities Sato calls the last wave was carried out by this volume.
I think Sato is sooooooo crazy person. The fearful means are coming out one after another one after another... so it’s mede a feeling playing a game.

Ajin is one of the best manga series currently in production. It combines science fiction, horror, 80's action movies and thoughtful moral dilemmas all in one very entertaining package. This volume is a bit of a place setter. There is a lull in Sato's activities and our characters are not sure what he will do next.

True to form, Sato is a master chess player and has everyone, including some of his own men, uncertain of where he will be and what he will do. The ending has set the reader up for a stunning confrontation in the next volume. As a place setter volume it serves its purpose, but it is not one of the best volumes in the series. The art maintains its high standards and is always a treat to take in.

I am looking forward to reading volume 12 because the confrontation between Sato and the authorities should be staggering.

Sato prepares to break into a Japanese military base.

This story has very large pendulum swings. This volume is a lull: preparation, talking about what the characters are going to do, everyone getting into place. It's an excellent set up for the next book but not much by itself.

Chronique complète :

Extrait :

File 49: Tosaki pleads with Colonel Kouma to deploy the anti-Demi human forces but he replies that this unit is not as it seems (no actual powers). Separately, Matanabe returns to the hide out to help (after he was previously close to death from fighting Sato’s ghost at the Forge tower and thrown into a swimming pool). Tosaki, Izumi, Nakano and Kei leave the hide out to the place where Sato will be meeting the ministry negotiate. Sokabi and the minister are also planning to go to the meeting place.

File 50: Tanaka drives to the meeting place but decides to drive separately from Sato, Gen and Takahashi (Okuyama). Separately, those from the hide out arrive (Tosaki, Kei etc) arrive early. Ogura explains that a flood occurs when there is heightened emotion at the time of death and will take on the form of that emotion (i.e. violent if there is animosity). Everyone is confused when Tanaka arrives by himself and no Sato.

File 51: There is a military parade elsewhere where the PM is about to speak. ‘Someone’ is arrested on entry that looks like Sato and incarcerated. But when the PM is on his podium speaking, Sato is seen walking behind him. This makes Tanaka mad who is with the minister for the discussions waiting on Sato.

File 52: Sato shoots at the crowd and the PM and enters a gunfight. Army manage to get the PM in the back of a jeep but Sato is able to keep pace with it and jumps in the back. It turns out that Sato who is attacking the PM is actually his IBM with a head he cut off previously stuck on top. In parallel the real Sato is being released and put in a safe room as they think that it can’t be the real Sato given the PM was attacked by him.

File 52: Tanaka is taken by the minister after being shot by a tranquilliser. Separately, Tosaki is confronted by Sokabi, threatening to out him regarding Izumi and her past. Tosaki stabs him to death. Elsewhere, Izumi sets out to get Tanaka and put him on their side given he is now disillusioned by Sato.

You get a double-cross! And you get a double-cross! Betrayals for everyone!

I don't want to go into much more detail than that, because this really deserves to play out at its own pace. Some of the twists had been building up for awhile, while others were more shocking--or even surprisingly cathartic. Things have spiraled so far out of control by this point that Sato seems to be the only player left with a cohesive plan. And the fact that everyone else is scrambling to play catch-up is keeping the tension pretty damn high. Another excellent volume in an excellent series, and I can't wait to see how the final stage of Sato's scheme continues to play out.

Bello, bello, bello.

Hopefully, there is some kind of resolution with Tanaka. I think he was with Sato out of desperation for demi-human rights. He knew that Sato wasn't going to do the right thing, but he had deluded himself into believing he would.
Tosaki's wound from his fight with Sokabe better not be too serious. I've really come to like his character.

Kei is born dead, but his demi human qualities brought him to life. Wow!

As usual, Sato's plan to infiltrate military was awesome. He put a fake (an IBM with Sato's head) as a threat for Prime Minister while he let military to capture him.

How did Mr. Tosaki kill his partner Mr. Sokabe that fast? Is he a demi-human too?!

You can overextend the tension. At least that is what happened to me here. The plan, the ideas, once again really cool, but the talk at the end kind of brought the whole thing to a stand. Nevertheless, I want to read the next issue!

Things are finally heating up again. This series has not only established Sato as a ruthless villain, but also a brilliant strategist.
Also, the little backstory of Kei at the beginning? It was really good.
